Breath Of God

Step into this olfactory Tibetan prayer tent, inside of which you are transported across centuries by the redolence of burning incense and oil lamps. Just before you feel as though you might float away, you are grounded by the scent of the earthen floor rising to meet the animalic essences of the hides and furs comprising the tent. As your eyes adjust to the lighting inside, the wind blows something ozonic down from the peaks of the mighty snow-capped Tibetan mountain ranges, sweeping across verdant grasslands to deliver a fresh and sweet vegetal bouquet which dances in the air with smoke from the incense and oil lamps. Or just go to Lush and try it ... To be specific, I only use the solid version of this. I was instantly captivated by this fragrance. I love how the melon plays with the neroli and vetiver, which are two of my favorite notes. The smoke, at least in the solid version, and on my skin, is background to me, though my wife has stated she identifies the smoke note quite easily. The smoke quality is likely created by the way the incense and cedar dance around each other, rather than a smoky isolate, and I feel like that dance is what I'm picking up on, which is much more heady than some synthetic smoke bomb, many of which I have smelled, and this is not that. I should note that I also love A City on Fire by Imaginary Authors, which, despite its "burnt match" description, I again feel the smoke accord is simply a narrative holding the rest of the fragrance's story together, and actually takes a back seat as that fragrance dries down into something more sweet but with lots of dynamic accords, just like BOG, which is why I like both fragrances. Both are well built, but if your skin pH does weird things with smoke notes, or you just have no olfactory sensibility for these notes, then perhaps it isn't for you. Otherwise, step into the tent ... BOG made me love fragrances that I call "ambrosias," by which I mean they have a lot going on. I frequently experiment with trying to create my own "ambrosia" by layering different fragrances. I know that's done, but I feel like people don't do it all that commonly because they are afraid of the potential results. I thought it was funny when I read "The Perfect Scent" by Chandler Burr and found out that Sarah Jessica Parker also did this by layering an oil she bought from an Islamic goods hawker on the streets of NY, a cheap drugstore musk, and I think Guerlain Vetiver, though now I forget exactly what the third layer was. Anyway, I felt confirmed in this practice as I read about her sheepishly explaining this habit to the creative team at Coty. BOG is at once grounding and transporting. Seasonally it is a shape shifter, as I find it can be fresh in the summer and warm in the winter. As for formality, it is probably on the more casual side, though anything goes if you can pull it off, or create your own "ambrosia" ;)

@NathaliePee: tobacco as a note doesn’t smell smokey at all. Tobacco is now a warm herbal smell; the smell of dry tobacco/tobacco leaves NOT smoke. It can smell like opening a pouch of tobacco, or smelling a cigar (before it’s lit, the cigar itself) it can even smell like rubbing fresh tobacco leaves between your fingers, but it will never smell like smoke, because that simply isn’t what tobacco smells like. Smoke smell is mainly incense and sometimes leather notes can be perceived as smoke. Incense is listed here and that’s what makes this fragrance Smokey. On to my review: I hadn’t worn this in a while so I forgot how absolutely amazing this is. I’m trying to go easy on my bottle because I only have a 30ml one and it’s now way more expensive than when I bought it, but DANG! This genuinely is the breath of god! It’s just THAT good! Let me start by saying that this fragrance is NOT a safe blind buy at all. It doesn’t smell good on everyone. My skin really brings forward the sweet notes, making it a delicious blend of sweet and smokey, but depending on ones skin either can be overpowering and especially with just the dark smokey smells it can smell very harsh. This is a very well blended fragrance. I don’t really pick up individual notes except for the incense. There’s something almost menthol like in the sweet notes, making it feel like your lungs open up more when you inhale. Sometimes from a distance I pick up the juniper with a hint of lemon (which is also a bit that can make this smell horrible if it’s pronounced strongly on your skin, because it’s kinda sharp). This fragrance Is definitely unisex and also unique amongst both male and female perfumes. I’ve never smelled anything that even remotely resembles it. It is gorgeous and special. To me as a woman the is the ULTIMATE boss lady fragrance. It DEMANDS attention. She’s so confident and powerful in her suit with pointy shoulder pads. There’s no bull$h!tting this lady. She’s mesmerising and magnetising. There’s sweetness and softness despite her power. She’s gentle when she needs to, but oh so powerful. She’s not everyone’s cup of tea, she’s no girl next door, she is.. the kind of woman that can and will rule the world. Wait a few minutes after spraying to smell this, the first whiff isn’t very pleasant, but the sweetness comes forward after about a minute.

It would take a whole day now for anyone to read all that’s been commented here. Should I even add anything? I agree that it’s definitely unsexy, yet marvelous. You won’t feel like using it every week - sooner or later you’ll give it a break. I love its chameleon nature. I think the base that it eventually dries down to shouldn’t be so controversial at all. It’s an intelligently blended, complex soapy light base, leaving only the memory of the weird-fruity opening and the incense stages. B.O.G is one of the best and most interesting experiences I’ve ever had in my life. Yes, I said experiences, not just perfumes. Despite all my admiration, it should be added that the poor longevity is a let-down. You’ll get 20-30 minutes of the fruity-smoky astonishment, than you’re left with no more than a high-end scented skin, detectable only at close sniffing... which also applies to the majority of Lush perfumes, the subtle difference being that B.O.G. is quite adequatley priced. I prefer using it AT HOME. Rating: 🥰😳 Do I like it: Yes Who it is: a monk Smells I get: so many, mostly woods and smoke Meyer's Briggs type: INFJ, INTJ This was my entry point into the world of perfumery. It starts like a church incense smoke bomb, which makes you question your choices. however, this phase is - though pungent - rather short. The heart, and the drydown however... they are sweet, exotic, but also like coming home to a warm, up sunny house to meditate. And they last... well, forever. Turns out that this was the exact intent of the maker - it is a mix of two perfumes inspired by buddhist temples in east asia, and it was supposed to be a journey to the center of the temple. And yeah, well, it feels exactly like that. Most people don't like it up close, especially the opening, but the drydown made many a lady compliment me with their mouth watering (mind you - i'm a very average looking woman). I prefer the solid over the liquid, as this majestic transformation is much more pronounced, and the drydown notes are much more beautiful and longer lasting (up to the second day). I used to have the solid first, and God, it was a love. Later on, i bought the liquid, and this perfume has aged now - as have i - and my bottle is more than 6 years old. It never went rancid (or sour), but has lost a bit of smoke and settled more into an old papyrus vibe with sweet undertones, sortof an old book smell, if you will. I don't think I'll ever be able to forget this perfume, as it was my signature (of sorts) for most of my late teens and early twenties, when i wanted to rebel and be myself, rather than the candy bomb that seems to be associated with perfumes from younger women nowadays. I wanted to be a temple, a layered creature, and so i was. Anyway, get the solid. It's an amazing art of perfume at this price.

Apparently, God likes a big, rich dinner where He also gets completely inebriated. His belch into your face tells you that he is a fan of heavily oaked Scotch whisky, smoked meats, rosewater sweets, and peppered vegetables squeezed with lemon juice. You first notice the whisky, and the lemon juice flecked vegetables. The whisky seems to be of the Islay variety with its extreme peaty-ness and burnt oak barrel notes pushing boozy alcoholic heat into your face. Black pepper and lemon juice on top of bitter green vegetables join in. The next belch brings up his dessert of Turkish Delight that is less sugar and more rosewater, dense and chewy, and a bit banana-sugar-starchy from ylang-ylang. Belch number three is a blast of wood smoked red meat, woody incense-y, and very fatty and unctuous. Belch number four sort of comes back to the floral dessert. And back and forth the aromas go while you wonder how many more burps God has left in Him. At some points BoG is quite pushy and a bit rude, making it a bit hard to handle, but at other times - most of the time, honestly - it's gloriously weird, very complex and dynamic, and simply divine. If you expect God's breath to be a chorus of angel's singing, a backdrop light of the sun casting golden and heavenly rays behind the choral angels, white plushy linen clouds flanking roads of gold coated with flower petals, etc., stay far away from this. God is a drunk, a lout - an old Frenchman that smokes a cigarette in between big mouthfuls of barbequed meat and slugs of liquor in his dusty, old, Provencal villa. Billy Joel said he'd "rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints," but Breath of God makes no such distinctions. Hallelujah and praise be.

It took me a few tries with store testers to *get* this one. I was really thrown off initially with the head shop incense bomb, which lasts for about 10-15 minutes directly on the skin. After that dissipates I was left with a clean-smelling aftershave type scent where the wood and spice notes are really prominent. Finally wearing down into a soapy fresh floral/conifer accord around 4-6 hours in. This is one of the first fragrances where I’ve been able to decipher the “story” of progression throughout the day. It was really fun to be able to smell my wrist every 30-45 minutes and have different notes come out every time. If you know what you’re getting into it’s fascinating and beautiful, but if you don’t like hippie scents and aren’t prepared for the opening it leaves a very bad impression. It was a scrubber first time I tried it but now it’s one of my favorites. One thing though is you MUST be otherwise clean when you wear this. If you’re not freshly showered your b.o. and the perfume can amplify each other in a really unpleasant way, and maybe that’s where some of the people getting stale cigarette or meat notes are coming from. However, I know my skin chemistry is pretty favorable for scents with cumin/ dry spice notes that people name as “dirty”, namely this and Rose 31. Side note; they don’t sell the solid version or the smaller travel sizes of this in US stores anymore, I had to buy mine secondhand. Per the lush subreddit this is apparently being discontinued as part of their mainline collection and only the 100mL version will be available in the “perfume library.” Huge bummer as lush has been WAYYY too into those infernal vanilla gourmand fragrances for my taste lately.

Like most insufferable snobs I was lead to venture into the trippy-hippy Lush store to try their revival of BNTBTBB's "Breath of God," given five stars or some such ilk by pompous genius and loveable curmudgeon, Luca Turin. His review, as I member it, described the original version as a juxtaposition between smoke and fruit. I sort of expected plums and incense - like a smokey, filthy J'adore. That is not what I got. "Breath of God" smells like, upon initial application, harsh, twiggy woodsmoke, a bit like a very raw cannabis. I found the opening to be pervasive and loud, like wearing a neon billboard that says "I smoke a lot a weed! Deal with it!" It was something I found intriguing, but sort of one-dimensional. It didn't even smell that good. Two hours in, Breath of God started to do something magical, something I didn't think most modern releases bothered with anymore: It started to evolve. Over the course of the first two hours, the burnt-twiggyness of the incense opening got high on itself and melted into a beautiful, smokey and lightly sweet floral, with little bits of lily and jasmine and a tiny smidgen of rose. The whole thing seems weirdly fresh. It must be the barely perceptible amounts of citrus and herbs simply lightening the whole thing. This is a modern, vegan interpretation of Cabochard: A cruelty-free pleather and smoke fragrance with a witty, minty freshness. Gres, are you taking notes?

got a sample of this in a lush perfume discovery set that i bought specifically for other perfumes in the set. this one was absolutely my least favourite in the set when i first got it (in fact i actively disliked it), but over the course of a few months it has become my favourite and even something of a signature scent. it's so wonderfully grassy and woody and sharp. the very first time i wore it i was only brave enough to spray it in the air and walk through it bc it's so strong and strange, but now i wear multiple sprays of it and smelling it makes me go ahhhhh😌🥰. i see on here that it's especially popular as a cool weather scent but honestly extremely hot summer weather is what made me fall in love with it. there were so many moments over the course of this past summer when the heat made me (personally) not want to wear something too feminine or sweet/fruity, and this was what i reached for instead. i find breath of god is so fresh and vegetal that it almost has a cooling effect on super hot days. there was also one extremely hot sunny day i wore this on a walk and it mixed sooo beautifully with the smell of trees that had been cooking in the sun all day - the memory of that smell is now one of my most beloved perfume/scent memories. breath of god is a love for me, and a reminder that often it's worth giving perfumes time and more than one try before writing them off.

My rotten soldier, my sweet cheese, my good time boy. This scent's been my ride or die for the last 13 years. I will fight anyone that says they don't like it. But really, it's very divisive. Most have hated it, a few have liked it, almost nobody has loved it. For me though, it's summer in a scent. I wore this fragrance every summer for about 5 years straight. It's become calcified in my brain as the scent of adventure, road trips and camping. I have a few versions of it from different years, and the horrifically expired solid version I have of it from 2015 is still the best for me personally. I don't know if I feel as strongly for the reformulated liquid version, but it's close enough. Folks are right when they say it smells a little like cigarettes. It smells like a busy hostel, or like an old 70's motel lobby. But at the risk of smelling musty, it fortunately swerves away. The sharp pepper, juniper, and citrus really give it life. The woody base keeps it earthy and balanced, and the melon adds a really unique twist. It's an incredibly unique fragrance, and it packs a punch, with really excellent sillage and longevity. It would be my signature scent, but it's too abrasive for everyday, all-year use IMO. Again, it's divisive, and I don't think I'd want to wear a fragrance all the time that half the population didn't really like the smell of.

Please, I beg of you, if you find the opening scent offensive, try this on your skin then put on a sweatshirt and forget about it for a few hours and then come back to experience the magical dry-down. The scent notes change ever so slightly every hour which takes you on the most beautiful journey. BOG is life-changing, and the scent that singlehandedly introduced me to the world of perfume. It is so harsh and soft at the same time, and will transport you to another world entirely. I agree with all other reviews that there is an essence of dank smoke but in a nice, nostalgic way like how my grandma's VW Bug smelled with the OG little trees air freshener to mask the smell of cigarette smoke. The smoke is such a small piece to the puzzle that also brings a soft melon, vetiver, neroli, and overall just a musky freshness that smells like the best parts of an old-fashioned barber shop. I actually prefer the solid perfume on this one, and I currently own 3 just in case this ever gets discontinued. Just a dab on each wrist is enough that I smell it all day and more when I move my arms, but other people in the room don't notice it unless I offer my wrist to smell, in which case almost everyone seems to love it. I find it to be perfectly unisex with my skin chemistry, and would recommend everyone gives it a try.

There is something about this one that just keeps luring you back in. You can't decide if you like, love or hate it, but it will keep playing tricks on you to seduce you with its different notes. When you eventually decide you do actually love it, don't over spray! After having had a few months break from BoG & then receiving my 100ml bottle in the post, (bargain from Vinted!), I excitedly did just that & it went up my nose & down my throat, totally ruining the experience for myself. Over spraying also intensified the smokiness of it on me which I put up with whilst going for a walk in the woods but had to wash off when I got home. I still love BoG & something in it reminds me so much of my late father, which I find very comforting depending on when I smell it. At other times it can make me feel sad. Sometimes, even when I don't want to wear it, I get the urge to take a deep sniff from my tin of the solid version & it's just enough to satisfy my craving, uplifting & calming me at the same time. I will always have at least a solid version of this because it really is quite a unique & special fragrance. Update 16/01/24: Cannot bear the spray anymore since having COVID in October! :( Can tolerate the solid, but in small doses.

I have a few Lush scents that I enjoy but I was doing more reading about their fragrance offers and Breath Of God was intriguing so I had to stop by and try it out. I have been wearing BOG for two days now and feel I have a handle on this fragrance on my skin. BOG starts out, on me, with a very noticeable Neroli and strong turpentine scent from the Juniper and Cedar, it quickly looses the turpentine scent and becomes very fruity, the melon is very strong. After a very short time, half an hour, the dry down is a velvety, sweetish rose sandalwood. Every now and then I catch a whiff of what I am sure is Neroli again and perhaps some vetiver. I get no smoky nor lemon from this. I love this scent, it is what I would consider as delicious, though it is not strong on me and does not project far, which makes it perfect for work. I did notice because it is fairly hot out that while riding the bus I would catch a stronger whiff of the scent which was very pleasing. It is a scent that makes me happy. No scent is for everyone and I would not tell anyone to buy this without first trying on themselves. To do any scent justice you have to get away from other scents in the air and let it all develop.

Breath of God I wore this a few days ago and a stranger described the scent as "intimidating but beautiful" and that was why he chose to continue to stand near me, so he could take in the scent and try to understand it. Breath of God is my first ever fragrance purchase from Lush and it won't be my last, I'll definitely repurchase this once i'm done with my bottle and i'll have to look further into their other offerings as well. To me this smells both smokey and fruity, both dark and light, both fresh but also quite heavy- it's a fragrance of contradictions, almost bi-polar in a way and I enjoy how it plays out my skin. I like to imagine a man smoking an old-fashioned pipe in a dark room at a table where a bowl of ripe fruit is placed in the middle of the table and exhales a cloud of tobacco over the fruit, with a smile on his face. It lasts around 4-5 hours on my skin but lasts for days on my clothes. I did try the 'solid perfume' version of this fragrance and to me they smell completely different, it's definitely not as complex or interesting as the spray.

Apparently god smokes menthols and doesn't shower. Which checks out honestly. I love this fragrance for so many reasons but the primary one is that many of these notes I dislike generally and will even avoid but here they blend and work together so well. Those notes are specifically melon, mint, black pepper, rose and grapefruit. If I had checked the notes before smelling I probably wouldn't have bothered at all and isn't that wonderful? A reminder to branch out every so often. To try what you've never liked to see if you can enjoy it. Breath of God is a fragrance that contradicts itself. It evokes filth on open. Dirty, sweaty skin, cigarette and incense ashes in a room with little ventilation, grime and dust and then oh I'm in the Lush store at the mall and my hands are being dipped into a large silver basin glistening with an ET bubble bar, like baby Jesus swaddled in cheesecloth. He fizzles to milky orange nothingness and I am made anew and in His image. Clean. Pure and sinless. 10/10 I'm truly Blessed to own this.

Complexity vs. Value. Challenging vs. Love at first sniff. This is the beginning of my relationship with Breath. I admit the first weakness and knock is the name. Unique concept and inspiration but a bold name choice that may have raised the bar too high. However, it is very under appreciated and at such cheap pricing for "niche" and very high level of naturals it is worth a sniff. The scent itself is very unique and I discovered vetiver is the most dominant note and the other notes are supporting except incense which challenges the vetiver to take over the scent. It is smokey, woody, and clearly interesting. But I think It will grow on you the more you wear it and it will change during the day and with the weather. This is not by accident, this is a trademark of skill and quality naturals. It also can be layered really well as the scent is actually a combination of two stand alone scents; if you find it falls short of your taste. I am happy to own it and would encourage if you get a chance to wear it, do. 4/5

Hard to understand how a store such as LUSH can produce such a polarising scent: I've long said how off-putting LUSH is as a store for a man to visit. But in this day and age, this should be no excuse. Breath of God really surprises. As a totally unisex scent, the scent opens with florals underpinned by a certain smokiness that is fruity-fresh and yet addictive. It is never over-powering, even with several sprays, and lasts well into the night or the next day. The dry-down though is really sublime. Gentle, incense-like smoke, neroli, ylang-ylang, pepper and rose really do stick out. But the juice is blended together so well, it's hard to tell exactly what you are smelling at any one time. The trail left behind is really something else and appeals to even the most conservative noses. I find it's one of few scents I would wear again in the same week (maybe even the same day). I may never find out what God's breath smells like, but this one sure took mine away!

I absolutely love this one. This is a truly unique fragrance. It is full-blown incense - cedar- rose on my skin, but I talked with a shop assistant in LUsh shop and we tried it on her, and wow what a difference: no smokiness on her, no incense at all (!!!) just citrus and melon! (I cannot detect any melon on my skin, not at all!) So a word of warning with this one: TRY IT ON YOUR SKIN! Do NOT blind buy it. It does behave very differently depending on your skin chemistry!! I happen to love the comfy smokiness and incense on me, and the rose is just sweet enough underneath that bazar-like spicy scent. However, there are days when this is just too much. As with all the Lush Gorilla perfumes that I have tried, this too has amazing sillage. It lasts forever. Put it on in the morning and I can still smell it in the evening when I take my shower. So not a perfume to be worn in open office space... Still, a wonderful perfume. Need to buy another bottle!

A strange fragrance. It can be challenging, but there's something undeniably rewarding here. At first, it just smelled like salt to me. It didn't even read as a perfume. However, for some reason I went back for more. This scent smells a little different to me every time I wear it. Sometimes I get salt air, sometimes intense smoky incense that is almost like an ashtray which then dissolves into a fresh fruity melon with herbal compliments. Sometimes I get fresh hay. My description doesn't sound great, but it's actually a very beautiful fragrance, and one of my favourites because it is ever mysterious and surprising. However, it is not always a crowd pleaser. I have gotten complements on this fragrance but my boyfriend doesn't like it at all. I usually wear this during some relaxing alone time. It is perfect for a walk on a crisp autumn day. Great fragrance but not for everyone!

Confirmation, as if we needed it, that God smokes 40 a day. The roar of smoke in the opening is off putting to a lot of people but I find it calming, which is unsurprising given how often I use a cigarette as a way to self soothe. BoG is one of my favourite 'weirdo' scents that I wear when I'm not trying to please anyone but me, and even I wouldn't wear it to the office for fear of someone thinking I had been chewing on a nicotine patch. Once the initial smokey carnage dries down you're left with notes of burnt incense, sparkly citrus/melon and uplifting neroli, none of which should go together as well as these do. The end effect is of a silent, deserted, cool temple where you can seek respite from the heat and noise of the rest of the world. It's meditative and introspective and supremely complex, and for all its weirdness I find myself drawn to it almost constantly.

★★★★★ A scent of a different era that manages to always stay relevant and never smell dated. A contrast between light and dark. I've read that the inspiration of both perfumes (Inhale/Exhale) that result to Breath Of God was Tibetan temples. The most fascinating part about it is that one can definitely feel the mysterious nature of something sacred and ancient but at the same time an essence of herbal minty masculines of the late 80s - early 90s (Horizon, Drakkar) changes the tone. Is there anything more charming than a perfume shapeshifting with each wear? A journey through incense-heavy ancient sceneries of the unknown, to sometimes nostalgic and familiar calone-melon infused memories of carefree millennial childhood. An intriguing blend of divine apothecary imagery through an "a la Provence" lens. A time transcendent elixir.

My late father was a smoker & used to use a fresh smelling blue soap called Shield. This perfume smells just like him! I like to wear it when I want to feel close to him. The nostalgia is immense. The comfort is tinged with sadness & longing. I own the spray & solid (in the discontinued arty tin). I don't wear either of them often, but sometimes find myself just sniffing the solid in the tin. It instantly transports me to being with my late Daddy. I will always own this perfume for that reason. In its own right, on other days, I like it for empowering me. It makes me feel confident. I have good days when I wear this on empowering days. For me, this perfume means so much. I can't explain it, but it holds a place in my heart. I hope they keep this one around forever, although, I'd expect the 100ml to last me a good long while.

I’ve had this perfume for a while. Bought a larger bottle when the small ran out. This is a lovely, artful, soulful, distinctive perfume. I love the atmospheric yet grounding quality. On one friend it turns much sweeter and more feminine. On myself it retains the ozone like petrichor quality that I love. Along with something bitter but pleasant. This is a fun perfume to layer. It is still very recognizable when layered but makes other things more interesting that lack depth. This is a perfume I wear when I just want something interesting. Or want to smell that cloud like magic. But it’s also what I wanted when I was grieving a loved one. And what I wanted to wear when searching for a new house. It is very grounding, and it heightens your awareness, brings you to your senses since it’s so unique.

Opens with an acrid, industrial patent leather shoe aroma mixed with grilled (and severely burnt) melons, not unlike a forgotten melon kebab buried in a pasture full of damp, horse-trodden soil. Make it past God's-halitosis opening and you'll find a beautifully smooth and delicately sweetened, earthy melon scent. If smell could have a texture, which I do believe it does, this is quite like moist, soft clay, or smooth red bean paste. A lovely and peaceful scent with power behind it. Remember to spray this on about 45min - 1 hour before before your plans if you want to wear it out. ETA: Something about the opening of Breath of God is disgusting but I cannot stop wearing it, I gravitate towards its meditative, calming, soil-like melon qualities after initial industrial blast dissipates.

This is the same melon aromachemical found in numerous other things, obfuscated by a variety of other ingredients. It is a little smoky, but I don't get the BBQ thing at all. To me it's just noisy melon, after many wears over the years. That would be a good name for it: "Noisy Melon". Very cool, very artful, very loose. Has its own personality. Unpredictable, but not too weird. For me it's something you put on when you can't decide on anything else and want to make a statement that you're different, not conforming, but not something that's going to offend anyone. It is decidedly non-conformist, but just barely. Fits squarely in the "niche" category because it's art. A total classic, and will be for a very long time. Trustworthy. 10/10, etc., for the cool people who know how to live.

First whiff is cray cray. It's very sharp and medicinal, almost petrol-like. But on my skin it soon starts to develop into a soft, lush (hehe) and wonderfully unique perfume. It has incense, melon, sandalwood and woods. Unfortunately it's not as long lasting as I would have wished for, but it's no problem for me to add some more. I have it in liquid and solid, haven't tried yet if together they would have more staying power. I love this perfume, I have nothing else like this. It's maybe a tad masculine, but I don't feel like it's a manly perfume at all. It just is like God, both feminine AND masculine. For me that's perfection. And the name, oh the name. I love it. It's cool to wear a perfume that's Breath of God. No silly cheriés or what ever.

There’s something so melancholic about Breath of God. It’s like a walk in the woods just as autumn turns to winter, and you can kind of smell things dying in the hedgerow. It’s smoky, almost rainy, with a kick of cedar and something dark and cloying, almost like rotting leaves. At the same time, its top notes are bright and citrusy (you can really pick it up on a paper sample - on the skin it immediately turns deeper, darker and less sour). Personally I think it's a cult classic, but I do understand why people dislike it. It's always going to be one of my favourites, and I consider it a very high quality fragrance at a very reasonable price tag. Recommended.

Not a safe blind buy. Get the solid if you don't LOVE the idea of being a big, bold incense bomb. I tried both the liquid and the solid multiple times on separate days and ended up purchasing the solid. The liquid is warmer, smokier. The solid is greener, woodier, and is more of a skin scent - with such a polarising scent, that's a pro for me. It smells cold and meditative. Pairs well with Tom of Finland/Clean Suede by ELDO if you want a cool, dominant fragrance that commands attention. No difference in the lasting power between the formulations on my skin. If you overspray this, I'm going to crawl out of the screen and squirt you with Febreze.

(solid perfume review) intense & moody is absolutely right- but not really sad, more like clear-headed, overly so. overwhelmed by just being alive lol. it reminds me of a quiet morning after a campfire revelry the night before. alone by the lake right before sunrise in clothes you've worn for 3 days while waiting for everyone else to wake up, rolling up smoke-infused sleeping bags and silently picking up crushed cans of rainier. as you drive down the mountain towards home the light comes out behind the clouds and the day sweetens, getting warmer and stickier (that subtle melon note in the drydown)

I’m an absolute sucker for a smoky woody vetiver-heavy fragrance and I mean....wow.....they really outdid themselves with this one. What a treasure this is. I gave this to my boyfriend and it’s now his signature scent but I’m really wishing it was mine lol. It’s a polarizing scent indeed but you have to admit, it’s quite a masterpiece. The melon is SUCH an unexpected note; with such an intense and moody profile it shouldn’t work, but it really rounds everything out flawlessly. If you want a very special and transportive unisex fragrance, Breath of God is it.

Very unique juice, I get this very distinctive smell of petrichor (attar Mitti) reminds you of rain, it also smells dry woods and some fruit with incense, definitely not a blind buy but for sure a unique scent that will make you stand out and smell different without going to crazy, here in the middle east they have changed the name to Inhale Exhale ( more appropriate religiously i guess) if you pass by a lush shop and you are into weird stuff, spray some of their Cardamom Coffee perfume, that one is also lovely. cheers

An unique high quality scent , on which its name fits perfectly. You can check there are like 20 esential oils in it, so the smell is of high quality juice , nothing synthetic. Suitable for strong men , cant imagine smelling this on my wife. Earthy moss in a rainy forest. I accidentaly mixed it Ice hint (bvlgari glacial essence ) and it become irresistable and addictive scent . Great value for its price as even the top dollar brands doesnt contain real oils. As i said its unique scent. 9/10

I feel like this would be best described as a chypre scent that has tapestries of celestial objects on her walls, burns incense, loves thrift stores, headshops, and 2 Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's. It's odd and different from anything else I own but I absolutely adore it. My husband picked it out for me, it's definitely not something I would have chosen for myself but I LOVE THIS. I will cat fight anyone in an Applebee's parking lot if they talk dirty about her.

Love me some funky juice. Ever so slight fruity BO smell at first (in a good way). Dry down is much more wearable - rich and woody. I would probably wait 10 minutes before leaving home after spraying, so that I can enjoy the funk without fear of offending. Having said that, I don't think it's actually an unapproachable scent in the same way that the zoologist line can be - it's just different from the mainstream. A truly interesting scent. Overall: 9/10.

Breath of god is such a relaxing meditative type of fragrance. It has a delicious incence note but also very refreshing from the melon. Such a perfect combination. I love wearing this one to bed it is so calming and really makes you able to breath really well because it does smell like incence and fresh clean air from a mountain top that opens up your nose. It is unisex but leans slightly more masculine to my nose but really mellow so good for women to.

Odd, oil and water concoction of a deep, incense/woody/vetiver half and a frivolous melon/citrus/floral half fighting for dominance throughout the development, with each claiming moments of fleeting victory and retreat. They never come together or cooperate, but the nose / mind amalgamates the signals into something interesting and compelling and more than the sum of its disjointed parts. A funky, fun fragrance that is the antithesis of formal.

This is one of my favorite perfumes. I can understand why it's polarizing. On my skin it's allll warm notes and smoke and juniper - I can't parse any of the floral or citrus notes. And somehow it still feels like a cold smoke scent. A little goes a long way with this perfume and it lasts forever. If I overapply it causes a headache. I don't wear it often because it's easy to overapply. My bottle is around 5 years old and it's still potent.

Love the name and it's vegan so had to try it. When it opened I recoiled in horror, urgh so medicinal, like antiseptic but after a while it settles and wow love it in the dry down! So unique, still a hint of antiseptic but so much more, also warm and comforting. Liked it so much I bought the biggest bottle and I'm wearing it now. IF there is a God maybe his breath would smell like this! Hello little weirdo indeed. Love it.

take note, reviewing the solid perfume. absolutely love it. this thing has personality. incredibly versatile, all occasion all season fragrance. I pick up camphor in addition to the other notes which are strong on incense, melon, and vetiver. not a strong projection but 4-6 hours longevity. waffling between this and fin du monde for my signature. will be interesting to re-review when I splurge for the liquid. 10/10

breath of god is more like a wisened, dusty smoker's cough, provided that god is smoking as much chinese medicinal herbs out of a long ornate pipe as they are cigarettes and hookah. somehow has the sensibilities of both a buddhist temple and a 2000s magazine ad for a fragrance with a shirtless male model on it, ancient and mysterious but not so far away from us that we can't relate to it. oddly comforting.

As many have said, the dry down is so so beautiful. The opening is very smoky, in sort of a charred, campfire way, (which I personally love) but after a few hours it fades into an incredible woody incense note that also strikes me as sort of leathery. I'm not sure I get the melon note, but there is definitely something bright and fruity that cuts through the darkness like a breath of fresh air.

Well, hello there, my Little Weirdo . I chose you, as the Smell of Weather Turning was unavailable. You are reminiscent of my Grandpa`s hair grooming cream, and aftershave. Fresh, woodsy, fires and incense burning exotic. Green, webbed hide, dewy melon smoke. Dry , crackling, and dampness. Quite interesting unions. A stand out, a surprise, yet a comfort .

Campfire smoke as soon as you put it on, but fades quickly into bright, clean aromatics with a very sexy, sensual depth. Reminds me of Versace Eros but with less mint and more wood. Right now I only have the solid perfume which sits very close to the skin and fades faster than I'd like, I've heard the spray has a different profile.

This is sssmokin magical. A magic smoke. Its breath smells of so many things. It is medicinal, it’s trashy. It’s subliminal, it’s flashy. It’s vetiver, and everything but vetiver. A melon from Earth 2. This fragrance makes me want to throw a lemon on the grill, add some thyme and mushrooms, and eat it with milk chocolate. *****

I love this perfume. It’s in my top 5 best perfumes I’ve ever owned. It is so different, interesting, intelligent, ever changing, evocative, soothing, outdoors-y. You must try it if you love perfume. It might blow your mind, and your preconceptions. Superb and insanely affordable in the solid formulation.

I completely love this, but I can see why so many people wouldn't. This smells like no other fragrance I own, very natural, really concentrated, completely bonkers notes, quirky... the list goes on. Just go in store and try it, you might love it!

hit at once quite powerfully as deeply smoky, almost more of a stink than a scent. one that i found quite compelling though. after half an hour or so mellowed out quite a lot into a much sweeter and spicier tone. love the dynamism and magnetism.

I have the solid perfume and I really really love this smell! It's giving incense, a bit of smokyness, lots of melon and something fresh/minty. Somehow it feels warming and cooling at the same time, which keeps me coming back to it.

One of my favorites from lush. It smells blue but without any marine notes. Cold but spicy, really moody. It is a little masculine but not in that eating-ice-and-glass-punch-a-tree kind of way a lot of male oriented scents are.

Starts like industrial burnt rubber with melancholic morning dew (maybe watching a fresh sunrise through tears?), then settles as the generic Lush shop scent that is on fire. Edgy and perfect in its own way, a love for me.

I love this fragrance. It just reminds me of my childhood, I don't know why. It's woodsy, but fruity as well. It has melony notes. To me, it's a summer scent. The sillage is great. It's definitely a masculine scent. 5/5
