Cuir X

This fragrance smells like a powdered soft suede jacket I mistakenly left in the bed of a mossy tree. Start with a fresh citrus twist that evolves into a floral amber suede with patent touch and background of oak moss. Corticchiato makes a clean, simple but well made and very nice job that lacks a little more sillaje. It is halfway between Cuir Eau de Gloire and Ottoman. Rating: 7.5

A very pleasant tender leather. And it becomes more velvety over time as floral part develops more. This “leathery comfort” suits for men and women. Simple and great!

A quite obvious sibling of Cuir Ottoman with different proportions of almost identical notes - I'd say a bit more on the masculine side, especially on opening where thick iris note is not yet discerned (or better say, exploding right away) like in CO, instead saffron/labdanum notes make the whole begininng more cool and collected. After that, it's all about leather - smooth and very sophisticated. I admit, I fell for it instantly, but as the drydown came, I was bit disappointed because the fullness of the composition was not preserved (as in CO). I guess Cuir X will suit those who dislike the thick and constant iris in CO. Not to mention - significantly higher price tag is also not helping me loving it more, so I will definitely stick to my Cuir Ottoman bottle as the best powdery, sumptuous leather around.

How Louis Vuitton boutiques should smell like... Quite simple and with noticeable synthetic nuances perfume, but very refine, well balanced and easy to wear. This is leather, powdery and with a touch of sweetness. Tonka and saffron are very well used here to provide the leather a warm and elegant touch. Vibe is similar to the one from Marc-Antoine Barrois B683, Cuir X being more powdery and a little bit darker. Average performance, makes this perfume versatile and easy to be liked by others. This is one of my wife's favorites. Uniqueness: medium Scent: 7/10 Performance: average Would I buy it: No (I normally like bolder in your face when talking about leather perfumes, but my wife cannot live without it. Part of my collection and will always be there as long as I am married with the same person)

This is really nice. Not bad from someone who is a bit cautious about the leather. This is quite a cuddly leather. How is that for an oxymoron?! 🤣 This leather softens quite quickly with the sweetness of Tonka and the powderiness of iris. A nice dash of saffron adds another dimension. Rather like Goldilocks I can be really picky. This leather scent is just right for me. Bang on unisex. This scents softens up into a sweet, iris and leather for most of its duration. I definitely get a touch of sexy labdanum in the background. I'm actually pleased it doesn't evolve that much. I don't get any Miss Whiplash. It's a sexy and world travelled beauty. I get average longevity and sillage in this 12 degree room.

La Parfumerie Moderne's story began with a young boy who, one day, accidentally sneaked into a hotel suite and found an unlabeled perfume bottle, forgotten by the previous guest. Intrigued, he smelled it and instantly fell in love with the scent and its secrets. That young boy was Philippe Neirinck, the founder of the Maison. Hence we have the theme of memory, the past, and the mystery of time and memory. The nose behind this project was no other than Marc-Antoine Corticchiato founder of @parfumdempire Why this project went under the radar is not a topic suited to be tackled here. What I want to do is leaving an histrorical record of this brand. The press release went almost like this: Cuir X is set in the lobby of the opulent Hotel Meurice, near the Tuileries. It's the 1920s, among heavy leather armchairs and large stacked trunks, eccentric aristocrats sip whiskey while the charming icons of silent cinema feign indifference, powdering their nose. At the crossroads of adventurers and lovers, femmes fatales and eccentric artists, Salvador Dalí strolls nonchalantly with his jaguar Babou on a leash. The iconic note of the 1920s is reinvented in the warm aroma of leather soaked in amber and saffron, amidst the powdery nuances of iris, on a base of caramelized vanilla, cistus, and tonka bean. That is a good descriptor of the scent: supple leather, almost suede imbued with saffron. The whiskey accord seems verging more on rum to me with hints of plum deprived of its suitness. I also get that magical rubbery tone with a hint of fuel like note (is it something mimiking violet leaf?) that was typical of Gomma by Etro without the herbs. Then it gets softer more balsamic, and supple tahnks to the vanilla and tonka bean and the accentuated powderness of the iris. A different interpretation of leather than Cuir Ottoman for sure. Marc-Antoine Corticchiato is the nose behind the La Parfumerie Moderne Creations, of which I have tried Cuir X and No Sport. These two compositions are rather polished and seamless, and shun the rustic charms of some of the Parfum d'Empire fragrances. Cuir X is definitely a modern leather fragrance, with a composition that hints at high quality leather accessories, and at times leather upholstery. This is in the same canon as other modern leathers such as Cuir Cannage, Cuir Ottoman and Ombre Leather 16. The initial opening has a sparkle with a touch of saffron, that sets the tone for the development to follow. The accord features many suede qualities, but is overall decidedly more leathery. Iris forms a natural harmony, though less prominent compared to Cuir d'Iris or Cuir Ottoman, while a touch of sweetness supports the other elements and add cohesion. Cuir X is not abstract, nor was it meant to be. There is a slight edginess, that brings an element of interest which is maintained over the majority of its lifespan on skin. My personal reservations in the case of Cuir X are twofold: I prefer more sensuous leathers such as Mona di Orio's Cuir, or Cuir Mauresque, or even Cuir Ottoman. The other aspect is that the latter half of its lifespan on skin is rather faint, too subdued, and not as engaging. It loses the edginess, the bodacious leathery accord, and is somewhat thin. Cuir X, nonetheless, possesses an attraction that makes it potentially interesting to anyone considering a modern, friendly leather fragrance. While decidely unisex, I imagine it to be working better on women. It's quite chic. 3/5 (neutral)

A brand new expensive leather jacket hanging on the cupboard while a saffron based Arabian fragrance is applied in the room. Kind of medicinal fragrance (let's say cheap Arabian perfume) that is applied in that room but i can sense the leather jacket in a powdered way and sweetened with tonka beans and the vanilla accord. Very interesting to be honest but not that unique, oh and kind of a safe choice.

Very realistic suede leather. The fragrance is light and airy, starts a little powdery. It smells better on my clothes then on my skin. On my skin it smells too much like plastic. Probably just my chemistry. Too bad! Still looking for my perfect leather fragrance.
