Of True Minds

Personally, I don't get how this fragrance was inspired by the William Shakespeare sonnet. If I was creating a fragrance inspired by that sonnet I would go with something more floral and more feminine. But nonetheless I still like this fragrance very much. It is an interesting take on patchouli. I really like the addition of amaretto here It gives this fragrance a lovely boozy sweetness that is very appealing. It softens the rough edges of the very earthy patchouli that has been used in this fragrance. I like the fact that they kept the Oris root in check here and I don't think that this fragrance is chalky or too powdery. It lets the patchouli shine which is the main theme of this fragrance. The suede here is very supple and it almost has a tobacco-like smell to me. As if A very expensive suede handbag was left behind in a house with a man that likes to smoke fine Cuban cigars. And also drink amaretto. This is very unisex. But my husband would never wear this because he doesn't like Iris/orris root. I actually find this fragrance quite sexy and provocative. I think I will enjoy wearing the sample. If you love patchouli centric fragrances, you should check it out. I'm really surprised by some of the hate on this fragrance. I find it beautifully blended and very mild. Pachouli Paris from Guerlain is a harsher patchouli than this and I thought that was very wearable. Personally I like Of True Minds a lot better. It is much more multi-faceted. Maybe it is more "shock" because this is such a departure from what types of perfumes Liis usually produces. I really think I have to update this to a love. It is one of the best patchouli centered fragrances I've tested. It has amazing longevity and sillage while remaining chic and not obnoxiously overpowering. I'm a very feminine woman but I wore this beautifully. On par with Le Mat, or Sara Horowitz's Journeys4/Rima.

OK i love this perfume so friggin much! I hope they don't discontinue it because of all the hate it's getting, but I just ordered a larger decant as a formality before purchasing a fb. It did have patchouli so if you hate on patchouli then this probably won't work. I've gotten used to it now and don't really smell a lot of patchouli. There's a lot of kinda resinous scents in here that are great but they may be an acquired taste. I used to not like resinous smells but I kinda got used to them buying some resin incense at some point and kinda hanging with it a while. OTM is spicy and projects like an arms length away. It lasts maybe 4-5 hrs on my skin as a projector but you can smell it at the skin level for maybe 7. It's significantly different in sillage from any of the other Liis perfumes (which I also dig tbh but most don't project this much). I'd even say it's almost beast mode. The dry down is beautiful imo and the amber really comes out. The Only drawback to OTM is that you can't pick it up at the discount perfumery sites. So it's $175/50ml. I'm paying about that for 90 ml of Initio. However, I'm still gonna get it cause I dig it so much. I imagine I'll be spraying less of this than I do some other perfumes so I feel like it'll kinda even out in the wash. If you like Amber fragrances, and smoky spicy stuff this might be up your alley. Just get a decant to start cause it's for sure, based on the reviews, not a safe blind but. 9/10 for me.

LOVE THIS SCENT! Perfect as the weather changes. Wood and leathery, but soft with brightness to come out of the cold into the warm weather and looking forward to seeing how it performs moving from summer into the winter as we transition to deeper scents. You must be a lover of the unconventional and love green, leather, patchouli, and orris. I am a huge fan of these which is why this is a big win in my personal preferences. I did not like this in the winter and will give it a go. Likely because I was wearing stronger deeper scents to cut through the cold weather at the time this smelled strangely waxy and a bit weak. As the weather changes I am loving these more soft “skin” scents. This is by no means quiet - you will sense it, but when I say “soft” it is more overall well blended feeling and feels layerable.

Maybe I’m a contrarian but I would absolutely wear this everyday. It’s a smoky sexy suede. I think if you have a contrasting persona to this fragrance it would be a sort of coy little slip of “ there’s more to the story here” it’s got a depth to it. My husband really liked it on me. Said it smelt like sweet smoke, and incense. And that’s exactly the essence I would like to embody when I wear a fragrance. This is a smoky boozy amber, it has a sharpness to it as mentioned by other reviews. A “saltiness” is another good descriptive. That’s what makes this sexy. It’s not gourmand in a cakey thick and buttery way. It’s gourmand like licking caramel off your finger tips.... Very lush. Very tempting.

I recently sampled this and it is STUNNING. Sophisticated, sexy af, it's giving luxury and opulence and makes me feel like a high-society connoisseur. Def not for beginners, unless you want to level up your taste bracket. Tbh I was pleasantly surprised this came from Liis, a house more known for light sparkling florals. It opens like a freshly poured amaretto cocktail and dries down into a warm, well-blended, spicy combination of patchouli and smoky resins. I get hints of salted caramel and tobacco, but they're not listed. The lasting power is insane.

Stunning and so, so addictive! The amaretto really makes it with subtle notes of apricot booze to round out the earthier base. Don't be put off by the poor rating. The brand is known for weak and linear freshies so fans of that will not get what they are looking for here. To the user that said she was expecting a perfume named after a Shakespeare sonnet to be floral and pretty, what have you been smoking? This is Shakespearean to its core. Dark, dramatic, boozy and head-turning.

I sprayed a sample of this among the others in the unseen discovery set, and it seemed a bit too strong on first smell. Throughout the day, I kept wondering to myself what smelled so captivating and luxurious, and realized it was Of True Minds. It is a stronger scent and may be headache inducing for some, but smells like a warm embrace.

A nice, boozy, nutmeg-woody scent, but so masculine I wouldn't own this for myself. He owns a loud truck, knocks dust and dirt from his boots before coming into the house, has a full-on beard sort of man. There's a wild, almost animalic quality combined with smooth, boozy notes that is quite . . . appealing.

An excellent addition to the amber-patchouli category. Smooth, warm, and sueded with a twist of nutmeg. It definitely smells like it would have dark amber juice. Perfect release for fall Outside the scent norm for Liis, which I think is responsible for its poor reception

Believe it or not, this one is a much more approachable version of Amouage Interlude Black Iris, which I love, but is challenging to many. I love Interlude Black Iris, and this one is pretty good, too.

A definite departure from the rest of Liis' offerings, which I've experienced as being lighter and more fleeting. Of True Minds feels like it would be more at home in Diptyque's lineup: there's a warmth and opulence here reminiscent of the 34 series (though without the brighter citrus opening). I don't get the visceral physical reaction some have described below, though I agree it doesn't feel like a daily wear. While it's not necessarily a scent I would reach for often and doesn't quite fit my personality, wearing it is an exercise in one of my favorite aspects of perfumery: the aspirational quality of imagining who I would be, what outfits and events this perfume would suit, and what home decor choices would complement this vibe. I'm picturing a velvet suit with expensive loafers, a deep emerald sitting room with gold accents, and cut crystal barware, sipping a strong cocktail while my wife finishes putting on her makeup before a night out.

I like this! By no means a dupe, but I find this hits a lot of the same beats as Zoologist Chipmunk: nuttiness, spicy nutmeg, patchouli and resin with a touch of an animalic quality. Chipmunk leans a bit more into woods and is a touch more masculine but if you want to smell like a magic tavern, either should tickle your fancy. I did find that on my skin, Of True Minds dried down a bit more sharp and almost a little salty while Chipmunk gets creamier and more hazelnutty, so I lean toward Chipmunk. But both are great cozy autumnal scents.

It’s interesting, and a little goes a long way, which is a nice thing to be able to say about a Liis scent. It’s not cozy like I thought it would be. It’s definitely masculine with a sharp and smoky patchouli and a slightly spicy, medicinal dry down. I don’t hate it—it smells how I imagine Sherlock Holmes would smell— but I don’t see myself wearing it out and about.

This opens with a really strong tobacco. I’m frustrated it’s not there as a note. Very spicy and warm. Tiniest bit of powder on the dry down.

This is a gorgeous complex slightly masculine leaning fragrance.

This is a patchouli bomb and I'm saying that as someone who generally loves patchouli, but I don't love how it's treated here. Maybe I'm not a fan of the suede. I'm trying to think what it reminds me of, but it's giving patchouli gummy worm. Like a gummy worm you plucked out of the soil. It feels like such a mismatch with Liis's other offerings, and I feel like they need to do a "Liis Dark" line and put it in a bottle with a black label and cap instead of their usual white and then maybe it wouldn't be so jarring. Earthy patchouli, suede, and something synthetic and fruity. Maybe that's the amaretto. Hm. As it dries down something vanillic comes through (benzoin?) and the fruitiness subsides, leaving mostly a softer woodchip scent. I think Bo is a better representation of the brand re: woody scents

This is the first Liis fragrance I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed. Patchouli as a prominent note isn’t really for me anyway, so grain of salt I guess. It accomplishes what it sets out to do - a medicinal, strong patchouli with warm facets of nutmeg and suede and an overarching amber quality that you get with these types. A little musty dusty, masc, vintage, worn. Not my type.

For being one of my favorite perfume houses, this release was definitely disappointing. Don't get me wrong, it smells like its advertised notes. It just smells...awful. Amaretto sits at the opening, but its brief, and disappears within five minutes of the initial spray. Upon spraying, you're hit in the face with a strong dose of headache-inducing patchouli and labdanum. Much later, the benzoin and nutmeg come through, and both notes are pleasant in this perfume. I don't get suede at all. Despite being an initial dislike, I wanted to give that sweet, warm benzoin and nutmeg a chance, and wore it work. I got a universal "no" from the colleagues, and they all agreed the patchouli was overwhelming. It sat relatively close to skin as well, so unless you want to douse yourself, the longevity is moderate. All in all, this fragrance lacks depth. If the patchouli was added sparingly, or taken out entirely, and more spices were added, it would have been an excellent winter scent. Of course, my review is entirely subjective. Patchouli and labdanum folks might love this, and I can definitely see someone pulling this off. It just won't be me!

Black sheep of the Liis family. OTM shows up to the garden party in head-to-toe distressed leather, swigging from a hip flask. This is a masc-veering scent, which I mentally group in the “speakeasy” family of boozy leathers. Ex: Bottega Veneta’s Alchemie (more smoky) or Vilhelm’s Faces of Francis (more honeyed). There’s sweet amaretto in the opening, but this soon morphs into a smoked resin. The patchouli is practically opaque and lasts days in fabric. I did enjoy the antique suede, which comes out in the drydown once the orris cleans up the act, but the first eight hours were too much sweaty leather for me. Mental Snapshot: You’re waiting outside of a dive bar for a taxi, huddled against the cold. A handsome stranger offers you their leather jacket. It's welcome at first – warm and thick – until you’re engulfed by the scent of thousands of dive bar nights before: the spilt liquor, the cigarettes, the grease from their motorbike, the sweat of countless other wearers waiting for their taxi... You try to find a polite way to shrug it off, but it’s already begun to absorb you into its fabric... tl;dr: leather jacket final boss 🏍️🥃

This doesn’t smell nice. I have gotten really selective about buying samples, and I thought this sounded good. On my skin, this smells like a sharp men’s cologne. It must be the particular patchouli in this. I typically love patchouli and labdanum, but not here. I get zero amaretto. Zero sweetness. Zero warmth. Maybe it will appear way later. Right now it’s giving me a headache, so I doubt I will wait to find out. My first thought after spraying was this can’t be the right scent, but it’s an official branded sample, so I am afraid it is. While I am glad I tested it, so I know it’s not for me, this is just one more example of why I am considering buying fewer and fewer new release samples. Definitely test this one prior to purchase. I find it super unpleasant. Edit: Be so careful if some fragrances tend to give you migraines. This one made me so sick. Also, know it is tenacious.

Of True Minds has a split personality, it seems. Sometimes it smells sexy - a well tailored suede blazer at a high-end speakeasy, sipping cognac and smoking fine cigars. And other days it smells like the cab of my uncle’s truck: an old Dunkin Donuts cup filled with Marlboro cig butts and ash, the smell of wet black lab fur, and bud light stains on the floor mats. It’s very interesting, but not for me. I know tobacco is not a listed note, and maybe it’s the suede plus the smoke, but there’s absolutely a tobacco scent here and it vacillates between a fine cigar and cheap cigarette butts. It’s not a blind buy - get a sample - and wear it repeatedly because it changes.

unfortunately i could not do this one. the patchouli + suede combo (some of my least favorite notes) came off quite strong and too early for me to have developed the proper, tasteful appreciation for it. to my dad it goes

Lots of spices, some patchouli. Leans more masculine. I just prefer very feminine scents.

If you have a sensitive nose, definitely skip this one. It's leathery, powdery, alcohol, but not in a subtle and warm way like I had hoped. It's very strong, in an astringent way. Maybe it gets better on the dry down, but after two sniffs I immediately got a headache, so I had to tap out. Just not my cup of tea.

This is an old, tough leather jacket with a hint of dusty ashtray. Definitely a good wear if you’re dressing up like Starsky or Hutch. Otherwise it’s an absolute no.

They say that moths who approach the kindred flame meant for them alone emerge not as ash but something jeweled, hollowed. Leathery wings dusty with fine powder, sweet resin, the flame amber-bright and forever preserved, golden liqueur burning without consuming. Each moth recognizes its own flame; instinct, yearning, warm spice that fits a wingspan precisely, honeyed glow. Custom-carved, waiting in shadows like perfectly formed holes in night's fabric. The desperate ones surrender to incineration, their remains falling like crushed petals and sooty silk. But the rare ones, the thieves among them, learn to pocket light itself and carry it home, their stolen fire echoing endlessly within soft chambers, transformed but breathing, burnished light cradled in a charred, earthy embrace.

this is by far the most different fragrance liis has come out with in their overall collection. i wish i got more nuance from this fragrance, particularly more of the amaretto & nutmeg. this basically smells like suede with a hint of patchouli on me. i typically am not into leather / suede notes on my skin personally so this is a pass for me. although this isn’t a unique fragrance, it does give something unique to the collection for those who want something more intense, deep, and resinous.

This is the first one from the House that is a straight no from me. Just...no. It was a scrubber for me. Harsh and astringent and yet somehow sour at that same time, at least on my skin. Studied was an instant hit, Floating is growing on me and approaching full bottle status, but this is a pass. I have noticed that I am not a big patchouli girlie, and leather is usually a pass, too. So the first two notes should've been my first clue this wasn't going to be a hit for me.

It looks like I'm in the minority on this one, but I love it! While the notes are familiar for cool-weather scents, they're done with some freshness from the patch leaf and nutmeg. I get the most teeny hint of booze and smoke; an overall warmth without sticky-sweet. Confident and refined sexiness without that desperate, look-at-me vibe. Definitely on my FB list. Liis is quickly becoming one of my favorite houses. The only miss for me so far has been Bo.

Disappointing. Starts very woody incense but with scream in there. I scrubbed, and the leftovers are a good oud-y wood but in a Done-That kind of way. Reminds me of half a dozen other things that are oud-y wood with screamy spiky woods. Overall not a huge winner for me.

This is just not my personal taste when it comes to fragrance but I love the house so I wanted to give it a try. I respect it for what it is, that being said, its not for me. I'll stick to the lighter scents.

A smooth warm amber with light patchouli in the background. I can see this being headache inducing and it is a bit too masculine for me personally, but I can see others enjoying it.
