Idole

This is definitely the superior version of Lubin's masterpiece Idole. While the EDP is fantastic, it is less defined and comes across more like a loud, thick sweet/smoky winter fragrance. At points, it feels like the EDP's rum/incense combination kind of steps on the toes of the other subtle notes in the fragrance. The EDT is much more dynamic and wearable. While the deep, sweet rum is still there, the leather, woods, orange, and saffron are all much easier to detect and as such the drydown on this smells considerably more masculine (good call on lubin for making the EDP unisex!), complex, and compelling. It starts out with a blast of rum and subtle citrus. Very evocative of a nice high quality mixed drink. It's pretty unique and atypical for a personal fragrance, that is until the drydown when it becomes remarkably accessible. Smoldering yet smooth ebony provides a nice woody base, a strong and noticeable leather adds some masculine kick and the saffron adds some interesting spicy nuance to the whole thing. It works just as great in 30 degree weather as it does in 100 degree weather and as such, it's one of my most worn and favorite fragrances. I totally get the 70's connotation, but by no means does it smell dated. In a way it evokes the endearingly kitschy, masculine, pimp-esque suaveness of a 70's action b-movie hero in the best way possible. If any of that sounds even slightly appealing, you owe it to yourself to track down some of the Idole EDT. It Performs just as good as the EDP and is much more wearable, interesting, and unique. (also, the bottle is much better in my opinion!) 9.5/10

Oh. My. Word. )($)@^%*(^&)(^&@%) ... that's not a typo, it's me swearing furiously at myself , Captain Haddock-style, for even trying this. Not because it's a fail. Exactly the opposite. Because it is almost unbearably wonderful ... and of course discontinued and near impossible to find now except at vintage-gouging antiquarian prices. I have and adore the new Lubin Idole EDP in the modern, curved, ebony-black bottle. Those woods, that rum, that ORANGE, those spices - I'm besotted with it, happy to boogie with its boozy beauty any day of any season. I think of it as the scent of Josephine Baker - gorgeous Jazz Age modernist exotic with a hell of a kick. But I have to admit it doesn't always last as long as I'd like. The EdT solves that problem somehow - it's less syrupy-thick and a little less dark, but that gives it more room to expand, so it manages to project more strongly for longer (7h+). The orange is just breathtaking in this, even zingier and more zesty than the EDP's, the spices somehow pricklier and even more exciting. It makes me WEAK. And the bottle is a work of art. Will I ever find or own this unicorn? I don't know. I wish I hadn't even shelled out for a sample, because I'll pine for it until that most unlikely day. Beware if this sounds like the sort of thing you'd love, because it might be the perfume equivalent of self-harm... deliberately exposing yourself to beauty beyond your means. Aargh! Why did I even go here? Heeeeeeellllllpppp ... I've been Idoled.

Today I was standing on the street waiting for a friend to come and there were 5 young girls close to me. One of them dared to come closer and asked me: excuse me... what perfume are you wearing? it's amazing! I tell you this true story not to boast about my sex appeal lol, but because I loved Idole right from the beginning but thought it wore so close to my skin no one would ever notice it. This happened 3 hs ago and it was sooo hot outside... I had put a little (only 2 sprays) on me and even forgot about it. When she asked me I had to think twice and said: Idole! After this I thought : a perfumist should never reveal his/her secrets haha... but well well... next time if there is such. About Idole... I can't say this perfume is unique or has any special features to it... but it is indeed a great perfume. Its longevity is above average... ten hours later that orangey rum is there and is sooo well done. I was worried about sillage but as I said: no need to worry, you may not smell it but people definitely do. Giacobetti's genius is shown here... you don't need a powerhouse to make a statement and Idole is by no means forgettable. I also thought it was meant for winter time but as it isn't intrusive, I dare to say its best shows up in spring and early summer. It is so elegant and modern. Give it some time, Idole will mesmerize you. Now my next aim is to try Olivia's Philosykos and in case it is as good as people say here, I'll become her new fan.

Well, it's obvious this is a 'love it or hate it' fragrance; no middle ground. It opens with a very boosy note, the rum more prominent than anything else. The 'booze' phase lasts for almost an hour and after that, the spices that have always existed in the background come to the front. I wish I could tell exactly what they are, but to me it's just spice. As it dries down the rum is still there but overshadowed by the saffron and spices and as someone else mentioned, I believe there is some patchouli there as well though it's not actually listed, along with the sandalwood. Fortunately, the orange never makes an appearence on my skin which for me is a very good thing. This can be really heavy for the first hour but after that it settles down into a much calmer and softer scent close to skin that lasts around 6 maybe 8 hours. It is slightly reminiscent of Frapin 1270 though it's not sweet at all and also of Padparadscha and CdG Palisander. Definitely unisex in my opinion, can be worn by either man or woman with equal ease. If you like saffron & spice then you have to give it a try. Personally, as a big spice lover I find it FB worthy. Update: I have been wearing it almost on a daily basis since I got it! This is one amazing scent that I can't get enough of but unfortunately though it doesn't last more than 5 hours tops:( I wish the bottle was smaller so I could carry it in my bag and reapply throughout the day.

platinum14 Not sure where you're located. There are very few of these out there in original bottle like in the picture above edt. I searched for months here in the usa and no luck. I contacted at least 10 distributors on the Lubin website for the usa and they either don't have any in stock or never stocked it. I tried emailing the manufacture. They never returned my email probably because they don't make them anymore and have no answers. There are some bottles in australia at the David Jones Department store online. Unless you know someone in australia you trust to purchase it for you and ship, because DJ won't ship to the usa. There are several in the UK but again the international restrictions from that country won't allow any items shipped that contains any form of alcohol. I found a store in Italy and should be receiving my bottle sometime this week. Try ProfumeriaGM on Ebay. They don't have a problem shipping it to you. You pay more for it, but i think they know because this is a rare find. I guess if you want it bad enough. I won't be using it for the juice so much. I plan to keep it as full as possible only using the juice as little as i can. I've had a sample of the new edp version and its pretty good. But i agree, they shouldn't have changed the design of the bottle. It's collectors piece.

Lubin Idole is a masterful evocation of some hidden African place where ancient trees cast shadows over shaman hallowed earth. The impression starts with the bottle (get the EDT), which is in itself a small work of art, with a Masai mask cap and a full sail shape. I won't try to pull apart the notes except to say I get bits of many of the listed notes and that saffron and woods are prominent. This is one of those scents that I prefer to wallow in when I smell my wrist, turning off all thought processes and briefly entering a Zen-like state of pure experience of the moment. The rest of the time this a lovely spicy-woody scent with modest sillage and extreme longevity. It is even a safe blind buy if you like things like Yves Saint Laurent M7; Idole is a bit less sweet and it has more wood and some vetiver relative to M7. PS Apparently the Masai mask bottle is out of production. The new bottle looks cool too, but the old one was much more distinctive.

Absolutely stunning right from the start! The rum, bitter orange and black cumin let you know immediately you're in for a treat. It's boozy, spicy, warm and a little sweet but just enough so... I'm often cautious about cumin in fragrances, as it can sometimes feel stinky to my nose, but no such thing here. It's just right. Saffron and, I think, something peppery soon joins in and at that point there was no going back: I was hooked. The rum then subsides and the saffron shines; the middles notes remain spicy, with the addition of a gorgeous light smokiness. There is also something fruity, rich and liquorous but always balanced. With time, gorgeous, warm amber develops, joined by sandalwood and, at least on my skin, a very discrete leather note. Beautiful, comforting, warm, spicy but also mellow and velvety, Idole is perfect for cold weather. It's also unisex without a doubt. Sillage and longevity are good. Highly recommended.

Bought this today as a gift from the local representative of Lublin in Limassol, Dora Theophilou haute parfumerie.....which I thank very much for their present. A day before that I tried bentley intense....the two perfumes have similarities but Lubin is deeper and of higher quality. I love the rum note, the smoky leather and the smell of ebony wood. On the paper during the dry down, turns a bit soapy but woody as well. Will try it on the skin for several days and see...you pay more actually but you buy more. The bottle is magnificent. A lot of perfumes have similarities among them but always always you pay you get what you pay....nothing cheap can be compared to the quality of a niche perfume but you have to be in the game to see the differences. For the inexperienced nose, everything seems linear and same....and there is no reason to pay more....but this is not true. The others around you smell the difference.

Idole edt is good stuff. A fantastic rum/bitter-orange scent that smells really authentique and pretty deep and rich for an edt. It is sweet and spicy (thankfully not the vanillic kind of sweetness) and it gets more woody and leathery when time passes but the rum and orange note never leaves. It,s like you,re hanging your nose into a bottle of orangey rum. This scent is very well made that even friends of mine that are not into perfumes even liked it very much. The bottle and the scent are a piece of art and both they tell a story so well done. The perfumer of this made me look at her other creations because of this magnificent piece. The performance is just perfect. Not to loud (the way it should be) but still there never disturbing. I have tried all of Lubin but this one is my favourite of them all. Great scent and a little masterpiece! A classic from the house of lubin already.

I always say this: If pirates would shower and wear perfume.. Jack Sparrow would smell like this! This WILL be my signature scent very soon. I imagine someone of a rockstar caliber would wear it.. Leather jacket and ton of bracelets and rings. Simply not giving a damn about anything other that feeling good and have fun. This suggests a party, leaned back character cause of it's boozy rum note which reminds You of some cool drink.. and yet it doesn't say "someone here is wasted" ;) Great fragrance.. for bold people. P.S. It's sealed in the most beautiful and thought thru bottle that I have the privilage to own in my collection. Just by looking at the bottle You know EXACTLY what kind of vibe You're gonna get.. One truly must be an idiot if dissapointed after wanting to sniff it because of the bottle.. ;)

Very boozy opening indeed you immediately get a sour & sweetness from the rum note. The sourness dissipates after a while && your left with a nice mingling of just sweet rum and leather, the leather plays a nice role in this scent adding just the right amount of smokiness. It's very similar to the EDP for both it's so similar I think it's this would be just as suitable for both. Only with this one the leather is more dominant which is what makes it slightly more masc. I do also strangely find this to be stronger then the EDP the EDP being a little more delicate, lonegevity is brilliant, the sillage is a slightly above moderate which is still pretty good to me, && that bottle, look @ that bottle Lubin's bottles are works of art on their own. A wonderful scent worth the wiff, try it out! Overall: 10/10

Madly sexy, dark, exotic concoction in a fabulous idol-adorned perfume bottle (the original with the Masai mask). When I inhale this rum-infused orange and saffron air the connection to my usual mental clatter is blurred and I get a wave of sheer, sensual pleasure; a fabulous aromatherapeutic tool. I can always tell when people are new to fragrances... I have both Bentley MIT and this and they are not even close lol. This is 100x more better, more depth, extreme difference in quality, and overall scent. Please stop following the crowd and voting for stuff bc everyone else is. Fragrantica is really only good for looking at the notes and photos..

Does anyone know where I can obtain the original EDT of this one? I understand its discontinued and only available in the perfumed version in the black bottle. I would probably like the perfumed version better but id like to have the classic bottle like in the picture above. Any ideas, please email me. Thank You.

Michael 1962, Thanks for the feedback. I will check it out. I have a small sample of the newer Idole and I like it. I just learned that the old classic bottle is discontinued so i had to go hunting. None on Ebay except for decants in the UK. I appreciate info regarding David Jones.

A classier and more complex Bentley Intense- but essentially, to my nose, the same. It lasted quite awhile and ended much more feminine than the Bentley on my skin. I won't be buying it since I am happy with my Bentley Intense which is much cheaper. Nice, but not a "must" for me.

This is absolutely amazing. Unlike anything I have smelled before. I love how dry it is, with just a touch of sugar. I must be smelling the ebony wood and red sandalwood. Super exotic smelling and mysterious. I am totally buying a full bottle of this one!

I smell the rum, woods, leather, and sugar cane mostly in the dry down of idole. When I wear this it makes me feel so calm, cool, and collective when I where it. Makes me feel like I'm a player from the 70s named Leroy lol.

I still cannot believe they discontinued this... I have some ml left in my gorgeous bottle and wish they would magically multiply... Amazing scent. The EDP is ok but nowhere close to this unfortunately.

OMG This has been on my to-buy list for a while and now, it is impossible to find! They better not bring it back in that God awful stupid looking bottle that they are now using for the EDP version.

An African friend of mine gifted me of a small votive statue representing a young lady bringing a baby on her back. It celebrates prosperity and it's entirely carved into ebanum. It has the typical woody spicy smell that makes me think about Africa and it's exactly the same smell I get when I smell Idole. This marvellous composition by Olivia Giacobetti opens with a boozy Rum note that evaporates very quickly leaving Ebanum, Saffron and Cumin enough space to show up. In this extremely woody and spicy phase Idole reminded me of some of the CDG classic fragrances (CDG original and White). Despite they don't share many similiarities I find them to be very close in structure, being great examples of a modern interpretation of the woody-spicy oriental theme. The Rum note appears again in the middle phase adding a slight boozy effect that is at the same time pleasant and compelling. In the drydonw (not too distant from Eldo's Tom Of Finland) saffron and a clean leather note bring the fragrance into a very comfortable territory made of warmness and refined sophistication. Marketed as a maculine fragrance I believe it could also do miracles on a woman. Highly recommended. Rating: 8.5/10

Rich, incense-y, and very, very mysterious. An androgynous distinctive and distinguished scent. A very magical potion that can cast a love spell.. perhaps .. Much the way the Creoles liked to do in the French Quarter of New Orleans..... reminds me of Bourbon French Parfums VOODOO LOVE... a deep, earthy fragrance. A re-creation of the special potion Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau gave to her favored clients so they could gain the object of their affections. Rum and exotic spices mingle with dark, smoky woods and leather... you can almost hear the drums beating off in the distance...in Congo Square in the Tremé neighborhood of New Orleans, Louisiana, just north of the French Quarter. Idole opens with a standard boozy, sinuous, sinister labdanum-dominated chord, and then goes darker with smoky leather. Yep, it's one of these Sexy Man In A Bar scents, dark ominous Orientals with a slug of sweet amber. They're all very much alike, but Idole has a slick of airy refinement to it; Giacobetti is known for her minimalist elegance. The bitter orange adds a pop of brightness, and the smoke and sweetness balance out perfectly. The whole thing is rather light and transparent, but still bright and dark like a flickering candle flame. By about an hour in, it's settled into a faint warm rum-and-amber skin scent.

I wish I could like this, because I'm a fan of Lubin. While being a nice fragrance, for reasons described here quite suggestively by others, there is a hyper masculine touch to it which I dislike. On me the strong saffron with leather give something animalic and sweaty. I don't know how women react to such pungent and severe leather, but as a man I can't imagine meeting another man who wears this and not think, "ow c'mon, really? boss gorilla or what?". Anyway, I don't find it warm or comforting. A pity, because the brief spicy and boozy opening with its touch of benzoin was promising.

Interesting, complex and surprising. I read it as hyper-masculine, maybe because of the leather-alcohol punch that opens it. In the next stage it rounds up nicely, spicy and sweet. The smoky, tobacco notes emphasis the masculine outcome. Hard to put my finger on it why, but it reminds me of the 70s, more in spirit than how actually masculine fragrances smelt like – this is how we could imagine the 70s from the 2010s. I must add how much I love the bottle - a classic design!

Yes. Yes. Yes. Nosegasm material. (Uni)sexy silky boozy goodness. Cinnamon, raisins, honey, bitter orange and a heavy helping of warm wood. Smells exactly like I thought it would. This is the type of praline that kids instinctively spit out when they bite into but grownups enjoy.

Comforting rum vibe. Very well done, IMHO better than Jubilation by Amouage. Kind of boozy at the begining and then sets to a skin scent, nice and cozy, a bit 70's revisited. Something like a 007 careebean / cuban style. Simple yet pleasurable.

Cool bottle, great notes, but a bit of a dissappointment for me. It is a unisex fragrance, and the projection and longevity is very poor. Good scent but it's gone very quick (on me).

Specific perfume, if to be honest.

Idole is a something you’ll instantly like upon the first spray, if you are like me, into perfumes with warm and slightly spiciness in it, like L’Artisan’s Havana Vanilla, something sweet, vanilla-y, with some Chai Tea hint, like Etra Etro, or Tobacco Vanilla. The start of Idole is really promising, it’s like orange in a slightly sour and dried way, with a lot of spicy hint, I think it’s the clove. The concoction makes think of orange peel jerky and gives me an instant mouth watering feeling. Later on, it gets smokier, and somewhat reminds me of Kate Moss’ Velvet Hour for the incense-y smell, plus something creamy and spicy, like that you’ll smell from a typical cup of Chai latte. However, somewhere along the line, I smell some kind of aldehyde smell, in a Elizebeth Taylor White Diamond sweet luxury soap way, plus the smokiness. The dry down is a total transformation from the top and middle phase, it’s like the dirty sexy rose and patchouli combo you’ll get from Midnight Poison from Dior, plus nice soft leather (it’s not an overwhelming leather here, and somehow smells quite discreet and comfy). Somehow it has some essence like that from Cabaret from Gres, the dirty clean sweat, plus rose and more. Lovely perfume, but somehow I cannot see me wanting it, for Idole is like a combination of second rated versions of many lovely perfumes, not saying Idole isn’t nice, but it’s like if you love chocolate as it is, solid, and you love drinking milk, as it is, liquid, and not a fan of milkshakes, why bothered to put your beloved chocolate and milk together, and trying so hard to combined them together, in the existence which hinders the merit of both. Anyway, it's still lovely to try Idole on :)

First of all, respect for the bottle, love the Massai ebony style mask and shaped/surfaced bottle, just stunning presentation. Idole opens with a rum, berry and dry spice accord. It's heady but with a transparent quality that reminds me of Duchafour's treatment of Jubiliation XXV. There is a resinous note that I read as opoponax, that lends the body a creamy warmth along with the saffron. The composition perfectly captures the east African island imagery. I see this as no way dark, but representing the sunset/dusk time, just when people are lighting bonfires on the beach. I also detect some smokey campfire notes during the heart of the fragrance which help with the imagery (perhaps the ebony note as listed). The sweetness of the sugarcane is also most apparent during the heart, as opoponax dries off. I experience a little very soft and balmy leather during the drydown. Settles to a skin scent on me after around 4 hours and longevity can still sniff on arm after 8 hours - but it's no powerhouse for sure. What a trip though, a beautiful fragrant experience and very evocative with lots of imagery of exotic locals, in this Olivia Giacobetti has fulfilled the brief with flair. I really like this one and am proud to add it to my collection. Great stuff.

I purchased a sample of Idole EDT awhile back. I tired it once and thought, let me get back to it another time. Well, today is that other time. Idole has a very heavy saffron and boozy opening, as if someone poured a bottle of rum into an entire create of saffron flowers. Over the first couple of hours the saffron is the star of the show. Using the wetness of the rum to spread its scent. A few hours in the rum soaks into the wood of the create, giving off a rum soaked, powdery wood vibe, until a very soft, sandalwood emerges. Idole then becomes a soft creamy wood scent, with hints of rum and saffron, but it sits very close to the skin at this stage. Idole remains there for the life of the fragrance. I get moderate projection and longevity on my skin. This is a trendy casual scent to my nose, but I could wear this in a sports coat. While this is marketed to men, I find this to be a unisex fragrance that leans more to the feminine side, especially in the opening. Overall, not a bad scent, once you get past the heavy floral opening, but Idole does not live up to the hype on my skin. Hopefully it will on yours. I had very high hopes for this one. Based on the notes and reviews it seemed to be right up my alley. But this is a pass for me.

I got a small 2 mil sample just to try this out. I have read so many great things about Idole. First spray went on my forearm., I was impressed with the aroma, a beautiful fragrance. I kept wondering about the parfum version, but I have at times found the original itself was the better fragrance imo. hard to imagine I would like that more. this would be a great scent to wear out into public on a date or even just casual like meeting friends at the local bar. luxurious and inviting, I get a warm feel. I only wish I had more of it to test it for a few different occasions. I will try this in the office, might be one that you need more space around you? Idole doesn't really remind me of anything right off ? That is probably a good thing. Idole would smell wonderful on clothing like a blazer or sweater perhaps?. The projection would be at its best. Masculine scent, but I am sure a woman could pull this off with out much of a hitch. looks to be a little tough to find. wish I would have tried this sooner :( thumbs up)! one of these days I will get around to trying the parfum..but with this one I am in no hurry. it is frustrating when you find something you like and why they felt they needed to replace this is puzzling..

My goodness , this one is love. This is such an amazing fragrance. Tried the EDP version, but it doesn't give me that gorgious sweaty feel. Mancera Sand Aoud, Idole du Lubin, and Dior Homme intense are my 10/10 experiences. But this one, I LOVE IT SO MUCH THAT I only use it for a very very special occasion. I bought this bottle in a small niche shop in Switzerland. The older gentleman who run the shop was almost confident when he suggested that I try this one. First spray, I was intoxicated. This may not be for everyone, many people said that the EDT version smells like a sweat. But am telling you, for me, that exact discription did blow my mind, a million dollar smelling kind of sweat. Just to conclude, this is a solid 10/ 10 frag. It doesn't project necessarily like a monster. Not every frag should screem out loud either.

Female friends said she liked it, but not in a sexy way. she said it reminded her of baby powder, and a "sophisticated old man". after a shower with lots of soap till the hot water run out and a sleep, I could still smell it the next day. 12+ hours after. and can still easily smell it? that is a quality frag. tested uring winter, early to early mid 30s, white skin. i received a 5 ml tester bottle. not to be worn on a date. use in the office if you're a white collar lad. i could see myself using this as a blue collar worker on 12-14 hour shifts very easily. if this was to be gifted to a blue collar worker, after using it for a week i would be surprised if he doesnt call you thanking you for it. the more i smell it, the more i like it, nearly love it.at time of review, i could buy it for $299 AUD. so, this is pricey!!

This is a beautiful Olivia Giacobetti creation for Lubin. I'm surprised how many fragrances I own which were signed by her (Safran Troublant, Philosykos, and now this) but looking at her work, there's a certain thread to her scents. Each fragrance, while certainly different from each other, are very transparent, easy-to-read without being pedestrian, made with top notch raw materials, and have a natural feel to them - regardless of what may be in the actual formula. With Idole (the edt), I sense a sweet dark rum in the top notes, along with orange peel + saffron, a melange of gentle spices (cinnamon, clove, etc.), sugar cane and sandalwood. I'm sure there's more stuff going in here that my nose can't readily identify but that's my impression of the entire affair. Personally, I love it. I will cherish my bottle.

Idole is a beautiful, exotic spicy scent! The opening is dry cinnamon with a hint of orange and the caraway. The rum is also very strong, it is beautiful, dark, sweet and warm blended with heavy saffron. I can also sense orange undertone after a period of time. After a time I sense a very dark fruit stew infused with rum note as well. There is a tinge of a cooling note underneath the rum. Idole is becoming richer, smoky, and a bit woody from the incense and the blend of ebony and sandalwood. The saffron still makes its presence known underneath the notes. I don't get any leather, it is so well-blended for my nose. The drydown is almost like a blend of sweet rum and sandalwood. It is very rare for me to go through the sample vial. Idole, the cool bottle and the warm, sensual fragrance, belongs in my collection.

Idole is an excellent boozy fragrance that combines the boozy accords with warm spices, woody notes, and leather. The fragrance exudes warmth and reminds me of a scorching desert sunset. Although Bently Intense shares a lot of similarities with Idole, the quality of the ingredients and the fine details of the scent are not comparable, and no need to mention the price. Idole was created eight years before Bently Intense. It's possible that the latter was heavily inspired by Idole. If you're a fan of boozy fragrances, you should definitely give Idole a try - the scent is lovely, and the bottle is gorgeous. 7.5/10

This is the fragrance that - along with Lili Bermuda's South Water - reminds me the most of the smells of home. A boozy, leathery sugar-laced woody palm. It lacks the resinous character of so many other popular woody fragrances (check out the Lubin Idole EDP for that) and that's what makes it stand out. Retro, but not in an overpowering 1980s way. Strangely, it smells a lot like Southern Comfort to me. Love the tribal bottle, and much prefer the EDT over the EDP: the EDT is more unique whilst the EDP trods the same spices-resins-woods path of many fragrances before it.

I am always against mixing spirits but I may have to try it since I sampled Idole. The opening is warm spicy rum, and anyone who has ever enjoyed a sip of Captain Morgan Spiced Gold will probably note the similarities. I assume the sweetness is coming from the sugarcane, but it is sweetness with character added from the leather and wood (ebony) notes, and stays throughout. This fragrance should have a cocktail named after it, it really smells delicious. I enjoyed my sample immensely but decided it isn't for me. A high quality fragrance worth checking out.

We've got a date with Old Scratch and we're gonna meet them wearing Idole de Lubin and nothing else. This fragrance is marketed for men which is a bunch of malarkey because this woodsy, darkly spiced scent with notes of saffron, rum, teak wood, and sugarcane would be devastating on anyone who possesses a human body. And speaking of possessing human bodies, our bae Beelz is due to stop by at midnight and this infernal gourmand redolent of unholy smoke, syrupy booze, and leather-clad sin, will make them feel right at home.

I own the EDP, but I kick myself for not getting the African head EDT when was released. This is a spectacular booze fragrance. I discovered Lubin in the 70's when my dad bought Eau Neuve de Lubin (ENDL) and I fell in love. We finished the the small bottle of ENDL. Ebay sprung to life and I was able to find ENDL vintage bottles. Today I own several ENDL (new and vintage). The house (underrated) was reintroduced in the 2000's with new releases like Idole and few others.

It took me a while to really appreciate the beauty of this scent.. I have the EdT and initially i thought it's too harsh and very spicy for my liking but i enjoyed it after few full wearings.. Idole starts off with very boozy accord of rum, followed by a woody and spicy phase and dries down basically to saffron and leather.. I gotta wear it more though but it's perfect for colder weather.. By the way, the bottle is just amazing, it's an art piece itself..

I tried this years ago and likened it to a sweaty guy in polyester at the disco. I tried again recently to see if my nose had changed sufficiently to appreciate it, but no. It's still too heavy for me. Has the rum and resin notes that I like but still a loud perfume-y feel that is like some other woman’s scent, and she has a brash, aggressive fashion style that turns me off. The sweatyness seems diminished, but the loud obnoxiousness is still there. Pass.
