Laura Biagiotti

I’ve just recieved 2 small bottles of this: 10 and 15ml, both pure parfum! The 10ml with spray, the 15ml like the picture on top of this page. Both of them hardly used. Each time I have an oldie with real civet I can’t wait to test it. The civet brings out the scent so much deeper, richer and stronger. And I must admit: I love it. I rate it as a classy, chique scent from the 80-ies and 90-ies.

I would call it a chypre light - wonderful slightly bitter chypre with a touch of natural fruit. It's just beautiful - so uplifting and girly and elegant all at the same time.

opening was very in your face - green, strong aldehydes & oakmoss.. totally not me. 1/2 hour later it's much better, the begining notes have really faded and now the fruits are out in force, raspberry & peach with jasmine. i really enjoy this phase.. At 2 hours its just a very faint skin scent =(

I don't remember when I acquired my sample of this vintage Laura Biagiotti, but it was a long time ago - maybe even several years. The reason it took me so long to get around to testing it is my slight apprehension about vintage scents in general. First of all, I have the same kind of relation with them as I do with the majority of modern designer scents: I have nothing against them and in fact I like many of them, but in a kind of distant way, because deep down I think they all kind of smell the same and I personally don't feel very much at home in them. Those designer scents all smell like different variations of luxury shampoo, and vintages all smell like "perfume" to me, probably because they are closer to the kind of scents I learned to associate with "perfume" as a child in the late eighties/early nineties than what's available now. On top of this, I'm also wary of getting over my prejudices and possibly developing an interest for vintages: there's so much to explore in contemporary perfumery alone, I don't want to open another and even more time-consuming can of worms... All that being said, I do like Laura Biagiotti quite a lot. It definitely has that vintage vibe that I find so nostalgic, but I also think I like it for itself. The opening especially is great: in this phase, it's focused on the loveliest hyacinth note, so natural and realistic and wonderfully bitter. I have to admit it's difficult to imagine this accord in today's mainstream... And projection and longevity are impeccable as well, although I like it less as it dries down and that spectacular hyacinth fades away to be replaced by a more typical "vintage" drydown. I don't know if I'm glad that I tested this - it made me realize I am closing my eyes to a whole world of great scents ignoring the vintage category as I am, but the thought of exploring that world still exhausts me, so I'm not going to change my ways. I won't wait as long to sample another vintage scent if one happens to find its way to me, though.

So pretty, feminine and light. Great for day wear or a casual evening out. Gives you that lighthearted, happy go lucky feeling with a certain chypre sophistication inherent. Blind buy but would buy again for the 'glammy. lady' pick-me-up feeling. Could be stronger mind you but I do go for power-houses in general. Nice change though.
