Aldehyde 44 Dallas

Aldehyde 44 is the epitome of a “Clean Girl” scent (although I’d personally say that it’s unisex), and I suspect that if it had a lower price point and ease of purchase, it would have a really big following of devoted fans. It opens very bright and sparkling and sweet... almost like a Ramune soda. Then there’s a clean and fresh creamy musk that blends in with white and yellow florals in the background. Once it dries down and warms up to your skin, It’s got a fresh linen vibe to it but is more complex than just a fresh laundry fragrance. Soapy for sure... also has a vanilla note that is similar to Vanille 44, hanging out in the middle. It’s kind of a conundrum to my nose... bright and sharp yet smooth and soft. It does come across sort of synthetic, but I really like it in that regard, - it’s comforting like freshly washed sheets. Projects moderately and has good longevity... 6-8 hours. I’d say that if you like Another 13 or Musc 25 you may enjoy this fragrance as well. Edit: This bottle ended up becoming my city exclusive purchase of the year. I really love it and am getting A LOT of compliments on it. To me it is one of the city exclusive fragrances that is worth buying because it’s an easy reach signature scent for any time of the year. It has such a clean, vibrant, and uplifting aura to it. It’s also quite unique for being a fresh linen type of fragrance. Also I feel like a lot of people would consider this fragrance feminine because of the floral notes in it, however, I’m squarely in the unisex camp on this one... it’s a really pleasant fragrance for anyone to wear, especially when it dries down.

It smells like fancy soap in the best of ways. A very clean scent! I wore Chanel No. 5 for years, but I like this better. The white florals are there, but the soapy aldehyde being the star makes this a more modern take on classic aldehydes. This is a fresh, crisp, and bright aldehyde and not the powdery eau de Mrs Havishram consistent with Chanel dna. Think MFK 724 kinda “clean”brightness and not old money attic dust. I say this as someone who loves Chanel’s iconic powder notes, but appreciates fresh soapy scents without the powder accord, as well. Next September I’m buying the full size. I bought it in my annual August sample haul, but decided on Bigarade and Coriandre as my full sized city exclusives last year. This year I’m getting this and Gaiac 10. I truly do love this and there’s nothing like it! Notice that all the suggestions for similar scents are either 50/50 or *mostly* disagrees? There’s nothing like it!

This fragrance opens very aldehydic, classic and “feminine,” reminiscent of something like Chanel No. 5. Very quickly, however, it dries down into a warm, cozy blend of vanilla, florals, and clean comforting notes. The opening feels traditionally feminine and ‘cool aldehydic’, but the dry down is clearly unisex and incredibly warm and comforting. It wraps you in a soothing, cozy aura, perfectly capturing what they call “cowboys laundry.” A fragrance that feels both familiar and unexpectedly charming. Longevity and sillage are incredible: this scent is truly long lasting and leaves a noticeable, comforting trail.

Luckyscent has samples of all of the fragrances limited to certain cities - and will have full bottles for the month of November! Tried this and love it! It is a lovely transparent floral. Just the right amount of floral and sweetness, not cloyingly so. Soft drydown, but not disappointing, typical and vanillic/powdery. But unfortunately, it doesn't last very long. Sigh! I don't know if I would buy it because of that. Update: 11/11/11 Good lord, it's expensive! After wearing the sample a few more times, I find that it does last a little longer than I thought. Hhmmmm, really want this!!

This is very much a modern take on something like White Linen from Estée Lauder. I get: gorgeous sparkling aldehydes, starched white linen, that mysterious sort of unplaceable soft-chlorinated grey ambrette musk, subdued, abstract impressions of non-specific summertime flowers, a tiny bit of vanilla. Aldehyde 44 is understated, dry, airy, bright, clean. Performance seems very, very good. Agonizing and rolling around in grief right now!!! Where the heck was I when Le Labo was discontinuing this frag last year?!?! Rhetorical yes, but very agonizing to recall...... Does ANYONE IUT THERE STILL have a genuine bottle (NOT DECANT)??? Yup.........., I'm KICKING MYSELF BIG TIME right now!!! I wish I had known this last year...... Now If I COULD only FIND someone with a bottle, I'd pay BIG bucks for it!!!

Elegant, modern, somewhat cold, somewhat abstract. Yann Vasnier is a fan of vintage Chanels and he creatively took their spirit into Aldehyde 44. At the time when Chanel lost its soul, this is the place to go. Wears beautifully and commands compliments while keeping others at a distance but intrigued. There's enough versatility in it not to be tiring over many days of repeated wear.

chanel no 5 if it was actually good 🤷 no but srsly this is PUSSYYYYY. true fresh laundry detergent yet also kinda metallic and uncanny valley excellence in a bottle OUUGHGHG i need to douse myself in this every single day (then again in NO universe should this go for as much as it does like over $1k for a full bottle is insane)

Soft but with a range. Mostly musky and powdery with a sweetness. I don’t get any aldehyde at least in the traditional sense. Reminds me of dryer sheets as it also has a clean airy quality or clean white sheets. Very comforting and cozy but the price is a bit shocking

Right away you get a hit of citrus, which is nice, but it is not so much of a wow factor as I'd like. Like most people say, the price does not justify the scent, or visa versa. It is bright yet subtle. Very work friendly. Not off-putting. Great as a gift!

Smells amazing. One of the best aldehyde centered fragrances I have ever gotten my nose on. Sweet aldehydic bliss, and the dry down is to die for with its woody green tuberose. Scrumptious! Absolutely scrumptious!

Aldehyde 44 is a really pleasant surprise. Initially this smelled like heightened clean skin and nothing more, but in the dry down it changed completely and was very reminiscent of Laura Biagiotti's Venezia.

smells just like original ramune to me - clean, fizzy, citrusy, airy. it smells like something you could wear on a crisp spring morning while sipping on a nice iced drink. so nice, unique, and interesting

i absolutely LOVE this scent but i don’t think i’d want to smell like this. it smells like super high quality cleaning products and ivory soap. very clean and fresh, but i wouldn’t ever wear this.

A squeaky clean white laundry musk scent. It makes you smell like freshly showered with the most luxurious soap! It's not as floral as No.22, rather 'blue' woody amber and vanilla are accentuated.

Update! Yippie Ki Yay!!! I pulled it off and I got a brand new 100ml bottle..... Now if only that could be true of Another 13!!! Sigh....

Open a can of sarsaparilla and you get A44.

strangely enough, considering the name of this fragrance, the aldehydes do not take center stage. those of you with a distaste for screechy harshness take note, the aldehydes are subdued, perhaps vanquished, here. they vaguely hover around all the other components. the most prominent note by far is the vanilla, followed by the musk and ambrette, the woods and then the florals. i don't enjoy big vanilla. fortunately it's not overly sweet or foody, more vanillin, but it's there for the whole duration. i have read a few comparisons to SL's la myrrhe. i kind of sort of get that, but, in addition to the vanilla, there are more differences (significant differences) than there are similarities. la myrrhe is dark, heavy, medicinal, syrupy, dripping with bitter almond and infused with either castoreum or something else that creates the same effect. 44 shares none of these qualities. if anything, it is a distant, somewhat androgynous relation to broadway night. if you took 44's vanilla down a notch and put it in the background, turned up the aldehydes and injected a healthy dose of maurice roucel's violet (a la l'insolence), you would have something strangely akin to the neon femininity of broadway night (which, by the way, in my opinion, is No. 5 on steroids and much better without the peach and ylang-ylang). all in all, i have to say that aldehyde 44 is kind of a weird one. that may sound negative, but i don't mean it to. i think the "weirdness" is what won me over after being on the fence about this perfume longer than usual for me. oddly compelling. the sillage is definitely present, and the longevity is excellent. starts smelling even better (and closer to broadway night) at around the 6 or 7 hour mark. just to add another idiosyncratic musing...i've been wearing 44 more frequently than some others in my collection. people often describe aldehydes as "fizzy". for me the word "fluffy" is more what comes to mind with this. a yellow flowers cotton ball.

Yes, this smells like soap. But that’s merely the overall impression, and all Le Labo fragrances come to life in the details—which is ironic for a house often called “minimalist.” Nasomatto’s Fantomas comes to mind as a comparison. Not that Aldehyde 44 smells nearly as bizarre and astringent as Fantomas, but both are unabashedly synthetic. They don’t try to be anything else, and that is their strength. This sets them apart from the many many fragrances that try to smell natural but end up smelling synthetic. The images that come to mind when smelling this fragrance are: running through sprinklers on a hot summer day, clean fluffy towels, the heat of a newly printed piece of paper, the girl you went to school who you resented for her spoiled upbringing but simultaneously wanted to be like, a tank top and athletic shorts, facial serums, natural blonde hair, tennis, steam, a bedroom so tidy you’re afraid to touch anything, French tips, the palest of pinks, the packaging of an Apple product.

Man, Le Labo makes some strange and wonderful fragrances! Several people have compared Aldehyde 44 to Chanel No. 5, but they are distinctly different. No. 5 is much more feminine and the Ylang and Rose make it very apparent. 44 is dryer, muskier and not so feminine. Even though it contains those happy, bright, wedding flowers, it doesn't come off that way at all. It's quite strange, because it's as if those happy wedding flowers have wilted and are covered with dust, in a cold dark room. What Aldehyde 44 really smells like to me, is a funeral home. Musty & dusty, with some dry wood, old flowers and the faint aroma of incense. I imagine since this fragrance was made for Dallas, funerary flowers was not what they were going for? However, if you are dressed up as a Zombie for Halloween or Costume Ball, or you want a floral fragrance that will hold up in cold weather, this might work? I think it's great, precisely because it is so unique and weird!

I was super excited to finally get my nose on this one. Opens bright and fizzy (Aldeydes) and immediately launches into soft florals and powder. It's got a strong baby powder scent right from jump street. Could use less narcissus IMO. Drydown is soapy clean goodness. Feminine leaning mid, but dries down soapy unisex. These are the kind of frags I like to wear around my house and not really outside. They're just relaxing and help me decompress, unwind and sleep good 💤. Overall a really nice scent in the vein of Chanel No 5, pikovaka dama, etc. However, on my skin the drydown reminds me of an ultra powerful and concentrated Kiels Original Musk. Like an expensive extrait version of that. Great scent if you love soapy aldeydes but I think Santa Maria Novella Melograno is slightly better on my skin. Scent 9/10 Performance 7.5/10

Like the lather from an entire bar of crisp, white soap, overflowing the walls of a porcelain bathtub that is situated in the middle of a breezy summer field. The aldehydes unquestionably dominate - airy and vigorous - leading elegantly into crisp, feminine florals. Then, as Aldehyde 44 dries down, the ambrette note comes to the fore, and provides just the right amount of sweet, sensual warmth to counterbalance the cool blast of the aldehydes somewhat — like a cashmere sweater on an invigorating hot air balloon ride, or sitting on a breezy, high-altitude hillside letting a fragment of a Werther's candy melt on your tongue.

Bitter tonic and laundry detergent, burning rubber and shit, sweet baby powder, and sheer musk. I find this really complex for the first hour-or-so of wear, but the dry down is a pretty standard, squeaky-clean, bittersweet musk. I bought a sample of this when I went to New York with my father. I didn’t particularly like New York, but I did enjoy the trip, and this scent reminds me of that. This is part of their city exclusives line, and thought its supposed to be the scent of Dallas, I think it’s a good fit for New York. I would buy a full bottle for the sentimental value if it wasn’t so expensive.

Saw that this was being discontinued, so I decided to buy a sample from the Le Labo web site. My expectations were high after being very impressed by Santal 33 and Vetiver 46. This one didn't make quite the same impression. Maybe because this is more toward the feminine side of unisex to me. Or maybe because of the sharpness of the opening notes. But it dries down to a slightly floral, slightly vanilla vibe which is pleasant enough. Worthy of a sample, but not a full bottle.

A very clean and incredibly sweet white musk, almost like a fat bar of regular dove soap, but make it ✨pink✨. It does remind me a bit of sweet, nice, girly pink childrens’ toothpaste. It smells like a light pink pastel colour in a way? Or maybe a warm bubble bath in the most lush way and then being wrapped in a warm clean towel. With that said, it is actually kinda grown up, and it melts beautifully into the skin and would suit any age as a clean soapy scent.

You want to smell like soap, but you wanna pay 450? well...Le Labo made something for you. Just stay away from this and get a Chanel if you want aldehydes done right, and not...whatever this soapy vanillic mess is. ...after a few hours, all i get is some faint musk and the exact woody vanilla note from Vanille 44. Unimpressive creation.

Aldehyde 44 Le Labo is distinctive and smells powdery on me. It smells rich and expensive. However, I would prefer this on Le Boyfriend than on myself. Just the same, there's something wistful about its fleeting availability. I'm sad I am forced to make a decision to buy a FB by March 31st, or risk never having one in my wardrobe.

Checked this one out in-store. I can appreciate the brand’s minimalist “laboratory” vibe and the quality of the blends are noticeable - but DAMN these prices! The fragrances, this one included, don’t evoke anything more than an “oh ok” from me. Who is actually paying $300 for these? Why?

soft, slightly powdery, and sweet in a delicate way , you get some of that vanilla and tuberose in the dry down but all i smelt in the opening was straighr aldehyde which i have no problem with. Overall its a great fragrance just wish it lasted longer

I would not pay $300, but max $250, and you know why? cause i found out all Le Labos are extrait de parfum concentration, every single one lasted 12+ hours on my skin, and i tried the whole line, including the City Exclusives...

Smells like a clean, fizzy, bubbly and expensive soap. Amazing perfume if you want to smell fresh and is perfect for office settings. Samples are $16 CAD each. Longevity: 7/10

Had to try this since it’s the DFW scent, opens very aldehydic sweet and softens to a powdery musk fairly quickly, smells like a dish soap or detergent it’s a minimal smell that stays close to your ski. It isn’t very impressive for the Le Labo Exclusive price tag it carries just has something in it left to desire imo.

Aldehydic white floral and HEAVY musk. Le Labo does have a good aldehyde scent in the room spray, Ambroxide 17; this one leans too floral and cosmone for my taste; it's almost too chemical-leaning. I don't like it, but I don't hate it. It reminds me of Lazy Sunday Morning by Maison Margiela.

Yeah I like it it’s ok. Nothing spectacular. Wearing in The dead heat of summer in July. It’s fine smells fine.

A mechanical flower? Not sure I have any good direct comparisons for this one. Labo definitely gets five stars for creativity. One of the more unusual scents I’ve sampled lately - however, it’s put together very well. I had a larger sample of this and was able to wear it several times. What stands out to me most are the aldehydes and flowers. They are really the heart of the fragrance and while some of the rest of the notes are still there, they are rather light and offer only supporting roles. Again, I have no real comparison - a cartoonish, mechanical flower is the only thing I can think of. Or flowers in a new car. I don’t know - something like that. Well, summing up, again, I think this is highly creative, so I appreciate the work put into this. Is this fragrance just right for some people? I have no doubt. For me, not so much. It’s not my cup of tea (which is fine with me because I’m not sure this is sold anymore). This 'may' be a tad feminine - it's one of those times I wish this site had a rating bar where you could offer your own sugggestion as to femininity/masculinity. However, the note quality, longevity and sillage are all very classy.

Finally I got around to trying this. I had been thinking of just blind buying because I love aldehydes and I usually love Yann Vasnier's work so no brainer? Then I read the reviews and knew that something is wrong and that was confirmed now. The opening is alright - and I believe that is what most reviewers here are talking about who mention stuff like No 5. The dry down is harsh and industrial. The scent is clean but grating, and it has a note of creosot (that someone here already mentioned) in the base. Masculine leaning. Good lasting power.

Naurrrrrr I'm sorry Le Labo this ain't it... I do appreciate a good powdery and soapy note but this went too far into the baby powder/laundry detergent category. I find it a bit nauseating and I really don't get any of the aldehydes that I was hoping for:(

Man...I was excited for this bc aldehyde-ambrette-neroli-musk combo that many of my faves have...thank god I got a sample because this was sadly a horrific urinal cake scent. The first perfume I could truly describe as such...bummer

I was hoping for a fizzy, bright aldehyde. Instead I got a powdery musk. Nothing bright, young or happy. I wouldn’t even describe it as a clean scent. Total disappointment and definitely on the female side.

just smells like aldelhydes. if u don't know what that is- think chanel no. 5: kind of lemon-y, cleaning fluid, soap. i get white florals as well. not for me and certainly not worth the pricetag.

Smells vintage..... Chanel #5 stripped down to only my the musk. Like sticking your nose in a box of powdered detergent. Not for me. But nice for the right woman.

This smells really strongly of laundry detergent. Artificial and overpowering. I didn't try it on my skin because I really didn't enjoy it on paper.

I did not find anything remotely attractive about this fragrance.

I’m going to be brief. Just buy Safeguard soap and lather yourself with it.

I got this one as a gift for my grandmother. After we tried quite a lot of scents (Including chanel No.5 inside of a Macy's) I showed her the city exclusive collection and ordered a sample of this. It was by far her favorite, and she now has a full bottle just given for christmas that she adores. It will likely become her signature scent. I don't get the hate on this one. In the store, Chanel No.5 smelled like a urinal cake to me. It had an acrid, deeply artificial and biting scent to it that I just detested and she wasn't a fan of either. This fragrance however, is really the opposite. It's like if Chanel No.5 were made only out of the highest quality ingredients instead of the stinging nonsense it is now. She even tried a sample of tubereuse, Le Labo's New York fragrance which was allegedly inspired by laundromats, and this one smelled fresher and more clean to both of us. Opener is very fresh and clean. You get some of the aldehydes but without the cloying artificiality of designer fragrances. There's a bit of subdued sweetness which I think is probably coming from the narcissus sitting atop a complex but extremely fresh-smelling bed of white florals. I smell tuberose, jasmine, neroli (but it's very subdued and beautiful). The base is a slightly creamy but mostly powdery bed of musks and petitgrain that smells like fresh laundry. Ambrette and vanilla dance in the background, but it's definitely not a gourmand. She wanted something that was heavy on the white florals and smelled very fresh and clean, and this was her perfect fragrance. Projection is really good. When my grandma first tried it she sprayed it twice on her wrists and the whole room could smell her. I actually love the scent, it's extremely versatile. Definitely leans feminine in my mind because I can't really see a straight man wearing this. But if you're in the mood for an extremely good, unique, white floral that smells like the freshest laundry you've ever gotten, grab this one.

After hearing the news of Aldehyde 44's dicontinuation, I felt compelled to wear the sample I have today. The first time I smelled A44 was in Nolita at the Le Labo boutique. The employee could tell I love perfume and decided to "treat" me to a peek at a city-exclusive. It was on a blotter and unlike anything I had smelled previously. Very effervescent, and clean, sparkling. A new sensation for me. Today i was greeted with the same bubbly personality. The fizz fades, like a cola left out on the counter, but the scent remains. It's not that A44 developed so much, but surprised me with bursts of individual notes. there was the yellow floral of Narcissus, Clean musks and aldehydes, and the occasional "hello" from something I associate with cheap lily scents. This last note would normally bother me, but the surprise and memory had me smiling. I will cherish this sample. I wish they had a 15ml available for purchase in this last moth, because I don't see it as full-bottle worthy. Maybe they'd make an exception?

I can't describe this scent but I want it! Glad i live in Dallas! Update: I was able to order large decant of this and I'm honestly going to need more! This stuff is completely addictive to me. I've never loved a freshie the way I love this one. I know it's not truly a freshie , it's a musk, however there has got to be citrus in this , even though the notes don't list it. It's very potent and long lasting. This is an EXCELLENT every day scent. To me the top notes are definitely the musk and neroli, and CITRUS, doesn't matter what they say. It dries down to a beautiful vanilla amber. Though the name suggests ALDEHYDE, it's very low key , which I love, it kinda just surrounds all of the other notes in the background. It is not FRONT AND CENTER. Love love this! FB WORTHY!

I am a new found convert to the world of aldehydic scents. Initially this is very fizzy and strong, almost chemical. Like shoving ur nose into a bottle of Persil detergent. But then after ten minutes or so, it shifts into what someone else mentioned as flat cola. I grew up in a Caribbean home, its cola champagne mixed with the most expensive chic clean cotton body lotion. It’s warm like skin on a hot day but not sweaty like Musc 25 which is usually my preferred fave. I’m really falling in love with this scent and might have to pull the trigger. This is reminding me of my sisters cool, older friends who always looked so put together but never too cool for some comforting hugs and the most sincere advice.

I am a DFW girl transplanted to Australia so when I saw Le Labo’s City Exclusives online, I blind bought this one. And I absolutely love it! This fragrance pays tribute to Dallas beautifully and feels like such a perfect fit for me. I only bought the 15ml last year because damn, it’s expensive! I thought about forgoing my perfume buys for awhile in the lead up to the following year when the City Exclusives event is on again and splurging on the 100ml bottle. But then I came across Penhaligon’s The Favourite and noticed the similarity so for the moment I’m content wearing that one, reserving my precious tiny 15ml bottle of Aldehyde 44 for when nothing else will do.

As a lover of Chanel no 5 and no 22, it's easy for me to love this one. Starts out with fizzy champagne bubbles, a tad soapy, the floral bouquet emerges, and a hint of vanilla grounds it and gives it some warmth. I get the no 5 connection but it does smell much more like an ethereal, sheerer, less complex version of no 22 (which I own) in a side-by-side comparison . If someone walked by me wearing this, I would probably think they were wearing no 22. Don't think I need both, but if I did own this, I'd probably wear it more than no 22 since it's lighter and more discrete= better for work. But I don't necessarily like it more.
