Musk

I have bought and consumed all the works of the brand Lorenzo Vilorsi. To be fair, Lorenzo Vilorsi is a full-fledged master in terms of the quality and clarity of his notes and his unique artistic style. Lorenzo Vilorsi's musk was not my favorite work, while Donna, for example, although it is more feminine, was my sleep perfume for several years and was a kind of perfume to cure my depression.But tonight, when the temperature in Tehran was minus 8 degrees, I realized how much the cold has a great effect on the manifestation and expression of the deep beauty of Lorenzo Villorsi's musk. The excellent quality and clarity of the notes, which have always been a distinctive feature of Lorenzo Villorsi's works, reached their peak in this work despite the extreme cold, while I always thought that this was a perfume for spring and autumn or mild winters! But now I realized that I was wrong. Interestingly, the performance of the work has also improved a lot and while I used to spray myself with about 15 puffs in the spring, today I enjoyed it all day with only five puffs and tonight I have been enjoying the smell of rose and musk with only three puffs for hours. The rose here is very close to the Iranian rose and even the Kandahar rose in Andy Tauer's work. Iranians are almost averse to roses due to the traditional use of roses in religious ceremonies and funerals, but Lorenzo's musk, with its combination of rose, white musk, and sandalwood, along with amber and geranium, has created a different masterpiece that, to me, has nothing at all to do with the smell of traditional Iranian rose water, although its rose is similar to the Iranian roses found in desert cities.I think this perfume is completely unisex and can be worn in formal and everyday situations with a variety of outfits. A peaceful fragrance that I don't think will bother anyone. Just please don't wear it in the hot season because you'll waste your perfume, and wear it at least once in extreme cold and then maybe, like me, you'll notice the depth of its difference from the fall and spring seasons. Finally, I'd like to say that more than most of the perfumes I've had (and there are many), different social personalities have been attracted to it and have loved it equally. I've seen almost no negatives. Furthermore I think it's also great for romantic dates.

This is a musk game changer. I suspected for awhile that I would love this Lorenzo Villoresi creation and I do. A Fragrantica swap partner was kind enough to send me a small decant, and after my maiden voyage with the scent, I have pulled the trigger on a 50 ml bottle. On my skin, this is an all-season geranium musk. Rose is in the mix but it’s the citrus aspect of the geranium and bergamot that makes this a unique combination. Andy the Frenchy does a great job describing the overall scent profile, so I’d rather not repeat. I will extrapolate on the unusual sour note; it’s here and I think it’s a combination of the geranium, musk and galbanum. The sourness is really pleasant, and this might sound like a diss—and I don’t mean it to be—but it makes up the animalic part with a very slight urine profile. That’s may sound weird but it’s primal and lovely. Sandalwood helps balance the composition and it stays north of the gross stuff. I have tried to keep my collection around 200 bottles, an obscene number that I will not get through in this lifetime because I’m currently in a “sample everything” mindset. Everyday I want to try something new, but rarely do I come across something that I feel is new. This week I’ve already added two “new-to-me” perfumes after going weeks without feeling like I wanted to add anything additional. And that’s basically why I love this hobby, I’m continually surprised, and sometimes it’s in the most unsuspecting way. And this time it’s with a perfume that has been on the market for 25+ years.

Let me start by saying when I first sniffed it I did not like it at all. It appeared loud and jarring to me like an OTT moment of an Italian opera (not an opera fan here). One year later I found a sample in my bathroom cabinet and tested it again and again and again: NOW I AM OBSESSED AND CONSIDER IT A TRUE MASTERPIECE. I have already reviewed some other rose based scents, so I consider this in strong competition with Frederic Malle's "Une Rose"/ "Lipstick Rose", Czech & Speake "Dark Rose", Bond #9 "West Side", Louis Azzaro's "Acteur" and Amouage "Lyric" to name my favourite rose base scents. Now technically this is primarily a musk fragrance (and it certainly oozes very sensual musk) but I also find it is very heavy on the rose and it is that "arm-wrestling" of its musk and that rich, dark, oily, woody, overripe rose, that makes this composition so round and smooth and wonderful. Truly well blended as it is precisely positioned in the centre: neither too old-fashioned (although there is that old skool glimpse), nor too modern, neither too sharp, nor too sweet, neither too gourmand (lovely edible vanilla, almost cocoa note). Think of fusing Tom Ford's "Tobacco Vanille" with Frederic Malle's "Une Rose" and add heaps of creamy musk = THIS. 100% unisex. Longevity is also very good for an EdT. Only let down? Availability: as it is a (super) niche fragrance, one has to get it online or a niche perfumery. But at least you will be wearing quality at an honest price that very few people will know or wear.

This is like holy grail musk to me. I get mostly musk, sandalwood and rose. The musk is fantastic, it isn't animalic at all to me. More like a sexy warm skin scent like a top quality musk oil. The sandalwood is that really smooth kind, not overwhelming and just seems to wear like warm silk. It isn't "figgy" at all like some sandalwood can be (Santal Blush, Sacred Wood). To me it is much more on the order of the sandalwood in Bois des Iles (just the sandalwood part, this doesn't have aldehydes and is very different from Bois des Iles...it just has that luxurious smooth type of sandalwood). The rose is dark and dewy and very present. The interesting thing about Villoresi Musk is that each of the main notes take turns being dominant each time you wear it. Sometimes it smells like mostly sandalwood. Other times mostly rose. Then still at other times it smells almost like a pure musk oil. It really is a chameleon of a scent and seems almost the scent equivalent of a mood ring. As a life long musk fan I have to say this is one of my favorites of all. Just something about it that makes me a little crazy. Completely unisex and seems suitable for just about any occasion but has a really casual and earthy feel to it. But still a bit mysterious and a whole lot sexy. I want a gigantic bottle of this badly.

What a pretty rose and geranium perfume. It could be unisex depending on if the man is a rose lover. There is a lot of musk here in the base, a white musk that I really love. It's clean but not starkly clean. Creamy sandalwood, slight vanillic undertones but this perfume never becomes "sweet' like many rose fragrances on the market today. What I get out of this perfume the most is this amazing rose. Gorgeous red roses everywhere, spicy, rosy and rich. I could bath in this stuff. This is rose heaven. My husband is smelling this now and wants it for himself LOL. I will be getting a big bottle of this so he and I can share. If you are a rose lover do not miss out on this fantastic rose perfume. Dries down to an absolutely beautiful sandalwood. Reminds me of the sandalwood in Jean Patou's L'Huere Attendue Heritage Collection. I own 2 from this brand that I blind bought on a hunch. They were Alamut and Teint de Niche. I was not wrong to blind buy them. They are magnificent as this one is as well. I think most anything from this wonderful brand would be an easy blind buy for anyone that love classically crafted perfumes. Teint de Neige by Villoresi is my signature fragrance, so after some time I decided to try another of his creations and managed to get a sample of Musk EdT. So far, after one spritz on a paper strip and on my skin, the scent reminds me of... and I guess this is going to sound kind of odd... but it really reminds me of Candy by Prada, especially in the drydown. I can't wrap my head around it, but this is how my nose has been perceiving the scent so far. The musk element is definitely there, and aside from that I can also smell something sweet, creamy and buttery, maybe slightly nutty, just like it is in the case of Candy. I don't know if somebody has a similar experience, but I can't help myself. By that being said - I like Villoresi's Musk. Despite the similarity to Candy, this is more intense and more "polished, refined". Also, even though the drydown may remind me of Candy, the opening is definitely different - more woody and spicy, with certain oily twist to it. Still, very nice. :) It's like a sophisticated, adult version of baby powder, with a certain spicy twist to it. Overall it smells very clean and even slightly "serious". :)

Fresh (bergamot and geranium) / spicy (black pepper, cinnamon and cloves) / powdery (vanillic benzoin, aka amber) rose over a musk base (with light animalic undertones) and some sour woods underneath, before the vanilla takes the lead. Although musk is a clear component of the blend, here bulgarian rose and spices (it's LV, so what did you expect?) are the star of the show from top to base. Loving rose is a requirement to appreciate this one, but it never becomes jammy, and the 'rosyness/sweetness' is counter-balanced by the spices, keeping it totally unisex. Projection and longevity are below average on my skin. I didn't know what to expect when blind-buying this one, but I can only confirm the positive feelings that I could read from a couple of reviewers. Very dandy-esque indeed, and probably one that fanboys of the usual Bleu de Chanel and other Layton might want to stay clear from. As far as I'm concerned, I will sum-up my thoughts by stating that if one needs only one rose-centric fragrance, this is the one, and I'm not sure how I could have ignored this one until now. A love for me. Spring/Fall days, 30+.

My favourite musks usally are sandalwood dominant as it makes the musk really creamy. Same with my favourte sandalwood fragrances. If they don't contain musk it's just a shame. The two notes are heaven when combined and done right. Lorenzo musk is one of those creamy musky sandalwoods. Really sensual, sexy , woody , musky and yes, rosy ! Similar scents would be Santal Blush , Tam Dao and even Bois de iles. This is lighter and smoother and easy to wear compared to the above mentioned. I can easily imagine this on a man ,it is very neutral and takes no gender , It's a woody , musky floral , with emphasis on wood and musk. Like christiane1 mentioned it can take a different face thought the weartime , the musk can be dominant at times and other moments the rose pops out and sometimes it's almost strait forward sandalwood , could be moods , situations, hormones , morning or evenings ,,,, cold days warm days ,,, but it's really neat , maybe it simply speaks your mood ? But again what I like best about this fragrance is the creamy effect that it leaves after it develops on your skin.

Musk is one of the most gorgeous clean musks I have ever smelled. Actually, it reminded me very much of Teint de Neige because it's powdery and floral, but it is not the powder bomb of Teint de Neige and instead seems more balsamic or waxy. But the two perfumes seem clearly related. This musk is sweetened by vanilla. The sandalwood is unmistakable and is to die for! It's like he took a clean, white, Jovan-style musk and enriched it with velvety rose petals and generous dose of silky sandalwood. So it's darker than a white musk, but it's still not dark like For Her nor is it raunchy and sex-tinged like Muscs Kublai Khan. At first it's nice, a powdery rose with a clean musk, but as it comes alive on the skin it takes on an irresistible creaminess that just makes me feel spoiled. I love this Musk because I don't appreciate that coconutty play on sandalwood, and Musk definitely is not coconutty or figgy. I expected to like Musk, but I didn't expect it to blow me away like this. It was a blind buy, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. It did not disappoint! Highly recommended.

I had to re-rate it because I came back falling in love with this magical potion. I smell a lot more Rose after using it a few times. On the bottle, it smell like rosewater, the first minutes it is a little sour with powdery scent and a light hint of cardamom pod. It dries down into a fresh bloom bunch of roses, light floral aroma, soft, gentle, perfectly unisex. After a few hours, I can smell mild creamy vanilla, sweet but not too sweet, like a half teaspoon of sugar in a cup of coffee. Perfectly balanced, not loud or overpowering. Sillage: Within Armlength then slowly turn intimate. Longevity: After 10 hours, I can smell the vanilla on my wrist if I put my nose close to it. Totally Unisex: this is a ying and yang, the shadow and the light, perfectly balanced masculinity and femininity. Price: I thought it was overpriced when I first spray it cause it smell simple at home. Until I wear it a few times to work and out, I fell in love and appreciate this very much. It actually is a good value for the quality.

Completely different take on this perhaps the most classic note of them all. In Lorenzo's rendition we get a sweet, slightly powdery musk with a lovely, mellow rose heart. Like many Villoresis it is quite creamy and the woody base makes it very safe for masculine wear, although there is nothing overtly feminine about the fragrance at all. Musk is in my honest opinion one of LV`s finest and a great example (just like his colonia) of the way he flawlessly has updated many of the darlings of the perfumery-world. Starts out with a strong floral scent that is not overpoweringly sweet because of the creamy musk base. The scent fades into a warm inviting scent that is a must have. The best part is that it is lasting. Only two very very small daps on my wrist lasted over six hours noticeably and it is wonderful. Another winner from Lorezon Villoresi! I couldn't get over how beautiful and clean this scent is.

I feel like I have found what has long eluded me in Villoresi, a rose musk that is neither too musky nor too rosy, a great synergy happening here I've found in few fragrances (perhaps the now sadly discontinued Van Cleef & Arpels Pour Homme with its rose and leather). The more I examine it on my skin, the more it moved toward masterpiece territory, its just so mesmerizing and dreamy to my nose. My nose also detects geranium supporting the rose and a sheer dose of linalool (the rosewood?) softening and soothing, rounding it all off, and as it dries, a couple hours in, sandalwood crossfades with waning rose and what is left is a creamy, somewhat powdery skin scent with phantom wafts of rose. A true delight. Cobalt blue was an excellent choice of color for the bottle, this somewhat smells like cobalt blue looks like...

On my 4th bottle. It is truly exquisite. Bitter herbaceous galbalnum blended beautifully with roses, sandalwood and clean musk. When I was beginner it smells just like a rosy powdery fragrance, but overtime as my collection grows, it is actually more of a bitter galbalnum, musky, rosy sandalwood scent but the combination of these are so well blended that it is giving off mainly powdery vibes, while in detail it is more than that. This scent suits anywhere, and anytime. It is sophisticated without being too classy, and announcing. The musk and sandalwood are not dirty or vulgar. It is clean but not as a detergent smell. It is fresh rosewater with clean musk. The drydown as skin scent has a soft creamy sweet sandalwood/vanilla which is also pretty.

Powdery musk, with some dirty and woody undertone. Mainly geranium with powder - I think I smell rose, but maybe I'm biased because of reviews. Very dated and feminine leaning, very ladylike, and it's good and smells like quality and good old times. Maybe the effort to find some kind of barbershop or masculine profile here is because guys want to wear Brad Pitt's signature scent better than Veronica Lake's. ps.: it's not a world away from Akro's Night, being that focused on the dirty side of this profile (cumin, mainly, is what differs - the presence or the amount of it).

The scent I ordered online during the very first Covid lockdown back in March 2020 with the sole purpose to use it at home and to induce the feeling that everything is ok. This says a lot. Feels like some simple rosewater with a backbone of sandalwood and some ancient musk, invented long before the cosmetic industry. But what a stunning simplicity that is, like, coming from another world of innocence where fairies live. Also, geranium, it subconsciously reminds me of my mother's balcony. And that's it.

Got a 5ml decant of this, and am really digging it. Smells like some of the other rose note fragrances I've tried, though this doesn't smell bubble-bath-y like them. This smells fresh, clean, and unisex, and has good longevity for my taste. I could smell where I was when I left the room and came back, but it's by no means overpowering. I like it for warm weather, but I'll have to see if it is strong enough to last in the cold months. If I finish this decant, will probably get a full bottle!

One of my most favourite scents. I wear this so much as it just makes me feel really good. So uplifting it brings me peace and happiness. Sometime I even put it on before bed as it relaxes me. I wouldn’t like to try to describe it as it would spoil it. I’ve never smelled anything quite like it, to me it’s just quite simply glorious.

I'm a fan of musky scents but this one is so increadibly powerful I wouldn't be able to wear it to go to work. Funny to hear Brad Pitt uses it because it's my mother 's favourite perfume and she is 75 years old! I bought her a bottle for mothersday (which we celebrate on August 15th over here!) she will love it!

This was a blind purchase of mine that, at first, was just meh; not bad but not a love. I’ve been wearing it at night to sleep in and every time I put it on it makes me smile, so I feel like it’s turned into a love! It’s so comforting, powdery rose and musk. It really does grow on you!

It is a very nice body scent it is a simple but beautiful scent for a married man who wants to smell nice to his loved ones it has everything in it calmness and peace The notes are more pronounced on the textile warm and slightly creamy on the skin like a blanket

Plenty of spice (especially cloves) and rose, with a warm, radiating musk base. Outstanding. Longevity is 7-8 hours. Sillage starts strong, then stays above average. Even after the 8 hour mark you can sense it is still there.

One of the greatest musks ever, well blended and very attractive! Highly recommended for musk lovers. Musky slightly animalic, a bit rosy, creamy and powdery!!! Excellent!

Does anyone else think this smells like vintage Jean Naté Concentrated Cologne only made with higher quality materials? This is a compliment as I love the old Jean Naté.

If you don’t have this one, then you don’t have a legitimate fragrance collection. This performs like an EDP and the whole note profile is absurdly perfect.

Reminds me of SL's Sa Majeste La Rose

I received a bunch of villoresi samples recently and being a musk lover,this one was the first one I tried.I had high hopes as I know this house by Teint de neige which is among my top favorites but LV musk dissapointed me when first applied.I like sandalwood when it sits in the back seat,playing as a supporter but I dislike dominant sandalwood.LV musk opens with a strong sandalwood blended with some sharp notes,geranium is the only one I can pickup among these sharp notes which I don't care for.it's opening phase is totally unisex and not something I'd really like but this perfume has a lot more to say.after about ten minutes musk and rose show up and send sandalwood to the back seat,where I prefer to see it.it becomes better and better as time passes.on my skin it's a gorgeous powdery Musky rose,rounded by sandalwood and vanilla cream and there's just a hint of amber and oak moss to make it deep and sophisticated.I can't pickup other notes and don't really miss them.it's a beautiful musky-rose-sandalwood scent which leans more towards feminity(except it's first ten minutes).I like it but I'm not planning to buy a bottle as it's sandalwood is still a bit strong for me(I prefer my musky florals to be less woody).also it's not a cheap perfume and I ha already many perfumes in this genre(musky rosey). Lots to smell with this one. It opens with a very strong floral baby powder smell. At first you may think it's a little too overpowering but within a couple of minutes it drops to an elegant rose. At this point you can close your eyes and smell the rich floral aromas mixing with the rose. Within an hour it settles into a musky vanilla but with the baby powder fragrance and light rose holding it all together. Hard to put into words (can you tell I'm still new to this?) but this does smell very classy. One thing I'm pleased with is that it's classed as a unisex scent. 30 years ago when I was buying fragrances it was a given that a mans scent was woody and manly, and a womans was floral and feminine. It's good that we've moved on and that people are mature enough to wear what they like; and don't have too rely on a label or advertising campaign telling them what crowd to follow. Lorenzo Villoresi Musk came out 25 years ago, was it groundbreaking at the time? Maybe this is just the way it's always been with good quality perfumes. Longevity is good, about 8 hours with 2 sprays to the neck. Sillage is moderate.

Sweet clean musk-old-fashioned roses and something vibrant-a clean but sexy musk, that does have something of a potpourri touch to it. But it doesn't smell too soapy to me, which is a very good thing when it comes to musk. I can imagine Brad Pitt would smell like this-and it's a sexy scent, as good a musk as Brad is an actor but not really my type-just as Pitt doesn't do it for me. Fabulous balance-but a little bit less sweet (less vanilla maybe?) and this would be perfect. If I could have a bottle, I would most certainly use it-it's elegant sillage and skin all at once in a bottle-but I would be tempted to layer this with something more dry or crisp-and that would be very wasteful for the price AND individuality of this creation. Musk isn't a creation that drops jaws but it is a fragrance that parts lips.

Powdery musk. Not bad but not great. Nice enough, but smelling up close the opening has a slight "wet dog" smell. I suspect it is due to the musk combining with the Galbanum note. Very reserved performance. The rose and floral accord in general is quite subdued. Not an 11 O'clock rose at all. Rose should NOT be listed as the most prominent accord at the top of the accord stack, as it is on this page. Not accurate. There is a bit of sweetness from the vanilla. This does not smell much like Acqua di Parma Blu Mediterraneo Ginepro di Sardegna. I can't believe that 10 people actually voted on a similarity between the two. I'm a big fan of the discontinued Ginepro di Sardegna, and have several bottles of it. At any rate, Lorenzo Villorsi's Musk is OK, but I'm sure Brad Pitt likes it more than I do.

Unbelieveble. I went to a perfumery where I blind sniffed and bought this one. Didn't know its name, didn't know when it was launched. It was love at first sight, because I caught some notes that just capture my attention by default - vanilla, musk, sandalwood. I remembered the name, but forgot the face behind the work of it. It was such a surprise to see in fragrantica, that it actually looks like this! Kind of archaic and not what I like from seeing such a bottle. Always refer it to heavy and unpleasant fragrances for mature women, but this one is just amazing and totally far away from all my fears! <3 Edit: now i see it's unisex O.o really? And I established resemblances with YSL's Manifesto :)

Mine arrived today. First spray...Whoa, baby powder with Sandalwood oil and slightly sharp. My family cringed and said: You cannot wear this, wash it off. Naturally, I ignored them ;) After 20-30 mins though, this musk morphed into a super soft, warm skin scent and the family stopped complaining and said it now smells "ok" :) I really like this fragrance. It is not magical, or life changing but it smells unique and comforting (baby powder, clean diapers and fresh skin). Sillage is decent and longevity seems to be 2-4 hours. I am glad I bought it, I will finish it...but do not know if I will buy again. Let's see in about 6 months!

Wonderful. It smells ancient and modern at the same time. I agree it has a powdery note, but this is NOT baby powder, it's something much more sophisticated, that belongs to the past, like expensive face powder of the twenties... could it be the violet note. It is a powdery floral, with a depth that I never experienced in other powdery florals. Geranium, rose, and a soft base o amber and polite, clean musk. Good lasting power. Sophisticated, classy, refined. Spreads that styled tranquility of a upperclass-cashmere-dressed lady. Very, very unique. I love it!

Creamy rose sandalwood vanilla and musk combo. On me, sandalwood is the most prominent. In fact, this perfume is more 'sandalwood' than 'musk' to me. As a big fan of creamy sandalwood fragrances, I personally wear it at home as a comfort scent in the evening, but I can imagine this would work beautifully for elegant men over 35 during the daytime too. I read it somewhere that Brad Pitt used to wear it. I once smelled it on a well-dressed Italian gentleman at a Cirque du Soleil show. I found it quite fitting for an artistic evening event.

I think it is a heavy floral scent with medium muskyness, and some slight spicyness to it. Musk is the name of the fragrance, but in my opinion "Rose Musk" would be more appropiate. In the drydown the vanilla and amber is more dominant, giving the composition some sweetness. It is more on the feminine side, but I can imagine wearing this for a romantic evening, or a day when I am in a bright, poetic mood. I think Lorenzo Villoresi blended this in a more traditional manner. Sample before buy. I like it.

As someone who does not like most musk based perfumes, I have to admit that I was very surprised by Lorenzo Villoresi creation. It indeed is a marvelous musky perfume - sour bulgarian rose with ultra clean musk. Not too feminine, easily could be worn by male also despite the floral overload. It stayed close to skin and I find it to be very elegant and sexual. Longevity on me was mediocre, around 5 hours.

I love the drydown on this fragrance. A masculine, almost white musk, with some minty freshness from geranium. The sillage is quite close to the skin but wafts nicely. The opening is not my favorite because I'm not the biggest fan of prominent geranium in fragrances (in nature I love the flower).

This is a beautiful fragrance, dominated by musk and rose. None of the main notes are very strong, and there are other notes as well. All in all it is well blended and the rose-musk combo melts perfectly in human skin. I imagine this fragrance on a beautiful woman although it is labeled unisex.

First impression from a sample....The perfume took some time to open up and for the rose to come out but once it did this was lovely and kept getting better. As another's reviewer mentioned this would be lovely on a man which I tend to agree. I like the cardoman in this.

Old school barbershop scent. You either love it or you don't. Don't kid yourself with the note breakdown, the blend is good and all you pick up is that this is an old timey scent with vigor.

Musky rose with a creamy sandalwood in classical texture. nice soft and dreamy with calm feel. Quality ingredients.

This really should have been called rose musk. Simple and clean.

I'm sad to say there is not much musk or florals on me. It dries down to smell like a super light Teint de Neige because of the same exact vanilla that's used in that scent. And that's all I smell in the end. I purchased this in the winter and was disappointed with it then. I put it away to try it in another season and now that the weather is warm it's still very light and I'm still not getting much except a faint rose and vanilla in the dry down. Honestly, because of that vanilla, this scent reminds me so much of Teint, (minus the powder bomb), that I consider this redundant in my wardrobe. I guess if you like the vanilla in Teint but hate the powder, this might be a better alternative. But for me, there has to be something more than just that.

Without being influenced by looking at the notes...what I got when I first smelled this was a rose-dominant musk with a vanilla or amber-like sweetness that takes over the rose in the late drydown. Personally, I wouldn't describe the musk here as a clean or dirty musk...it's somewhere in-between. It does remind me of Dove soap...not 100% like it but definitely has similar aroma. This fragrance also reminds me of Amouage Lyric Man quite a bit. You could even say this is a relatively cheaper alternative even though it's not a cheap buy in isolation. I can't say that it is not a quality scent - I would sample first, which is what I did...and also prepare your mind that you have to like more floral-based scents if you choose this musk.

Part of my sample lucky dip project. Rosy musk, very simple, skank free, pretty but other fragrances do the same thing better. When I want floral, rosy musk I’ll stick to Avon Soft Musk that cost just £5.

Outdated, very similar to Knize Ten, but less bitter. It's got an old grandpa vibe, so instead of classic, I would just call it outdated. Might be really good for masculine 60+ men

Geranium rose powdery delicate vanilla almond sandalwood soapy musk I’ve long had the suspicious that fluffy sweet and powdery is the scent profile a large percentage of men secretly want to smell like even if they publicly renounce it. If you look at all of the classic supposed quintessential masculine fragrances alla mid 1900s Guerlain, Caron pour in homme, countless powdery barbershop fragrances from the late 70s to early 90s end up smelling more like a backer’s pantry crossed with luxurious toiletries rather than anything truly rugged and outdoorsy. Oddly if you visit their related pages on this site you will ultimately find hundreds of reviews claiming that said fragrances are ultra masculine powerhouses, in no way or form related to the gender blending of today’s generation. Simultaneously truly rough vegetal leathery green animalic woody fougeres alla Yatagan have slowly disappeared from the olfactory collective. Lorenzo Villoresi seemed to know about this phenomenon already in the late 90s and created a barbershop musk with everything sweet and delicate available in the perfumer’s organ, a tender geranium rose accord hidden behind a powdery sugary almond heliotropin based veil and an ultra tender vanilla tonka amber base with a good dose of floral musks. In its core you find a hefty dose of sandalwood, creamy, smooth and supple. The end result: the most dandy barbershop musk I have come across. An intimate and tender embrace with a clean and soapy finish. However he presents it in his very sterile and ‘boyish’ dark blue bottle, same as his much more abrasive citrus woody smoky scents, almost like a way to say “don’t worry, give it a try, this is also for you..” Personally, I find the blend of soft delicate rose, lush vanilla almond amber and dense woody soapy clean musk quite addictive in a simple pleasure type of way. High recommended ultimately to both genders. I much prefer this more sincere feeling side of Villoresi to his edgier creations.

Nostalgia Blue: Lorenzo Villoresi's Musk (1995) Why would Brad Pitt lie about wearing this Grandma Musk? Because this is quintessential Grandma Musk. Powdery, Dry, redolescent of musky Talcum and more clean musks. Amidst all of this; a rose. A Pink Rose, not elegant nor mysterious, but dusty, spicy-rosy, eerily familiar and nostalgic of a different era. These musky roses pervaded lower and middle class closets at some point when I was the size of a small penguin. It was mostly women who reeked of it, but also the toddlers that clung to their lehengas. Children didn't really have their own perfumes or talcum powders in those days, they wore what their parents wore. And Musk was big with the adults. This musky powdery rose was everywhere from the powder we used to smoothen our carrom boards to the powder that our mothers slapped onto our faces before they flung us into the school rickshaw already teeming with more powdered faces and 'Aanjans', some inexplicable black outlines (sometimes a dot) around their eyes that was meant to keep them from falling prey to evil eyes. The kind of Musky Rosiness that parlour aunties would come to be identified with. Those are the times Villoresi's Musk reminds me of. It may not be one that the contemporary populace would readily reach out for, certainly won't be one topping any sales charts or being featured in influencers' Top Rose Fragrances or Favourite Musks.. but for someone like me, it is a scent that brims with nostalgia and carries me to times where all things painful and agonizing could be cured with the promise of a piece of chocolate or a silly cartoon on TV. Times haven't changed much. Squealing in tears is replaced by a deep, humming melancholy; Alpenliebe toffees are replaced by Perfume. But the question still remains: what could've gone so terribly wrong that Brad Pitt had to prance around in this Musk? I call cap. ~ bigbusynose

To begin, I think the name is misleading because to me, this is more than a standard issue musk scent. Ignoring the list of notes presented here, I primarily sense a fresh rose, joined by blur of soft flowers of unknown provenance, sandalwood and a clever replication of tonkin musk. The musk is unusual in that it's neither overtly animalic nor reminiscent of fresh laundry, but instead smells like skin, warmed by an afternoon in the sun. Dare I say it's sexy as h**l. Knowing that Mysore is in short supply, I’m truly impressed by how this smells like genuine Indian sandalwood but probably isn’t. Superbly blended with no jarring transitions throughout its evolution on skin. Smooth and truly lovely work. Signature scent worthy and my all time favorite musk. One of the few scents I’d rush to save if the house was on fire and I had to leave in a hurry! Edit: This lasts on skin a good 10-12 hours, although it's very close to the skin, and at this point, it's mostly a creamy, slightly powdery sandalwood (no high-pitched, screechy woody ambers to ruin the fun). Those experiencing issues with longevity have simply become anosmic because it's quite tenacious.
