Ombra di Tiglio (2024)

Just tried the new version of Ombra di Tiglio, I had even voted for his return on L' Erbolario Instagram page, and I must admitt I am very content with the result of this new "operation nostalgia"! The new version is more fresh, it certainly misses the heavy powderiness of the old version (no heliotrope in the 2024 version), and it is less pasty, less heavy and less indolic, with a more light and airy finish to it. I suspected the presence of some other yellow flower in the old version which is not present in the new formulation. The opening of Ombra di Tiglio (2024) scared me a bit. The lemon peel is strong, seriously strong. At tracts it may recall something harsh and akin to a home detergent, with a slight lemongrass impression. No orange flowers to sweeten the intro, as it was for the old version, and only a slightly green accord softens the bright (almost acidic) lemon notes. But after 20 minutes the citrusy dimension settles down, a vague lilly of the valley note adds delicacy, and finally a potent dose of linden blossom starts to emit, creating a potent bubble. Granted, it is a more green, fresh and airy linden blossom in respect to the old formulation, but intensity and complexity is all there. The linden blossom core of the fragrance smells both green and yellow, a minuscule dose of indole is present, adding dimension and thickness; the clean character of the blossoms shines bright without artificial connotations, rendering the whole note quite photorealistic, and a now subtle hint of lemon scent refreshes the whole thing through and through. At this stage of the fragrance, this is indeed a moment spent "all'ombra di tiglio", under a linden blossom tree shadow, be it after one light rain of June or during the most warm afternoon of July, the fragrance indeed smells like a moment of leisure under a linden tree, partaking in their scent which, in my opinion, presents both a malinchonic and carnal character. I am quite pleased with the evolution of the fragrance too, the linden blossom spell is broken by the emerging of a strong, creamy, slightly powdery presence: the lily note. It is at this stage, until the ambery (and subtly musky) dry down, that the fragrance becomes truly sophisticated, departing from the photorealistic dimension to return in the realm of a more complex perfume. The white lily note is married with a clear and light amber and with what I suspect to be a geranium note, creating an accord slightly reminiscent of both something vintage and of a body lotion, very creamy, clean, quite multifaceted, and with a touch of greenery as a base. A remnant of the linden blossoms note can still be percived, softening the edges of the dry down which expresses itself in a musky farewell. The fragrance behaved quite well on me, reaching the 6 hour longevity and possessing a decent sillage (taking in consideration my habit for overspraying). It is available at L'Erbolario website and its retailers in two format, 125ml for 39,90€, and 15ml for 14,90€, as a limited edition (until stock last). It is one of my favorite from L'Erbolario, togheter with Gelsomino Indiano, Dolcelisir, and old Acacia and Muschio Bianco. All in all a great unisex offering for both spring and summer. EDIT: The final part of the musky dry down is reminiscent of the dry down of Light Blue (edt, original) by D&G.

I found my linden blossom cherished scent at last. It was a long quest, sometimes quite close (Jo Malone), sometimes very disapointing (Tilia Marc Antoine Barrois- a punch in the nose, headache inducing powerbeast). Tilleul is very difficult to recreate, it needs air shadow sun honey citrus quietness. It's all in there.

It's the best linden blossom I have encountered. Delicate, slightly sweet, brings back summer sunshine. Just lovely.

Delicate grated lemon peel and linden. Very likeable springtime office perfume with a little bit of complexity. Ok projection, but pretty minimal sillage.

This is not linden blossom, this is lilly of the valley. Soapy lilly of the valley with a hibt of linden blossom in the start. Long lasting and good for the price, but if you want linden blossom, this is not it.

Fuzzy soft laundry floral. Smells like a new T-shirt from the store before you first wash it, or like opening a can of tennis balls. True anti-fragrance where people would most likely not guess you were wearing anything. 10/10 for me personally.
