Lust

New Review 3/3/2026 I think my nose is broken, or maybe my mind. I smelled this at Lush only a couple of months ago, and I found it disgusting and offensive, and even wrote a hateful review of it. But I was brave and curious enough to go to Lush again, and actually spray it this time, and I love it. I understand the hype now... I think that this is the first 'divisive' or 'challenging' fragrance that I read extensive reviews upon before buying, and it altered my perception of it in some unfortunate way. I love jasmine in perfumery, I love jasmine tea as a drink, but I HATE the smell of sweat and body odor, and those seem to be the main comparisons given when people negatively review this scent. So this had a 50-50 chance of being a new favorite for me, or being something I find absolutely foul. And the first time I smelled it, unfortunately, it was the latter. In reality, it is a sugary jasmine and ylang-ylang combo with what may be the best longevity of any fragrance I've ever used. It gets sweeter the longer you wear it. I really love it. I feel pretty when I wear it, I feel like a star. I don't understand why this smelled so bad to me at first. But, honestly, I don't understand the advertising and branding of it either. It's not a delicate or childish fragrance by any means, but 'primal,' 'carnal,' and 'dirty' do not describe it at all to me... Even 'Lust' as a name feels unfitting. It's floral, mature, slightly 'fruity' or 'tropical.' I feel more inclined to call it 'sugary' than sweet. It's almost like jasmine tea with sugar cubes in it, but it does not actually smell like a food or drink, and there isn't a hint of tea leaf in it. It's whatever I smell and taste in a sugar cube besides the sweetness, oddly. It also has a little 'rotting flowers' element to it that makes it lean more towards smelling like a decaying old bouquet to me, and I love it that about it, too. I really don't understand why people on the internet want to fuck this perfume so bad... I think seeing people say so many strange things about this made me go into it expecting that I would dislike it... And I think that, after smelling it, seeing it as overrated, and seeing that it elicits bizarre, over-exaggerated responses, I hated it more than I would have otherwise... Unfortunate, but true. I don't want it to happen again, and hopefully it doesn't, but such is life... Overall, I appreciate the journey this scent took me on, and I do like that it made me reexamine my tastes in some way. I think it smells amazing, and hopefully, when I buy it, I will get a batch that smells like sweet flowers instead of bodily fluids.

What can I say about this perfume. It is the love of my life when it comes to beauty products. I have three full bottles and a small one. Safe safe safe backups. I never want to run out especially as I hear they’ve toned it down on its original character to make it more palatable to the gourmand mass market. What a shame. Lush if you are reading this, don’t butcher a classic. The gourmand girlies or the floral folks will always find the next pretty floral or the next sweet perfume. But those who love Lust for what it has been - a potent beast that stains clothes, divides people and refuses to quit - will never abandon this scent. It is for the loyal lovers of the perfume so I hope these reformulation rumours are rumours and if not then lush you are making a huge mistake. The loyal followers will leave. Now coming to this perfume. Imagine a warm spring night in India. The air is ripe with jasmine flowers draped all over a large luxurious garden, trails and plants and everything everywhere. Something out of a fairy tale. Morning come, the sky is blue but wet - in a golden cauldron cold water is filled. Ripe, on the verge of dropping from the tree kind of ripe jasmine flowers are collected by the handful and in the cold water they float. The heady juice of the white flower is released from its body by the water, wafting into the air. The water itself, is a little yang ylang and sandalwood sweetness in it. Maybe there is a drop of that essence someone’s dropped inside. The air is ripe with possibility, tranquility and lust all at once. This is in my top 3 fragrances of all time and if I had to empty out my fragrance collection, which is vast, this is the only thing I would keep. A masterpiece. Just gorgeous. Those yellow florals and that sweetness from the other notes is done so perfectly, that they seem to be doing nothing but elevating the jasmine. What a symphony. 10/10

My bottle of Lush LUST came in today! So happy. And, after several sprays, I'm really surprised at some of the reviews here which describe this scent as "dirty", "slutty", "carnal", or "animalic" or even "sexy". This isn't (intrinsically) a sexpot fragrance at all, if you are familiar with how natural floral EO's smell. No, all this scent is, is just a very natural-smelling floral... that's it! No skank, no gamy-ness, no civet, no naughty knickers, no cumin, nada... Just a brilliant confluence of late-spring floralcy, with a tart, frilly jasmine as its star. (I was expecting this scent to be laden with naughty nuances, like, say, Akro NIGHT, with its brazen "inner thigh" notes.) More than ylang-ylang or rose, I'm getting yellow flowers, like mimosa or limette/linden as support to the jasmine. The opening spritz contains a brief moment of bergamot, orange flower and possibly petitgrain... but they are there just as refreshing topnote moments... they disappear almost immediately. I'm getting a faint phantom nuance of something aromatic... maybe a clean menthol? which acts as a stimulating foil to the floral bouquet. All extremely natural-smelling; in fact, LUST reminds me of, say, a Hiram Greene floral, woven entirely out of natural EO's. Sillage is, to me, discreet, not boomy at all. The long drydown period of LUST is gorgeous, too: never turning sour or cloying; it's only in farthest drydown that one perceives what might be a hint of vanilla, in her floral/orchid-y guise. In composition, LUST makes me think: If Mugler ALIEN were blended with all-nats, it would smell like this. LUST is a gorgeous scent, surely leaning feminine, of course, and I would not hesitate to give a flacon of LUST to my 11-year-old niece... that's how vernal and innocent this perfume reads to me. But I will wear it too... as a gentle reminder of springtime. Highly recommended.

This was the first fragrance I ever bought with my own money and wore regularly. My mom loved it so much that I bought another one for her birthday, and now our house always smells gorgeous. I have only tried the solid version, but it is worthwhile purchases. I believe I purchase it for around $12, and even though it comes in a small tin, it is extremely potent and lasts forever. I consider this the crème de la crème of pure, concentrated, jasmine. It is not a clean, palatable take on white florals. This is the real deal, love-me-or-hate-me jasmine: sweet, sexy, skanky, indolic, and quite dirty. If you have only smelled cleaner, less potent versions of jasmine like Chanel's Gabrielle, Beauty by Calvin Klein, or Demeter's Jasmine, you may be surprised or even offended by this beauty. It's rather ironic how flowers are considered the scent of freshness, of petal-white pureness, or cleanliness, and yet a pure floral scent like this screams sex and dirtiness (the good, Christina Aguilera type of dirrty). In reality, flowers are diverse and many, especially white florals, can be cloying and indolic. But I find it fascinating that flowers can be so multifaceted. Even a supposedly single-note scent can be composed of so many different notes and molecules. Within this jasmine, there's an almost earthy tea-like note. Some people have complained about something excessively sweet in this fragrance, which is the banana candy scented molecule benzyl acetate, found in white florals like jasmine. Growing up around jasmine flowers, I can attest that this scent is 100% accurate, a hyperrealistic, skanky, jasmine with the scent amped up to a psychedelic level. If you love real jasmine, you'll love this scent. If you hate real jasmine, you'll hate this scent. But for fans, this stuff is sex in a bottle.

Over the last month I have found two perfumes that cost me pennies but that are so beautiful they make me choke up with joy! Tea Rose by Perfumers Workshop - the greatest rose soliflore ever made and Lush Lust which is the Jasmine I've been yearning for for years. Tea Rose is pure and innocent but Lust has found her g-spot and then some! For me she is pretty linear, a punch in the face of deep, indolic jasmine and this is the first fragrance that lasted 36 hours on my skin even though a shower! Where Tea Rose leaves little love letters in your jacket pocket swearing undying love forever, Lust rakes your back with her nails and your buttocks as she pulls you inside of her. She doesn't promise eternal love, shes yours until you can no longer keep up and she will leave you grieving forever and wishing you could have died between her thighs, your flesh bleeding out from her talons. Nobody will ever know about Tea Rose as you go about your business but her scent will remind you of her innocence when you catch the breeze. But everyone will give you the side eye and whisper after your tryst with Lust, and you won't be able to sit comfortably or lie flat in bed until your scars heal. Lust layers well with leathery fragrances, like a good quality Papua NG Oud and will take the kink to a whole new level. Outstanding stuff, cost me £30 off ebay for a 100ml bottle but if you do go there she will mark you so I suggest apply on skin and wait for the full dry down before getting dressed, or wear dark clothing.
