Twill Rose

Elegant, classy and refined, TWILL ROSE is a handsome interpretation of the traditional rose fragrance. Created for gentlemen, the fragrance remains reserved, well-balanced and stylish. The harmony is achieved by balancing the sweet rose scent with fresh citrus notes, green galbanum and woods. The scent is totally unisex and will smell equally gorgeous on a man or on a woman. The composition starts green and cool with citrus and earthy galbanum. The opening is spiced up by a pink pepper. The rose in the heart notes starts slightly sweet, warm and earthy. There is also a beautiful light violet note mingled with the roses. The rose scent becomes deeper with time. The dry down is a gorgeous, earthy rose carved on woods and spiced with amber. I love its deep and sophisticated tone. Truly unisex, elegant and beautiful, this perfume is definitely a keeper. Ladies, do not hesitate to give this a try. I love this balanced and well-done rose scent. Overall score is 9/10.

Lets not beat about the rosebush This is elegant classy and I agree with icecat the violet tone is just so fragrant and beautiful and I slowly start to get the amber and musk which I adore. Would I want it? What a question? A must for my collection, I love it, even if its staying power is very short

Rosine certainly made a bunch of blunders when they brought this out. First, oh this is not a male fragrance. I can't imagine more than 10 men ever wearing this. What man wears a fragrance with a pink cord around the metallic sprayer cover? How does that identify it as a masculine scent? I certainly didn't buy it thinking it was a masculine scent. I can't remember when I bought it either or where. Maybe off the internet and just reading the notes. And knowing I love most Rosine scents. It's fabulous. No doubt the peony attracted me, and it's there, but Twill is a rosy violety powdery bomb on my skin. Femmie to the max. But not in a traditional way. It's not a dry Floris scent fromt the 1950's. So they must have thought the public would be confused. Not that Rosine scents command "the public;" their public is pretty small proportionately. They aren't Chanel. It's just us, Rosine lovers; we'd get it straight away that this was a slightly different rose scent, to appeal to women looking for something different. So Rosine misjudged the sex of their buyer, put on a pink cord to identify it as a male scent, and misjudged who might wear it. Next blunder: the name. Twill? What person under age 50 even knows what twill is? Or associates twill with men's clothing? It's not like there were a lot of fragrances named after fabric types in 2006 either. Or at any time. Twill Rose is more of a lace perfume, but calling it rose lace and having it be a powdery scent would have been too old fashioned. Horrors; no contemporary perfumer wants to go there. Liberty of London had a stronger Anais Anais type fragrance called Organza in the early 1990's which I don't think sold very well, but Organza would have worked better than twill. It would certainly have brought in the female buyer. I'm sure Rosine knows men are a tougher sell on any rose perfume. Not that their stuff isn't loaded with it. But most men still have issues with roses being associated with femininity. They're willing to wear scents laden with roses, but they don't want to know they're doing it. Calling a scent Twill Rose probably wouldn't be enough to make them leap. So a lot of women are missing this lovely rose scent. It's too bad. I have it and I don't wear it often either. It sort of feels like Rosine didn't try hard enough to sell this scent. I have to wonder why.

I don't know what everyone else here is huffing, but this is dirrrrrty rose... Rose that has been shagged in a hedge and smells of earth and sex and body odor. Galbanum and cumin predominate here, with a serious, damascone heavy rose. I know this is a "gents", but I wear this just as much as my husband ;) Give your pits a spray after a workout and just own that animalic stank. Fabulous stuff.

While looking for something else, I happened upon a full vial of Les Parfums de Rosine Twill Rose and deduced that I must never have sniffed this creation before. Yes, that's pretty much how my selection process for testing perfumes works: totally random and arbitrary. It has nothing to do with how long I've had the samples nor whether I'm being fair in reviewing all of the perfumes of a house before any of the perfumes of another. No, there is no justice in this process whatsoever. Occasionally I'll be motivated to conduct myself rationally, say, by testing samples which I've had long enough that a fear of evaporation starts to become legitimate. But usually after a day or two those pangs of rationality are trumped by momentary caprice. Twill Rose opens like a bruise: greenish blue. Very interesting. I was debating whether there might be some basil or tarragon or shiso in this composition, but now looking at the notes I see that I must be perceiving a tinted version of galbanum--tinted by other substances present, of which by far the most dominant eventually becomes PINK PEPPER. As Twill Rose dries down, the pink pepper expands and expands until all memories of the bluish green bruise opening have vanished, leaving behind a pink pepper rose. Quite a journey around the color wheel and through a variety of textures as well! I'd recommend this unisex perfume for testing by anyone who likes the Rosine rose presentation and also pink pepper. A lot.
