Brittany Breeze

This is a salty fragrance done right. I've tried too many salt air inspired fragrances that quickly turn to dirty ocean water, but this stays clean all the way. This brings to mind wearing a crisp white linen dress strolling through a small seaside town. There is also something a little sexy beneath the surface on this one - maybe the wood notes? It's clean and classy, but still enticing. If you're looking for a salt breeze inspired scent but are tired of sniffing ones that smell like the beach at low tide, give this a try.

A very well executed aromatic fougere, classical but also different enough. I definitely detect a potent galbanum note (smells like a freshly cut cucumber) as well as a green artemesia, some minty notes, lavender, and an anise-y quality. There are some light marine touches, not much calone, overall very subdued, and they blended with the cucumber to produce a fresh 'seaweed salad' kind of effect, ever so slightly salty, but mostly fresh and clean and actually slightly sweet presumably coming from some coumarin/tonka in the base. Lubin as a whole is definitely a house I am generally fond of, I get the feeling they are actually trying to come up with new interesting takes. Brittany Breeze is not one of their modern experimental offerings (like Korrigan or Upper Ten), it feel a tad bit retro and therefore is probably best suited for the more professional 30+ age group. A solid 'signature'-type day scent for late Spring and Summer.

Fresh herbs, iced cucumber water with mint leaves and lemon slices. On one hand, it evokes memories of dew and rainy spring days at the park but on the other hand, Brittany Breeze remains "dry" in the sense that it is devoid of any sweetness and zingy citric characteristics which could bolster or lift up the scent but also of any vegetal stank which could drag it down. Mastering the balancing-act between conveying a naturalistic impression of freshness that doesn't also veer into synthetic territory, often comes at the cost of having to omit overgenerous use of certain aromachemicals which also means sacrificing performance. Thus, Brittany Breeze remains a light fragrance that stays close to the skin for most of its journey.

This is fresh and inoffensive in a way that's hard not to like, but sometimes those perfumes are the ones that curdle into this place of distaste for me. The kind of ocean I get from this perfume is the view from an air conditioned yacht-- the ocean as a backdrop to wealth, not part of the earth. I imagine smelling this at a white-collar dock party while I talk to some tailored finance bro who comes from old money and pretends to be polite before he hits on me. I drift off while he speaks at me to glance at the ocean, and I find myself wanting to jump into the water before I remember how much gasoline the boat is dumping into it. I both feel deeply guilty about my presence at the party and suddenly removed from my humanity. I contemplate the irony of wealthy people celebrating life by drizzling poison into the force of nature that made existence possible. The man only notices that I'm not paying attention after a sustained moment of silence passes between us. I apologize and say I have to go to the bathroom. I grab a glass of wine before someone else stops to talk to me. I instantly forget the face of the man I spoke to, as well as how he smelled.

This is such a fantastic herbal aquatic perfume. It is so refreshing but not astringent or bracing. I would have bought it except that it is too masculine for me. I love the mixed herbs with the gentle aquatic which is not too marine like. By that I mean there is no whiff of dank seaweed or animalic ambergris, and neither is it too salty. If I were a guy I would definitely wear this. The deal beakers for me were the slightly too powerful oak moss and vetiver notes. They made it distinctly non-feminine to my nose. Frustrated by this, I went on searching and I eventually bought JM Wood, Sage and Sea Salt which is really quite similar, minus a few herbs, but also notably less masculine. It has a similar wonderful fresh sea and herbs combo.

Classic blast of bergamot and geranium quickly followed by freshly pressed herbs all minty and sharply green. I feel the pull between something that might be informed by the masculine scents of yesteryear but distinctly modern in every way. Stays a fresh and aromatic scent with translucent vetiver but unfortunately lacking in staying power.
