Incendo

This is a wonderful smoky incense scent. I like A City On Fire, and while this reminds me of it, Incendo is a much more natural, chill take. A City On Fire has a very sharp, sulfuric smoke. Incendo is smoke from burning logs, herbs, and incense. They both do have a common thread somewhere, but I can't quite put my finger on what unites them, besides a vague smokiness. A City On Fire is a blustery night on the town full of excitement and maybe a little unplanned danger. Incendo is coming home from a forest camping trip, smelling your clothing, and being filled with the calm serenity of knowing yourself, your travel partners, and the earth a bit deeper than before. You also have the sneaking suspicion that the owls are not what they seem. It's a bit more mysterious and meditative like that. It's great to put on after dinner, to facilitate diving into the world a new book affords the imagination. I also found that before bed it was a great muse for helping me drift into a dream state. I am not sure how I will feel about it in the heavy summer heat, but having only received the sample a week ago, it has already brought me a lot of pleasure and comfort in this cold midwestern pandemic winter. It is hard to put a price on a fragrance that helps you mentally travel, while physical travel is off the table. I'll almost certainly be buying a full bottle when I am done with my sample. I would recommend this wholeheartedly to anyone who loves campfires, forests, and the natural smells that come with it. This is a unique fragrance that doesn't scream for attention or pressure you from a perfume counter. With that in mind, it also probably isn't for everyone, so definitely sample before buying.

My first try from La Curie seems to be the house's most celebrated, and winner of 2016 Art and Olfaction Award, likely it's most awarded. Incendo puts forth the "burnt pine tree" vibe excellently, a blend of pine, fir needles, embers, incense, and sage yielding a robust blend that rivals some of the better examples of this concept that I've smelled. It has some bite but not a ton, not as much as, say, Timothy Han On the Road. It partly embodies Imaginary Authors A City of Fire but perhaps with a little less spicy smoke, and partly embodies Profumum Arso but with a little less woods overall. To me, Incendo sits somewhere between these two. Certainly it inherently is geared toward cold weather wearing, so I'd be reluctant to don this in the summer. Also, it's slightly more masculine than unisex but certainly it's unisex enough that many women will gravitate toward it. These are just stereotypes, anyway, and anyone can wear whatever they want. At $95 for 50ml, this is wholly worthwhile, especially given that it performs robustly, very strong on projection and slow to diminish while also lasting a while. An instant love, a bottle I now want, Incendo ranks among the best of I've tried in this burnt pine realm. Superb stuff! 8 out of 10

I love La Curie's perfumes because of the slightly ozonic quality present in them in combination with dry, arid woods, leather, and herbs. They seem very indicative of the southwest and the place in which they're made, and for that reason I think they're quite special, even if I don't find tremendous diversity throughout the line. Incendo does well with their signature big sky image. It's the smell of a campfire at a distance, diluted through the cold night air—smoked sage and fir, not sweet and sticky and green but rather smoldering, dry, and crackling. It's a bit simple in the end without many material nuances, but it still plays with quite beautiful complexities of tone—light and dark, smoky and airy, warm and cold. It's streamlined, in a way, and though I may find some similarities with other fragrances in this same category (Slumberhouse's Norne, Profumum's Arso, or Hendley's Fume—all of which I love), it's the differences in Incendo that really sets it apart. It's a joy to wear, as I've been doing frequently through the fall and into the winter. It's also a joy that La Curie's prices aren't sky-high, and that there are travel-size bottles to buy with abandon and not feel as if you've made a gigantic investment. (8.5/10)

Fragrances with a lot of smoke are tricky. They can be ashy, acrid and rubbery or spoiled by weird herbal or musk inclusions. I've tried several, including orientals, and I tend to be partial to those amber, spice and incense combos. I first purchased a 15ml bottle of Incendo and then quickly followed up with a full bottle. Even though it did not fall into my comfort zone, not did it come across as incense smoke. To my nose, this is an accurate intrepretation of a forest wood fire with hastily gathered branches and twigs, some with a little clinging moss, wet leaves and maybe a small dead animal that was picked up in the mix. It begins with the clean smoke from the twigs and then later you pick up some of the wet leaves, green and animal, just a hint. As it dries, you do get a faint dose of sweet sap burning, but this is definitely not a Holiday, nutmeg and cocoa kind of fragrance. I think it is terrific. And I will wear it solo from time to time this winter, but i will most often layer it with some of my other winter frags that could use the bump of smoke and fire.

I've owned La Curie Incendo since late-Summer 2016 and I cannot believe that I have neglected to post of review of this award winning fragrance. In a nutshell, I find Incendo to be a stunner and worth of it's award winning status. It is simply the best real campfire scent I have ever put my nose on---and I have tried quite a few---and it's quality through and through. How does it smells? Like a campfire complete with burning embers and smokey ash - period! Performance is excellent in that it lasts a solid 10+ hours on my skin, and project a heavy campfire scent trail (but not beastly) for the first 2-3 hours before becoming more subtle. Incendo is a perfect Fall/Early Winter scent. On the negative side, it is not very versatile and if you're into smokey campfire scents, then there's a good change you won't like this offering. I like this campfire fragrance better than Rouge Bunny Rouge Embers and Perris Monte Carlo Oud Imperial when it comes to capturing that smokey campfire essence.

This is the second La Curie and I can honesty say that this line is so creative and different. I love this one. It smells like the campfires we had when camping in the Mohave Desert as kids. Very smoky a bit oily, with spicy pine and incense in the mix. Frys down to a soft floral melange on me. Wonderful and very wearable for me. Brings back great memories and at least I won't smell like everyone else with the overly sweet, fruity gourmands that are so popular right now. No wonder it was the winner of the 2016 Art & Olfaction Artisan Award 2016!

This smoky creation is a symbol of the revitalizing effects of fire. It's meditative, strong and quite unique. Go hiking in a recently burned forest in the PNW and this is what you get. Charred wood, sweetly melted sap, hints of the unburned forest beyond, sun and the glory of the woods that were there before the fire. This is not a date night fragrance unless your date happens to be a budding pyromaniac. Heavenly, difficult and highly recommended. Good longevity and moderate sillage.

The opening is a fairly loud campfire smell, but the dry down is wonderful. It reminds me of a fresh cup of lapsang souchong tea, one of my favorites. I’ve always described lapsang souchong to my non-tea drinking friends as a smoky, herbal, earthy, cedar mulch flavor. This perfume fits that description to a T. For me it’s a beautiful perfume, but for those not as keen to gardening and tea it may be a bit challenging.

The most photorealistic bonfire smell there could ever be, omg. Literally smells like you set up camp in the middle of the forest, and you're sharing stories around a huge fire. It's pine-y, it’s smokey, it’s woody, ugh i looove it. Unfortunately it can be pretty abrasive smelling like burning wood, so i cant justify buying a bottle but if i ever have the itch i know where to find it.

Smoke, cedar wood, sage, leather. Reminds me of sitting by a campfire in Joshua tree. Has that sort of earthy resinous appeal. If you're into smoky cedar wood, copal incense and the smell of creosote then this might be attractive to you.

This smells like whatever incense and resins are burnt in Mexico during the day of the dead celebrations. I remember when I was 4 or 5 this smoke filling parks and this exact scent permeating the air. Beautiful

Charred pine and sage that sinks into skin like a memory. A night camping out west that stuck to your hair. Adore it.

Smokiness isn’t quite the scent here- it isn’t like campfire smoke wafting into your face- it is more the ambient burning warmth of glowing embers, incinerating the sap of fir and pine. Wood on the verge of ash, retaining a hint of greenness. The incense and sage elevates the campfire to a ritualistic cleansing.

every pine-scented christmas candle in the holiday aisle is burning and subsequently snuffed all at once. smoky conifers with only the tiniest touch of sweetness for balance excellent!

While the forest burned, you raised your pitch-coated sword in defiance. The battle was almost won and you were ready to claim your prize. You wiped a mixture of sweat and soot from your face as you strode toward the enemy, and two crows circled before landing on your bone armoured shoulders. In your time, you have been called a god, a goddess, a hero or a devil, but what you really were was a warrior with an indomitable soul.

Incendo is particularly smokey for the first couple hours...smoke like the burning of wet logs...very slightly piney...all was well as far as my expectations...unfortunately, after 2 hours or so, a very dominant sage note comes in and steers this in a totally different direction...not the direction I was looking to go

I was really hoping for a more smoky fragrance. Incendo smells like a big pine forest, with lots of resin, woods and incense, but at least to my nose, no smoke. Since I didn’t bargain for an incense fragrance and really wanted something with a strong smoky note, I tossed it.

I like how realistic this smells as far as incense goes. However I would like a little sweetness or something along with the incense For what it is and what it was trying to accomplish which is being eaten since fragrance it is great I would probably use it for layering

Starts out very liquid smoke-y, like a barbecue. Dries down more atmospheric, like a sweater the day after you wore it at a campfire. Lasts about 3 hours on skin. Longer on clothes, but on clothes that meaty quality in the opening lingers significantly longer.

On my skin, it opens with a strong smoky churchy incense. Shortly after, it morphs into a chocolate-y patchouli-like note. The drydown is all about a smoky fir with an amber-like note that unfortunately as a noticeable fruity-sweet facet that kills for me. Performance is above average. Still a like (I can see this beautifully worn by a woman), but a pass for me. Women, 25+, Fall days.

If you've ever smelled the clothes you brought back from a camping trip where campfires were featured, you know approximately what this smells like. It's a lovely, simple, yet beautifully judged fragrance that seems quite natural and has good sillage and longevity. I haven't tried Lonestar Memories in four years so my memory may be unreliable but I would say this has more of an incense vibe whereas in Lonestar I get more leather. They are quite similar though. There's a part of me that feels a bit sad that campfires are such a novelty that anyone would want to recreate the smell in a fragrance and it's a bit weird for me to think of someone paying to smell like something I'm used to encountering on my way to the laundry room while unpacking from a camping trip but I can see how if you lack these associations, this would be simply beautiful. Bonus: the fragrancephobes I'm surrounded by won't identify this as fragrance.

This isn't a particularly unique incense fragrance, but it's admirably committed to the concept without adulteration. It's thick, fragrant smoke, smoke, and more smoke. There's a fair amount of green and herb here - the sage and coniferous trees, I assume - and the overall effect is one of a bonfire in the woods with a ritualistic twist. I appreciate La Curie's execution of a concept here. This degree of dense smokiness won't be for everyone, but I imagine that it will appeal to those who like their fragrances charred.

Smoke is about the only note I can pick up. Opening? Smoke. Drydown? Smoke. It's a very nice smoke note mind you, but I was interested in Incendo primarily for the fir and pine notes which are not major players here. There is a certain rubbery latex smell present in the drydown that is also in some other La Curie scents that doesn't quite agree with me as well.

A very dry burning incense on a bed of pine. The opening is very smokey, as if the fire was just lit and the smoke is burning off. It even has a bit of a charred smell like a bonfire in the cold. Then as it dries down, the most beautiful sweet-ish incense trails up with a touch of glowing pine embers. It smolders for hours. Moderate sillage, longevity good.

I just ordered a bottle of this, blindly! I think IA'S CITY ON FIRE is too spicy smokey, and Arso is too cedar woody... soooo.. according to Landsharks review, and i do trust his reviews, i feel like this is just what the Fragrance Doctor ordered! Hurry up mailman!
