Alina

I got the solid version of this scent because I was afraid of committing to a bottle due to how polarizing the scent seemed to me. After application the scent starts out the same, but I get the sense that it's much more linear and sweeter in the solid compared to my in-store applications of the perfume version. The perfume seemed greener, fresher, brighter. That said, I'll stick with it and keep applying. Despite feeling more linear it's still a complex, spicy-sweet-herby-fresh-which product am I even smelling-Lush DNA scent, and seems to perform well in every type of weather. ETA: It works really well when applied to hair on top of the usual pulse points. It's like a cloud of green spicy sweetness, I'm enjoying it very much! On hair, perhaps because it's not warm like skin, the scent doesn't lose its spiciness as quickly. I love that.

The great thing about Lush perfumes is that if the fragrance is available in stores, it's easy to try before buying. I did that with Alina. The solid perfume I tried in store was a lot more interesting than the solid perfume I ended up buying online at a later stage. The one I tried in store changed scents over time – it started off as being a slightly sweet coriander scent (which I initially hated because I don't like coriander haha) but then that transformed into a smell that smells evocative of walking past a Lush store. The generic Lush smell. Really nice. Towards the end, it smells a little bit citrusy and a bit animalic on me. The solid perfume I received from my online order just smells like herbal soap. It's fine. I have received a complement while wearing it, actually. But this is not why I bought Alina. Seems like variations across batch scents can happen based on online reviews, both with the solid and liquid perfumes. Sad. I also do not like the packaging. It's not a wind up bullet packaging and instead, the perfume must be pushed up from the bottom of the bullet. I have pushed mine up too much by accident during a 38°C day. It lives in the fridge now until the solid perfume shrinks back into its packaging again because I couldn't push it back in without smushing the product altogether. Overall, I still like the Alina I do have. It's nice. But not as unique as the one I tried in store. Shame. But because of this, I would actually repurchase again to see if I can get a different smelling Alina next time.

Very granola, very fresh, very green, very peppery, very farmers market, very hipster... there is something cool about it, but the scent doesn’t quite land for me, this spicy, grass cutting smell, that I hoped would imitate this one green Gucci perfume that literally smelled like grass... overall Shade remains my favourite Lush scent.
