Iris de Gris

Iris de Gris feels natural and earthy. Broken green stems, a little soil, some roots, some rain and something a tiny bit floral but that’s almost an afterthought in its beginning stage. The Iris gets a bit stronger as the perfume ages on the skin but the floral never overpowers the sense of green earthiness. It brings a little powder toward the end, but it’s minimal. This is a very rooty, green, fresh and vegetal Iris. Not at all like the powder bombs some Iris perfumes can be. And although I like those, I really like this as well. Very much recalls the smell of walking through a dense undergrowth in a forest soon after a light rain. I know it’s meant to be a pea accord, but to me it smells of pure green sap and the galbanum gives that green a bitter edge that makes it so realistic. Totally unisex and uplifting in the way things that truly smell of nature and remind us of happy times spent outdoors can be. It’s linear and feels modern, probably because of the almost stripped down feel of it and the clarity of vision as well as kind of a disregard of the traditional perfume stages. Lasts 7-8 hours on the skin.

I'm sampling from a 1.5 ml decant. Iris de Gris is a lovely Iris fragrance. I immediately smell iris when I spray this on my wrists. I love the fresh pea note. At times I think I am picking up on the slightest hint of mint. I could just be imagining it. Peas are often served with mint. This fragrance is a refreshing interpretation of iris. I love that the iris is not combined with violet or heliotrope. Chanel No. 19 is a beautiful galbanum iris perfume that includes violet. Iris de Gris reminds me a little of Poudre. Iris de Gris is less powdery. The galbanum and pea bring life and green transparency to Iris de Gris. No. 19 Poudre brings more heft to the iris with the addition of neroli and jasmine. Iris has become my favorite floral note in fragrance. I have many iris fragrances in my collection. Iris de Gris is unique and pretty enough to warrant a full bottle. I added Hiris to my collection this year. Next year I will add Iris de Gris. I know that I will enjoy wearing this fragrance often.

This is an absolute 10/10 for me in terms of scent profile/how it actually smells. I love this to death. Earthy, green, fresh, vibrant, photorealistic plant notes. However, the longevity is, and I'm not being hyperbolic: atrocious. The projection is also almost zero. I had a 1ml decant and was curious if it was because I was using a blotter, so I bought a 10ml pressurized atomizer decant, and same thing. Doused myself in this and it's barely detectable. I couldn't possibly justify purchasing a bottle, even though arguably this is one of the nicest perfumes I have ever smelled. Pretty sad about it! Scent: 10/10 Projection: 1/10 Longevity: 3/10 Full bottle: Very sadly, no.

Tried a sample from the house, which u can purchase from l’artisan’s website (2 samples with delivery for 7,50€) The green peas pod is what i smell at the beginning. Is the peas “folder” :-) So you get this very green earthy smell and the iris contributes to this earthiness. It’s pleasant and surprisingly elegant, but still too green for my tastes. Just not my thing but a very interesting creative juice. Try it if you’re a frag nerd. The cardboard also says musks and vibrant woods. EDIT: It’s the morning after and i can still smell it clearly on my hand. It grew on me, the smell is very classy, creamy green elegant. Earthy, rounded, very very giod job!

Halfway through my sample of this and unfortunately I think I’m starting to love this fragrance. Unfortunate only because of the price point. This is so earthy, green, and interesting. I absolutely love the pea note in this, it’s so unique. It may also be my favourite iris blend that I’ve tried so far too. It’s a great option for those who find florals to be too powdery or heady at times. It’s very unisex. This just screams spring to me. It also layers beautifully with Juliette Has a Gun’s Not a Perfume to deepen the profile into a well-rounded, musky yet fresh scent. A full sized bottle may be in my future!

Review from sample, 2-day wear test: I got the sample only because it was featured on Persolaise top 10 list for 2022 and I am a big fan of his. I expected not to like this at all... This is green, vegetal, a kind of wet, slightly oily vegetal ( from the peas presumably?) scent, intertwined with iris. To my nose not powdery. Fresh, yet elegant. Very captivating and perfect for spring. Pretty easy to wear. Moderate longevity and projection, wafted in and out of my consciousness during the day. And what do you know, at the end of the second day, I needed a full bottle... Perfectly unisex in my opinion.

I bought Iris de Gris blind—a ballsy move given the mixed reviews and that peculiar pea note, but it paid off in the best way. It’s calm and green, with soft iris and this beautiful freshness that feels like nature waking up. The pea note adds a dewy, vegetal sweetness that makes everything feel alive and within reach, and even though it’s not actually listed, there’s a subtle thread of cool mint running through it, like a breath of morning air. It’s quiet and thoughtful, somehow both grounding and uplifting at the same time, and definitely worth testing if you’re even a little bit curious.

This is absolutely gorgeous! Such an incredible composition! It opens with this citrusy BURST of vegetal-green that evolves into this really beautiful, well-balanced, slightly citrusy, powdery, green, earthy fragrance. Unlike the other reviewers, I don’t get any soil. However, I do get this starchy, photorealistic green pea note that underlines the composition, working to balance the fragrance by keeping it fresh and providing some olfactory relief from the citrus so it doesn’t become too sharp. Masterfully blended, completely unisex. I can’t stop smelling it! Truly a remarkable creation.

Iris de Gris is the perfect bright green, happy, springy pea fragrance. It’s so unique, but very well-executed and balanced. I finished my sample in just a week even though I rarely wear the same thing multiple days in a row, and then I quickly upgraded to a full size bottle. This is obsession worthy for me. I can practically taste the peas straight out of the garden with this. It has pretty decent projection and longevity for me— I catch little wafts of it many hours later. Perfect for spring and warmer weather.

I purchased this fragrance last year when I was trying to find a new summer scent and wanted to smell like a sexy garden. This is ittttt. I like to layer it with Indult Tihota. Although the price point is high, this fragrance is STRONG and you don't need a lot, so it lasts. For me it's typically too strong to spray it directly on my skin, I have to spray then walk through to have a fragrance level that I'm comfortable with from a single spray. I get compliments nearly every time I wear this.

Beautiful, elegant and my new favorite for summer. The opening for me is gorgeous peas and iris followed by the bergamot and an earthy tone. Not over complex yet a stunning blend. The dry down is iris and woodsy not that powdery which makes it ideal for me. And all that from a sample. I will be getting a full bottle.

I was searching for a fragrance similar to She Wood by DSquared2 (Daphne Bugey), and out of approximately 15 samples of perfumes, I think Iris de Gris is the most similar. It has that fresh and dryly sweet smell that I absolutely love. While the bottle is pricey, I do think it's next on my list.

Quentin Bisch did it again! This is such a green effervescent iris. The pea note is just so unique making iris fresh and not that powdery. This scent really stands out from most niche iris scent. My new love.

Its a really interesting combination. Wet iris root with a slightly earthy facet and the greenness, the pea. The bergamot is not really a facet here, its more the harmoniser, the component that supports the other two and creates a kind of effervescence to the fragrance. There could be galbanum here but if there is, its toned down so no bitterness comes through. I don’t think this one goes anywhere - what you see is what you get - or what you get is what you get - but what you get is interesting and tickles my nose and brain in a nice way. These linear scents - I would struggle to get through a big bottle - but I’d happily have 30ml of this one. There is something futuristic about this I can’t put my finger on. Its crisp and a little tart but in a green way rather than citrusy way. If someone wants to swop 10-30ml to another L’Artisan, pm me - I have a few. Long drydown - the next morning - you have a glorious, almost edible, soft, buttery skin scent that has no resemblance to the rather cold and almost austere (but interesting) original presentation. Its like the shiny chrome surfaced spaceship opened up to reveal a cosy mid century velvet sofa and a library.

This one is fascinating, not because it’s particularly wearable, but because it plays with scent in a way that feels more like an olfactory study than a traditional perfume. Iris de Gris reminds me of something vegetal—not neccessarily a pea, but something in that world, fresh yet oddly starchy, as if a handful of green pods were ground into fine powder. The pea accord makes sense when you consider its powdery and chalky nature, but the impression is more one like rubbing crushed greens between your fingers and feeling the fine dust they leave behind. Its opening is rather bright, a sharp flicker of citrus that enlivens the composition before settling into something drier, more true to its greenness, and down to earth. It smells alive, but in a muted, grounded way—not fresh and dewy, but more like the scent of sun-warmed vegetables in late summer. I wouldn’t necessarily want to smell like this myself, but I truly do admire how well this fragrance is done. It’s a scent that makes you think, undeniably unique and meticulously crafted.

I got a decant of Iris De Gris out of curiosity, because I couldn't imagine a pea note, especially not a good one. And it was a success: now I can! It actually works surprisingly well - it really smells of peas, but thankfully not of the cooked variety: it has the subtle fresh earthy green of the freshly picked peas in their pods. And the main player, as the name suggests, is very much the iris note that is a great complement to the pea, making it less gimmicky. It does smell pretty weird in the opening, or at least unexpected, but as it settles down it's just a nice light iris with a green streak, simple and beautiful. Which makes this scent both original and wearable - not what I was expecting, but a delight to discover! I doubt this will ever be a bestseller, but it does go to show that experiments like this can be worthwhile beyond just their experimental character. I'm definitely keeping my decant around for when I'm tired of all the usual suspects on a summer day that calls for something light.

Creative, but extremely wearable. This isn't powdery to my nose, it's green and slightly earthy. I could definitely smell the peas(the shell, not the beans inside...is it called 'shell'? lol ENG is my 5th language, so...), but only for few seconds alongside the bergamot, and a good dose of galbanum. After few minutes, I was left with a combo of galbanum and a hint of iris. The iris here isn't "makeup-y" at all, but rather earthy. Because I like galbanum a lot, I was going to purchase it straight away at Selfridges, but I've rather decided to just spray it on my hand, and go for a walk. Result? I'm not so sure anymore, it's rather on the weak side. I sprayed Etat Libre d'Orange's 'You or Someone Like You' just before it on the other hand, and after 4 hours, I can definitely smell it, while Iris de Gris is completely gone. Edit: I read a review below after I wrote mine, and the person said that s/he had a good experience with longevity; so, maybe it's just my skin!

It's a very straightforward galbanum perfume, linear and monodimensional. However, despite this typically resulting in a disappointing perfume, in Iris de Gris this works to its credit. You can almost see colors overlapping: the green of the pea/galbanum note pulling the green out of the purple iris to come together and evoke some interesting share of greenish purpleish gray. It's a much different presentation of iris than we - or maybe just I - am used to. It's like the iris has lost its color but not its life. Beautiful materials beautifully blended into a simple but unique statement. If you're looking for complexity, you won't find it here, but if you're looking for beauty - like the feeling you get while admiring the simple beauty and symmetry of an iris flower - than this is for you. We need more perfumes like this. I approve.

A cool, light iris-musk blanched of floral power — though something appealingly sleek and modern remains — underpins a fresh, bittersweet, sap-like, green dimension from the listed pea and galbanum notes. A pea-pod opening drying to a fresh, humid, woody musk. This is a favourite of mine from L’Artisan Parfumeur. Not much boudoir iris at all, just cool, pleasant, green-purple aromatics. And despite the green pea, its gris/grey, moss-adjacent qualities seem to suit my autumn mood better than spring/summer. The base is cold, sheer musk, almost metallic at times, with ambrofix making Iris de Gris feel fresh and clean in that contemporary way. Sometimes Quentin Bisch is too heavy-handed with the aromachemicals for me but here he has created something captivating, enjoyable and inventive.
