Cuir Grenat

somebody put raspberry sorbet in a leather shoe and i kinda... love it? when i first sprayed it i started laughing because of the image that came to mind, but then it started settling into my skin and became really nice. i'm not into freshies or gourmands, and usually do not like sweet smelling perfumes, but something about the leather cuts through the sweetness of the raspberry, giving it body and depth. simultaneously, the sweetness of the raspberry cuts through the sharpness of the leather. there's something carnal and a little playful (a bit femme fatale) about the balance of these two elements. I can see why some people are comparing this to tf tuscan leather and godophin but i think the differences are noteworthy. in comparison to the tom ford, the leather and raspberry here are similar, but cuir grenat has no woody earthiness and the raspberry is stronger. godophin, too, has the fruity/leather thing going on, but it has a lot of other stuff going on too. there's a herbal quality and a powderiness/amberness there that softens and rounds the edges of things a bit. cuir grenat is more stripped down and fruit forward than both of these. it is raspberry and leather straight up, which may be good or boring, depending on your taste. personally, i like leather scents, and enjoy the stripped down way the raspberry and leather play off of each other in this fragrance. leather scents are always polarizing, in my experience, so i never expect them to be universally appealing when i wear them. my partner, for example, says i smell like a leather sofa when i wear this, and my mother says i smell like "a man" (whatever that means) -- but i don't wear perfume for them :) do what makes you happy, and buy what you like. personally, i like this.

Ok, this hits the target perfectly. I absolutely love it. My skin is weird and almost always negatively changes fragrances, stripping them of beauty. Here, it was a great match. This is beautiful and multi-layered, well-blended, making a statement that remains chic. Perfectly unisex. The leather is front stage and center but it's a ballet performance not a Wagner opera- it smells like Hermes leather, not car seat (although this, too, has its virtues). Raspberry elevates and refines it. I also get iris and black tea, even though they are not listed. It's very balanced and remains airy (ambroxan?) and complex throughout the day. Decent projection and longevity, always appreciated at this price point (but unfortunately not guaranteed these days). This definitely evokes Tom Ford leather ideas but this is much better conceived and executed. It is in the same fragrance family as Saffron Lazuli, for example, but this is the calmer, introspective sister. Still impactful, just not so BIG. Full bottle-worthy, definitely.

Wow, this is gorgeous. There’s more going on here than the three notes listed. Cuir Grenat is a perfectly executed raspberry leather, an ideal balance of sweet-tart raspberry and slightly gritty leather. Although I believe this is totally unisex, it has an element of delicateness which renders it an easy wear for all. The closest comparison is Via Velluto by Fabbrica Della Musa, which I love as well. This was difficult to source in the US, but it was well worth tracking down a bottle. The best of L’Artisan for me, as reasonable longevity is elusive for me with this house, especially considering the price point. J’adore.

Simply a beautiful fragrance. The leather is so soft and pure and blends perfectly into the vibrant, juicy raspberry creating a perfect marriage. The fragrance is so well balanced and performs decently. There are on frills and thrills with this fragrance but it is such a beautiful depiction of leather. Despite similar notes, to me this is different from both Tuscan and Ombre leather and those are two of my most loved fragrances. I really love the simplicity and purity of this masterpiece.

I love this fragrance - for some reason it reminds me of the 90’s... probably when I wore the most leather. It didn’t last very long on my skin but I could just be nose-blind because it’s so familiar. I don’t really get the fruity/raspberries... faintly after some time.

Je commence dans le parfum et c'est mon coup de foudre. L'odeur est hyper bien dosé on croirait presque devenir une framboise. J'en ai mit ce matin et je peux vous dire que 10h après même avec l'odeur diminuée je prends plaisir a sentir mes poignées. 10/10

In my opinion, a very pleasant leather due to the raspberry note. I prefer this one to the more opulent, mass market targeted TFs out there which use the same recipe. Definetley a cold season scent, a must try before buying. Totally recommend!

More ombré leather than Tuscan leather for me . It’s more fruity but they are almost identical. I have TF as well and actually prefer this as seems to project more and last longer . Price wise it’s on par with TF.

One of the purest raspberries I've ever smelled. The leather acts as a complement, somehow making it even purer of a raspberry scent by blunting the sweetness. Uncomplicated scent with perfect execution.

Cuir Grenat - the modernist/minimalist approach to the popular raspberry-leather scent profile. Raspberry notes and I have a long history of not getting along, I’m yet to find one I can enjoy. The good thing is this isn’t repulsive, which is how I find most raspberry fragrances. This takes the idea of that rugged brutalist scream that the leather usually has, and turns it into a whisper. The raspberry, dampened and flattened so as to retain its sweetness without becoming sickly. Blanketed over the top is a noticeable amount of ambrofix which gives the scent this overall clean, shower-gel sort of quality. It’s nice, I like the fact that the clean soapy aspect of it balances what could have been a harsh and distasteful perfume. I will enjoy wearing my decant but I wouldn’t buy a bottle as it’s simply not my style.

Layered this with Safanad and Golden Wood today and it was simply amazing! The powdery orange blossom in Safanad accentuated the raspberry note, while Golden Wood, which also has juicy mandarin and bergamot top notes, brought the woody base notes of guaiac and oak that really plays well off of the leather. Fantastic combo!

Very clean modern leather, coming from someone who is usually opposed to such a profile and a well balanced, tart yet sweet raspberry with no stickyness. Was initially thinking in the direction of pomegranate before I saw the listed notes.

I can’t like this super strong leather note. The raspberry is gnarly, luckily it’s absorbed by the leather. “Luckily.” This is leather enhanced to the 14th power. Could benefit from some ghostly 👻 subtlety. Edit: okay, it grew on me. 😏

It is linear, maybe not the most unique leather, not very smoky and certainly not for those who do not favor fruit-scented leather. I do find this a beautiful fragrance though. I did not expect to gravitate towards fruit & leather.

I noticed how similar this is to Purple Suede (Goldfield & Banks). I prefer Purple Suede, but I cannot deny that Cuir Grenat is beautiful! I can't compare to Ombré Leather, for I have never tested OL.

Really nice leather fragrance. the raspberry is truly present and its smell spreads like an hibiscus and raspberry infusion/tea. However you have to enjoy leathery fragrances. It don’t last long on me

This smells exactly like goldophin, I wore goldophin other day and then just wore this today. Pretty damn similar. Still beautiful love the raspberry blend.

This is the first perfume I've ever smelt with a leather note - when it's still wet it really does smell like a leather sofa! It becomes a little less alarming as it dries, as the raspberry adds a faint background sweetness. Can't detect much more complexity than that though. Not sure how I feel about this one.

Ricorda in modo molto fotorealistico l'interno di una bella borsa di cuoio artigianale. Molto suggestivo per l'autunno, nel giusto contesto. Magari per la metà del prezzo se consideriamo che la stessa casa produce capolavori come histoire d'orager extreme che pare prodotto dagli angeli.

Ombre Leather re-bottled. Is creativity dead?

This is decent but nothing to write home about. I'm kinda surprised why they needed to release this right now as previously mentioned by other reviewers, there are a million fruity leathers that smell like Cuir Grenat. Yes it is a refined leather scent, but that's it. May be a safe choice if you're into leather fragrances. Reminds me of Godolphin by PdM a little, but a washed out version of it.

I absolutely adored this in the store, but not so much from the sample. It's initially straight up leather, but then I get some of the fruitiness peaking through, but wish that was a bit stronger. Still interesting to me so will keep the sample and try again

Il est vraiment très beau il beaucoup plus de douceur que les TF mais ça a était tellement fait et refait mais si vous aimez le cuir et le ombre c’est vraiment à essayer et choisir un des trois qui sont tous très beaux

How do you guys even smell the rasberry? I get ONLY leather from this. Pure leather. Like somebody below said - smells like leather sofa. Seemed kinda lazy fragrance for me, especially when I'm not a fan of leather.

Good scent. You very distinctly get Raspberry and leather. To me not a whole lot else is going on in the scent and it doesn’t change from start to finish on me. VERY long lasting though. Defs recommend

So...have people actually smelled this to be able to compare it to Tuscan Leather? Or is that just the assumption because TWO of the notes released are raspberry and leather? I wonder....

My husband curled up his nose and said it smells like an industrial leather couch no thank you I tried like it listening to a review they it was so beautiful

I miss Bertrand Duchaufour’s creations for this house. I miss Traversee du Bosphore. That was a stunner and nowadays it would be a hype, for sure.

The leather and raspberry go so well with skin, it blends together to create something natural and carnal.

Gorgeous. It smells like love, tenderness and mystery.
