La Rose de Rosine

On my skin, iris is the first one to show up, immediately followed by an explosion of roses lined with ylangylang. Right away, it brings to mind the image of a person lathering rose-scented soap and swishing the bubbles around. It's jammy and rosy and a little sweet and oh-so-feminine. Something woody and faintly resinous shows up as it slowly becomes powdery. Almost as if there is rose sap being tapped from a tree the way rubber tappers tap rubber. The drydown is somewhat similar to several other chypre roses, with the key difference (for me) being that this rose retains its sweetness. I really enjoyed this. La Rose de Rosine is a seemingly old-fashioned red rose, and a fairly realistic one at that, with some sugar thrown in for good measure. The bed of other flowers on which it rests brings out the rose even better, IMHO, whilst the woodiness adds dimension to it. It is at once comforting and gracefully sensual (if that's possible), kind of like a cashmere sweater on a woman who knows how to work it. Longevity and sillage were decent: about 4-5 hours, with the last 3 hours sitting rather close to the skin.

(A review originally posted on MakeupAlley in 2005, I wanted to re-post it here now because I do not use MakeupAlley anymore [but have many fond memories of using it] and I am trying to get back into writing reviews, using old 'work' as inspiration...): My favorite rose ever, period. Evanescent, ethereal, just perfect. A true beauty that deserves to be sampled. A tip because the staying power is somehow medium at times (but give it a try to see how it reacts to you, please): under armpits (!) with non scented deo or so and then on the armpits and inner sleeves of your blouse or shirt. Gives you and others pleasure. Just please seek it out and see what you think for yourself. A true beauty, queen of perfumes. Top notes: Violet, marigold, ylang-ylang, rose. Heart notes: rose, jasmine, iris. Base notes: tonka bean, benzoin resin, Peruvian balsam (musk). [4 exquisite sorts roses: from Bulgaria, Damascus, Turkey, and Greece...all French-ly concentrated and genius scientist mixed!] Mmmmmmmm.

I love all kinds of rose scents, and this Rose de Rosine is among the very best I've ever tried. It's very original; it's pure rose but it's done in a way I've never encountered before. The opening is at the same time very clean, soapy really, and quite sweet, and the effect that unexpected juxtaposition creates is delightful and wonderful, at least to me. Surprising, but in an obvious, elegant, instant-classic kind of way that makes it seem oldfashioned as well, it's so well thought out and well made. The rose is super jammy, but without any hint of fruitiness: it's pure floral richness - but only in terms of how it smells, because it's not a heavy perfume at all, in fact it's kind of airy too; as it dries down, the initial soapy clean aspect is transformed into a light powdery one. Hard to describe, but very lovely. I have many roses in my (decant) collection already, but this is so unique and so great that it's going straight to the top of my wishlist.

This is a very true rose, a Damask rose from paradise-not heavy like a Bulgarian Rose, nor does it have the strange tomato leaf-like scratchiness of tea roses-not soapy, or powdery-very fresh and very true. Despite the presence of jasmine, violet, iris, this smells like nothing but roses to me.It is indeed as light and pretty as Dia Woman by Amouage, but much rosier, of course. The dry-down is a clean warm rosy musky whisper, with a bit of tonka. I love it, but the best rose-centered rose scent I've ever tried is still Roses Musk by Montale.

I've sniffed a lot of fragrances by now, and very few elicited the response I gave La Rose: "Oh. My. God." This is just that lovely. Disclaimer: I drift towards vintage Caron and Guerlain;. I.e., I like true parfum scents, not the synthetic crap that's sold today. La Rose has my attention. My only 'fair warning': tonka bean tends to go sweet on me. If it becomes a deal breaker I'll circle back and update my review. But for now, this is a luscious, full-bodied rose-iris accord that deserves real estate on my perfume shelf.

Charming powdery rose with a vintage, old school touch, it reminds me of "Ombre Rose", but without that much of the soapy aldehydes (which some might find dated), and warmer in feel. Elegant and safe, sweet, but not over the top, with a very light green undertone (violet leaves, perhaps?) Jasmine definitely plays a role in the composition and enhances it in a slightly animalic way. Overall a great rose perfume, but it lacks some twist for me, it's too classic.

This is up there in my 'favorite rose' category. I've worn this three times now to make sure I wouldn't change my mind. This is such a beautiful, tender scent that is not over done and of high quality. For reference, it reminds me of Amouge's Dia Woman (the lightness aspect), but much more pleasant. this is one I"ve pegged to buy, it's very lovely.

I have so far neglected Rosine's perfume, only to discover that they are actually really, really worth trying out. And although they do seem to share a cunning resemblance (rose in so many versions), all in all, they differ considerably. La Rose de Rosine starts off rather sweet, like a doughnut filling (I am not sure whether in different countries you get a similar type of doughnuts that I am talking about :)). But the foody undertones disappear very quickly, as the fragrance develops in a more mature way. With delicate jasmine and orris, this is a fresh, combination. Not powdery, not gourmand, not green just-cut-from-the-garden type perhaps, but quite green nevertheless. I can imagine flower petals sprinkled with cold water and sugar. For me, it smells very innocent and pure, and I see it as a perfect scent for warmer months.

Beautiful! As in BEAU-TI-FUL!!! This is a very clean and light rose. How they do it? No idea! Can I detect all the individual types of rose? Honestly, no I can’t. But it doesn't matter. This perfume is powerful and airy at the same time (it is!) and I’ve never smelled anything like it. Tempted to call it a masterpiece, if only it lasted a little bit longer (sadly the longevity on me seems to be at the lower end of the scale). Apologies for repeating myself, but I have to add something I have already written for another perfume from LPdR: I cannot believe that I’ve been avoiding this house for years for the stupidest of all reasons (their bottle design isn’t my cup of tea) – Shame on me.

Very beautiful rose fragrance! Very "old fashioned" type of perfume which I enjoy as opposed to a light fruity perfume for a 20 year old. The violet is very present at the opening and then the rose and the iris come into play. Georgeous! Dry down is a nice powdery flower bouquet with the dark rose being the centerpiece. My favorite part! It reminds me of Brosseau Ombre Rose for its powdery feel. Overall very lovely, not too heavy and very feminine. Sillage: Moderate Longevity: A good 6 hours

Powdery sweet Violets & Roses! A powdery and soapy perfume, a classic beautiful Rose perfume. This would have found its way on a boudoir dresser of a "Lady" I'm sure of it. Its sweetly romantic, I cant help but imagine Victorian times, Edwardian times and the high class of the 20s and 30s, elegant ladies swanning around wearing this effortlessly. There is something so familiar about this, like something a great Aunt would have worn. A must try.

Very, very strong and powerful rose. It's a little bit cold on my skin, I suspect because of violet which I do love, but it sometimes turns metalic on me. The rose here is refreshing, almost crisp and very feminine. Not my favourite rose scent, because of the metalic feeling, but I can easily suggest to at least try this to those who love rose in their perfumes.

An earthy, deep rose fragrance. From the opening notes of damp earth and red rose, through to what, on my skin, is a wonderful spicy dryness, to a final dry-down of warm, spicy with a light floral and violet note, it is a well crafted rose fragrance with a light sweetness. (3.5)

I find the iris and violet more powerful than rose here, not bad but surprising given the name. It almost borders on licorice. It's feminine but not sexy, very prim and absent any edge at all.

I like la Rose de Rosine in combination with Lancome's Tresor. I use la Rose de Rosine to layer.

A hopeful start with a strong rose followed by a prominent violet note. Then faded to a rosy powder—not bad but also easily forgotten. Base is week on this perfume which is notable in that I can’t remember the last time I experienced this in a perfume with a promising opening. Longevity is subpar.

A powdery rose. Little vintage vibe. I can smell rose, iris and violet. More for a mature woman, a classic and elegant mature woman. 5/10, not for me. I prefer Rose Griotte in this brand.

ALL I GOT FROM THE WORD GO WAS PERU BALSAM {MUSK}.NO ROSE OR ANY OTHER FLOWER .AS IT DRIED DOWN HOURS LATer I BEGINE TO DETECT A Vague poWDERY ROSE.Has ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED this ,THE MUSk OVERPOWERS THE ROSE FOR ME .EITHER MY SKIN TYPE OR THE HEAT 32cnt+.the perfume arrived without the cellophane not sealed but bought from a very reputable source.i havnt asked her yet why it came unwrapped.if it wasnt for the peru balsam i would be overjoyed.i have never experienced this note before so now i know its not for me .as the night cools i well try it again ,i went by the reviews and wanted a special rose for the summer.on cool showered skin it may react differently.i dont see one review with a reaction like mine ,dissapointed.

I sent it back to Rosin in Paris.they sent me a replacement perfume.what a difference.what a lovely delightful perfume.they were genuinly upset that such a bad example old and with its notes missing should be sold in there flagship boutique in Paris or anywhere and were quick to replace it.now i can buy from their boutique with peace of mind and experience these beautiful perfumes.i didnt buy the old one ,a friend bought it for me.expired in 2014 and completly devouid of its notes.box was dirty and shop worn,an old tester.Today thexnew one arrived in the post and i was abke to experience roses and powder,im happy.

This is an extremely powdery rose. I personally find it old-fashioned. It can best be described as a fine, powdery layer of iris on top of a feminine and pink yet mature rose. I'm sure the right person would find it pretty, but it's just too mature for me.

Not my favorite, by far. I have decided that I really do not enjoy oriental fragrances. I prefer Rosines more floral/fruity/aquatic fragrances. Am working my way thru the entire line of samples. So far, I like them all, except the orientals. Fun!

La Rose de Rosine starts with really potent raisin jam scent with sweet rose hint. It’s somewhat just my type of desert in a cold day but it’s not what I would love to wear on my skin and constantly smell of. Somehow it’s really similar to the smell of Tim Tam (famous Australian chocolate biscuits)Dark Chocolate collection, the purple one with raisin. It’s a rather linear scent, with the rose gradually amplified and the sticky raisin jam scent gradually backs to the background. The rose scent is velvet, dark, and somewhat old-fashioned with a Victorian charm, it doesn’t make me think of my grandma (unlike some rosewater-ish perfume might have the instantly-teleport-you-to-your-grandma’s-cosmetic-drawer effect). As time pass by, it gets more soft and powdery in a rosy way. It’s much less demanding and much nicer (even with a little bit soft milky touch). However, I’m not sure is it my skin, the scent somehow totally disappeared after about 5 hours; foody, gourmand and somewhat homely and lovely as it is, there’s something in this rose scent which makes me feel it’s not balanced and I just don’t see my relationship with La Rose de Rosine last. But on the other hand, it's a lovely sweet perfume just like chocolate to me, when I go without it for a while, I would literally craving for a sniff of it. Worth trying if you like sweet perfume with some nice personality and a welcoming manner.

LA ROSE DE ROSINE strikes me as a classic floral aldehyde of the “old lady” kind—which by the way is a term of endearment, not derogation, in my perfume book. Rose is unsurprisingly the centerpiece of this beautiful composition, created by a house built amazingly upon some person's rose note OCD. And that's a beautiful thing, too, by the way. The house of Rosine offers a wide variety of finely calibrated yet distinctive rose perfumes, basically covering the entire olfactory map while also focusing on rose. LA ROSE DE ROSINE is closest, according to my nose, to something along the lines of Jean-Charles Brosseau L'OMBRE ROSE, with its vintage vibe. There may even be a touch of good old evernia prunastri here. Anyway, I like this one a lot, and can heartily recommend it to rose-loving aficionados of old-fashioned floral aldehydes on the chypre side.

*New take*: The perfume in my bottle of LA ROSE DE ROSINE opens very sweetly, so I do affirm the presence of violet right off. In fact, looking at the notes in the hierarchy, I can only conclude that there was a decanting or labeling error involved in the production of my carded sample. Based on this fresh bottle, I'd say that LA ROSE DE ROSINE is a fresh, sweet rose fragrance with a youthful appeal. NOT A CHYPRE at all. I do not detect either aldehydes or oakmoss in this composition. If I were to compare this to another floral perfume it would be closer to BVLGARI POUR FEMME. I still like LA ROSE DE ROSINE quite a lot, but I just lucked out, since my purchase was made on the basis of the previous review!

Rose de rosine is not powdery at all in my opinion. Soft and sweet but not powdery...the Iris in this is very prominent and I would nearly say it competes for top position with the rose. Iris and violet add an almost aquatic touch to the rose while the Tonka sweetens and softens the edges. If Rose de Rosine was a dessert, it would be a candied rose tart...all that being said this is not too sweet. I've come to loathe gourmand perfumes and I would not categorize this as gourmand even with its sweetness. I feel a bit like Sophia Coppola's Marie Antoinette when wearing this, all rose buds and no greenery. I sometimes combine this with red roses by jo Malone to amp up the rose even more.

This perfume is a gem! The beautiful rose and violet accord reminds me of Paris (pre-reformulation, that is), but there's also jasmine, iris, vanilla and musk to create a complex jewel of a scent. Paris recently lost its fulness and to me it became a ghost of itself, but thankfully there's this beautiful Rose de Rosine to take its place as a true Queen among roses! I have just purchased a bottle after wearing a sample for three days, and it will become my signature scent.

It's the most beautiful powdery rose. With a hint of violet and a well balanced iris. It's classy, it's romantic, almost safe but not childish or simplistic. Now, for those who claim this is a dupe of YSL Paris... are you guys okay? Just to make things very clear, La Rose and Paris have ZERO similarities. But I guess the eXpErTs of the community have hivemindedly agreed on its dupe status lol.

I had a sample and just broke it out again, to compare with TF Rose Prick. I hate to say it but not a fan. I can’t even describe it it’s just not memorable for me. Weak, too sweet and that’s it IMO. Actually I’m not a big fan of rose scents, unless they’re done exquisitely and in very good taste, then mellowed out with another note that’s not so sickeningly sweet and/or medicinal.

A softter, safer Misia. Damn nice, but, sorta-kinda redundant next to Misia. Rosey, violetey, white florally and really REALLY pleasant. This one should probs have a bit more resin-base, you know, to funk it up a little, but this might be RIGHT up your alley. The plastic-waxyness really comes out a few hours down the track. Beautiful stuff...

Violet and iris are both very much in the game, equals the roses, on my skin at least. Musk is not listed in the notes, but I think there must be musk...? Or is it the combination of tonka/peru balsam/benzoine that give that effect? Very nice, this!

Sweetish rose, with interesting accents and a fresh high top note. Very good representation of how some real roses smell, but not quite different enough for me to want to own it. Classic floral fragrance however. 7/10 on my score card.

Soapy, sweet candy roses. I know that sounds bad, but it's really a gorgeous fragrance. Clean, clear tart rose with a sweetness that isn't cloying. I'm loving this one.

My mother wears this often and it's so lovely on her. It smells ofcourse very 'rosey', very chic and somewhat soapy. I love the bottle too.
