Reve d'Or

To preface; I'm into vodou. I am in the process of building relationships with the Lwa (spirits). In Vodou, this fragrance is used as an offering to Ezili Dantor, mother of the Haitian Revolution and fierce protector of women and children. She walks with me, and I love this fragrance. It's weirdly woody, in that it's woody and yet sweet and aldehydic. It also reminds me of musk, but not a Gucci Guilty musk, more like a Kyphi smell. I think women and gay men (like me) who have a level of feminine to them could pull this off. I think a muscular man could too, if he dressed in polos and shorts, jeans and jorts. Definitely could go well for a warm summer night or day, or a cold winter day or night. Spring as well. Sillage is pretty good, I prefer arm-length personally so I don't gas everyone in a room. Don't use too much though, especially in lotion form. Lasts regularly, would probably want to take it with you if you're wearing it out. Not really set for school, but if you style your uniform just right it might, but this is optimal for wearing out. L.T. Piver is possibly the most underrated fragrance house ever.

Golden dreams is such a misnomer, this is a plush, spicy red and pink fragrance full of beautiful, soapy carnation and rose, buoyed by sandalwood and fresh white powder. It smells like an expensive soap or a scented shaving cream, very chic, vaguely barbershop, surprisingly spicy, and can lean to either gender. I suppose the geranium, which can be spicy itself, combined with the rose creates the watercolor portrait of a fairly accurate carnation or pink. Very charming and suitable for a lot of wear. Moderate strength overall, it quickly moves like a popped soap bubble. I find the drydown very pretty, turning into a cozy skin scent. Great value for the low price.

I'm not surprised this is used in spiritual practices and cleansing ceremonies because there is something quite profound about this perfume. Close your eyes and feel yourself surrounded by polished wood and objects of faith. Piver scents are so underrated. Particularly this one and the gloriously cozy Heliotrope Blanc. Reve D'Or is very beautiful but I rarely wear it except when I need to ground myself and do a bit of pondering. Now to lower the tone...one squirt of this neutralises the most pungent and persistent cooking smells to make the room smell like an expensive country house.

Timeless and beautiful - this fragrance sings with heliotrope supported by the geranium providing a slight spicy warmth along with the vetiver and sandalwood. The orange blossom and rose float around on their fluffy cloud, weaving in and out of this very appropriately named Golden Dream. The 'lotion' is of EdT strength (at least my splash bottle) and has good sillage and longevity. Highly recommended if you like classic fragrances with a sense of mystery and reverie about them.

I like this vintage a lot for convincing geranium, cheerful (and smiling... I don't know why, but I feel it smiles) heliotrope in sandal's company, and with that nice smell light summer wind blows my way from time to time, the smell of Turkish delight lying riiight there. The Turkish delight is on a tray, and it smells of rose and orange blossom to me, with spicy, a bit sharp cloves in there, along with the rose-orangeblossomy smell, I enjoy that kind of cloves very much.

"The Reve D'or Lotion is used in Haitian Vodou to please the Petro and Kongo spirits, especially Ezili Dantor." I found this text on a website and I wasn't shocked because the smell of this perfume is very beautiful and relaxing to me. I just love it and started to stock som on my nightstand to enjoy looking at, as the bottle is an underestimated piece of art.

This does remind me of my favourite love, Bellodgia, if I really splash it on and wait for it to develop. It is weak, though. But so far, the best one from LT Piver for me.

Love this♥️It's fresh, sweet and soapy. For a cologne its quite strong. Longtivity and projection are above average. I enjoy the soapiness.

It would be nice to find a bath line from Reve Dor, I can imagine how the soap will smell, and the powder, mmmm

I loved wearing Dana Chantilly and Nina Ricci L'Air du Temps when I was in high school, back in the early 1980's, and LT Piver Reve d'Or provides a similar experience. Maxje said it so well just below: "this is a plush, spicy red and pink fragrance full of beautiful, soapy carnation and rose, buoyed by sandalwood and fresh white powder...." Since there's no carnation listed -- as she notes too -- it must be an effect of the geranium + rose; there's even a little bit of a clean, medicinal note underneath. This is a beautiful scent, if you love these warm, spicy, aldehydic, classic fragrances. But I think I may actually prefer the slightly later Pompeia over Reve d'Or, and I completely adore the sweet, almondy purity of the gorgeous Heliotrope Blanc. Overall, this is a brand to explore if you are into perfume history and enjoy vintage classics.

The top notes provide a very soapy and fresh introduction to this fragrance. At this point, I thought that it could be perfect for summer. However, as the fragrance progresses, the soapiness slowly disappears and a light spiciness comes into play, which makes me think that the fragrance would be too heavy for summer and more suitable for early fall days. When spending time outdoors, I can hardly smell the fragrance on me, so I prefer to wear it indoors. What fascinates me the most about this fragrance is that it was introduced in 1889, the year the Eiffel Tower opened, for example. Looking at pictures from this time, I imagine that some people, crowds and places probably smelled like this.

A fan of vintage, i just had to buy this, a new bottle for a really low price. At first sniff, yes it is soapy, with a lot of aldehydes, but thankfully the one i like best (MNA I believe), which to me has a pleasant church-incense vibe. Then fairly soon a lovely carnation note emerges, and again, it's another favorite note of mine. I do not detect any of the other listed notes, at least separately. So, basically church incense and carnation, and yes it lasts a good long time. Simple but very nice and definitely a vintage feel, in keeping with its origins.

woody (as other reviewers have stated), maybe a bit musky. feels like you're in the same room as a bouquet of flowers, but you won't smell like the flower itself. kind of smells like your grandma's old leather couch (in a nice way), a catholic church altar, and climbing a tree as a child. its existed forever, and its used alot in spiritual practices or just as cleansing cologne, and understandably so. if you're the type who loves modern perfumery though, she's probably not for you

This is such a calming scent for me. At first blast (I decanted it into a spray bottle) it's quite sharp and soapy, like something you might smell in a barbershop, but then it calms down into a cozy spiciness that maintains a clean and cool edge. The spray lasts nearly all day on my skin, much longer than dabs from the bottle, and it will stay on clothes for a day or two. Fantastic value.

This is soapy w/ lot of aldehydes in the beginning but I agree w/ the review that said church incense and carnations. This is heavy w/ carnation, surprised it isn't listed above. Very fresh spicy, kind of barber shop type vibe. Unisex but leaning masculine for me. I think my husband will get more use out of this than I will.

A very good perfume. Different from the synthetics and crowd pleasers from today. It's got the vintage powdery vibe but not in a cloying way. Makes me feel very clean, fresh and royal.

I bought quite cheaply all the old Piver's fragrances I could find, out of curiosity and also as an attempt to find good 'nostalgia' fragrances (i.e. recreations/reissues of old formulae). The bottle is charming and it does have a vintage feel to it, with an old fashioned plastic cap and simple packaging. It is called 'lotion' in French, which is sometimes interpreted as eau de cologne strength, but I think it is much stronger, definitely EDT. I am really struggling with the actual fragrance. I am not sure if i can say anything good about it, I'm afraid, except that it has an authentic old fashioned vibe, reminding me of strong, cheap and vulgar fragrances of yesteryears. Probably it doesn't help that it has a strong resemblance to bathroom cleaning products. It didn't cost much and the bottle looks good, so its function will be bathroom decoration :-)

If you're not a fan of vintage scents, I'm not sure how on earth you'd like this. I bought this because the bottle was pretty, I didn't really care about how it smelled. It's so strange... when I let it sit on my skin at first I hate it, it smells so offensive to my nose due to how sharp the opening is. Once an hour as passed however, it smells like an expensive soap and I really like it, but it sadly doesn't have the best longevity. It's alright but not something I usually go for, it's a bit too mature.

At first, hate it - smells like soap, and not the good kind. I put it back in the box, thinking to resell it. After about 15 minutes, I smell the cloves which is very nice. I suppose I'll keep it. But, after 30 minutes, it's hardly more than a memory. Oh well, at least it was an inexpensive trial.

Where else would i be, on Christmas Eve than with my beloved and fragrant Family of Fragrantica??? I was reminded of this gem recently in an article by a great Fragrantica Editor ( won't divulge name trying to maintain my Feminine Mystique...) I had set my eyes some time ago on several of Piver and Coudray juices and was curious of Reve D' Or. This is a scent that started life at the end of the 19th century, adorned the necks and wrists of countless ladies from a bygone era and to me it captured a small, but all important aspect of life from another generation, the wives, mothers and lovers that made this scent their own. Well, it is majestic! It starts off bubbly, aldehydic, almost acetonic but not the headache inducing kind. It is lightly effervescent with a citrus touch, i guess the vetiver and geranium combo create this effect which evaporates after a while giving way to a creamy, powdery sandalwood still engulfed in orange blossom but tamer at this stage. Soon the gorgeous powdery aspect kicks in! Heliotrope and wood in a creamy heaven, calm, soothing, comforting but utterly alluring with a depth of powdery quality that I find hard to pin. There is an aspect in this scent that gives a vibe of a bygone era yet strangely modern. Very modern as a matter of fact. Anyone acquainted with Kenzo Flower will notice the similarities. The middle and dry off stage of this gem is pure Kenzo Flower. A deep, resinous,almost smoky, powdery heaven that lasts for very long. There is a reason why this scent lasted the test of time, one of them being the sheer beauty of its composition, the timeless allure and gentle caress of ones senses. This is a perfume one wants to smell again and again. Pure class, comfort and desire all wrapped up in one bottle Reve d'Or is here to stay for the next 127 years. And cheers to that!!!

Damnit, I never thought I'd be the type to complain about a newer formulation of a perfume, since I'm relatively new to vintage perfumes and I only have a small collection, but Damn it! I first bought a vintage bottle of this perfume and it was incredibly strong when I first unsealed it, nauseatingly so. After a day or two the perfume in the bottle had died down to a very soft and subtle smell. An absolutely beautiful smell though. I don't have enough knowledge of individual notes to identify it, but it's reminiscent of Chanel no. 5, but with a strong aldehydic smell. It reminds me of antique wood furniture and church incense, but also the smell of the ocean, of sea spray and foamy waves. It's a little powdery, but not extremely 'old fashioned' smelling. I can see why this was enjoyed by voodoo spirits, it's haunting and sweet and very autumnal. I bought a new bottle the other day so I could hopefully have a stronger version to carry round with me and boy am I disappointed. The new version is pretty much nothing like the one I already have. I realize perfumes change over time but it hardly comes close to smelling like the beautiful vintage version. It's even weaker, smells entirely of alcohol at first, and smells strangely like a medicated skin cream. There's none of the sweetness, none of the woody-smell, and none of the ocean. All that I smell in my new bottle is aldehydes and alcohol, and maybe a little furniture cleaner. In its dry down, it begins to smell somewhat similar to the dry down of the vintage, and it's still quite charming. If you can, try to get an old bottle of this. I can completely understand the people here reviewing who said it doesn't smell good. I think if I bought it new I wouldn't like it much either.

Wow! Surprisingly spicy! At first sniff, you do get the strong aldehydes other reviewers mentioned- the soapy scent that kind of makes it smell like cheap bathroom air freshener, but then the sandalwood and the florals kick in. The sandalwood is very strong, much more than I expected but the florals come through enough that it doesn’t smell like a men’s cologne. The geranium and heliotrope is the strongest - very green and woodsy with the orange flower also coming through. I don’t smell the vetiver and tea rose, but I assume they balance out the scent because it is subtle and not as aggressively floral and more green and woodsy than I expected. I was curious about this perfume mostly because it is so old and I wanted to get a whiff of history- especially of the Belle Époque! It’s rare you can find perfumes that are available in an iteration that is similar to a previous era at an affordable price. And knowing about its cultural history as a fragrance in Voodoo makes it more awe inspiring! I was aware of its use in spiritual practices, and in the dry down after the spray it smells exactly like incense- it would be perfect as an offering. I’ve smelled plenty of modern oriental perfumes, and quite a few sandalwood ones and I can say this is completely different from all of them. This is a strong scent, but it’s not loud. It’s not juicy or peppery or too floral like say, Black Opium. And it’s not super bright and woodsy like Santal 33. It’s it’s own comforting powdery woody spicy thing with just a whisper of flowers by the end. Very short life for the florals - but as a lover of sandalwood I don’t mind

The Golden Dream lives eternal. Seriously, this sauce is amazing. Everything about it is a time machine back to some enchanted age of less innocence and more complexity... Even the idea of it being a 'lotion' bears no relation to our modern conception of the term. First, the packaging. The box, the label, the bottle; all look like they've sat untouched in a medicine cabinet since the 1930s. Even the creamy, translucent plastic cap does a more than fair job of emulating long-gone plastic (bakelite?, casein?). But it is the way the bottle is sealed that is positively antediluvian! Piven is showing a real committment to creative anachronistic living here, and I commend them for it highly. The bottle is tightly sealed in gold-tone metal foil with a thick disc of blotter paper beneath that. It is nearly impossible to remove this without resorting to some type tool or implement. I chose a pair of needle-nose pliers, and slightly chipped the glass rim of the bottle in the process. For that one moment I completlely re-lived the lost tactile glamour of pre-war living. I refer here to WWII, or maybe even WWI. As for the actual scent of this eau-de-cologne 'lotion' intended to be splashed on by hand with sensuous, yet carefree, abandon. Well, ...it kinda smells like Chanel No. 5. No, it's not a 'dupe' in the modern, obsessive use of that term, but some of the notes are noticeably similar and the overall vibe jibes nicely. Besides, Reve d'Or came out in 1889 (!!) so who would be duping whom anyway? (As if I cared...) Bottom Line: This delivers archaic fun in spades. Definitely a keeper to revisit again.

First impression: it smells old and medicinal ... yet intriguing. On proper smelling, yes, it IS dated. But you gotta learn to appreciate why/how it's lasted as long as it has. Here's the impression ... It smells like chunks of brown sugar swimming in maple syrup -- no waffles or pancakes though -- except it's sandalwood shavings instead of brown sugar, and it's nectar instead of maple syrup. Now, I'm not good at picking out floral notes, but I know it's neither rose nor orange blossom. The vetiver gives it a bit of sharpness. I'm not using it as lotion. I've put it in a bottle with a sprayer. It does't project much, unless I overspray. And if I overspray, the sharpness takes over and it's cloying. Neither does it last very long on my skin (past 5/6 hours). But I'm happy with it. Although it feels "old", it's not old in the sense of a grandma-fragrance. Maybe because it probably smells lilke great-grandma (or great-great-grandma) and we don't know what she smells like. Its function feels more intimate and personal than social. I've been wearing it to bed mostly, in hopes of having "golden dreams", and smelling it for my own pleasure than featuring it in daily life.

An opening of pale white florals (orange blossom? tuberose?) plus definite carnation/clove, with a background whiff of powdery heliotrope. This dries down very quickly into a complex, vintagey accord that reminds me of civet. I don’t have the perfume for comparison anymore, but it reminds me of my memory of Caron’s Narcisse Noir, as I encountered it in a little flower-capped bottle from the 1970s. It warms up as an exotic, heady yet powdery floral on a complex vintage musk-civet base. I have to work to find the sandalwood in here. Maybe this is an example of the listed note-ingredients somehow expressing more than the sum of their parts. I understand Piver have now completely reformulated their historic perfumes, including this one: re-using the historic names but with totally different note pyramids (not to mention niche pricing) — and I find it a shame! The “old” Reve d’Or I am reviewing here is probably outside contemporary mainstream taste, but it is a gorgeous perfume which till recently was being made and sold affordably across the world.

Deciding that my parfum indulgence/collection/wardrobe could not be complete without fragrances from the House of LT Piver, I recently purchased Heliotrope Blanc. Shortly thereafter, I read a Fragrantica review of Reve d'or and was intriqued by a claim that it smelled much like Chanel No.5 but with a big aldehyde boost. Being that both Piver classics are relatively inexpensive, I ordered and received Reve d'or and immediately applied it to my skin. The claim was a fairly accurate one! I believe it even possible that this lotion may have been Coco's inspiration for her Number 5 formulation choice. I'll bet her Mother may have worn this. The drydown steals the notes as it's not long lasting but all notes reported do emerge. Old fashioned charm. Mature. I thought I could detect a hint of amber incense but it must be the sandalwood. It's well crafted, fresh, bright, a bit spicy. Golden Dreams~

I've been curious about Piver scents after reading Sergey's article, White-Snow-Perfumes-by-LT-Piver-Reve-d-Or-and-Heliotrope-Blanc-17770.html Strangely, I found that on piver.com, the listing for Reve d'Or gives completely different notes from those I see here and everywhere else! Even as it cites the familiar history back to 1889. There, the "main accords" are listed as "Raspberry, saffron, cedar", and the Olfactory Pyramid is: Top : Pink pepper, lemon, bergamot Heart : Raspberry, blackcurrant, saffron Base : Musk, cedar I think I'd like that fragrance, too :-) Wonder if anyone has any insight or info about this? Do these two descriptions jive in some way that is beyond my understanding?? I do have a bottle on it's way to me, am confident that it is the heliotrope-forward version.

I have the new formulation. I bought it because I am old fashioned enough to scent the cavity in my steam iron, yes, I iron clothes, I was raised that way. Previously I had used Molinard's 'France' but it was out of stock, so I happened on this. It's lovely, I tested it on myself after a shower, backs of the knees, a palmful spread over my arms and a little dab to the wrists. From the bottle it smells just like a bar of Lux soap from the sixties, but it becomes more complex during the development and its all the nice things previous reviewers have written. You do have to wait an hour or so and by then it's just a skin scent but very engaging. It's just part of my perfume education, but I'm not unhappy with the purchase at all.

Piver est une des plus anciennes marques de parfumerie française. C'est une belle eau de cologne rétro, je l'ai découverte en visitant la boutique du musée des parfums au château de Chamerolles, elle s'achète pour rien. Mixte, elle serait beaucoup portée en Orient et j'apprends ici qu'elle servirait dans des cérémonies vaudous! Elle est très aromatique, elle me rappelle certaines huiles essentielles, je dirais que le géranium et le vetiver ressortent plus que les autres notes. Elle donne un bon coup de fraîcheur et de peps et a une bonne tenue pour une eau de cologne. Très vintage, elle n'a rien de commun avec les sorties actuelles, c'est ce qui fait son charme.

I just put this on my wrists and I have about knocked myself over with this. I get a wallop of carnation and clove and maybe a hint of geranium. It's spicy, sweet, and flowery, in that order on me at the moment. This smells old fashioned, yes. But it also smells rich and obscure. I see why this is used in Voodoo. This is a power feminine fragrance. Ladylike, yes, but this is a ladylike that will stab you with a pearl handled letter opener should you misbehave. Will update with dry down.

I just love this as a spring summer cologne and think it is unique and unisex. It is classed as a lotion and is lasting but never cloying.It starts out with a bright carnation and rose note wit a hint of old fashioned cologne and in the dry down the heliotrope comes alive with a powdery sweetness. I would classify this as a "happy" fragrance and sometimes can be purchased at amazing prices in European cities. Worth seeking out if you like colognes. my rating 9 out of 10..

I like this a lot... it an all time favourite of mine... it's classis, antique & so feminine. i sometimes spray it on my sheets & pillows. its soft romantic smell makes me have the sweetest of dreams. i love it because i love classic old fraagrances.

This was a signature parfum of my grandma,that's why I love it so much.Becouse of that,I can't express any personal opinion about it,For me,it will be always smelling of my childhood,so safe,sunny,full of love.
