Oeillet Sauvage

It's been unseasonably warm here in SE England for the last five days or so: the weather is forecast to be cooler and wetter next week, so that's the English summer over and done with. Huzzah. I am wearing Oeillet Sauvage, the third SOTD (and second L'Artisan), this evening; it is far warmer than it was the first time I tested it earlier this year on March 11. I think there may have been snow on the ground that day; it had either just snowed/was snowing/was about to snow - whatever the exact conditions, it was bloody cold and we've had (what amounts to) a heatwave this week. And yes, people are complaining. As predicted. Anyway, the point I wanted to make in my usual rambling fashion (routinely adopted once I've worked my way through a bottle of cava on top of the prescribed opiate painkillers I take to enable me to move and function in any vaguely useful manner) is that the predominant note in Oeillet Sauvage this evening is LILY. Not just one lily, but a large bouquet of white lilies, in glorious full bloom. Carnations are very shy this evening and are only just starting to peep out and spice up the perfume an hour or so after spraying. I am not complaining; I love the smell of fresh lilies (and OS is a hyper-realistic floral perfume). So - in cooler weather, expect OS to be a quieter and more discreet (but spicier) beast than it is when the temperature is higher. It's a bit like having two perfumes for the price of one. Sillage is greater when it's warm, too - but still unlikely to offend anyone, as it's such a subtle perfume. My husband could smell me from over a meter away. Highly recommended (again). Hic. x

I bought this (blind - again!) on the basis of the notes, the reviews and my near 100% success rate with L'Artisan perfumes; most I love, some I like - and so far only two haven't worked for me (Skin on Skin - the leather note was too much for me, leaving me feeling almost queasy, and Caligna which has an odd oily quality to it). Oeillet Sauvage is first and foremost a gloriously realistic interpretation of carnations on my skin. Lilies back up the carnations, both bringing a slightly powdery quality to the fragrance. My nose isn't acute enough to pick up on all the other notes, but I can definitely sense a slight spiciness, possibly from the pepper, although carnations smell spicy to me as well. This really is a delicate, masterfully blended beauty. I am looking forward to wearing this in the spring and early summer as I think this is probably when it will shine the most. Sillage is close to the skin and I suspect longevity won't be good, but I don't care - this is an ethereal beauty, highly recommended for lovers of delicate floral perfumes.

This spring I bought some light pink carnations for my balcony and fell in love with their scent instantly. So I searched for a perfume with this note. Most are either pretty old-fashioned or very spicy. Oeillet Sauvage is neither. Granted it doesn‘t smell exactly like blooming carnations, it‘s more like a creamy floral bouquet, especially in the opening I get more lily and ylang-ylang than carnation. It smells more floral than the real flower does. But it doesn‘t matter, this still captures the feeling of those pretty pink blossoms, and as it dries down, the slightly sweet, warm spiciness of carnation unfolds and a hint of vanilla rounds everything out. Oeillet Sauvage smells very romantic to me, like pastel colors in scent form. And it‘s unlike anything else. I love how they used a unique combination of floral notes and made just as creamy and feminine as white florals are, but completely different from those. My absolute favorite of all carnations I have tested so far, I need a bottle soon.

I got my hands on this perfume after a recommendation by the member Objections! First of all, this perfume is gorgeous. Personally, I find the carnations to be the floral winner in this one, closely followed by the lilies. As several people have already stated, it seriously smells like a florist boutique. Fresh yet creamy, beautiful and sweet. To me this smells like well-being, as if a mental state had a scent. Similarly to when I clean my apartment and buy flowers that stand in vases in every room. It’s so relaxing! Personally, I don’t pick up on any smokiness in this one, just a succulent combination of lilies, carnations, vanilla and an «oomph» provided by some pepper.

Pretty, delicate and feminine. Realistic bouquet of lilies and carnations in full bloom, slightly waxy and creamy but sheer and elegant. There's a smidge of soapiness but in a good way, more fresh soapy not cloyingly old fashioned if that makes sense. I also get a distant tropical echo and I am reminded of something I've smelled in the past. Could it be Guerlain's Terracota Voile d'Ete 1999?(very different from recent Terracota editions btw) with its strong carnation, ylang, lily and vanilla. Anyway, it's beautiful!!It was a blind buy for me but I'm so beyond happy with my purchase. The only down side is that I wish it lasted a little longer.
