Mon Numero 9

I have to agree with others on this page that Mon Numéro 9 isn't particularly original, but I don't mind, since it's the kind of scent I personally can't get enough of, and it's so very well done here. The opening especially is a summer delight for a citrus lover like myself: extremely tart, intsene, realistic citron joined by green rhubarb - delicious! When it dries down, which is pretty quickly as can be expected from any cologne, the citrus remains dominant but the bright acidic aspect is replaced by a more herbal, even slightly vegetable vibe. It reminds me vaguely of green herb salt, but in a good way, and not salty at all, if that makes any sense? I know it sounds strange, but it's surprisingly nice and well suited to the citrus notes. I guess this must be the shiso leaf, which I've never smelled before, but whatever it is, it's working! I have a little decant of this that I'll enjoy spending the summer with, and I won't be surprised if it turns into a full in the not too distant future. I love sampling all corners of the perfume world, but when it comes right down to daily wear, I'll take enjoyment over originality any day, and this one is getting full marks in that respect, at least in my book.

Any time, any day, any occasion, any season (maybe a little less on the coldest day in winter), this makes you smell like an assured sophisticated "welcomed everywhere" dandy that "smells rich", is funny and smart but never arrogant... ...sort of David Niven type of character... It can easily nestle on a man's or a woman's dressing table as it smells simple, crisp and clean without giving that straight out of a barber shop effect. Also the Batucada comparison is not on a radar here IMHO, as there is no apparent heaviness of a lime and sea kick in here but a warm-tangy-green-and-red rhubarb freshness dominates instead. Silk cravat in satin gray/pink tone and a glistening well pressed white poplin shirt optional but maybe not essential, as long as you have a glass of a smooth chilled white, or a fine bubbly or even a G+T at hand, this scent will transform the way you describe clean and fresh in a scent world(a BIG NO-NO !!! to any beach wear of flip-flops with this gentleman please)

This isn't an instantly uplifting citrus bomb like many of today's colognes. It has very traditional Italian heritage in starting the fragrance journey from within the coolness of a stone tiled kitchen, before venturing out into the garden on a hot summer's early evening to eat a healthy salad with family under the dappled shade of a twisted and knotted ancient olive tree. A leafy citrus fragrant breeze is blowing across the gathering from the nearby Amalfi lemon groves, bringing with it a very light saltiness from the sea. This cologne needs time to develop from the initial fragrant olive oil note, as this will allow for the zesty citrus to come to the forefront. This is backed up by a simple resinous accord, with what might be a lightly salted vetiver. The notes are far more expansive than Fragrantica have listed, and there isn't any rhubarb to be found anywhere in this delightful composition.

gorgeous scent! it does smell very citrusy but not so much so you immediately smell like a certain fruit. it's fresh perfect for summer. reminds me a little of the batucada but without the 'kick' i find in batucada.

Mon Numéro 9 is indeed a typical eau de cologne. It opens on me with tangy lemon and herbal tones. After about 30 minutes, sometimes I can detect a certain sour note like clean sweat, sometimes a laundry-like soapy note becomes prominent. But they all eventually calm down and the fragrance settles into a smooth herbal skin scent with a slightly peppery cedar base. The sillage is soft and the longevity is around 5 hours. Despite a few strange notes popping out on me occasionally, Mon Numéro 9 is overall a pleasant and natural eau de colonge, very unisex and versatile. However, I find it lacks a certain whimsy of other offerings of L'Artisan Parfumeur. Considering its price and availabilty, I'd be hesitant to recommend it over other more affordable and well-constructed eau de cologne on the market.
