Jasmin Majorelle

Jasmine Majorelle typifies summer jouissance for me. The jasmine is a breeze rather than a dense cloud, with the blooms feeling more adjacent, indoles subtle and stimulating (warning: a teensy bit pissy to certain noses), the June sun beaming down on the vines and heating up the petals. The lemon and herbal garnish adds an element of "eau fraiche," which would make sense given that this was originally released in 1981, a time when 'les eaux' were still all the rage. If we are to assume these are the original compositions of Le Jardin Retrouve founder Yuri Gutsatz, required adjustments notwithstanding, then there is certainly an aura to his work that shows no shyness when it comes to raw, unrestrained naturalism. In the heart, there is a creaminess that suggests ylang, though the sweet humidity is absent: it's a refreshment rather than a muggy floral. These flowers, the jasmine, ylang, et al, are featured in a different light, a lens that cuts through the density, almost like a crystal prism that reveals tints of presence and lightness. The pith of Jasmine Majorelle is in this clarity, which may make it a bit of a riddle for those used to jasmines like SL A La Nuit or Sarrasins. How can jasmine be so sheer, yet seem so palpable? I think the summer heat would best flatter it, like on a 90 degree day as we are having today, where the moisture of one's own perspiration enhances it, and nearly makes it fully three dimensional in one's immediate surroundings.

I am a jasmine lover, but I have a hard time finding jasmine fragrances I like - most of them are too cloying, indolic, musky or synthetic. This, however, is one of my all-time favorites. The coriander and lemon offer the perfect foil to the flower's heady sweetness and keep everything feeling light and fresh. I do get some indoles, but in this case they give the impression of standing next to a jasmine bush in full bloom - which at any given moment is almost certainly where I'd rather be...

I live in a place where jasmine grows in abundance in almost everyone’s garden. When you take an evening walk, especially after an afternoon rain has stopped, jasmine scent in the air is irresistible, intense but also fresh. There is nothing quite like it, but this perfume smells almost exactly like it. Unfortunately, it only lasts about an hour on my skin, but I love the smell so much that I don’t care.

This is a delightful fragrance that gives jasmine a leading role. Not as heady or cloying as you might expect, this is actually a very pure, sunny fragrance that makes me think of 1970s shampoo adverts with daisies and cheesecloth and sunshine. Immensely uplifting and great staying power.

Opens with an aromatic sage and hints of a peppery coriander. The heart quickly introduces an indolic jasmine with a funk to it that I think works to give the scent character. It’s slightly heady but paired with a creamy ylang ylang it’s really enjoyable. The neroli here is a tad bit soapy but the dry down strays away from that and is ultimately a buttery iris, light musks, with remnants of a mild jasmine.

this opens with an slightly indolic jasmine, ylang ylang and a bit of lemon, then there is an herbal quality from the sage. it dries down to a slightly herbal and green jasmine. it's refreshing and not sweet, and therefore could be good for warmer weather when other florals might be too sweet or cloying.

Indolic, funky, airy jasmine... I LOVE IT- it's so photorealistic to me that it is transporting me to the jasmine bushes in my grandma's garden... really all you can ask for in a perfume

This is less about the jasmine. Not a solifloral. This is balsamic/herbal bordering on a chypre. It smells like a vintage chypre with sage, marigold and a hint of jasmine though it's not dirty or musky. In the final drydown hours later it is all jasmine but not sweet or headache inducing. I don't know where people are voting for ylang. It doesn't have that sweetness. This is herbal/balsamic then jasmine, not ylang.

Feel like the odd one out amongst these reviews. Smelled to me like something at my childhood dentist office. Definitely airy, but clinical - probably something with the coriander really coming through to my nose. Another nose told me it smelled exactly like dog pee to her. Maybe my sample was a dud.

Le Jardin Retrouve, Jasmin (Vintage) Here is the review for vintage splash bottles (https://www.vintage.lejardinretrouve.com) under name "Jasmin". All fragrance from this brand now are rebranded and name change. Original name of "Jasmin Majorelle" is Jasmin, I think it kind of Maison restoration. Similar to Le Gailon and Oriza L. Legrand. Le Jardin Retrouve, Jasmin is very beautiful eau de cologne kind of situation. Similar to old "Santa Maria Novella" but his style (Yuri Gutsatz) ending with more floral end. Not the powdery sweet ambery benzonin base. It is beautiful, how big fat ylang-ylang contains in the bottle. It is one of best Ylang-Ylang. In fragrance I have applied. It stays along with Jasmin in this, not milky powdery. It Fresh and Green. Naturally sweet Jasmin. The rest component is push to be natural floral edge of fragrance. I think it kind of early solifores situation, I think that is so niche back then. But is not really differs from the cologne from similar era, all the Santa Maria Novella. You can't go wrong if you like natural ingredients. I can assure you vintage Le Jardin Retrouve put fine ingredients in the bottle.

Indolic and green jasmine. Smell like a literal garden more than a perfume. I can almost something slightly animalic in there, on opening (it's gone on drydown) ? Reminds me the funkiness in Une fleur de cassis by FM just a little bit. Smell very natural, like if you rubbed yourself with flowers :)

I don't really get a true jasmine out of this, but it is a nice lemony jasmine blend with earthy orris butter. No indole, but still a lush floral, it reads more Southern Magnolia tree to me than otherwise. There is pronounced Ylang Ylang in here though, and I don't love Ylang Ylang.
