Odyssey

I'm smelling sweetness and spice. No clue what they think "vinyl" is but they aren't using actual vinyl. I worked for a record company and I was at the factory many times during production and it did not smell like this. I think what they meant was shellac, which is what the old 78 rpms were made of and that WAS a sweet smell. I remember taking my grandmothers old albums out and smelling that sweetness. I'm positive that's what they meant. Anyway, I really like it, a lot. It has a nice woodworking aura to it, I think shellac is a resin found on trees. It smells like old wood walls in a library filled with wonderful smelling books.

I am utterly obsessed with this one! I have been collecting perfume for over 25 years, and after I applied the sample, I've never ordered anything so fast. It just so happens that Amber and Liquidambar (styrax) are two of my favorite notes. On my skin, this turns into the most beautiful sueded Amber ever. It is beautifully blended, with no sharp edges on me. If you like Rook's Amber, but wanted the Diesel-leather-saffron turned down a notch, this is for you.

The past’s version of the future. I find this super unique and I love it

Initial application made me out loud say “whoa”. The word “futuristic” came to mind trying to describe this smell. Cold, synthetic skin, like one that would cover an android. Artificial mimicking the natural, akin to an A.I. generated image of a human. Something is off, you /know/ something is off. I’m wearing a silicon skin, a beautiful flawless smooth skin, but it’s not right. A mannequin would wear this. Ex Machina. Could possibly layer this with rose or pink scents, I’ll experiment. Sometimes blind buying works out; I heard weird, I wanted weird, I got weird. EDIT: 45 minutes later after application. I feel like I’m going crazy. Am I real? Am I a human? Am I alive? Two full sprays to my collar bones, it’s constantly up in my senses. It is quite strong, and it feels like I’m trapped in an organic starship heading towards the great void. I think a blade runner is after me. Spray with caution.

This is an unusual and alien scent, but I'm not getting much of the futuristic qualities other reviewers cite. I don't get spaceships or record vinyl, but I do get the nostalgic smell of vinyl dolls, mixed with spice. The scent is almost cute with its plasticky cinnamon-spice qualities, but also objectively odd and almost disturbing, with whiffs of warm breath, stale air, and the heat from an old radiator. This probably sounds like an ambivalent review, but I like that it's pleasing upon first sniff but weirder the more I think about it. Projection is modest, but it clings tenaciously to the skin. La Curie has become one of my favorite indie houses, and Odyssey continues their winning streak for me, not because I love it - I don't think I do - but because it's another one of their fragrances with a definitive point of view, existing within a specific time and (outer) space.

An almost liminal scent to me. A cinnamon, amber, plastic combination that seems cool and warm at the same time. (if that makes sense.) Unique, and somewhat "industrial/electronics room" to my nose. Great longevity - about 8-9 hours on my skin. Pretty linear throughout the lifetime of the wear. You can wear this anywhere, and 2-3 sprays is my max. (Anymore than that and the plastic/vinyl becomes a bit strong for me.) I've never had anyone compliment or comment on it when I've worn it. But, I am curious what it must smell like to others. Sample first as this is an acquired taste.

Rained on concrete warring with mildly melted plastic. Either the amber or my skin chemistry tempers the intense vinyl note into something more atmospheric and almost aldehydic. Only one light spray to the inside of my wrist but like with most aldehydes in fragrances on me, it TAKES OVER. All caps very intentional. p.s. I'm also wear-testing Faunus on the other wrist, and Odyssey fully overwhelms it.

This smells like an AI cyborg that you fall in love with. Futuristic, almost human but just falling into the uncanny valley, like it was engineered and optimized to have the best humanoid scent. Not so insane that it's unwearable but one of those that really makes ya think! Where to wear: Ex Machina Nordic dream home, the Among Us space station, the mars bound cryogenic spaceship sleep pods.

Do you want to go to FunkyTown? I know you want to. This fragrance will take you there. It reminds me of disco skating among the lights in a darkened roller rink. Not the smell of sweat and people, but the music and the lights. If Xanadu has a smell, this is it.

The vinyl renders this completely alien and plastic. The overall projection is much stronger than other La Curie perfumes. When I stuck my nose to my wrist, my lips started to go numb(?) The amber and styrax are intensely warm and resinous-very spicy on my skin- but accented strange and cold by the vinyl base. It’s like an amber-scented plug-in perfuming a pleather-seated new car. It’s like the trance of a childhood spent in a climate-controlled atmosphere, with a cinnamon broom for the autumn season. It is nostalgic but not comforting... The painful nostalgia remembering what you hoped the future would be.

Bubblegum is 100% accurate—the kind in a rope with that chalky dust on it. Uncanny.

Wow, alright. Having learned my lesson from another sample from American Perfumer, I put only one small spray on my wrist. It projects to an absurd degree, and, interestingly enough, it smells drastically different in the air versus on my skin. In the air I mostly get vinyl, not quite the smell of cheap rubber, but in that vein. As you get closer, you can pick up on a slightly spiced amber, cinnamon with a hint of resinous sweetness. It does manage to succeed in its goal of evoking nostalgia. When I sprayed it, I was hit by the memory of the space exhibit at my local nature and science museum. I can't tell you what about it, maybe the cheap plastic of the fake space suits? I could just be falling victim to marketing, but I swear it smells like that room. It's a nice smell to have, specially considering the exhibit was remodeled a few years ago. We'll see how I feel about it in a few hours, if what others claim about the longevity is true. Would be perfect for a Darth Vader cosplay, or if you really want to to evoke a "what the hell is that smell?" reaction.

This smells much like L’Artisan Amour Nocturne to me which is funny because when that one came out and was described as a caramel apple and gunpowder accord, there was such a wide range of reactions from “dill pickles to salted caramel to novelty plastic vomit”. The same or similar aroma chemicals were possibly employed here in the center with additions in the top and base and people seem to have similar divergent opinions of what it really smells like. I enjoy it and find it charming and unusual although I have to admit that without descriptors leading my brain to caramel like AN, I really didn’t understand what I was smelling at first. Blueberry and rocket exhaust? The one descriptive note that I wholly agree with is “space dust”. I totally get that when I pull my wrist straight to my nose. A sort of dry sandy texture with metallic flakes in it. Whatever you find in these oddball synthetics, hope it’s as fun as it was for me. 3 out of 5.

Ok I like this but super light almost not there. Reminds me of Wrigley's Chewing gum wrapper once you take the chewing gum out and the "dust" is left. Something almost but not quite floral about it. The biggest note I get is the Vinyl. I like it. I don't know if I would buy a FB depends on price but super futuristic and cool just wish it had a little more punch. an update: when I wrote the above I used a dabber sample. I have since sprayed and it has more "umph or punch" when sprayed. There is still that chewing gum "dust" thing but the vinyl is bigger and the amber is a little oily in a good way.

La Curie Odyssey might as well be called "oddity" because it's a highly unusual experience, a sweet woody spiky blend with elements of synthetics, like vinyl or plastic. The funny thing is that it's not bad, really, still a welcome cold-weathearish entry that works as a unisex random option on an odd day. It just feels unreliably all over the place in terms of scent profile. I'm more confused by it than perturbed or enthralled. Performance is okay but doesn't touch Incendo's, certainly. It's more in line with that of Faunus. 6 out of 10

The fourth scent I've smelled in this line of wonderfully unique and creative perfumes and I was amazed but this one, too. I don't know what "vinyl" smells like, but this smells a little bit sweet and spicy with an odd smell that I guess is the vinyl, a tad plasticky in a good way. I was really delighted when I put this one on and I am still sniffing myself with a smile on my face. Everyone should check out Ms. Peterson's sample pack on Etsy, just for the experience of these unusual scents.

Futuristic recycled air in a spaceship hallway. You can smell the plastic and metallic bones of the ship. Joined by a hint of air freshener from the recycler, a micro hint of food spice from someone's meal packet, and other mylar wrapped smells that combine to create an interesting ambiance. Cleaner and newer than the Millenium Falcon, more Promethius, or maybe Hal's ride from 2001 Space Odyssey! Soft sillage and longevity.

This starts with a big burst of freshly opened packaging smell. Then comes a bit of pine tar and then a wonderful cinnamon stick note an a dash of anise. Some leathery notes followed. The cinnamon reminded me of Organza Indecence, but where Organza is a comfy sweater, this is a space blanket. It seems strange but suddenly you realize bit is warm and comfortable, If the longevity were better I'd be exploring it more.

Cosmic strangeness. A strong plastic/vinyl scent with a stick of cinnamon. Last ages, and eventually fades to an amber undertone. I feel as though the other La Curie scents are very “of this world” - they are earthy, witchy, magical, whimsical. This is a departure from that, feeling much more synthetic and strange. Not a safe blind buy, but it’s quite interesting if nothing else.
