Musc Amarante

Opens with crisp and fresh beetroot, and as it dries down, it gets shots of white musk and a nicely nuanced but clean dirt/mud accord. Simple, mass pleasing, unique, and easy to wear. One big hell yeah. personal thoughts - Normally, I have a big yap sesh review, but my fraghead brain just... turns off? I don't know, sounds odd, but it is that simple: beetroot, (clean?) dirt accord, and white musk, but for the majority of it, they're all working in perfect harmony with each other. Didn't get it at first, then I let it bloom under the late July heat of Orlando on vacation, and was blown away. Trust me, wear this under some summer heat (but don't nearly get heatstroke like me, lol). performance - Moderate to intimate projection for the 8.5-9 hours performance I get out of it, but it pushes much harder under the heat. rating - 9.7/10 (Can see moving up, just need to test more) song vibe - Watch Out Now by The Beatnuts

This is literally the best thing ever... I dreamed of this earthy smell, I wanted to smell exactly the way beet leaves in a salad taste... a bit like Geosmin / petrichor, dry earth .. It does also contain some sweetness, more like cooked beets where I would have preferred uncooked ones, but I don’t mind as long as this amazing earthiness is there... I opened my sample, sprayed this on my arm an ordered a full bottle within 5 minutes ... admittedly that could have gone wrong but luckily it didn’t because the earthiness stayed... I smell like a beetroot freshly pulled from the ground... will try layering this with mitti attar geosmin oil to amp the earth up even further but this is allready signature scent material for me

I LOVE the opening! It smells real, raw, humble and joyous at the same time, like a young village girl in her vegetable garden. Seems that I'm all for beets and I had no idea before trying this on. Edit: I previously called the dry down boring, which proved to be as far from the truth as possible, once springtime kicked in. Beautiful, beautiful all the way through! It's such an intelligent spring fragrance - unexpected, vegetal, but with a hint of earthy, mouthwatering sweetness from the beets. Smells clean, and dreamy, and a tad bit like dirt. It's relaxing, but also energizing. So well-balanced that for a village girl who grew up surrounded by vegetable gardens, it hits all the right spots at the sime time.

I love this fragrance and have it in the #1 spot on my wishlist. What I find fascinating is the vastly different views on this - not in a bad way. Some smell dirt and bugs, others get a pleasant earthy accord that compliments the musk. Reminds me of the Santal 33 (Le Labo) debate with pickle juice v. creamy wood. I really appreciate everyone’s candor. I’m learning a lot. For me, when it comes to Musc Amarante, I’m in the pleasant earthy accord camp. I get a beautiful faintly floral and musk petrichor. Just gorgeous.

As a chef, I think this fragrance is fantastic! Its like I went to the garden and pulled a beet out of the ground, walked back to the kitchen, and sliced it open still covered in dirt. I do get bergamot and it plays well with the beet note, just as a citrus would with beet in real life. The dry down brings out the musk but that dirty beet still lingers throughout the life of the fragrance for me. Lasts about 4-5 hrs on me. Maybe about a wingspan in projection. I think a woody note would really just do it for me.

My full bottle came today and I am so happy! Starts with full-on, photorealistic beet with plenty of earth. Over time, the beets fade into something more fruity and floral, but not like any fruit or flower I can recognize. Even at the opening, though, you never feel like you're wearing pickled beets- the musk keeps it from being edible. I love aromatics, but many of them feel too harsh or masculine to me. Musc Amaranth feels fresh and earthy, but also sweet and soft. I'm utterly in love.

If you want a more earthy and soily version of this, try Demeter Beetroot or Earthworm. I like this because it lasts a lot longer than either of those (though it is a lot more expensive) and feels more polished and "formal" than the quirky, dirtier vibe of those Demeter scents, but honestly, if you're on a budget, try one of those two.

Fascinating musk, the beetroot adds this metallic and mineralic zing. Cold dirt from whence it came lifted onto the most chic porcelain plating, a borscht received with a kiss, cozied up with the ambrette seeds.

This is probably the most realistic fragrance in the collection. It truly smells like beets covered in soil fresh out of the ground.

MA reads as freshly cleaned beetroots in liquid form! I can picture the kitchen towel used to wipe off the soil from the beets, and the veggies are in a bowl ready to be pickled or sliced. This is a faithful interpretation of beetroots. I’ve seen some reviews highlight an earth note, but my nose doesn’t detect it. I don’t get petrichor or the smell of fluffy, dark soil. In my humble gardening experience, beets (even when cleaned) have an earthy quality that’s complicated by an unexpected sweetness, similar to a carrot. Smelling this makes me feel closer to a homestead or garden. MA is definitely a photorealistic beetroot. Because of that, MA is not a mass-appealing scent. Few people are going to want to smell like the least loved root vegetable, and I can’t blame folks for that. I think MA could quiet a craving for gardeners and cooks, but I don’t think this will ever debut at Sephora, Ulta or Boots.

Musc Amarante initially caught my eye with its beautiful dusty pink color. At first sniff, I got a strong earthiness, instantly connecting the dots to the color and scent. It was clearly a beetroot fragrance, and I loved it. A musk note was apparent too, as I felt that I couldn’t stop smelling it. On my skin, it ended up smelling like soil. Again, a very earthy fragrance. Although it was not for me, I could appreciate something so photorealistic and unique. Typically, I don’t believe in buying fragrances as gifts because scent preferences are so subjective. However, I think this would be such a cute and thoughtful gift for someone who might enjoy gardening.

This is really nice! Its warmth surprised me. Where Demeter's Beetroot is fresh and wet, Musc Amarante is subtly green-spicy, similar to the taste of nasturtiums or the smell of marigolds. It's the kind of scent that lingers in your nostrils, getting sweeter until you go back for another sniff. It's definitely a unisex scent. I can imagine this being nice on men and women (and anyone in-between). I agree with nastyenka, this beet is not edible; rather, it is fragrant in a soft and lovely way. This reminds me a bit of a Dossier's Woody Sage (a dupe for Wood Sage & Sea Salt) though without the fig.

Very earthy. The beetroot is there, but it's not too strong or unpleasant; it smells fruity rather than vegital. There's definitely ambrette in here, which give it that musky quality. So, it's like this: beetroot + earthy + slight powder + musc...voilà! It's quirky, but pleasant and surprisingly very wearable. Just like 'Iris de Gris', another one in the same line, the performance isn't good on me. Personally, if I pay £150 for a perfume, I expect at least 6-7 hours of longevity, and at least one hour of projection, which did not happen here.

A tender and humble scent with unquestionable beetroot note. I love beetroot and in this iteration, it's a little softer and tidier. It's... beetroots washed and prepped in a the kitchen, rather than beetroots yanked out of the ground with dirt flying around. I think the musk adds a quiet, sentimental quality about it. Because it's a little earthy, I think this would be really nice (and an unexpected choice) for a 20-something guy. The sort of guy who likes Aesop and Malin + Goetz, but isn't necessarily a hypebeast.

I really like this one. I don’t want to smell like it, but I thoroughly enjoy the craft. This smells like a fresh dirt patch in the best way possible with a hint of fresh sweet aroma. It does smell like beet, but a romantic, poetic, cottage-core depiction of beet instead of the grocery store variant. Where you grow your own beets in your cute little garden, harvest it, and all the way into the lovingly made salad on the table.

The beet is so photorealistic I can almost picture it, in all its earthen glory, sitting full-bodied in my hand and dripping its juice down my wrist. I'm not sure about the choice of name, though I do admit that flat-out putting Beet in the name may be too on-the-nose. As a musk lover, this is not musky to me - but instead is a sweet, simple, earthy deep red beet.

Opens with the hyper-realistic beet, freshly picked and sliced. Sweet, tart, and vegetal. Although it's so realistic, I found it to be quite wearable when lightly sprayed. The beet mostly fades away over 2 hours, but is still very faintly detectable on my skin 8 hours later. The rest of the fragrance is a fresh citrus musk - nothing to dislike there. I am a fan!

Smells like pulling beets out of moist soil. The soil scent dominates, but I definitely get the beety vegetable notes. I sampled this before checking the notes for this fragrance, and instantly thought of pulling up beets with my dad in his garden. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea, not a safe blind buy for most, but I really love it.

This smells very similar to diptyques Fleur de peau. However, it’s a little more sharp and vegetal like. Actually, the more I smell it the more it smells like dirt and iron, like beets lol. It doesn’t seem wearable in public, but it’s a nice smell to experience every once in a while.

Starts off smelling like mud, then you get a photorealistic beetroot which I think is super fun and unique. I usually like earthy and food-based scents so I enjoyed the novelty of it. However the beetroot only lasted for less than 2 hours before it faded to an ordinary musk.

Love the earthiness of this. The musk gives it a beautiful complexity and the bergamot enough brightness to be pleasant. I think this one would be perfect for spring.

It is a sharp earthy opening juxtaposed with fluffy musk. I was expecting something earthy and soily but I do not get that.

For some reason I smell suede leather a la Hallucinogenic Pearl by ALoF. Perfectly pleasant and earthy

Dirt by Demeter + beet root ^^

Boiled carrots—and unmistakably so. From the very start this pulls a soft, slightly sweet, but also strangely damp note, like steam rising from a plate of just-cooked roots. The slight sourness that lurks beneath prevents it from feeling comforting, adding a bit of unease to the composition. It's not in any way pungent or aggressive, but just has this humid, stagnant quality, like the air in a kitchen after something has been left sitting out too long. There’s no movement or evolution in here, just a muted warmth that clings to the skin in a way that feels almost limp. Neither offensive nor inviting. Still. Boiled carrots.

There's definitely musk, but the beetroot requires a fair bit of squinting to perceive it - it seems Quentin Bisch decided to chuck in some Cashmeran and call it a day, as I don't get much of the fresh, sharp, loamy aspects that I associate with beetroot. Musc Amarante is pleasant, but very simple in construction and consequently boring to me: it's mostly Cashmeran, some transparent musks, and a hint of earthiness. If you want beetroot, skip this and try Rouge (Comme des Garçons) or Kyoto (Diptyque).

So interesting! It's not going on the wishlist, but it's super interesting. Yes, the beetroot is photorealistic, with some soil clinging to it.

Like dirt and children’s plastic playgrounds. You know that slightly bouncy material they layer playgrounds with? That’s what it reminds me of. Some wood chips get swept over from kids kicking and running all around. Interesting, but a definite pass. Ugh. An hour to two later and it’s much nicer after drying down. But a shame, I cannot tolerate that opening.

Woaah Nellie!!! The opening has a tart fruity sweetness and a warmth like a musk perfume but as a top note (which is strange anyway but stranger, considering what happens next) Anyway this initial smell is mental but it lasts about as long as a super heavy ion or Higgs particle or something? It really is gone almost as quickly a you perceive it. Then comes a really insanely earthy note. Just, just on the cusp of being too much geosmin (or similar) it's certainly what I would consider and overdose. At first it is a beetroot effect but as it wears on, it's a bit much for me. However, it peaks around the 20min mark and settles in to a nice, mineral, earthy, accord. Is it really beetroot though? I often think it's hard to capture the vegetal, carroty, bloody sweetness, because beetroot is earthy but it's not entirely so. I think QB has done a good job at making a series of vegetal, modern, seemingly simple perfumes here. I'm personally not bowled over by this one, it's okay y'know.

There is a strong wave of citrus, carried with a stuffy old car aroma. I am trying to figure out what’s going wrong here straight from the get-go. There is a slight liquor smell...maybe that’s the ambrette. It takes a while for the ambergris to come through, and that definitely rounds it out and makes it more pleasant. The beet and the vetiver come with the ambergris, about 15 minutes in. I am not sure what was so off-putting at first, but, it fades. It was something stale, like morning-after-a-party stale or stuffy, sour airplane smell. It definitely gets better the longer it wears on my skin. After about a half hour, everything congeals and it is no longer discordant. But, there is still a slight something that’s a little too much like....old coffee grinds or compost or old beer.

This is what I imagined rhubarb would smell like before I smelled actual rhubarb. Dark red velvet without being suffocating-ly velvet-texture (powdery?). It’s actually kind of fresh. Juicy/sexy/alluring red without being fruity and/or smothered old lady. Like your deepest, darkest desires being hidden behind a vegetable stand. A have a little decant of Kyoto (diptyque) and I would agree they are comparable. ‘Kyoto’ smells less fresh and more like a high end hair product.

Wow! the beetroot note here is photorealistic! it comes with a bit of the leaves and even some soil!...it is surprisingly pleasant! the musc and citrus notes make the scent wearable... I can appreciate the beauty of this scent, it is almost melancholic, and smells like a wet vegetable garden...I probably would wear this in a rainy day, in the summer. I agree with the person below who said it smells like petrichor. I think a sample is enough for me..at least for now.

Interesting that this claims to be beetroot, to me it is very orris / iris / make up bag style powdery. Fluffed with musk. Very earthy but easily similar to the makeup bag genres, valentino donnas, fleur de peus. Maybe a touch more earthy but not the beetroot I'm so familiar with. Cutting up fresh roots for Barszcz and the like :) Very familiar with the original, realistic beetroot, this to me is more orris.

As some others have noticed, I found this perfume to be much more powdery than realistic beets, and I had them for dinner last night! It's a sweet powdery fragrance that honestly reminds me of what it smells like in Lush. It's pretty strong and a bit muddled for my liking (I opt in for photorealistic scents). It smells yummy but it's not beety at all to me.

Like others have said, the opening is quite harsh SOIL but the dry down is so nice. Musky earthy but not too dirty. But you definitely have to get past the opening and try it on skin, do not trust smelling from the bottle or a test strip. Probably not worth a full bottle IMO but would buy a few decants.

Unfortunately this is mostly just Cashmeran with a fleeting, albeit stunning, earthy fruity top reminiscent of Olympic Orchid's Night Flyer (Original Bat). Brilliant opening, beige plateau thereon out. The profit margin must be insane.

I wish I could smell more beet or citrus and less powder. Edit-- ok I tried this again today and.... I love it? It's not as powdery as the first time I tried it. The beet note is spot-on.
