Find Me

The only thing making this California heat wave tolerable. My automatic reach when the temp hits 90° to rinse out the tedium of waking up to scorcher after scorcher with no relief in sight. Find Me is reminiscent of something left out in the sun, paradoxically as fresh-citrusy as it is warm-musky, turning any hot day into the memory of a hot day: lazy, romantic, indulgent. A cold drink, linens hung to dry, a shower, the heat of someone else's sunburn.

Like waking up in a Sicilian citrus grove. This isn't Buxton in his industrial/experimental wheelhouse. It's a beaut: huge presence of neroli / orange blossom up front, with the zest and oils of the fruit following not far behind. At first it appears a little single-note, but as it dries down some of the green notes lurk in the background, then the tart juicy fruit itself, and finally just a wee hint of musk/leather (and I guess whatever "skin accord" is) give it some corporeality. An ever-so-slight powderiness, but I find it quite wearable even though I usually hate powdery scents. Sometimes in the right setting, a usually disliked ingredient can work. I don't really get the spices (ginger, cardamom, pepper) which are such a signature of his, or the pine, but perhaps they're adding complexity in an undetectable way. Very nice. Very spring/summery. May not be a new avant-garde Buxton masterpiece but it's effortlessly pleasant to wear.
