Beachy

Lilly Pulitzer’s Beachy isn’t really beachy at all. It’s more of a ‘Summer by the Pool’ than ‘A July Afternoon in Huntington Beach’ fragrance, if I do say so. It successfully evokes the essence of summer in a bottle, probably better than most self-proclaimed summer fragrances. I want winter to be over already so I have been wearing this intermittently for the past few months. I have other Summer fragrances but this one has all the conventional elements that take me instantly to a lounge chair by the pool in 800F weather. The salted watermelon in this is not what you might think. It sounds fruity but it is used interestingly to create a scent of water. It is more of a chlorinated watery scent than an ocean or lake water scent. Strange, I know, but probably more accessible to the wearer since pool sides are more readily available than shorelines. It’s persistent, as it stays throughout the composition, but not overpowering. There is also the sweet, warmed scent of sun-baked skin (due to the salt, amber, and a faint touch of toasted vanilla) and faint suntan lotion (thanks to the tropical flower bouquet). The citrus is barely there but acts as a moderator that keeps the suntan lotion note in check and the water element believable. Beachy has great projection, is long-lasting, and has wonderful sillage, inviting others to join you for drinks by the pool. I would say this is a perfect scent for year-round—perfect for cold weather months while wishing for warmer days and warmer months to welcome the summer sun. It’s well on its way to becoming my signature scent.

She's not dead but, how on EARTH did they stuff Doris Day into this bottle!? This is the epitome of her, most of her IN her movies, and Carmel-by-the-Sea. This isn't OLD or vintage smelling, no no no, don't get me wrong. This is the inner peace, joy, an absolute feeling of everything is perfect in this world of her movies. It's the hazy fluffy golden hair that makes an aura around her "my mommy loves me" smiling face. It's a woman's smell, a mom that is perfect smell, pink silken quilted robes, air that has no pollution. As a matter of fact, in this "world" of Doris, there isn't even a factory to MAKE pollution. I wonder if she'd even LIKE this scent in her real life! But in MY world, it IS her. I love her and what her movies do to me. I love what this scent is and what it does to me. For others not floating on the same cloud as me, I think will still like this a lot. I don't see how they couldn't. It's very feminine, it lasts and seems to renew itself even. Like one review mentioned, it seems to get stronger! The packaging is so pretty, if I were rich, I'd buy several bottle just to decorate with! One in each bathroom, in spare bedrooms for guests, on tables at the pool. This also is a fantasy, I have no pool! But you can see what this scent means to ME. Keep posting, I enjoy reading what others have to say. This is for anyone, at any age, in any world! And know, that if you wear this...I think you smell divine darling!

Just a quick update after I have been using this all summer - please continue to read the remaining review though as it may also be helpful. This perfume has lasting power like I have NEVER seen. I tell you this goes a full 24 hours and then some. I sprayed on a shirt and the next day tossed the top into the laundry and it STILL was going strong. For me loving this fragrance that is a good thing. Whatever this perfumery is using or doing I wish other fragrance makers could take note! I have not read any reviews as to taint my own opinion . I just received my bottle of Beachy and I am quite impressed. I am not familiar with this brand of perfume. I was hoping that Beachy would live up to it's name. A nice summer scent - and guess what? It did! It was love at first sniff for me with beachy. A gorgeous summery scent similar to suntan lotion. After a few hours I can still smell this beautiful scent on my arm. It transformed though into something even nicer. The initial suntan lotion smell has gone leaving a warmer more gorgeous scent. All in all I am in love with this. I hear it can be found for a song at Marshalls - if you find it stock up. As for lasting power Beachy has it. I continue to smell it as the day progresses, oddly the scent becomes stronger or more noticeable. This does not happen often with any other fragrance I own.

Opening is shades of Creed Spring Flower, very soft, clean, and floral, with a peach- tinged jasmine, night blooming white flowers, plus ozonic and salty -- but its genius is avoiding altogether a loud and shrill factor of Spring Flower. When the temperature outside is cooler, Beachy remains a lilting floral-marine, beautiful, delicate, and dries down to a woody-patchouli richness, and produces a surprising depth Spring Flower lacks. The first time I ever applied Beachy I caught the distinctive whiff of carnation/clove, but have since been unable to replicate the note after a week of testing. Perhaps it's because of the rising summer temperatures. As temperatures soared this week, the perfume produced a dry and sugary Baby Powder note that worked well with the woody base but rendered it completely different from the soft white floral marine/carnation it was. And makes me wonder if I understood Beachy at all. A couple of spritzes last eight hours. A morning shower the day after applying will enable you to relive it.

THIS. IS. EXQUISITE. I love all scents inspired by summertime, the beach and the tropics. I was aware of the Lilly Pulitzer fragrances back when they were released but I never sampled them until I received one of Beachy in a recent swap. Now I am in love! It is one of my all time favorites for warm weather. It really smells like summer! I can't even fully describe the scent. It's just a subtly sexy tropical floral with strong emphasis on the tiare. It reminds me of Kate Spade Live Colorfully but stronger and it also reminds me of Estee Bronze Goddess but without the coconut note. I have very dry skin but somehow Beachy manages to leave a noticeable dry-down. I sprayed it on this morning at 9AM and at nearly 6PM I can still smell traces of it. Beachy is just simply delicious and yummy. It is a MUST HAVE for those that enjoy the scent of summer.
