Vetyver (2003)

Vetyver de Lanvin is a very pleasant fragrance, from start to finish. I read on some websites that people think its fragrance smells like car freshener. I disagree! It is a very elegant and fresh vetiver, without that strong characteristic of a Guerlain’s Vetiver, for example. Not that the latter is not good. But in Vetyver de Lanvin, the smell is more linear and less aggressive. Vetyver de Lanvin is that kind of good scent that pleases easily, especially in daytime programs. However, it is very soft for my personal taste (Lanvin L'homme, for example, is much superior). Still, it has a fragrance that lasts very well, making it one of those perfumes that are fresh, soft and full of quality.

It is a Nice scent , Light, Clean, Crisp and Unique. This review is based on the new reformulation and I bought it blind-buy after I read positive comments. If you like Perfumes with the Vetyver note similar to Guerlain Vetyver, Lanvin Vetyver is not suitable for You ! In this fragrance the Vetyver note is not dominant, but Lanvin vetyver is very Unique. It opens up with sweet fresh citrusy and spices notes in the background then dry down is musky woody. Longevity is Average , It is hard to find and l bought it with inexpensive price. I'm so happy that I have it in my collection. Rating : 7 / 10

This is a perfect summery refreshing fragrance, suitable both for men and women. Clean, grassy, green, cooling and not overwhelming. Stays several hours on skin and much longer on clothes. I will take it for holiday's guided tours :) The only complaint is that I wish a fragrance named "Vetyver" contained a more characteristic rendition of vetiver, here it is very subdued. Nevertheless, a good choice!

Smelled today. Very good scent but imho the name "vetyver" is misleading: it is more soapy and musky. Vetyver is not dominant as in other fragrances (Guerlain, Tom Ford, Encre Noire, etc.)

LANVIN Vetyver is by far my favorite EDT. I ran out of it years ago and have never been able to find until now.

I wasn't impressed so much... How badly I wanted this e.d.t and couldn't find it anywhere for a long time. Finally I got it and... Probably It doesn't work with my skin chemistry. Disappointed,,,Poor longevity, poor sillage. Sits very close to skin. Nothing in-common with quality of the original Lanvin's pour Homme or Sport edition for example. Just gentle woody and very light notes scent. I noticed some notes from the list but its all gone very quickly . Bottom line is nothing so special! Guerlain's Vetyver (or Extreme Vetyver) for example are much better. This one was a waste of money...

Yes, it does have the sharp green of a vetiver scent, but boy is it ever chemical...second only to Insense Ultramarine (eau de nail polish and hair spray). I have enough respectable vetiver scents, and even decent drugstore-level green scents, to let this one go.

I have a number of 'Vitiver' based fragrances. In every instances, except for Lanvin Vitiver, other Vitiver fragrances stands out, or some Vitiver fragrances are like riding the back of the wagon (the top notes phase), then moving to behind the seat (the middle notes phase), then moving up into the seat and taking charge (the base notes phase), but alas, no such distinctive Vitiver presence, either as a stand out or as a ease-in, is present in Lanvin's offering. Given all the prior positive comments concerning this fragrance, not in a single instance does anyone describe the woody and resinous fragrance qualities characteristic of Vitiver itself. This leads me to believe that the reviewers may in fact not know what Vitiver and its scent presence is supposed to smell like, and are instead accepting the label as fact, while extolling the positives of their experience with this Lanvin fragrance offering (which experience, even void of vitiver, is valid and not disputed by this reviewer). If Vitiver is present in this fragrance, it is sadly in the tertiary level of the ingredients, down there with the very small amounts of highly chemicalized fixatives, being a very minor player subordinate to other fragrance ingredients to the point the vitiver scent experience is for all intents and purposes non-existant. Given this observation, I'm inclined to agree with the reviews that say this 'modern' version of this 'Vitiver' label is nothing like the legacy/vintage offering of this fragrance by Lanvin, which leads me to my next point. This version of Lanvin's Vitiver is full of chemicals and artifical fragrance agents that just sends the chemically sensitive into orbit (a very important factor concerning this scents fairly strong silage and 'ambient aromatic/chemical reach'), indicative of Lanvin having screwed with the earlier, and probably more expensive to make, legacy/vintage version of this scent that in all likelihood was made of naturally occurring fragrances throughout in the traditional fashion, and having their modern perfume chemists come up with a cheaper chemical and artificial fragrance based 'copy' of the original that in the final analysis does not hold up to the original formula and shows the a once great fragrance house like Lanvin has fallen to the grasp of economies of scale driven cheapening of their products in fancier and more glitzy packaging and skinny model driven promos... you get my drift. My advice, if you're looking for a 'vitiver' based scent, this is not the one for you, and it really is a cheap chemical artificial fragrance based scent at that in cool looking packaging. However, don't let the packaging fool you. And for you chemically sensitive canaries out there, do a 180 degree on this one and put as much space between it and you as you can.

Lanvin’s Vetyver is a pleasantly fresh, green, soapy fragrance that stays subtly on the skin and is not to overpowering, it feels light, soft and very cooling to the skin with citrus, woody, spicy and green notes which begins with lime, bergamot and juniper transitioning into nutmeg and jasmine and finally we get notes amber, sandalwood and vetiver. The bergamot is very fresh and bright with the juniper flowing in between the bergamot very well then the slight aroma of nutmeg appears while I get a big hit of jasmine which settles down quickly into the notes of divine amber, smooth sandalwood and I hate to say this (given the name of this fragrance) but the vetiver feels restrained. Which isn’t a bad thing but I did expect a bit more power from the vetiver. Longevity I get at least 4-6 hours and projection I get 3-4 hours, Vetyver is a light fragrance is best suited to casual gatherings or office environments during the spring and summer months during the day when the weather is nice and warm. Overall, this is a good fragrance that can easily be picked up and sprayed without causing any offence to those around you; it also can be used as a nice calming and cooling fragrance when you’re out in the sun. Very fresh, clean and spicy and one I do recommend who is just beginning their journey into the world of fragrances.

A beautiful and unique rendition of vetiver and an underappreciated fragrance overall. I have never smelled the vintage formulation of Lanvin's Vetyver, which was said to be a landmark vetiver, and which was relaunched in this updated form, but sadly, this modern version is now discontinued, too. Devotees of pure and raw vetivers be warned that vetiver is quite subdued in this blend, but still there, and it grows stronger late in the drydown. I've got a small sampler vial of Vetyver a few years ago and did not care for it too much then. Now I had grabbed the opportunity and bought a big bottle at a clearance for a very humble price. True, this is an extremely mild fragrance for a vetiver that should be applied liberally in order to bring out the best in it. It is well-balanced and smooth. Surprisingly, the sum of its parts - citrus, woody, spicy and green notes - gives me a strange impression of something fruity and familiar. It just occurs to me from time to time when I smell it: it's apricot skin! Now, to live with a Luca Turinesque image: it feels like apricot jam bathing in an soft neon glow of emerald green. It's classy and wearable in all settings.

This review is for the vintage version, 1964 I think. The notes seem to be bergamot, lemon, petitgrain, sage, clary sage; carnation, jasmine, rose, origanum; vetiver, civet, labdanum, and leather. The drydown is similar to vintage Tabu, except that Tabu is more vanillic/sweeter and has less (if any) vetiver. Though a guy, I prefer the Tabu, because this is a bit harsh and seems to be missing a little something to make it complete, but then again, I prefer the complex fragrances. The animalic qualities persist for a long time and the vetiver is not really strong, or at least it's not that harsh, smokey vetiver you get in fragrances like Encre Noire. There is, however, a kind of smoldering, rubbery quality to the vetiver note, presumably. Overall, there's nothing "wrong" with it, but other than a few aficionados, I can't imagine who it would appeal to these days. Longevity is very good and projection/"sillage" is at least good.

Many years ago, as a child, the original Vetyver by Lanvin made me realize the quiet power of fragrances. There was this bottle at home, and never I grew tired of it. I could not know it would disappear form the market. Biggish octagonal bottle with a black cap. I go freshness at the start, from some citrus fruit, than a soothing vetiver, and a dry-down like fresh magnolias. Would not mind wearing it again, I though. After a week, on a flea market's stand, I found a full, very small bottle of LV. I waited for a sunny day. And then, lo and behold... but no, no miracle for me, no prince charming under the toad. The juice kept a stubborn gummy note, rather acidic, rather flat. Off, maybe - it could be a very old bottle, maybe as old as me! I wonder how far back goes the reformulation. But now I must definitely try the last version.

Managed to get hold of a bottle and although I really like the fragrance, it’s just a whisper of a scent and is gone from my skin in under an hour. I was beginning to think it might be the bottle I purchased, but looking at other reviews it seems to be the same for others too. A nice soapy green fresh scent. I just wished it would last! Incredibly poor projection and sillage. I’ll just use it for casual wear and to the gym.

The original/vintage Vetyver was a real masterpiece. It opened with citrus notes bur soon gave way to a clean smelling incense/soapy fragrance with hints of mastic... Superb and ingenious, sophisticated, chic and sexy at the same time!!! Alas the rendition bears no resemblance to the original. I wish Lanvin relaunched the original Vetyver.

This is a nice green soapy scent. It is very light and is not an attention-getter. I like this one just I as I like the other Lanvin scents. This is a great scent for the office or for a casual event.
