Vine Thief

"Vine Thief" is a complex and gorgeous masterpiece. Surprisingly, it opens with a blast of orris root and just a touch of strawberry in the background, but the orris quickly fades and takes its place behind a boozier strawberry that is neither artificial/candy smelling, nor juicy/tart. It's more like the sweet smell you get from dried strawberries, albeit still mixed with a lighter touch of orris and whiskey. After two or three minutes, the leather/labdanum and woods slowly develop and mix with the dried strawberry and orris, while the whiskey fades a little. This is definitely not a drug store strawberry. The strawberry softens the leather while the orris/iris keeps the fruit note from being too sweet. Call it sophisticated strawberry for grownups. About half an hour in, musk, skin, baby powder, and the condensed milk note start to surface and the scent really comes into itself as something glorious. It's pure comfort. Strawberries, milk, skin/powder/musk, iris, and leather sounds like a weird combination, but because it's all blended so expertly, the effect is like wrapping oneself in a childhood comfort-blanket. In winter time (now), it's like sitting beside a crackling fire, surrounded by your favourite dolls while sipping a cup of warm milk. An hour and thirty minutes in, the leather and resins are nearly gone and this is pure strawberry-milk-vanilla-skin-musk without being overly sweet. The scent works just as well for autumn and spring. It may be harder to pull off in hot weather. The drydown, after the woods burn off, might work in summer as a milk-and-strawberries-dollhead scent, but honestly the best part of this perfume is the journey, and the journey is complicated. Wonderful, but complicated. So yes, reader, I am in love with this. It's modern, with all the trendy milk and strawberry notes - but also has an expensive and timeless quality that goes beyond a simple gourmand and into woodsy and oriental territories. The packaging and bottle are also beautiful, with a bird-and-foliage Liberty print on the large cap reminiscent of William Morris's "The Strawberry Thief" (which I'm supposing it got its name from). In any case, my dresser looks fancy! I got my full bottle secondhand for less than half retail - £225 is steep! - but for people who can afford that I think this one is worth it.

Very yummy! Trying to broaden my perfume collection, and I didn’t have 1 strawberry scent!! This perfume is very very good, I will say the strawberry scent is pretty realistic, and last about an hour. The liquor note is heavy in the opening (which I think is a very good thing) and then once it all settles down, turns into a sweet & musky skin scent. This is not going to be your powerhouse, but I would say lasts a good 8-10 hours, with the last half being more of a skin scent (which truly is not a bad thing imo) I had the scent on for about 2 hours and went shopping & a stranger told me how good I smelled! So it checks a lot of boxes for me - Helps broaden my collection ✅ Compliments from strangers ✅ Smells good ✅ Lasts long ✅ Oh...the bottle design?! Magnetic cap, and super unique!

I got it blind zero regret . Amazing perfume I can't stop wearing it since I got it sexy seductive. Has new perfume profile I have never smelt something like it before. Every time I wear it I been asked what I'm wearing. Sexy in crazy way normally I don't like strawberry note it's capable of making any perfume cheap smelling. But here totally different.that perfume for sexy attractive confidence mischievous lady I would imagine you can get any man you want wearing that perfume The perfume red fruit plus creamins and there are anther notes make me feel like clean sweat of women skin little bit animalic Guys at least try

To answer my own question, yes - Vine Thief is amazing! Not what I expected but perhaps even better once I got to know it. It is sweet boozy powdery orris, you can feel a bit of condensed milk too. Strawberry gives sweetness and playfulness but all the notes are blended very well and I can’t pick strawberry apart. Sophisticated, adult gourmand. In my over 100+ collection I have nothing like it, and it is one of my all time favourites. It is an acquired taste, niche, feminine, not challenging but not conventional either, so try it out for yourself! 🫶

For me it opens very sweet strawberry with a drying down that turns more leathery and rooty. The powdery iris remains there throughout. As the fragrance dries down The strawberry takes a step back and allows the leather and the powdery milk to come through. Beautiful fragrance. Delicious smell. I think it leans more female than male. My partner thinks it smells of resin on the open. But likes the dry down immensely

I wanted to love this because I’m looking for my perfect gourmand to round out my collection. I’ve been wearing it for about 9 hours and had a respray about 4 hours in. On first spray I was put off by the green powdery element which I think might be the clearwood which reminds me of the old Leichner grease sticks and make up pans that my mother had. Putting that to one side, my overall impression was that it feels like going for high tea in a boutique hotel. You enter through the lobby and the sweet smell from the dining room mingles with a fresh cut bouquet, a leather armchair and a medicinal herbal aroma drifting across from the spa. You soon leave this behind and take your seat in the dining room. There is a pot on the table, piled high with strawberry jam and then you are served a large plate of scones with clotted cream and yet more jam whilst a woman with damp hair who has just emerged from the spa, and dried herself using talc takes her seat at the next table. It’s pleasant but not in an addictive way. This is the third sample from Liberty’s line of fragrances that I’ve had from my beauty boxes but none so far have inspired me enough to pay the considerable amount for a full size. Definitely not a blind buy and not for me though I can see how some people would love it. It might be a different story if they’d been able to blend in a longer lasting green note for more of the vine feel amongst the fruit that the name suggests.

Sweet is the primary reference here. There is strawberry but it’s not a straight up fruity with a wood base. There is a powdery aspect to the mid wear. The strawberry is something that glimpses through the orris and wood. The glimpses are strawberry ice lolly rather than green. Really pleasant and not overwhelming but has reasonable longevity. My only criticism with the fragrance is its lack of uniqueness. I hoped the Liberty brand might innovate a little given the store is a great place to find quirky fragrances Its a fairly safe buy for anyone who likes sweet fragrance with powdery aspects.

This is a super interesting one. Tows the line of being very unique while still being somewhat universally likeable. A very well balanced strawberry gourmand that isn't cloying or juvenile but very seductive and sophisticated. The condensded milk note lends a lactonic sweetness that is rounded out perfectly with the orris and leather.

04/24 Very intense strawberry start. Wish it would be less sweet. On a different note: This is my fourth sample of a niche perfume calendar and I can’t help but be a little bit disappointed so far. I know, it’s just the fourth day, but so far all of the fragrances were overwhelmingly sweet, easy and crowd-pleasing. It’s my first fragrance calendar so idk maybe this is just the way it works, but I’m so tired of sweet and fruity gourmand scents.

Came to it with an open mind, but this turned out to be one of the first perfumes I have ever had to violently remove from my skin five minutes after application, so I can only talk about the perceived top notes. In my skin, I didn't get any of the notes apart from the leather. Very very loud new leather treated with lots of chemicals. Might as well have been burnt rubber. This all takes place in some type of woodworking workshop full of wet paint (guess that's the alcohol note). No strawberry in sight. If I smell "from the bottle" I can smell some diffuse sweetness which might be strawberries and I get a hint of the perfume's vision, but I could never suffer through the opening to get to the still rather meh result. It's for sure niche in the way that it's very unique and photo-realistic if only in the way I described above. Hard pass for me.

Very unique fragrance. Hard for me to describe as I’ve never smelled anything quite like it and I feel others have already described it better than I could. It’s feminine, sweet and boozy with a powdery, gentle orris that dries to a comforting strawberry milk, vanilla, musk scent with some woods but it is not overly woody at all, just a little. It has a touch of greenness to it too but not much. The full dry down kinda reminds me of a strawberry shortcake in a non juvenile way. Would be nice for someone looking for an interesting, sophisticated, gourmand scent. Wears close to the skin. Sold my bottle as it wasn’t for me.

I had really high hopes for this, as it was my first time trying a Liberty fragrance and I was so disappointed. To my nose this is an Orris forward fragrance with subtle notes of strawberry. This fragrance is a delight. It's a nostalgic experience of strawberry Twizzlers and vintage orris. I get a lot of leather, sweetness and the orris, and the combination does just seem so-twizzler like. This does fade in the dry down to a more musky, earthy scent with just a mild sweetness. I love it though. A gem.

Hi, Happy Cat. I tested this on my wrists last weekend (in store) and this fragrance developed nicely over some hours. At first spray it is very strong in the liqueur and alcohol but soon the strawberry sponge cake and baby talc appears. It’s definitely something comforting and familiar from childhood, imho.

I love this scent but it makes me nauseous every time I wear it! Even after one spray, I have a headache for a couple of hours and my nose itches. It's a big shame because its otherwise such a fun, sweet, boozy scent and I love the William Morris theming.

I’m not huge on leather but I don’t mind it at all here. I mostly get an intense powdery orris with like a fluffy strawberry and a bit of leather coat. I really like it!

If there's anyone located in the US who wouldn't mind selling me a small 2-3 ml sample of this, please let me know!
