Frangipani

I have owned this fragrance since the 2020 Christmas sales. On first wearing this was a strong like. The Guaiac Wood was very forward and sharp, which gave the fragrance a definate herbal, leathery edge. The sandalwood was strong too, as was the bitter almond. The floral aspects only came through, faintly, at the very end of the dry down. I am a big fan of Lush fragrances. They use a lot of natural materials and generally benefit from being left to macerate for a longer period. So it was stored away in it's box, in a cool dark cabinet, until the next cool season. As I'd anticipated, the initial strong Guaiac Wood had mellowed, taking the medicinal edge almost completely away, allowing the tuberose to come forward more. Again, as the weather warmed it was carefully stored away. Two years on, the cooler temperatures and darker evenings have me craving warm, rich, woody scents. So today I unboxed my bottle of Frangipani and applied 3 sprays. The Sandalwood is now more dominant than the Guaiac Wood, combined with the almond (which is now sweeter), giving a warm, creamy, woody, Suede like opening. After around an hour, the buttery Tuberose and slightly spicy Frangipani can definitely be detected, turning this into a wonderfully narcotic fragrance. Now it's a love ❤️ Many offerings from Lush have a tendency to be overwhelming when first sprayed. They need patience and time to settle. Often the heavier scents (Sikkim Girls, Goddess, Death and Decay etc), benefit from being carefully stored for a longer period of time, allowing them to mellow and combine further. The same applies to the lighter perfumes (What Would Love Do, Yog Nog, Sappho, Sun), which keep their charms but intensify into stronger scents with improved longevity and projection. Think of Lush fragrances as a fine Single Malt Scotch. They generally improve with age! As long as they are stored correctly 😊

Like many others I blind bought this in the yearly Lush sale. I mainly got it because I read that it has similarities to my beloved Almond Blossom shower gel and Snowflake body cream, which is true. I like to layer them both with this perfume. They smell like a clean baby made of marzipan. Sweet, innocent, almond-like and extremely creamy. But Frangipani is a little more complex. The guaiac wood is noticeable, especially in the opening. It's a wood note that has creamy facets, but also a hint of leathery bitterness that cuts through all the creamy sweet almond glory. I also get some unlisted citrus, kind of like bergamot oil. When you look at the ingredients, you'll see that this contains limonene, so it's likely there is some citrus in this that they just didn't list. After a few hours sandalwood comes out and shifts the texture from creamy to a little more powdery. The floral notes are rather subdued. No idea why they called this Frangipani. If you want yellow tropical flowers, Sikkim Girls is a closer match. These two are not really similar, and I like Frangipani much better. Unlike some other Lush fragrances, this doesn't smell like a fizzy bathbomb at all. I love it and don't regret the blind buy one bit.

This one, and not the Snow cake perfume, smells like Snowflake lotion to me!!! 🤩 In the beginning, I can smell almond, with a smokey and woody touch... There's something that remember me Sikkim girls (maybe for the frangipani and some incensey, smokey notes?). But then, the scent becomes very similar, on my skin, to the Snowflake lotion scent! I can smell the same almondy, floral, musky and powdery scent. It's perfect, it's really a pity you can find it only at the boutique of perfumes in Florence!!!

Do not be fooled by the name. This is in no way a tropical floral scent but rather a spicy slightly sweet woody fragrance with a hint of white floral. I went to Lush to buy Lord of Misrule and the salesperson suggested it. I would have never picked it up as fruity florals are not my thing, but this is beautiful and sexy. Lasts moderate 4-5 hours. Great value.

True woody floral with some gourmand touches. Opening is an amaretto-like almond accord, with a hint of cherry (likely coming from the sweetness of the frangipani) resting on a bed of balmy woods, which on me is more sandalwood than guaiac. There is something vaguely green/herbal at the top (could be indoles or petitgrain), and overall the fragrance smells pretty natural and closer to EO than a melange of aromachemicals. After the amaretto flair of the opening, you're left with a sweet powdery smell with the mid-notes of the florals and base notes of the woods melding together, and thats how it wears for the remainder of the scent. It wears for around 6/7 hours but closely on skin. I purchased it 50% off and I think it was a good price, it feels like a comforting powdery-type scent with a very great bitter almond/cherry opening. After reading reviews I was anticipating a far more woody/dark floral scent, but it doesn't smell like that to my nose. It is a woody floral with natural smelling ingredients that lend it some body and powderyness, but no sharp oud or incense touches in the least that some reviews might suggest.

That’s not how I would have written the accords at all. To my nose, this is sweet, honeyed, musky, green, spicy, powdery, woody, and soapy. My bottle is from 2020. Time has definitely helped the honeyed/marzipan facets come to the forefront- but pretty equal with the guaiac wood. The guaiac wood is a little toasty/smoky. Like you were burning it to smudge your home with the windows open after a shower. If I feel the tuberose at all, it’s of the spicy green variety, vegetal and crisp. The almond/sandalwood combo might be what adds the powdery/soapy effect. This smells like expensive skincare. Like you just went from the facialist at a high end spa, and stopped by the wellness/health food store in the same plaza for a fresh juice. This is tranquil, slightly meditative- little cousin to Xerjoff’s Shunkoin. 🌱🍯🌫️☕️🧘🏽🌾

i don't know what frangipani smells like but that almond is so delicious. it adds a soft, nutty, chewy, creamy, almost buttery sweetness that is not like vanilla, and it blends with the smooth, almost honeyed, kinda musky floral note so well and smoothly. that sweetness from the almond becomes more felt as its been soaking on me few hours later under the conditions of sweating and body heat. and this (or at least the batch of decant that i have) is also pretty strong and tenacious. i dont get much of the tuberose so certainly, frangipani is the floral note i'm getting from this. it is so comforting in a delightful way. i guess this is the joy of wearing something gourmand-like.

Oh no, this is one of those Lush fragrances that just really puzzles me. It's an interesting scent, but it's not the kind of scent I can imagine wearing on my person. It's more of a home scent, in a candle or plug-in kind of format. This isn't a people scent by any means. It's very medicinal and woody. Very masculine but not even a masculine wearable scent, more like the combination of smells you may associate with an older gentleman and his self care products, including an old fashioned liniment for sore joints. Almond? I've been wearing this for two days now trying to understand it, and I detect no almond whatsoever. It bears little to no resemblance to Sikkim Girls besides that underlying Lush smoky, incensey thing. Sikkim Girls is very floral, Frangipani is 90% guiac and sandalwood with something remotely floral in the background. It's a pass from me.

I blind bought this online as I am a big fan of natural frangipani. There is none of it here. Ok, maybe there is frangipani essence hiding somewhere but natural frangipani is quite a delicate, fresh scent and here it vanishes under the much stronger and sweeter base notes. This is a nice, heavy, incense like wintery fragrance but, I should have guessed as many Lush creations have a name that does not reflect the contents very well, its not a frangipani scent. Lots of almond instead which is not a favourite note for me. EDIT: hm I think the name Frangipani here does not refer to the plumeria flower at all but a famous historical perfumer family called Frangipani..

Back in the 90s when I was a kid, a druid (or was it a warlock??) who owned a new-age shop gave me some plasticine he'd tried to pour molten metal into in an attempt to use the stuff as a jewellery mold (unsurprisingly, this endeavor was a failure). The solid version of Lush's Frangipani smells like that donated plasticine - incensey sweetness with a hint of slightly burnt oily plastic. Strangely not awful, but doesn't stick around long enough for you to hate it anyway.

It should have been called “Not Frangipani” or “Where’s the Frangipani”, they sound much more Lush-like to me. Leave the notes’ names to Ormonde Jayne, Jo Malone or Amouage (where it will be called Love Frangipani or Frangipani Love). I do sense the irresistible smell of frangipani here, but with a name like that it is certainly not it. Well, what is it then? It’s essentially an uninspired woody and plasticky, smoky floral diversion. **(***)

I've heard this described as a mashup between Sikkim Girls and Snowcake, two of my favourite LUSH scents. That description is accurate, with a noticeable resemblance to the white florals of Sikkim Girls. However, the combination here is very strong, heavy on the headshoppy bubblegum flowers. I do like this just sniffing out of the bottle, but wearing is way too overwhelming. I much prefer Sikkim Girls.

At first sniff I get an almond accord distantly related to Lush's Almond Blossom shower gel. Even stronger is a sweetish but dirty, greasy mélange that makes me think of the basenotes of every Lush product all swilled together. Quite unpleasant, though it recedes after half an hour and becomes at least tolerable. I don't get much else and certainly no frangipani. I feel certain that no frangipani were harmed in the making of this fragrance. Not worth the comparatively high price (by Lush standards) and not a safe blind buy.

Do yourself a favor and don’t blind buy this thinking it’s going to be a light, summery, creamy fragrance. It’s a huge does of oud and sandalwood then some creamy florals. It’s like as if you wandered into a medicine mans house made of fragrant wood in Bali. It’s full of jars of herbal medicinal woody yet still tropical smells. It’s also got that Lush incense thing going on. Interesting, but not my jam.

I mean this in the worst possible way, this literally feels like getting slapped by a fistful of almonds

I should have known better than blindbuy this but I did and what a mistake. I think it is the frangipani and tuberose together. I don ́t like Lush Sikkim Girls either and it is frangipani and tuberose there too so I should have known.

The opening is a bit of an in-your-face woody, slightly bitter almond scent - it's a little harsh. It's not unlike the initial blast of Kerbside Violet (though that's a green, grassy opening.) The first time I tested it, the opening almost put me off it. But like a lot of Lush fragrances, they just need time to develop. And I find after using it for a bit now, I actually look forward to and enjoy the opening burst. Fast forward 10 minutes or so and it begins to soften and turn into a clean, powdery, faintly sweet marzipan scent, with nice florals dancing around in there to help differentiate it from just a gourmand scent. Then the florals eventually die down and it becomes a soft, powdery, creamy almond scent. There's a sort of mouthwatering deliciousness to it, it's actually a bit addictive! Beautiful in cold weather. I'd say it's one of Lush's underrated gems. I'm surprised it doesn't get more love. Such a shame it's disconned!

Dense and opulent floral gourmand. Tropical white florals in full bloom and simmering butterscotch captured in an almond lotion. I missed most of the opening as I got a sample while I was masked, but here's my take on everything after the first 40 minutes. The flowers are dense, buttery, fleshy and almost suede-like. Cosmetics vibe more due to the 'lotiony'-almondy aspects than any iris or powder. My brain gets the sweetness and slots it into 'butterscotch'. Nothing screechy or synthy about it. Performance is killer. Sillage fills a room. 30 minutes after the initial spray, I could smell the tester strip through my coat, through my mask, while riding a bicycle. The scent lasted 24+ hours on a tester strip with a 3 foot sillage even at the 15 hour mark. Related to other Lush products, it has the heady floralcy of Sikkim Girls perfume and gourmand almondy goodness of Snowflake lotion.

visiting UK lush and i was overjoyed to see this came back in a black label bottle— i had this when it first released, and my memory didn't do it justice. a floral so beautiful, your mouth waters a bit. if it was made less expertly, it could get sharp, but there is a creamy almond note rounding it out. frangipani is summery, yet this feels somehow like christmas. absolutely stunning scent that i am thrilled to have back in my collection. edit: i remember this was sold specifically as a christmas scent. today is the first day of november that actually feels cold (near-freezing) and this is a whole new ballgame. it's like an undercover winter scent, you gotta try it in cold weather. i can't explain how it's christmas/winter, maybe it evokes common winter spices? no clue. my love for this scent just renewed its vows.

I stopped by my local Lush this week to scope out the year-end sales, and left with Frangipani. It's not what I expected - based on the name, I anticipated something closer to my beloved, frangipani-heavy Sikkim Girls. Here, frangipani and tuberose are nowhere near as pronounced, but this is a homey, comforting fragrance in its own right. Almond dominates, followed by smooth and dark woody notes. There's some benzoyl that adds to the vague marzipan-like but also cosmetic, powdery feel. The florals are certainly prominent, but they aren't the stars. They add a feminine, soft sweetness to the scent. Frangipani is warm and cozy, and it makes sense that it came out during the holidays - not because it's christmassy, but because it has that cozy feel associated with the season. At 50% off, it's worth picking up.

I bought a small bottle of blindly, and I hate it. I’m Central American and the scent of frangipani flowers is so nostalgic, so I thought I was buying THAT in a bottle. Wrong. I was shocked to come on here and see it described as a floral scent bc don’t smell any flowers at all. I smell powder, sweet and bitter almond—it smells like the powder in an old timey barber shop, or the sweet oils old timey men put in their hair. There is absolutely nothing fresh and tropical about this as the name suggests. I have a bottle for sale if anyone wants it.

Blind bought this because it sounded interesting. At first spritz, you are blasted with the sandalwood/oud (I thought it was pine at first!) Then comes a spicy frangipani/sandalwood with a hint of the almond. Something about it smells resin-y or inscence-y, maybe it's the oud? I was initially disappointed going by the first spritz but I actually love the drydown. It is the perfect cozy but sexy fall/winter scent. So far it seems to last about 6 hours on skin, I still smelled it well into the next day on clothes.

Yuck just yuck🤮 Ignore these positive reviews this thing smell gross. Directly sold my bottle. Stupid creation. I gaged as I was smelling it even took shower but this thing was not going anywhere. I don't understand why they make a nicer scent weak and a disgusting smell so strong

Now that this is gone, I am so happy to own it! I let my bottle "sit" for a year and it has mellowed out (not a sharp) . I really love this - even if it feels more "woody / nutty" than floral .

First impressions: the general aroma of a Lush retail outlet. Very sharp and herbal.
