L'Eau

On a chilly day in March 96 my two bffs and I headed to the opening of the new improved Plaza at the King of Prussia mall. A beautiful Nordstrom had been added on, in addition to posh, new shops. We went to MAC (Spice liner!), Borghese, bought Dooney and Bourke bags, checked out Hard Candy Sky nail polish and Gap's four new scents (I'm sure you can name them), and then headed upstairs to Laura Ashley. My friends planned to purchase sheets and white poplin nightgowns there. My mom, a big Laura Ashley fan, had a navy corduroy, calf length dress she wore from 1989, red print. It wasn't exactly my style in those days, mine being a bewildered mix of hippy flower child and wanna be club kid. However I couldn't help waltzing over to the perfumes and start sniffing. They all smelled wonderful, but L'eau was the one that "caught my nose". My friend Missy (a total fraghead, her mom worked for Estee Lauder and even I was a benefactor in the goods) announced she was getting "La-ewe" and so I bought it as well. Beautiful, classic bottle, just what I love to this day. A smooth, circuler hunter green box to encase that lovely bottle. L'eau is not sweet, not a bit. It's what I'd classify as a Chypre, to my nose anyway. Lots of oakmoss and yes, a bit bitter. Unique. I can remember the petigrain and rosemary, the lavender too. An appropriate office fragrance for sure, daytime definitely. I'd be up for another bottle in the future, it's a shame Laura Ashley seems to have done away with the fragrance line. They were really nice, evocative of an English garden.

This perfume smells GOOD after you let it sit. It's herbal, less so flowery (it kinda reminds me of black licorice, personally I don't like black licorice but I like this) and I found it gave me a small headache after I kept sniffing my wrists.. (probably my fault lol). as it dried down, I don't know what I'm smelling, still somewhat floral and smooth... but I'm no perfume expert so idk how to explain it in further detail. What I can say though is that it gives me an odd sense of nostalgia. I have no idea where or when, but I feel like I've smelt it before in my childhood. its soooo clean!!! I love rosemary, I love fresh scents, but I'm not sure I got that much orange from it.. also wheres that lemon? nowhere I can find. ughhh still love I wish I had more. I only have a 0.17 oz one so I'm gonna have to be super stingy with my usage (hate)

I bought this mini on a whim. What a pretty little spring gem this is. The aromatic aspects of the top notes are there but they are not overpowering. You will get rosemary, lemon, orange and petigrain but the real star of the show w/ this perfume is the lily of the valley and the carnation. So fresh, and, perfect for spring. Why do they discontinue fragrances like this? This is spring green perfume done right. This is more on the feminine side but I can see a man who loves florals wearing this. The oakmoss dry down is fabulous. A classic green floral/chypre perfume. Carnation and lily of the valley do battle to win your heart. Lovely.

I bought one of the minis on Ebay and went back and bought a couple of more. Herbally with citrus high notes and rosemary. Then the flowers kick in with lavendar, carnation and lily of the valley. More herbal than floral. And some complexity at the base with oak moss and sandalwood. Reminds me of a Midsummer's Night Dream with wood nymphs. A quiet walk in the woods with surprises here and there. I am a sucker for citrus, oakmoss and sandalwood, so nothing to disappoint me here.

This Beauty is Potent! Resembles the smell of dry apricots- wonderful! Haven't smelled anything like it....

A nice, light, fresh inoffensive fragrance, not sweet, a little bit bitter because of the citrus note. It lasts about 6 hours on my skin. And it suits for spring and summer best at least for my nose.
