Années Folles

This is like Obsession for Men Essence de Lavande, if such a thing existed! A stripped down, re-orchestrated and lavender centered, niche-quality version of the classic men's fragrance by Calvin Klein. It took me a few wearings until the similarities hit me.

Has something of caramelized lavender. In the background beautiful floral-green freshness, in the base long-lasting tonka lushness. Actually conveys cheerful exuberance. Great!

Along the lines of Chanel Pour Monsieur Concentree, PdN's New York, and Bois du Portugal but warmer and friendlier than the latter two, Annees Folles opens with noticeable doses of nutmeg and lavender, creating that particular kind of spicy fougere that is aromatic and fuzzy-prickly, a sort of sweet masculine barbershop. Here it's supported by tonka which adds a soft sweet quality but without overdoing it. Annees Folles never becomes a tonka dominant fragrance and maintains its general fougere nature throughout its duration. It's altogether a pleasant scent, even with warm muskiness and is driven by nice, smooth, high quality ingredients completely lacking in any kind of harsh or chemically abrasive nature. I own Chanel Pour Monsieur Concentree so I'll probably hold back from buying this, but I certainly would not mind owning a bottle (it may be even better than CPMC). Substantial, though nothing that shouts or even raises its voice, Annees has moderate projection and good longevity. Thumbs up for this very nice composition from La Parfumerie Moderne.

This is the one that garners most compliments if that means anything. I think its more challenging to create non-challenging fragrances, and this one rises to that occasion very well, though it's one that grew on my more over time and didn't quite fit my initial idea of what perfumes match me. For this one, I had to learn to get beyond my expectations of novelty and return to ideas of what just smells good and has positive effect on others, and now I get that reward of good familiarity ever time I wear it. It's a soft cloud of lavender and herbs; the talc is there but some ancillary notes provide a warm bite, incl. nutmeg and thyme, with a light musk in the back, but nothing too challenging, only pleasant to those around me, all rounded off with sweetening tonka and benzoin. The ingredients are very plush and high quality, and the overall effect is genteel and urbane (as is true for the entire line). I should add that I find this very strong insofar as I'm sensitive to tonka, i.e. it excels with discretion.

This is quite a curious fragrance. There is something about it that reminds me of Amouage Interlude woman. It is clearly a fougere with a strong, woody, sweetish spicy twist. You do get the lavender on the opening but it slips back a bit quite quickly and then it's more about nutmeg, patch, geranium and sweet warm tonka bean. Gradually the patch and geranium ease off a bit and then I can detect the thyme. This is my favourite phase. I better state that my chemistry does amp up the geranium note so bear that in mind. I guess some ladies might like this. For me it leans a touch to the masculine. It's too strong for warm weather. I would say it's a casual wear scent. It's not formal enough for the office. This one will attract attention. Not sure if positive or negative 🤣 If you like a bit of the avant garde and relish your individuality then do try this. I get moderate longevity and sillage in this 12 degree room.

A Mild spicy fragrance that has thyme, tonka beans, and nutmeg, then patchouli comes up a bit. kind of sophisticated and well blended. Nothing that huge special about it rather than mixed quite careful not to bend on the risky side, i guess it's quite the safe side fragrance.

My nose picks up primarily a well mixed concoction of lavender, nutmeg, benzoin, and patchouli. Quite pleasant for sure. However, my favorite from the house has been No Sport which I also find to be fairly safe.

A plus de 180 € le flacon, on pourrait s'attendre à avoir de beaux flacons justement !! Mais non ! Ce sont des flacons basiques ! Le jus a intérêt à être exceptionnel alors !!
