Arancia Rossa

Rated "love" because it's gorgeous ... while it lasts. Feared that the passionfruit might make it cloyingly over-fruity, but no - it walks the tightrope with huge aplomb and eclat and all those big words, because it's got tremendous charm and balance and enough good taste not to push its luck too far with the sweetness. Even the passionfruit is just sharp and musky enough to not outstay its welcome, while the initial blood orange accord is just INCREDIBLY good - zesty and zingy and tingly in all the right ways, bright not bitter, with no dustiness or muskiness or sourness to spoil the fun. Sunny and charming and altogether the virtual walk through an Italian orange grove which the brief promises. I've often failed to vibe with Lab Olfattivo because they tend too sweet for my taste, yet here everything is just right. However, cough cough, Mr Ellena, I have a bone to pick (or a peel to grate?) with you, for this one breaks my heart just a little: its summery beauty does not survive on me, on skin or fabric, for over 2 hours, maybe 3 at the very most. And being lucky enough to own a full bottle of it, I have certainly lashed it on all over, trying huge puffy clouds to envelop my whole self and all the clothes... and still it vanishes sooner than I want it to. Which is a bit of a crushing disappointment when it is - in every other way - the complete package. Still, it's marketed as a cologne, so fair enough; and its joys and charms can't be denied. One to use up with extravagant abandon, and hang the expense ... much like an Italian holiday indeed, these days. I think Bigarade Concentree has held its crown as my orange king forever, but for the brief interlude it survives, Arancia Rossa is truly a worthy contender.

This one is a very strong blood orange tropical scent with maracuyá (passion fruit). It definitely transports me to Mexico, Playa del Carmen and Tulum, drinking fresh passion fruit juice or freshly squeezed orange and grapefruit juice. For some reason, I might be biased, but I can vividly picture the mix of deep red from the blood orange and the bright yellow of a ripe maracuyá. If I were to describe it by color, that’s exactly how it would look. It’s incredibly realistic, like having a tropical juice bottled up. Honestly, I just want to drink it! I love this scent so much, and I really wanted to fall in love with it completely. Unfortunately, it probably doesn’t work well with my skin or body chemistry. As soon as I spray it, I fall in love all over again, but sadly, after 2–3 hours, I can’t smell it anymore. I know citrus fragrances don’t usually last long and don’t have strong sillage, and this one is no exception. When I apply it, it genuinely feels like I just squeezed oranges or I was eating fresh citrus fruit. I’m willing to swap this bottle with someone else. I’ve only given it four tries, and it just didn’t work for me. If you're interested in a swap or would like to buy it, send me a private message. It’s basically new and I kept the original box too. I blind bought this perfume, normally I test them first, but based on the notes, I thought, "What could go wrong?" I’m open to selling it for a little less than the original price too.

(Re-review) I’ve recently been craving this fragrance since it’s starting to get cold out now, oddly getting December vibes in October. Anyway, if theres a citrus i’d like to wear in the winter..its this, perfectly this. I got a sample of this fragrance mainly to see if it smells like passion fruit, and i liked how there are some of my favorite notes in here too..but personally,,i was not expecting a tree farm to hit my nose because that is what I smelt. And I love it! This fragrance is like the smell of the sap that comes from Christmas fir trees (and honestly i lowk did wanted to smell like that at some point) I’ll definitely try and find a way around to getting a good amount of this fragrance this November, i doubt it will be a bottle because of it’s price but who knows if i end up finding a hell of a deal on ebay or something if i’m lucky. This fragrance will be perfect for my citrus scent for this winter ^_^

Monsieur Ellena knows how to work citrus and bring them very natural. The way Arancia Rossa is blended is gorgeous. A scent doesn’t have to be complex with different layers, blah blah. Sometimes, less is more, and here is a perfect example. The blood Orange is refreshing. The passion fruit kicks in a few minutes after the citrus burst. This is not cloying, synthetic, or harsh. Don’t expect to last long...... I don’t care. If I want to extend the longevity, I carry a decant. Stop the obnoxiousness that a fragrance to be good needs to last. This is not a panty dropper, a compliment puller, or all those charades the YouTubers made you to believe. This is class in a bottle. A ride to enjoyment. A trip to escape from the busy and chaotic world, and brings you to a calm, peaceful place. Cheers. Raise your zippy cup, kiddos.

Beautiful. A nose-tickling blast of bitter orange peel and sharp, sour juice that dissolves into lip-smackingly fresh, gently musky passionfruit. As is typical for a JCE fragrance it is quiet and restrained and smells very natural (though thankfully without the BO-like pungency real passionfruit sometimes has!). Longevity is surprisingly good for what it is, especially when sprayed on clothing. It is rather linear and one-dimensional, which is why I mostly use it for layering (I love it for example with Jour d'Hermès, another JCE creation which to my nose benefits greatly from an extra burst of citrus).

I love this. Very much a summer scent. The passionfruit dominates on my skin. Not very long lasting, but not too bad in the context of Ellena's fragrances; and it's priced fairly (£90 for 100ml bottle). Confusingly (to me, anyway) described as a "parfum cologne" - I think it is essentially an eau de cologne, and expectations as to performance should be based on that. In the UK it seems very hard to obtain. Liberty occasionally have it in stock, but it sells out fast and then there is a long wait for it to reappear. My favourite of the Viaggio in Italia series (I think the Mandarino is also good).

This is not a very complex fragrance but that's not a bad thing at all. All I really notice here is orange, passion fruit, and maybe some ripe pineapple (though that might be the interplay of the two previous notes). This is perfectly lovely, slightly sweet without being sickly, faithful to both the oils of a citrus peel and the juicy, sun-warmed flesh. Interestingly, this opens up somewhat green and gets sweeter and more fruity as time goes on. Usually I find citrus perfumes go the other way; this is much nicer! Smells like: A refreshing summer smoothie.

Love it. Arancia Rossa is the most realistic blood orange I’ve ever smelled—juicy, radiant, and kissed with just enough passionfruit to keep it bright and uplifting. Created by Jean-Claude Ellena, it carries his signature lightness: nothing heavy, nothing synthetic. It doesn’t evolve much, but that’s part of its charm. A clean, warm, musky citrus that feels like summer skin. Perfect for hot days when you want something simple, joyful, and effortless. It’s short-lived—more of a skin scent—but I don’t mind reapplying. I carry samples at Nectar Atelier.

Mandarine! Likely my favorite citrus fruit. Not stingy/sharp, gentle and with a touch of warm sweetness. Makes me always come back for more sniffs. There's many solids out there which made it hard to choose between them all, Mandarino (from the same brand), Atelier Colognes, Hermes, Guerlain and the list goes on. However I decided to settle for this one because I felt it was the most balanced in terms of juiciness/sweetness and lastly some greenness to add some realistic elements.

I don't really write reviews for my perfumes because what can one say that hasn't already been said? This one, though. I love it so much. So realistic, so satisfying, so perfectly dialed-in for what it aims to be. Layering this with Afternoon Swim is a slam dunk orange powerhouse. This has rushed to my top 10, it's that good. If you like orange and just a hint of tangy sweet, don't think about it just buy it.

I love this fragrance, I think it’s a beautiful excellent summer fragrance. It’s not overbearing but seems to have quite a bit of longevity. I bought mine while I was on a family trip to Italy. Would love to us it every day during the summer if I could get another in the US, but I don’t know the next time I’m going back to Italy under this current administration so I’m gonna use it sparingly lol

I absolutely adore how realistic the first spray brings. like a juicy, pump blood orange is being squeezed right in front of me. the orange would only linger until noon, and what's left would be a faint passion fruit. I think the transition is very interesting because it turns from something a bit bitter and raw into something sweet and rounded. but I would rather that the orange last longer.

Beautiful fresh blood orange scent. Its opening notes are stunning, it's striking how realistic it is, it's as if you were peeling the fruit. It then dries and develops to a beautiful soft passionfruit skin scent. By hour 4, however, it was undetectable on my skin. I want to eat it.

Masterpiece. I've been wearing this in Madeira and people often confused me with a maracuja. Insanely simple and well crafted. Smells like rubbing skin on skin with a blood orange... the way the blood orange smells after doing so.

Quality over quantity in the composition, this is the archetype of style in summer fragrances. Damn, I'll use it the whole year just to sniff it from time to time during my day. Super natural, delicious, relaxing and happy.

Very nicely done, rather linear, but nice. My skin eats this rt up, so I don't get a lot of longevity. IMHO, it reminds me tremendously of "Summer of "84" by House of Kerosene which is insane and I love more!!

Like God peeling the best blood orange on Earth right into your face — juice and oils spraying everywhere while you’re chewing the perfect orange at she same time. Shame it doesn’t last longer.

It’s a great summertime fragrance, smells like tropical summer in a bottle, you get beautiful blood orange with passionfruit mixed very well together. The smell on this one is 10/10.

This is gooooood, screams summer, juicy, zesty, fruity, (without any cleaning product vibes) well balanced. Casual daytime,not trying too hard, just got it going on. Fantabulous!!!

Smells lile lemon candy! So yummy..

The blood orange and passion fruit smell so fresh and delicious, like you have just cut open the real thing. Delicious. Sparkling, fresh, zesty, a very energising fragrance. Perfect to spray on a summer morning when you need a pick me up. I love it. But then it's mostly gone in a matter of minutes and I can only smell it if my nose is an inch from my wrist. Terrible longevity, will not be buying a full bottle. If anyone can recommend something similar that lasts, please do.

Lovely unisex (can pull more female because of the passion fruit) citrus. Beautiful citrus, without any loud raw materials. The passion fruit note is amazing. If you’ve ever had the Hawaiian sun passion orange drink and spilled some on yourself, it’s that. The passion fruit note is like eating a fresh lilikoi, fresh, tropical and sweet. Moderate projection and longevity, but a very fair price for such a nicely blended juicy citrus fragrance.

very zesty, bright, and joyous! I ordered the entire viaggio in italia sample set and this one was amongst my favorites. the blood orange is so juicy in the opening, almost sparkling. the passionfruit brings equal parts sweetness and tanginess. it would be a total mood booster when worn in the summer. this is the type of scent I would want to use during a future summer trip to Italy.

This is the juiciest tart blood orange being squeezed fresh, with a hint of passionfruit that gives it a sweet touch. For me, 4 sprays projected heavy, put it on before I went to watch a game, got several compliments and was told they could smell me coming. The heat probably helped with the projection. 7.5/10

Most realistic blood orange I’ve ever smelled. Sweet passionfruit under the main accord of blood orange, and a touch of smooth white flowers in the background. Will definitely be buying a full bottle for the summer. 5/5

Grapefruit! It sounds natural, and I think that's why this perfume is so much appreciated. And yes, it's a cologne story, but it's not another cheap citrus cologne splash. Beautifully assembled by a talented perfumer

My wife said to me before buying this scent "Ask yourself the question beforehands: do you want to smell like an orange today?" I said "yes".

Great scent, but poor longevity. To me, it smells like a hybrid of DG's Light Blue Forever and Atelier's Pomelo Paradis.

Very nice sweet and tart and realistic orange scent. I'm not sure if I want to smell like an actual orange though.

POG but make it perfume! Like it a lot. Startlingly realistic.

Orange, Red, Yellow, by Mark Rothko 1961

Testing blind, I was certain this was a grapefruit forward fragrance. But, blood orange - ok, I guess. Still feels more grapefruit but I admit that orange is there. I also get a hint of lemon at the top. There is an underlayment of sweetness, but it isn't cloying. It's fresh, leans green basically. Though, it feels sometimes one note and that's about it, leaving some room for layers below. While the longevity and sillage were strong, and price point fair, there's just not much interest one you get past the grapefruit, er blood orange, sorry. I would layer it though.

The passionfruit ruins this one for me personally. A beautiful blood orange scent, but with something screeching in the background...the cloying sweetness of passionfruit. It’s almost artificial and very distracting.

Photorealistic blood orange for the first few minutes but then it smells like some kind of lemon/orange candy. It is like someone spilled orange juice on your t-shirt which has now dried in the sun. I can only see people wearing this during a hot beach day. Sillage and performance is moderate on my skin. The scent profile is quite unique as it's the first time smelling something like this.. It gets better after a few wearings, but personally i don't want to smell like fizzy Fanta, even though the scent trail of the drydown is quite okay. Late drydown becomes a bit musky but unfortunately at that point the fragrance barely projects anymore. There are also plenty of better options for these blazing summer days... Only safe for blind buy if you love orange flavored candy.

On me, it turns nauseatingly sweet after the initial citrus blast settles. Not refreshing in any sense, and not summer appropriate!

A really pleasant and easy to wear fragrance. It is the perfect balance between photorealism and fantasy. Often citrus fragrances are realistic, acidic, and refreshingly sharp, while other times they are simply overloaded with modern musks and woody ambers to create a pleasant but forgettable experience. In Arancia Rossa JCE takes a third approach. He creates something modern and playful without resorting to the use of those tenacious and overwhelming modern materials. Instead it seems he moderately doses the musks for a soft bed of modernity in the base, but then brings a unique twist to citrus genre; he adds atypical fruity notes creating the impression of guava/passionfruit and then brings down the tangy sharpness with something sweet which I guess could be maltol. I think the citrus is mostly sweet orange oil, that comes across like blood orange when combined with maltol sweetness, and sulfurous notes. The sulfurous effect is not prominent but brings a realism to the blood orange accord and probably gives this exotic tropical twist to the fragrance. An uplifting but subtle transparent synthetic floral screen makes everything shimmer; without being identifiable we get whispers of jasmin and orange blossom. In summary you get a very beautiful and realistic blood orange opening, drying down to a soft, sweet, and musky fluffy base. The effect reminds me a bit of Initio's Musk Therapy taken in the tropical blood orange direction. If you are looking for something totally ground break or attention catching, well this is not it, but you do get a really balanced and refreshingly playful perfume.

Actually i really like the smell and the performance longevity and silage.. and i have almost 200 perfumes But my wife make me disappointment because every time i wear these perfume she said she don’t like it because i smell like a badly sweaty as she said after i wear it more than 1 hour even on my clothes not just on my skin . I spray it on tissue and let her to smell it again after 30 min she said the same thing 😅 .. i was thinking maybe the perfume reactions in bad way with my body but even on the tissue the same thing she said .. i was like the perfume to much for the summer but after that i didn’t wear it because i feel i am not confident to wear it again maybe others smells me and think i am really bad sweaty 😅 .. did any one have the same issue !?! By the way i am still like the perfume .

true grapefruit scent. it's not even a perfume, it just smells like grapefruit being cut on a wooden board at the kitchen, then biting directly into the fruit itself, tearing a bit of the skin with your teeth. sour, fresh, sweet in a non-sugary way. there's no orange blossom or any other note for me, apart from the fruit itself. i'm starting to think this is just grapefruit juice in a bottle. delicious, fresh, perfect for the summer but definitely heavy. doesn't last too long, and it's a tad linear, so i don't know if the price is justifiable. however, the scent is definitely pure fruit juice.

This is very realistic orange. The passion fruit adds a slight bitter sweetness which makes it interesting. It does remind me a bit of tropical punch which puts me off a bit- like I’ve spilled my drink on myself but I reckon that on a scorching hot day, that might be fantastic. I do wish there were a bit more greenness- perhaps a bit of a herbal bite to cut through the sweetness but I think it is well crafted and wearable for high summer. There is not a lot of progression- pretty simple (probably deceptively so) and linear.

Very simple as the notes suggest. I get pure, true grapefruit, with the bitter white bits, and fresh juice. I get no musk or orange blossom, just pure grapefruit, like you might eat for breakfast. It’s good for that, though, absolutely true, but it’s just that and not really a perfume to me. If I got the other notes, I think it would be a winner, so it will depend on what your skin does with it and how your nose reacts. I generally get along fine with Ellena's work, but this one is just a true scent of fresh grapefruit.

I'll chime in that it is a gorgeous, slightly tart citrus scent, but the comments regarding longevity surprised me. I sprayed it on the back of my hand at the shop 7 hours ago and I'm still smelling it through 4 hand washings. I tried it again today at our local perfume shop and now all I'm getting is basil? It smells like Italian food is cooking on the stove. Not sure what's going on!

A pleasant scent. It opens with a sweet blood orange smell, as you might expect. In the heart it gets a little tropical fruity, combined with some indistinct florals. It's not terribly sugar-y, but it has a bit of a gourmand quality about it. Also a bit shampoo-y at the same time. I'm thinking of the Garnier Fructis products from the early 00's. Very weak performance on my skin.

IMO this one is the most beautiful and strongest creation so far from the Viaggio in Italia collection. This is the dance back and forth of orange & passion fruit with the passion fruit takes center stage more often. From a far the smell can also be interprete as ripe pink guava. While majority of fragrances from the line have decent longevity this one lasts easily 10hrs.

Bright and colorful fireworks for a very brief time. This is a gorgeous scent, hyper realistic bloody orange and passion fruit very natural smelling and somewhat candied but light at the same time. It lasts a few heartbeats and then puff...gone... I still would like to have a full bottle just to enjoy the scent now and then....

Very much like you what you would expect, Arancia rossa is very fruity, citrusy, light and carefree. Has Ellena's transparent style written all over it. Perfect for summer, obviously. It's very good, but I prefer Mandarino . I think it's interesting why we interpret fruity as feminine. Why is fruit feminine?
