Arboretum

A blind buy for me that exceeded all my expectations. The best pine I have ever smelled in a bottle. Opens with mossy, creamy pine nuts, soaked pine needles with a hint of citrus. There are some floral notes in the background as well. The next stage brings forward the geranium absolute and adds a bitter note, like wormwood, that slowly fades to the background. The drydown is mossy musk/amber with faint pine. There are definitely more notes than listed. Arboretum is natural smelling, unique and easily wearable. I am impressed by the quality and complexity . Sillage is excellent, Arboretum wafts and leaves a scent trail. Longevity is better than average, except for the citrus that disappear from my skin in minutes. I would say Arboretum layers well as traces of other scents does not affect it much. The story of the gardener prince makes a good topic for conversation. Ovarall, Arboretum deserves a Nobel prize*.

What a beauty! Yes, the designer is a company also selling (luxury) gardening tools AND fine clothing AND books. And no, the guy in charge for pulling carrots is probably not the same guy who designed this fragrance, Pierre Bourdon. Who pulled some carrots also for Creed, Mark Birley and Parfums de Rosine. This being said, I get woody notes (not necessarily pine, but generally coniferae), complete with the natural resin flowing on the bark and also lots of spices in a joyful and sweet combination. Quite strong and long lasting (after 10 hrs it's still there on my wrist).

Sadly discontinued if I am well informed (no perfume on the designer's site). More green aromatic than woody in my opinion, quite similar to British fragrances like Floris Elite or Penhaligon Sartorial. I don't agree with the note pyramid. It's a fairly linear scent, oakmoss is there together with santal wood, resin, a bit of musk and maybe artemisia or some similar flower. It's quite heavy, good sillage, more a spring than summer fragrance and nothing for hot humid climates. Distinguished, elegant and easy to wear.

Arboretum is an enjoyable mossy fragrance with a musty edge to it. It does smell quite green, but alas, it doesn't smell like pine to me. It's still quite enjoyable, but I was hoping for more pine resin. The overall feeling to this fragrance is that it feels refined and I believe would wear well in a formal setting, or on a beautiful summer drive in jeans and a t-shirt. I'm happy to have some in my collection and would recommend trying a sample to all those who love a good green fragrance.

I know it says for men but I love pine and buy men's fragrances sometimes. Yet, I was hoping for unisex fragrance as I discovered some men's colognes are really unisex. Not this one. It is definitely masculine. Smells wonderful on a man but not sure I can wear it.
