Heliotrope Blanc

[AUGUST 2023] Was not expecting its inner seal to be metallic copper with tiny frills at the end of its design (much like a vintage sody pop), certainly you could hurt your fingers getting it off! Luckily, there were pliers at the garage and I took them right off safely. You would not twist it off, more than pry them off... Much like a vintage soda pop. Grievances aside-- Heliotrope Blanc comes with a beautiful cake-like sweetness to its almond-heliotrope accord with a hint of soapiness not alhydelic but similar to organic oils. ...Yet the perfume's consistency is watery, so best to tightly seal the cap shut to keep it from leaking. It applies a generous amount to your skin at the beginning. It has a powderiness similar to that found in many vintage pre-1930s fragrances, including that which I've tested in Roger & Gallet's Fleurs d' Amour and Santa Maria Novella's L'Iris EDP (which is a very accurate new fragrance capturing the discrepancies of a Belle Epoque parfum.) The fragrance while short lived, if applied conservatively, wafts around you with a cake batter like sweetness, but not to the carrot cake intensity of Miller Harris' Violet Ida (highly recommended for gourmand and vintage lovers.) In my case, since the bottle seeped itself quite liberally in comparison to my Roger & Gallet perfume, could be smelled from afar if I pulled my head back away from my chest and arms. I recommend layering this fragrance with other vintage or vintage-inspired fragrances to give a Belle Epoque cherry milk-almond-heliotrope-cake lilt to your parfums. Reminds me of a light roulade, whereas Violet Ida by Miller Harris is a much more indepth take of heliotrope with violet powder undertones which resembles a slice of carrot cake, not unlike Heliotrope Blanc. My favourite combination thus far is Heliotrope Blanc (wrists, sides of neck) + Santa Maria Novella's L'Iris (under neck) + Floris' Chypress (below chest.) Also yes, I own more fragrances than I show on my Fragrantica page, but for minimalist and recommendation's sake I only leave presented what I want others to try and have. Overall, a light, languid and enjoyable slice of life... or a piece of cake for those whose skin amplifies balsams. PS: I find Heliotrope Blanc much better than Buly 1803's Heliotrope du Perou, the latter just smells watery. Heliotrope Blanc smells like Heliotrope, as described, indeed.

I got a 14.25 ounce of Heliotrope Blanc for $20 and change. When I read the article here that Elena Knezevic used this to sterilize things in her home w/ etc.. I thought it would make and excellent hand sanitizer. I've been on a heliotrope/powder/musk kick lately and all my hand sanitizers are either fruity or lavender. This will make a nice addition. That being said this a very, very heavy w/ almond. It smells almost like almond extract that I bake w/ at least in the beginning. As the fragrance goes along it becomes more vanillic w/ a slight yellow floral vibe, an ylang custard vibe. This is very cuddly, softly powdery, lightly sweet almond like fragrance that is very likable. I have never smelled heliotropes before, something that saddens me since I pride myself on knowing what flowers smell like in nature since I smelled so many growing up. Heliotrope just wasn't something we grew on the farm. But I have heard that heliotrope is sometimes called cherry pie as a nick name, and I can see why. Elena said this perfume lotion was the best representation of the living flower she has ever smelled and to my nose I can smell cherry pie like nuances in this. Gosh this smells like purple cherry pie made into a powder LOL. Just upgraded to Love. One thing I do hate is the bottle, hard to open but the fragrance is just divine. I decant it into other spray bottles. I use this as a perfume and a hand sanitizer. You can spray as much of it as you want anywhere. I've used it to clean tables at restaurants. It is just nice to carry around in a purse. Smells great and cleans and sanitizes.

This was a blind buy. Just goes to show that no matter how safe a fragrance seems, there's always the chance that it will shock you. The coumarin in Heliotrope Blanc reminds me very much of Kiehl's Vanille & Cedarwood. It's a soft powdery whisper on my skin. However, the addition of almond and some faint florals makes the opening of this smell EXACTLY like Porto-potty deodorant with my skin chemistry. I am so not okay with this association. This is coming from someone who wears Hypnotic Poison and Etro's Heliotrope without reservation. Not almond hand soap, but straight porto-potty/outhouse!! Oh dear. Hopefully I can retrain myself to forget it and forge some new ideas about this scent. I want to focus on Heliotrope Blanc for what it is, not what it's like. Perhaps this will prepare anyone who might recoil in horror at my findings. It is important to represent the full spectrum of experiences on here. My bf loves this one, so what the hell do I know... Update: After wearing this on and off for a few weeks, I am happy to report that Heliotrope Blanc has somewhat grown on me, and no longer screams plastic outhouse when I first apply it. Now it speaks softly of shimmery powder with a polite suggestion of jasmine. Still don't love it though. I let my sister smell it and her reaction was, "why would anyone want to smell like that!?"

Absolute almond heaven! I love that it doesn't smell artificial. I use it before bed, but it's actually got a good longevity for a lotion, so I'm going to put some in a nice glass spray bottle and use this as a proper fragrance too. I can't wait to spray this all over my body and clothes in the summer! I love it during fall & winter too because it's so cozy and warm. Just makes you want to sit my the fire with a chai latte. It's really high quality, well blended, beautiful almond, quite sweet but not sickly. I love that there's a vintage vibe to it, but I can see a modern girl wearing this too. I personally love vintage. Soft, creamy, milky. I can't think of a more cozy and wholesome fragrance. The price is unbeatable. I just ordered a back up of the huge bottle. This is definitely one of my all time fave fragrances. It's not a beast like my other faves (Boucheron, D&G red cap), but it's one of the very few sweet and cozy fragrance that makes the top shelf in my house, because I don't like modern fragrances and this hits that sweet spot (no pun intended) of an almond perfume that isn't candy-modern.

I bought quite cheaply all the old Piver's fragrances I could find, out of curiosity and also as an attempt to find good 'nostalgia' fragrances (i.e. recreations/reissues of old formulae). The bottle is charming and it does have a vintage feel to it, with an old fashioned plastic cap and simple packaging. It is called 'lotion' in French, which is sometimes interpreted as eau de cologne strength, but I think it is much stronger, definitely EDT. Good sillage and about 12 hours staying power (albeit quite delicate in the end). This is probably the best of this range - it has a genuine, old fashioned 'vintage' look and feel, including the bottle and the little plastic screw on cap (the splash bottle is different from the photo above). It is solifleur with a bit of vanilla and slight powderiness. Quite feminine, but not too sweet - very wearable. As a man I would probably only wear this for my own enjoyment at home. It is not a modern fragrance, but it is rather ageless. I was surprised by the quality of this fragrance, especially that it cost less than 10 pounds (!).

Initially this smells like powdery heliotrope and floral but the dry down on me is a sweet almond vanilla scent. I didn’t think it lasted very long on me but sometimes after 8+ hours I’ll still get whiffs of it. I really love this fragrance. For optimal use you need to get a set of small atomizer bottles and funnels to decant it into. Just pouring some out straight from the splash bottle is way too wasteful. It’s also easy to toss a small atomizer bottle in your bag to reapply throughout the day. I love this fragrance and it’s so affordable and accessible. It’s very powdery and I do get a doll head scent but I enjoy that. I normally dress in a more Victorian style and this perfume being from 1850 helps me feel more like a Victorian lady. This fragrance is super underrated, I never really see anyone talking about it online. I hope they never stop making it. Edit: after a little over a month this became my daily go to signature scent. It’s just very nice and pleasant and I love that it’s a historical formulation.

Starts out with strong almond flavouring/old lady's bathroom freshener. Soon dries down to sweet heliotrope and vanilla with some almond flour. Very comforting. Doesn't last terribly long but that's ok with the lotion concentration. Very sweet and comforting, almost edible gourmand. Good in winter, but this would be fine in warmer weather and not cloying. This makes me think of a young mother wearing a very, very soft, old, tshirt to bed and snuggling her little curly headed two year old close to her. It's that kind of a scent. Something a man would recognize as simply "smelling like his wife," without realizing that it was a perfume. I absolutely adore it. I don't usually describe scents as "snuggly," but this one is very snuggly. And so wonderfully priced! Sillage is moderate, but that's fine. It's something someone would associate with you, because that's what they smell when they hug you, not simply when they're in the room with you. 7/10

I bought the lotion and when I put it on I was given a cultural lesson in the differences between what an American thinks lotion is and what the French mean by it. It goes on as a clear liquid and is dry in seconds. It's actually a really awesome hand lotion and I think it's going to be a favorite. The heliotrope scent is clear, realistic, strong, and long-lasting. It's actually survived several hand washes because I just cooked breakfast. The bottle seal though. OK it does keep the perfume from spilling in shipment which is great. But, how hard it was to get open. That was me because I had a kitten related eye injury and couldn't focus enough to see it and figure out how it was supposed to work. Eventually I used my knife Sealbreaker for its purpose. I also got a free blood drop big enough to test my BGL with when I grasped the metal edge to pull it off. But I won't have to do that again for a while because it comes in a big bottle.

To add to my earlier rhapsodic review, as the LT Piver site says this scent is made,’...from natural essences, and painstakingly extracted from several hundred kilos of hand-picked petals...’ which is one of the reasons I never tire of this Heliotrope Blanc, it smells so delicious & real because it is natural. I always have Jasmine growing in my garden for it’s beautiful scent which is very apparent here. Beyond being utterly delicious I find when I spray one spray onto my pillow, I sleep like a happy baby, it’s so comforting & relaxing. My clothes are all sprayed with it daily too, as is my skin. It never palls, a continuous delight. It is soft & lullingly seductive, never screeching nor blaring like most modern scents one passes in the street on others & are instantly offensive, skunk loud, chemical, noxious clouds. What I smell from this scent: Heliotrope, almonds, marzipan, Jasmine, Vanilla = perfection.

Bought blind, it wasn’t an immediate coup de foudre but after an hour I fell in love. I won’t repeat what everyone else describes so well but I’ve got through an 1/8th of a 100ml bottle in five days because this scent is so beautiful, so natural smelling, so comforting and utterly delicious, I keep spraying everywhere I go, like a Tom cat with a weak bladder. LT Piver consists of 6 of people currently, December 2019, lets show our appreciation for their work and keep this beautiful 245 year old company & their sensational scents alive and prospering for future generations to enjoy. I know I will be buying more heliotrope Blanc the moment am half way through my first bottle. On my b/f it smells masculine, cooler, spicier, sexy. On me it’s lushly feminine, warm, sweet & comforting (am very fair, he’s olive skinned). Do all scents made with only pure, natural ingredients have this chameleon quality?

As good as I expected after blind buying as a result of reviews here (thank you, all!). And the bottle is so much prettier in person, a little Deco with the lines. I was a little confused by the metal closure over the opening and pried it off, hope that is the right thing to do. I wonder if I have any sprayers that will fit this bottle. For now, it is decanted into a small atomizer. Why is it called lotion? It this a French way of noting it is a splash, not a sprayer? Damebrunette, I am with you! I appreciate also knowing this is cruelty-free. Baby powder up front in the style of Guerlain L'Instant Magic, followed up by creamy banana, PlayDoh, and vanilla. Soft, gentle, comforting -- just what the world needs right now, and suitable for any gender. Waiting to see how long it lasts. I want to spritz it all over my pajamas and bed linens but don't want to relegate it to a sleep scent only.

Love it. Give it a try. For the price point, that's what, a cup of Java on the road and a muffin. It is a great everyday scent. Non offensive, very feminine. I think as the one gent replies, it would be great over a manly fragrance. For a wedding, nah, I don't think so. Nay a funeral. But everyday, running around, perfect. Except on those days when you need something with more of a punch. This I will always have 1, and a backup. Well, for as long as they make it. Really good to spray on pillows to help sleep. Like you know your guardian angel is right there watching over you. I think is one reason I like it, reminds me of one my grandmother wore. P.S. It is very similar to Etro Heliotrope, which I own, and love. On the same side of the store with Cara, but to me, it doesn't smell the same. Cara is great though too!

Soft, powdery almond-vanilla. The opening smells like the almond-essens you use in desserts - a bit boozy and artificial. But the dry down is a beautiful and soft. Nothing cheap or heavy. I’m wearing it today on a cool spring day at home with my daughter and it feels perfect. But you could where it year round for any occasion where you want to smell soft, clean and sweet. I was a bit hesitant to try a more than 170 year old perfume. But it doesn’t feel dated. It feels ageless. It reminds me of Esprit d’Oscar without the prominent violet-note. But I like this way more. Sillage is soft - but it is not a skin scent on me. And it actually has great longevity. It’s 9 hours since I put on a couple of daps from my bottle and I can still easily smell it without putting my nose to my wrist.

Such an amazing fragrance, definitely a lovely affordable hidden gem. Why aren't more people talking about this? I got a 421mL bottle for $20. After almost getting tetanus from trying to pry open the aluminum top, I decanted some into an atomizer. Tip, I took a screwdriver and poked a hole through the top, then peeled off the aluminum. Granted it's very light and soft, like a cologne but for the price you can douse yourself in it. The projection is very close to skin, but the sillage is actually pretty good. 8 hrs later and I can smell it on my wrist. I'm hoping other scents in the line is easy to find. It a pretty powdery vanilla and almond with slight floral notes. Simple but romantic and classic.

This is one of my favourite perfumes! Especially for everyday. I had never heard of it, when I read about it on a forum, someone was asking for perfumes that smelled like marzipan and someone suggested this. They actually said this smells like cherry bakewell and it does. It’s an EDT so not over powering, a sweet, powdery smell. Even though it’s a very old perfume, it doesn’t smell too dated. I think I like the heliotrope, would be nice to see that in more perfumes. It’s probably not everyone’s bag, but if you like almondy, sweet and powdery, you’ll probably like this. I’ve just ordered a back up bottle as some places say it’s discontinued! I hope not.

It's a lovely scent, with a baby-ish tender. The almond and vanilla make it sweet and creamy like a small girl's babyface, while there are some green/plant(white floral and green leaves) notes prevent it from totally gourmand. The beginning and body of the scent is quite balance, and I almost fall for it. however the drydown is bit less interesting. when all the almond and cream settle down, it turns to a blunt sugar sweet, flat and sometimes gives a little "fake" feeling. Except the drydown, the scent is a real attraction, soft but has strong presence. Maybe layer with a patchouli one or a woody one will perfect it.

I love perfume that intrigues me. This perfume beguiles me. I often think of the lyrics from a Paul Weller song when I smell this frag... You do something to me Something deep inside... You do something wonderful Chase it all away Mixing my emotions Throws me back again This fragrance transports me to a time and space that I can barely understand or articulate. I have a strong emotional response to this perfume, for some reason. The powdery cherry and almond scent makes me feel very young, vulnerable, soft and innocent. A lovely historical fragrance that I’d recommend to anyone who loves vintage or powdery scents!

THIS ONE FOR THE PRICE RANGE, AND IF YOU CAN GET IT, IS A MUST FOR ALL GOURMAND LOVERS. Not too over powdery and yes you can smell the almond, the vanilla the floral. I love it! I am going to get 4 bottles of this next trip to France. I just love it, and for the price of it...whoa....worth a try....like I said, if you can get your hands on it. It doesn't smell cheap either, it's very rich. On me, the lasting power (to my nose) isn't very long, but others may still smell me coming and going...love love love

I have loved the scent of Heliptrope ever since I started growing the little plants, years ago. I did a lot of research on what would give me the scent I wanted and decided to give Helioptrope Blanc a try. It is definitely Heliotrope. At first, I smell cherry, then it dries down to almond, vanilla, and ylang-ylang. Soft, sweet, comforting. I love it. For the metal seal on the top, I pierced it with a sewing needle, and the liquid comes out drop by drop, no mess.

Innocence and purity in a bottle! A soothing balm for when life is hectic and you’re feeling jaded, cynical, tired. I feel like I could drink it, like a magical healing elixir. A reminder that we were all children once, that there was a time before we knew anything bad, before meanness, before stress, the smell of hope and happiness, and a reminder that there have always been children, and there will always BE children. A reminder in a bottle, just so lovely.

Received my first bottle of this today and it is nice, but to me, it smells exactly like J&J Baby Powder... not bad, but when I run out of this I'll just buy the baby powder. Same smell for a lot less money. On edit, five hours later, I love it! The baby powder scent dissipated and a delicious aroma of an Italian cookie was left behind... mostly vanilla with a hint of almond, or maybe the heliotrope. Definitely better than the J&J baby powder.

This is a part of my nighttime ritual. Every night after my shower I sit at my vanity and put this on my wrists, behind my ears, and at the top of my forehead. She's so pretty and light, and it's completely gone by the time I wake up so I can wear whatever perfume I want the next day. Almond and vanilla extract. I went through a phase where I attempted to make perfect macarons and this reminds me of the smell of the batter.

I really like this one. It reminds me of a toned down, non-cloying Alaia Blanche. Sweet and powdery but never overwhelming. I'm going to eventually get a bottle once I finish my bottle of Alaia Blanche because they are close enough for me to wait until then. I love to wear this at bedtime or whenever I want to feel comforted. A wonderful surprise is that Heliotrope Blanc is cruelty free too! 💕 Rating: 🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒 Cruelty free 🐾

Vanilla & heliotrope-forward almond galette, very powdery, sweet, and super cuddly. Not foody at all despite the impression of it smelling like a dessert. Couldn't overspray if you tried, it's one of those temperate scents that can be applied with a heavy hand without it smelling heavy-handed. Best in transitioning weather, when it's just the right balance of warm and cold. Very affordable, definitely worth a purchase.

I completely drained a 3.4 oz bottle in about two weeks, which should tell you that 1) I reached for it almost daily -- it's light and comfortingly powdery with a mild sweetness (I get the almond but not really the vanilla), and you can take it anywhere, and 2) it doesn't last on skin or fabric. Luckily, it's cheap, and even the empty bottle is lovely. Please note that, although sweet, this isn't a gourmand almond.

Piver Heliotrope Blanc is perfect for anyone who likes gentle close-to-skin scents. It's a beautiful soft almond vanilla with a little bit of gentle powdery heliotrope. Not too flowery or too sweet. Not heavy at all. Smells "natural" and very pleasant on skin. Could easily be unisex. Longevity is great, 10 to 12 hours. Safe to wear in a crowd, since it doesn't project or offend. Would make a good gift, too.

Gorgeous and calming. Almond and vanilla but in a botanical way, rather than gourmand. Reminds of L’Occitane almond oil but more sophisticated and, of course, floral. I got the massive 400 ml bottle, and it’s beautiful on my dresser. It’s also amazing as a room or pillow spray. I struggle with PTSD nightmares, and I swear a few spritzes on my pillow before bed keeps them at bay. ̄|_(ツ)_/ ̄

Exactly what I hoped this would smell like after reading the reviews. I bought it and it is simply beautiful. I wish it lasted a little longer and wasn't a skin scent as quick as it is. However, the price is right and I love the vintage bottle style although I dislike the metal cover. Very sweet powder. Good for after bath and going to a night of (hopefully) peaceful sleep.

ah i figured i would love this. i get almond, heliotrope and ylang ylang. a soft, powdery comforting sweetness, and the bottle and box are absolutely beautiful! also, i swear this is a tiny bit of spiciness in this when i breathe in very deeply. i detect no jasmine in this. so glad i picked this one up, i think it will be a bedtime/comfort favorite.

When everything else makes me gag....there is LT PIVER HELIOTROPE BLANC. It's light, fresh and so darn calming. I just love it! On days when migraines prevails, I reach for this. I do have Etro also, but it has a little bit more bite to it. This one is softly rounded. All the notes blend so well, and I hope to always have a bottle of this.

Today, this baby came home. If you ever wondered where the perfume inspiration for baby care products came from, you have to smell this. It's also perfectly safe for an adult to wear it, there is nothing infantile about it. Very simple, light and fluffy. Comforting and intimate. In one word, adorable.

Can only find the lotion bottles but at least they are cheap. It combines several of my favorite notes namely: vanilla almond/ heliotrope and powder. The lotion wears close to the body for about 2-3 hours but at €12 for 423 ml i can douse myself in this heavenly scent as often as i like.

I absolutely adore this fragrance! I decanted some into a travel spray and sprayed it on my arms, my chest and neck and a little in my hair. It's lasted for over 10 hours of fragrant bliss. I will never again be without this scent!

Love ♥️. It's powdery like make up. I really enjoy the old fashioned powdery perfume. It's strong for a cologne. Longtivity and projection are good and above average. It reminds much of my beloved Chantilly.

I like this one! A gently, tender, powdery but not very powdery, sweet but not cloying scent; on my skin, I smell white flowers, heliotrope and vanilla. Not very intense, but really long lasting for me :)

Love this!!! A cologne that is soft and cuddly. Heliotrope and almond. Also guessing orris for the powdery, buttery quality. Gentle. Kind of like a baby if I liked babies.

The perfect gourmand heliotrope

Just got my gigantic bottle, purchased "sight un-sniffed." I'm a little surprised by how strong it started off. I bought it in hopes of filling the gap in my fragrance wardrobe left by Jour de Fete (of which I only have the tiniest amount remaining in both of my bottles). I do know from reading *every single comment on this website and everywhere else* that Heliotrope Blanc will quickly settle down to a skin scent, and I eagerly await that part. I can see a few tiny similarities between this and Jour de Fete, but Heliotrope Blanc is much sweeter and far more floral. The ylang-ylang is initially very prominent and the jasmine truly announces itself, for a little while. Not to mention, the heliotrope is also a flower, despite pretending to be powdery vanilla. The two fragrances share a little bit of nutty almond, but Heliotrope's almond lacks the addition of a supporting wheat note, and is also very "cherry." It's more of an almond extract than an almond meal. Jour de Fete is very dry, while Heliotrope Blanc was almost dewy, for that initial opening. Now that several minutes have passed the scent has all but vanished except for a very soft, vaguely clean "something" that still lingers on my skin. It's quite pleasant, and very pretty. Definitely nostalgic without calling up explicit memories. The best way for me to describe it would be the way a baby doll smells after you've washed her hair with almond hand soap and are still brushing out the wet tangles. I think what I'm finding most enjoyable about this scent is that it's very comforting, without being "sleepy." It's cozy without being overly warm. It's clean without an exaggerated perfumed-soap feel. And it's sweet without being syrupy. This is a very good contender for my everyday scent. I prefer to keep everything subtle (generally speaking) and more potent perfumes and EDTs can sometimes feel too loud, for too long, before they settle into the quiet whisper of a scent-signature that I like to possess. So if I don't have the patience and tolerance to let a dry down arrive in it's own time, I might go that day without fragrance entirely. My answer to this moodiness *used to be* Jour de Fete, which was very linear and minimal straight out the sprayer, and couldn't be overapplied if you swam in it. While they are very much Two Different Scents, they are similar in their effects, with the biggest difference being that Heliotrope Blanc cost me $20 for 14 ounces, and Jour de Fete is not only discontinued but cost 6 times as much for 1/5th of the juice in it's day. Though, word of warning, Heliotrope Blanc can DEFINITELY be overpowering in those first 3 or so minutes. It does have an "Industrial Jergen's Knock-Off Pump-Soap in a Public Bathroom" zing to it, for a brief moment. If you can exercise just the barest amount of patience though, and let whatever-that-is burn off, you'll be rewarded with lovely and gentle Vanilla & Cherry Almond scented skin. And I imagine that babies, children, and significant others everywhere will admire you for it. It's *that* kind of smell.

Comfort, comfort, comfort. Héliotrope Blanc is so inexpensive one can be profligate with it. (I got the 14.25 oz bottle on amazon for about $30.) For my first trial, I literally bathed in it - tossed a capful in the bath along with some ground-up oatmeal to soothe my allergy-plagued skin. This combination created the best, most relaxing bath in my memory. The dilute scent of the cologne is so relaxing and mind-clearing, and it chased away the litany of tasks my mind had been reciting all day long. I used a mild, unscented olive soap and emerged feeling restored, non-itchy, lightly moisturized, and very very clean (maybe that was the effect of the small amount of alcohol from the cologne. While I don't know if that use counts as truly "wearing" it, the bathroom smells fabulous, so does my towel, and it's left a persistent skin scent (likely from having had 20 minutes or so to sink into my pores, and then clinging to the balmy hydrating residue the oats left on my skin). I don't know what heliotrope smells like on its own, but there is something very delicate mixed into soft cuddly vanilla and almond, so I expect that's it. This one's not too sweet, and it's a perfect comfort layer to warm up a cooler scent. (I followed it with a test of Jacomo Silences ... because silences are what this day desperately needed. The merger was a success - my beloved soft greens and blues and galbanum, on a base of delicately creamy almonds and vanilla. Based on how content I've felt in my skin these past few hours, this lotion + oatmeal bath may become a regular ritual for me. I'd like to experiment with the other Pivers I have in economy splashes as well ... Pompeïa and Rêve d'Or ... just to see how they work out with oatmeal and mild unscented soap.

This is the exact almond I smell in Jergens lotion. Specifically the Jergens lotion that sat in my grandparent's lake house for 20+ years. A full medicine cabinet, marzipan, and lignin (decomposing old books - which of course release benzaldehydes and vanillin ie a similar faint vanilla and almond to that of Heliotrope Blanc!) Despite the offensive first stringent whiff, it dries down to a light neutral bar of soap skin scent that is perfect for bedtime or to spray on your blankets. There is a faint but offputting slightly spoiled note in this that is similar to something you'd detect in a cheap stocking stuffer white floral hand cream. I enjoy it though, it's like an ugly baby. The seal and dabber applicator piss me off. Lots of spillage potential so be careful if you plan on taking the entire seal off like I did. I will be buying a pretty atomizer bottle to decant this into so I don't have to keep spilling it all over my hands. People who definitely should blind buy this: - Powdery scent family fanatics - Antique doll collectors - Depressed sapphic singles - Historical fragrance collectors It is cheap for a huge full sized bottle (like under $20) so you will be tempted to blind buy. Maybe do it if you like weird bedtime scents and are a hoarder like me.

Such a gorgeous bargain find. Got mine online for about $12, although I don't see it listed on FragranceNet anymore, so I hope this isn't going to become hard to find. My bottle is a splash that I liberally apply after showers, it smells so nice and soothing in both spring and hotter, summer days. It's a doughy sweet vanilla, overlaid with powdery heliotrope and almond. Simple, but unique - and I can smell it on my skin for at least a few hours. When I sniff my arm, I just want to keep inhaling, I love the almond note. Heliotrope Blanc smells a bit like bread to me, but also like a lovely, clean, vintage lady - so comforting but not smothering. I can imagine a mother in the 1800s or early 1900s smelling like this. It doesn't smell expensive, but rather like polished, comfortable, good breeding. I love the bottle design - the ribs on the sides of the glass bottle, the beautifully decorated "H" in Heliotrope Blanc, just like the titles of fairy tales at the beginning of the older Disney movies - each detail makes me feel like I'm using something special from history. I want to try the other perfumes from L.T. Piver, I love this everyday old world glamor that I'm getting from this one.

I’ve had my eye on this fragrance for a long time and finally snagged a bottle at a great price on eBay. It’s everything I had hoped for! A strong (some might say harsh) opening of almond baking essence and rubbery dollhead vanilla, which may not be for everyone but I personally find it a lot of fun. The dry down is EVERYTHING with this fragrance, though. It softens quite quickly into an almond-vanilla cloud, with similarities to Prada Infusion D’Amande. Then quite quickly again it morphs in to that sweet, fluffy, creamy, dreamy heliotrope heaven I was searching for. This phase lasts a long time, giving gentle waves of the most delightful floral-gourmand heliotrope and then eventually (6-8 hours) fading to a soft vanilla skin scent. Light-medium sillage, good longevity. Just lovely.

I have a little decant of Heliotrope Blanc, and I really like it for winter. I'm a little surprised most voters call it a spring scent, because I think it might be a little overwhelming on anything but a very cold day. In below-zero temperatures it's wonderful though; heliotrope really is the most gourmand of flowers, it's such a comforting scent, and it goes so well with the almond and vanilla. The opening is a little strong for me, but it quickly settles down into a lovely soft blanket of a scent that stays with you all day, extremely comfortable. In fact, it reminds me a little of a less musky, less powdery version of Lorenzo Villoresi's Teint de Neige. No mean feat for a scent that might be ten times cheaper - the price/quality ratio is incredible here.

This stuff is like liquid gold. I've been looking for a good, uncomplicated almond scent for so long, and I think I finally found it! This is, for me, what Heliotrope by Reminiscence wanted to be but couldn't. It's so pretty and light and comforting, sort of like an oatmeal bath if that rings a bell for anyone? Sweet and slightly floral and powdery, really light and comforting. And it gets stronger the longer it stays on my skin, at least for the first 30 minutes. It's still not very strong, just a skin scent but I don't need it to be-- especially when it's so cheap! I got a 100ml bottle for like $20. Seriously, it's cheap and basic and just... nice. Must have in the collection for any almond enthusiast. Also great for layering with florals or gourmands!!

"Vanilla with petals" does indeed describe heliotrope perfectly, and by extension this fragrance. I am however surprised at the amount of ylang ylang that comes through on my skin, but it's certainly not a bad thing. "White heliotrope" indeed... bright, fluffy, slightly sweet, and yet a far cry from the sugared almonds of conafetto or nougat - the "petals" of the fragrance prohibit it from going the way of full gourmand. 1850, you say? Remarkable. There is a hint of Play-Doh in this, but nowhere near the vanillic Play-Doh rice pudding that is Hypnotic Poison. It makes HP seem rather brash and unrefined, really, this one is understated in a very becoming way. If I were a mother, this is the scent I would like my children to associate with me. Fantastic.

So excited! My bottle just arrived 5 minutes ago. I was looking for a replacement for my favorite scent (Riceflower&Shea by BBW). The seal was indeed difficult to open. I didn't get it all the way off. My first reaction was that it smells similar to Riceflower & Shea. Upon application, I got the "bathroom deodorant" smell, which softened to the Play-Doh smell, which I don't mind. I couldn't wait for it to settle, so I ran and got my oatmeal and shea butter body lotion. There, that is much better! Not exactly like my favorite scent, but it will do. Especially for $10. Bath and Body Works is stupid to let go of some of its best Classic fragrances. I used to get so many compliments when I wore Riceflower & Shea.
