Puck's Potion

Puck's Potion is absolutely stunning. It is an expertly blended combo of white lily with creamy notes. Don't be afraid of the pine note, as this does not wear as an evergreen, woody fragrance, it is definitely a floral. Also, I don't notice any cassis, which is fine with me as it has become one of the notes I avoid most, so kind of a miracle that I don't smell it. The perfume has an underlying powderiness about it that makes it feel cozy, similar to white musk. There is a purity and innocence about it, and this might sound odd, but I picture Sleeping Beauty when I smell it. Not when she is sleeping, but maybe at her wedding! :) I would love this perfume in cooler months, under a soft sweater. At the same time, I could see myself wearing it at a formal event, like a gala, with a floor-length black gown and lots of sparkling diamonds. It has a restrained, conservative elegance about it. If forced to compare to another perfume, it has the same feel as Cartier's Baiser Vole, another elegant, conservative, soft, musky and powdery perfume. But they are by no means the same. Sillage is soft-to-moderate, and it lasted 12+ hours on me without any touching up! A beautiful, high-quality, natural perfume! Disclosure: I wrote this perfume some time ago. Puck's Potion is one of my favorite scents from La Fleur by Livvy's Travel Collection. It's a warm, inviting chypre with a strong oakmoss opening - the real deal, with nuances of leather, sweet hay, and earthen forest floor. For me, it smells like a deep, hazy shade of olive green, blurred further by the backdrop of an enveloping, clove-like lily. I would even characterize the floral as mentholic in addition to softly spicy. The top notes are supported by a rich dose of velvety, vanillic tonka that echoes the sensation of a balsamic amber when combined with the other notes. As the scent wears, I get whiffs of violet leaf - it balances the density of the sweeter elements with a greenness that is even a bit ozonic in presentation. The base that holds on far into the drydown, however, is that luxurious, powdery tonka. Bottom Line: On my skin this scent is mainly a pas de deux between the earthy oakmoss and chewy tonka - the latter rounds out the edges of the former, and they seem to bring out the best in one another. I find the scent worthy of its name, and it easily cast its spell on me. Not only does it balance being sexy and cozy at the same time, but it's also a sophisticated chypre. I really love that sort of versatility!

What a beauty! I've been working through some samples of Livvy fragrances and they are all gorgeous. Frequent users of modern department-store type fragrances might need to acclimate to the performance of these natural fragrances. First, there is no harsh, chemical-forward, alcohol-y top note... these go on softly and remain relatively soft. But they're so photorealistic and well blended and gorgeous. They sit close to the skin. The best word I can think of to describe them is "alluring." This is a creamy, slightly powdery lily that smells like it was warmed in the sun. I can smell the tonka, it's like a blanket underneath. I don't detect much of the cassis. Lovers of natural perfumes really should check this line out, there's a lot to love!

A Midsummer Night's Dream, (written in the late 1500's) is a comedy that portrays sorted events surrounding the marriage of Theseus, the Duke of Athens, to Hippolyta ( former queen of the Amazons). These include the adventures of four Athenian lovers and a group of six amateur actors (the mechanicals) who are controlled and manipulated by the fairies who inhabit the forest where most of the play is set. I was hesitant on doing this review and must have written it over and over ten times, I mean how can anyone do Shakespeare justice? after all he is a literary genius, on top of that the fragrance itself is a gorgeous ethereal white floral fragrance Puck in the play, Also known as Robin Goodfellow, is Oberon's jester, (Oberon King of the fairies) a mischievous fairy who relishes in playing pranks on mortals, through the play singles out its action between several groups of characters. I get the Oakmoss, Cassis, Lily and Tonka Bean, it opens up with a spicy, creamy lily, and a dried, bitter oakmoss, the lily is strong, the oakmoss is mild. After forty five minutes the oakmoss dissipates, the lily softens, in comes a woody, slightly green cassis, and a nutty, vanilla nuanced Tonka bean, the cassis is mild, the Tonka bean is soft. Puck's Potion is a soft, billowy, graceful, with a touch of sweetness, white florals, powdery and woody nuances, unisex, it leans more feminine Chypre Floral fragrance This would be gorgeous in the Spring and Summer, I get average projection and average longevity, this is a stunning fragrance from La Fleur by Livvy 5/5 Stars .
