Tubereuse 40 New York

Not much to say on thus one yet, because I just obtained an official 1.5ml sample for a cool $12 from my stellar contact Isaac in their NYC locale..... I don't have anything in depth to share right now, but what I can say is that there are three frags at Le Labo that seem to be somewhat confused, mislabelled or misrepresented... Some of you may know what I'm getting at already......?!?! If not, lemme spell it out: Get your nose on Neroli 36, Fleur D'Oranger 27 & Tubereuse 40.... For some strange reason, the main ingredients which the scents are supposed to be named for are actually more prominent in the other fragrance?!?! Confusing?!?! Tubereuse 40 could/should be more aptly titled: "NEROLI 36............, etc"! In addition, although called "Neroli 36", the fragrance actually carries a good concentration of an ingredient called "Calone"- it's very very interesting and I recommend you look it up please..... It gives the scent a rather fresh, seashore vibe the radiates from it's Marine & Ozonic Nuances...... Very clever on their part though, because the struggle to put our hand EXACTLY on what the nose is smelling is quite an intriguing journey- and IMO, ENTIRELY meant to be that way (*_*)

I know this is essentially an eau do cologne formula, but it is a legitimately beautiful twist on the genre that I just wish were about 30% cheaper! It has all of the longevity of the two big niche neroli-heavy eau de colognes (Neroli Portofino and Cologne Indelible), but it has just a beautiful smidge of tuberose-goodness. It is definitely not a tuberose beast, but all of the intriguing aspects of the real flower are there--the methyl-salicylate mintiness, the rubberiness, the sweet-indolic white flower sillage. To be sure--all of those aspects are really subtle and merely serve to color the overall scent which, when it comes down to it, is a citrus heavy cologne scent...but that slight white-floral bent to the formula is so gorgeous. It smells miles away from the streets of New York, but it feels luxurious and impressive and subtle, which jives with my sense of the city.

Like so many from Le Labo, this one’s name is misleading. There isn’t much tubereuse in Tubereuse 40. It is much more an eau de cologne than a white floral, but they are there. The opening starts off with a big blast of citrus off my skin before settling into a fresh, clean, super unisex and wearable fragrance. The tuberuese shows up around an hour in, but again, it’s in the background and gives the scent some density. I’m a huge fan of this style of fragrances and I’m so glad I picked it up when I was in NYC in April. But, is it worth the money of a city exclusive? I think so, but there are a lot of other eau de cologne fragrances out there. Other than cost, my biggest beef with this fragrance is longevity, but I think that might be a problem with the style, and not just this fragrance. I love it and I’m glad I have it. That’s pretty much all I need to know.

Opens with an explosion of citrus. Becomes a citrus-neroli scent. Comparisons to Neroli Portofino by Tom Ford are justified. However, they are not identical. The Neroli Portofino by Tom Ford has the lavender, angelica, and rosemary herbal punch that Tubereuse 40 is lacking. NP smells fresher and beachier. Tubereuse smells more floral and more like froot loops. NP also smells cleaner and soapier, while Tubereuse 40 is more of a citrus-floral. Got a compliment today at work on this one. :D She said it smelled clean.09/ ETA: 09/06/2019 Good thing I'm trying this out a second time. This time all I'm getting from this scent is shampooed carpets. Wet carpet.

I like this interpretation of easy to wear, daily and floral tuberose with notes of citruses. However, this is not a sweet or sexy tuberose, unlike the one in Kilian, nor is it dark unlike the one in Diptyque's Do son. This tuberose is just your normal, playful, "safe" flower with pretty common top notes of orange flower and bergamot. I do enjoy it, don't get me wrong, I just personally don't find it unique or collection-worthy!

I absolutely love this! To me this is Le Labo’s best fragrance along Gaiac 10, Rose 31 and The Noir. The mix of tuberose stem with the best mix of tangerine and neroli is a masterpiece. It calms me and reminds me of beautiful memories when I lived in NYC. Test it on your skin first.

this was a hand me down. it’s a good fragrance however the longevity was not there. personally, i would never pay the city exclusive prices for this and as mentioned in other reviews, i can’t say it encapsulates the nyc experience.

A longer lasting neroli portofino. It is an extrait concentration, so lasting power is pretty good for a citrus.

BACKGROUND: I just got the 2015 sample set of the exclusives from LuckyScent and will wear one a day with a review for each - from a male perspective. Today I'm wearing Tubereuse 40 on a Sunday afternoon. SCENT: What a burst of joy this is up top - jasmine and clean white florals hit straight up quickly joined (and improved further) by sweet tendrils of citrus - neroli and tangerine. But what's this? Something familiar is unravelling - well hello again, Neroli 36. OFFICE READY? I am going to say yes - this might at first seem a little sweet and light for the serious business of the office, but if I smelt this on a colleague, especially another male, I'd quietly applaud him for wearing what I think is quite clearly a quality floral. A scent for a ballsy forward thinker, who doesn't spray cheap. NIGHT OUT READY? I'd go daytime with this - juicy fresh and full of spring optimism, I think a nightclub or date night would feel incongruous, like Shirly Temple doing her two-step at a rave. Not that it's prissy. It's just that this is sunshine in a bottle and smelling this in a club will make your friends think of tomorrow's closed-curtains comedown. BETTER THAN THE REGULARS? I love Neroli 36 and own a bottle of it for those happier mornings. The florals and sandalwood make this a little more special than the Neroli - although still very similar. Consider it a single step up. WORTH THE $440 (AU $600)? No - it's special, but not that special. For $440 you could get the 100ml of Neroli and 50ml of one of Le Labo's white florals and DIY it. WORTH $240? For the regular price I would buy it instead of topping up my supply of N36. So yes, it is. HIGHLIGHTS: No skank, no seedy undercurrent - yet complex enough in its softness, its beautiful blending of jasmine and neroli, transitioning to a slightly more austere sandalwood. This- this is the first day of summer holidays.

I'm assuming Alberto Morillas has been to New York, so I'm not sure why he made a beach scent. However I will say it's a pretty good beach scent. It smells like a more complex, better version of Jones Beach by Bond No.9. mixed with Tom Ford Neroli Portofino. Really nice beach scent. Not 500 dollars nice, more like 150 nice. Update: I spoke to a very knowledgeable Le Labo manager who solved this riddle and others in the city' exclusive line. She said the inspiration for this was taken from their flagship boutique in New York. Apparently there is a dry cleaning place nearby that gives the smell of fresh linens. So that is what they smell every day in addition to perfume of course. 🙂

I enjoyed it! I pick up the Tuberose, but fortunately it doesnt overshadow the fragrance the way that I feel it does on my skin with other fragrances. Tuberose usually gives me a 'thailand resort' vibe, but here it works with the citrus to create a really nice and fun fragrance that I could see myself (man) rocking outdoors, socialising in summer. In a traditional sense it may lean feminine, but unlike other tuberose fragrances, I think this is totally unisex. I had great performance as well. Edit: further wearing an and I pick up on the neroli and petigrain. Everything is nicely balanced and projects nicely.

Although the pros commonly complain that this is not a tuberose, I can smell the tuberose just fine and I like it. It's a milder version of Fracas and doesn't last as long as Fracas does. To be perfectly honest, I bought it because it was my first time to NYC and I wanted a souvenir. This particular Le Labo fragrance is exclusive to NYC, so I've been told.

Super summery fragrance, similar to Neroli Portofino but it goes its own way, this one is woody, fruity, mossy, slightly yellow floral. Elegant, i would say unisex-fem, but its a breath of fresh air on a hot day.

Very similar to Diptyque’s eau de Sens. Fresh linen smell. But I find the orange blossom is more pronounced in this one.

This scent paints a very specific picture for me. Imagine a large mall with large bathrooms and with service personel working in the bathrooms. Whilst you are washing your hands they are giving you fresh soap bars and are drying your hands with warm towels, and you are expected to tip them generously. With this descritption in mind it is safe to say this smells very clean and soapy. A white musk, and with a fresh clean citrus-y top note. The oakmoss is easy to detect and builds character and depth. The jasmine/tuberose smell almost like lily-of-the-valley and for me this is what makes this smell luxurious. A name like tubereuse gives you a certain expectation to the smell, and especially with a price point like this... Nevertheless it do smell very citrus-y, and the bergamot is very prominent during the whole wear which is only 3 hours? Maybe shorter? It is dissapointingly short lived, and not at all worth it as a niche perfume with a limited buy frame. For an easy-wear, clean, flower perfume by a designer brand I could consider it, because it really is okay, but it does have some flaws in my opinion.

First spritz: refreshing GLORIOUS! Green 💚 I was just getting to be bored with Jo Malone’s Orange Blossom, but I lovvve honeysuckle 🤤 Smell, so thought this =perfect replacement! Couple hours later eh. It’s ok. But at first was 10/10 w/that L.L. DNA I also sense NYC DNA

sweet, almost syrupy, and thin. white florals. this is not NY at all. idk how tuberose and NYC are even connected. i like it, but this is another case of the le labo city and scents not matching at all.

Honestly it's not as good as Le Labo Lys, which is a better tuberose in my opinion. Fun thing to try but the cirtus bites and ages differently from the floral... Not really a crowd-pleaser either.

As much as I like it I wouldn't bother in buying a bottle, on my skin it doesn't last and fades within an hour or so. Is a shame because I truly believe it's a lovely scent.

Partner is trying this one tonight as part of the City Exclusives Discovery Set I purchased as a gift for him. I caught a whiff, then a deep sniff - Tom Ford Neroli Portofino! He agreed. It has a slightly sweeter profile than TFNP, but it's quite close. Oddly, we tried it on paper and only got the tuberose elements and underlying sandalwood. All in all, this is one of the scents we have enjoyed from the 11 sample pack, but probably not adding this to the list to consider for full bottles.
