Vanille de Cèdre

Vanille de Cedre is a 2018 release from the California-based Kyse Perfumes, well-established in my mind as a go-to house for gourmands, in particular, both high-performing and modestly-priced, a gem of independent perfumery. Vanille de Cedre follows suit with some of my favorites (like J and Oui Plus) in providing a nice, sweet woody balance of its eponymous notes, paired with the synthetic oakmoss that fosters a bit of an incense/myrrh vibe, reminiscent of Imaginary Authors Memoirs of a Trespasser, which I intend to be a high compliment, as I love MOAT. Still, it retains its own identity, not being quite as dark or smoky as the IA offering. Overall, it feels balanced and complete, a reasonable weight assigned to both the vanilla and other elements. It’s rich, sweet, woody, and a nice option for cooler weather situations in particular, I’d say. Performance seems great and the pricing, as with all Kyse offerings, is outstanding, with not only 60ml for $54 but also a larger 100ml option at $80. I might very well have to nab a bottle of this after sampling her latest nine or so fragrances. Bravo to Terri Bozzo for another great creation. 8 out of 10

SO excited to get my Kyse order yesterday! Today I put on Vanille de Cedre and have been basking in it all day. Immediately it is strong vanilla (very much like Bonbons a la Vanille), but then that blast of cedar that follows soon after is pure heaven. All day long I've been able to smell this beautiful juxtaposition of sweet and "not quite spice" that read as super creamy. And then it hit me that it really was turning into a white chocolate smell...!!! Oh. My. God. I freaking love this. Then, I went into Walgreens and saw some Fantasy gift sets and I thought, okay I'm going to layer this on top. Holy white chocolate frosting and cupcakes goodness! I'd say that if you loved the original Fantasy (with the strength that it supposedly used to have, although I personally never got to witness), then you absolutely MUST layer Fantasy (current) with Vanille de Cedre. You will NOT be disappointed.

Absolutely beautiful and unique fragrance! Perfect balance of vanilla and cedar and the scents compliment each other so well. Not too strong, not too light. This easily lasts 5-8 hours; excellent performance and silage. I get so many compliments every time I wear this, which is basically every day as it's become my new favorite fragrance.

Omg, this is GOOD!! This smells like a stronger version of one of my favorites, Sorcellerie Don't Whistle In The Woods. I'll be needing a larger size of this one!!

This is a very pleasant vanilla and cedar fragrance. The cedar is strong and spicy in the opening and for at least the first hour (might seem obvious, but you really have to like cedar to enjoy this). There is a realistic, slightly bitter dryness to the wood that keeps this fragrance from becoming too sweet, although it does sweeten up significantly as the vanilla takes center stage. Sillage isn’t impressive but the longevity is. I don’t personally see myself wearing this as there are vanillas I prefer, but I’d love it in a candle!

Cedar is dominant in the opening, then the perfumer’s trademark vanilla takes over. Easy to wear and natural to my nose, these two attributes also seem to be a thread in the Kyse line of fragrances. Performance is good though this scent does not project on me. The only negative, and I’ve pointed this out before, is the packaging. It feels cheap in comparison to the scent. I still have a few more Kyse perfumes to sample, and I may return to this for another trial.

It opens with cedar, very natural, smells just like the essential oil. But then the vanilla kicks in and quickly takes over. When both actors are similarly strong, or when the cedar is just a hint stronger, the scent is incredible but this window only lasts for about 10 minutes. I love the combination with the cedar, yet the vanilla is so overpowering that all other notes get lost. I find the scent very sweet, very one-note. Not bad, but also not quite good.

Received a sample of Vanille de Cèdre with a recent purchase from Kyse. Soft, smooth vanilla is the star of this show while cedar plays a supporting role helping to keep the sweetness in check. Oakmoss and musk apparently play bit parts but I must have dozed off during the 5hr premiere in-home event because I missed them entirely. Will definitely try this pleasant and demure beauty again in other venues during warmer weather ...

This scent is confusing to me. I wish there were more cedar and less vanilla -- the vanilla is sweet but not overly so. Despite my lukewarm reaction I can't stop smelling my arm. I get a little sharpness, a little bit of a synthetic undertone. But the drydown is where this perfume blooms into something extremely warn and inviting.

a super interesting twist on vanilla! at first i was hesitant of the piney/woodsy combo of a sweet & creamy vanilla with fresh cedar, but it’s super comforting and gets even better/loses some of that metallic bite as it dries down. unique and would be nice for fall/winter.

This is quite potent scent. I think that this is one of stronger scent from Kyse collection. as most of people say, its heavy on wood but its not so spicy, more of vanilla a little bit but really just a bit of sweet wood. I think this can smell very nicely on men but not on me. its quite strong for my taste.

This is a vanilla dominant (60/40) fragrance IMO. As a man, I've smelled a lot of dominating cedars with Joseph Abboud being the best dominant cedar of all time, and it isn't even close. I'm not sure how prevalent cedar is in a woman's fragrance, so I'm a little ignorant on that specific. Back to the perfume, I love it, and it's truly unisex. I've been going a little crazy ordering samples with this house. I used to be intimidated by this house for some reason by seeing IMO the feminine leaning website (maybe it's the pictures). After hearing Kyse made a better Choco Musk I was in disbelief, but it's true. I want to sample all of their fragrances regardless of note breakdowns. I'm not so into vanilla fragrances as a man, but I do enjoy this one a lot. It's no Peche au Yuzu, but I'm a yuzu freak so take that into consideration.

I have been sampling the Kyse line over the past few days and this is another well done offering. The cedar is nicely done and not overpowering...never veers into hamster cage territory. I find this one particularly comforting/calming and in general most of all the Kyse line to be comforting...generally vanilla is considered comforting by many I know but this line in particular is quite soothing to me...maybe the particular type/quality of vanilla being used? Not sure but it's heaven for sampling for the vanilla-obsessed who walk among us.

A delicious but faceted vanilla! a review below mentioned “white chocolate” being the general impression of the scent and I so agree. I have THE hardest time with making cedar notes work with my skin chemistry, this blend is heavenly and never veers towards ~wood shavings~. Natural, and non-cakey: creamy unisex scent with manageable cozy sweetness!

I was hoping for a Celine black tie dupe based off the note breakdown. The vanilla in this is more sugared than black tie and there's no iris obviously. The oak moss in this is quite prominent on my skin. I also get a smidge of smokiness somewhere, perhaps from the oak moss. A bit masculine leaning, clean ish, everyday office scent.

Starts off with a stronger cedar than vanilla note but blends nicely. The cedar soon fades a bit, leaving vanilla more dominant. I love the aroma of this fragrance, but I wish it was stronger. It is definitely a safe scent to wear. People will need to be in your personal bubble to catch a whiff. 6/10

The vanilla is the star of the show. The cedar gives it a woody edge and grounds it. I'd say its closer to weathered lumber than fresh cut wood, cedar chest, or pencil shaving. Occasionally it leans a little incense-like and I wouldn't ve surprised to see sandalwood or amber listed with these notes

This is the most beautiful unique scent, the vanilla is beautiful and quite sweet. The cedar note is such a true cedar and the two combined smell amazing and different. This is my new favourite scent

Very, very delicious vanilla and realistic cedar. I'm a vanilla lover and this house is taking over all my previous loves.
