Goddess

This is a review of the EDP liquid. I’ve had the solid, soap and hair crème and this is my favourite scent family from Lush. The EDP is NOT A blind-buy safe perfume, as the oud-oil can really smell “barnyard-like” as mentioned in other reviews. Personally, I think it adds an animalic dimension to the perfume, evoking thoughts of some long-forgotten fertility goddess. This does dissipate in the dry down however, leaving just a gorgeous juicy Jasmine incense that’s truly stunning. Strong sillage and does better for being warmed up on the skin. The Jasmine and Oudh are really front-and-centre in this perfume, with suede & honeyed dried apricots from the Osmanthus. The Sandalwood brings warmth, but the Rose isn’t distinctive to me, maybe it just lends sweetness, more dried over a fresh floral. Funnily enough, there is still a definite “Diet Coke” smell that was present in the solid perfume. It’s not sparkly to me, more flat and slightly warm cola. When I smell this perfume, it transports me to an ancient temple. A priestess sways in rhythmic devotion over an offering table, her movements a silent hymn to the Goddess. Wisps of incense rise in delicate tendrils, mingling with the heady sweetness of scattered flower petals and sweet offerings. As she dances, the scent of crushed hay releases an earthy warmth, grounding the ritual in the earth. I HIGHLY recommend this perfume if you’re at all witchy or into churchy incense or jasmine scents.

I think this smells exactly like Givenchy’s Ange Ou Demon Le Secret. Only a much more natural, lush-ier version. All I smell is super fruity rosey jasmine, and I love it! I was crushed when they discontinued amelie Mae, then I realized i had initially been torn between amelie Mae and goddess because I loved the similar fruitiness. Goddess was a little darker and my boyfriend at the time liked more simple scents so I went with amelie Mae. But now I’m obsessed with Goddess and is the only lush fragrance I would truly stock up on if discontinued. I always thought it was silly to stock up on a perfume you’ll never be able to get once it’s out. But this one has totally changed my mind. Oh and when you first spray it, it will totally smell like eucalyptus or a sort of astringent, but it disappears super quickly. Wait literally 3 minutes max and it’s completely transformed into a fruity rosey jasmine scent. Also fyi there’s been a surge of scented candle returns since the pandemic because everyone thinks they smell bad all because these people have covid and don’t know it. Mild covid cases especially effect your sense of smell. Follow science! And please take bad reviews of this lovely perfume during the pandemic with a grain of salt until you try it yourself. After you’ve quarantined for 14 days and taken three covid tests.

I’m a huge fan of lush fragrances. They tend to be fun and quirky and wild. The first time I smelled Goddess in the shop I was in line. Since the fragrance was quite expensive I just bought the soap (which was absolutely amazing). I kept coming back and trying it on and always loving it, but after a while I realised that I much prefer the perfume oil over the edp. The perfume oil is much more gentle and subtle than the edp, without losing intensity like the solid perfume. If you enjoy the scent, but like me find the edp spray too intense and the solid too subtle, try to get your hands on the oil, because imo it’s perfect. It’s still pretty intense so I only use two drops that suffice for behind my ears/ neck, wrists and still leaves some excess that I use to ruffle my hair with as a hair perfume. It’s so delicious as a sweet sparkly Jasmin drink. It does have a bit of a medicinal smell on first application, but not as strongly as the edp spray and it settles quite quickly. Fresh enough to wear in spring and summer, but warm enough for winter. Sadly the perfume oil has been discontinued, so it’s not super easy to get anymore.

I was quite intrigued about this fragrance because like most Lush perfumes it could be polarizing. I have tested a lot of Lush perfumes like Lust but the dollop of ylang-ylang on my skin just screeches and turns sour.... until I found my new match which is Goddess. I used to own Sikkim girls which is a dry floral incense perfume which is sadly discontinued now. I could understand why most reviewers here may detest this scent especially if you are unfamiliar with oud but I love oud because it goes well on my skin wherein it turns slightly sweet. I love the bright clean opening of Goddess which is distinctly Lush signature. After an hour the oud emerges and orange, not the fruit but the skin which is bitter with subtle floral notes. This fragrance lasts about 4-5 hours on my skin and very much a woody aromatic which is something I love and great for layering for some of my oriental and floral fragrances. I think Goddess needs to be tested on skin because you may never know you might found a new Lush love like me.

(This review is for the liquid version, which I find smells different from the solid. I think the people who find the liquid barnlike would enjoy the solid.) I adore Goddess, it's the perfect mixture of medicinal/hippie with dark/smoky/woody and yet sweet. As a woman, I've lusted over men's colognes like M7, Spicebomb Fresh, Egoiste, etc for the longest time. They are wonderfully medicinal, herbal, hippie or dark and smoky with something alluringly sweet in the background. Now I'm not saying Goddess smells anything like any of those colognes. But it can be described in the exact same way. You get something medicinal, and you also get this intoxicating smokey oudh that is elevated by the rose and jasmine. Goddess is the female version of all those fragrances I've loved from afar but could never bring myself to wear because I perceived them as being too masculine. Yes, it isn't refined and that is why the name fits it perfectly. This perfume, to me, is about making a statement.

Goddess is Lush's first big foray into the world of Oudh and I love it. It's heady and floral but balanced with a natural sweetness and of course, a heavy dose of Oudh. I think a lot of people are used to synthetic Oudh in their designer perfumes, or the phenomenon of houses naming their perfumes using the word Oudh but not having any actual Oudh notes or accords. That's why they are wary of what real, natural Oudh smells like. Lush use real Oudh oil in Goddess and you can tell because it has a rich, slightly animalic base to it, that some people smell as "barnyard" - it really is just how your nose reacts. From Goddess I get elegance, intensity and a little bit of dirt. It's also really interesting how sometimes it just smells like cola.

A friend gifted me the solid perfume of this in 2020, it was unlike anything I'd smelled before and I was unsure if I liked it or not. I also wasn't sure if I could pull it off, but I kept coming back to it, intrigued by its medicinal quality that sits somewhere between cola and tiger balm. Ended up loving it so much that I purchased the liquid version as well. The liquid is sharper and spicier, and has more of that "hay" smell upon spraying. The solid has a little more of that powdery, vintage makeup scent to me. In the cold I find them cosy, comforting, reminiscent of an apothecary, and in warmer weather, a little dirtier and sexier. Disappointed to find out it's so hard to find outside the UK now.

Went into the Lush shop with the intention of buying a new Breath of God solid, maybe splurge and get the liquid perfume. Decided to test smell all of the liquid perfumes since I was already in the store and was told that there was a brand new one available called Goddess! Oddly enough, out of everything I smelled I settled on the perfume oil of Goddess! It smells so gorgeous. I get hints of black currant or something fruity and dark as well as gorgeous Jasmine and Sandalwood. Not really sure what Oudh smells like, so I may be mistaking it for the Sandalwood.. Either way, this fragrance is one of my absolute favorites and has inspired me to purchase many more of their scents since. A+++

Steer clear of this scent if you don’t like oud or jasmine because they pretty much take over everything here, especially if you get the liquid version 😁 I got the solid version this time, which tones them both down somewhat and adds a pleasantly mild smokey accord. This is a scent that will definitely get you noticed, so be prepared for compliments when you wear it. Even though it’s intended for women, I can see this working on a man. I love this for cooler weather, but I could easily imagine this working for warmer weather if the wearer either gets the solid perfume or only sprays on a little of the liquid perfume.

At first I really disliked this perfume, but after some time, I walked out of the store and it started to grow on me in the hours following. I've found the scent familiar, yet new - and then it hit me, This smells a lot like Shalimar. After a few wears, I've started to enjoy this more than Shalimar. Sometimes Shalimar is too complex and stinky (especially in hot weather). The Oud in Goddess makes it as stinky as Shalimar in addition to it's shared notes of Citrus, jasmine, rose, and sandalwood. Very sexy in an effortless way. Not a safe blind buy for non-oud lovers. Test it in the store first!

really was not a fan of this in the bottle & on test strips but on skin it transforms and i literally cannot stop sniffing my own wrist...something about the way the woody notes mix with the florals is almost reminiscent of cinnamon to me, a little warm and sweet but not gourmand. makes me feel like i’m standing in a witch’s cabin smelling dried spices and catching the scent of her rose garden wafting through the window on the breeze...gorgeous!

This beauty is strong! I tested it in store and found it a little too much (a bit medicinal) at the time but now I regret not buying it. Days later I reached for the scarf I was wearing at the time I tested it and the most amazing scent had clung to it. Gorgeous woody, powdery jasmine. Unfortunately it's only available in 100ml bottles now, so I will need to test again before committing to a full bottle.

I'm a seasonal Lush employee. I first fell in love with this scent from the bath bomb... it's a beautiful floral with a smoky finish... so unique!! I prefer a more masculine fragrance unless it's gourmand but this scent leaves me smelling my wrists all day! It is truly one of the most unique fragrances I've ever smelled. Definitely polarizing but for me a winner!

It is a very stunning beauty but the oud in the beginning is so acrid its disturbing. If you don't have the patience for the oud just give it some time and it mellows out to a stunning beauty that is beyond seasons . This could be a offspring or cousin to Roja Dove Aouds Sweetie , Candy or Fruity aoud I have fallen in love and have only owned for a few hrs ....

Gorgeous. One of my favourites from Lush. But it just doesn’t seem to stick around for me. Skin, hair and clothes seem to just eat it. I don’t think I’m going nose blind because I can still smell it when I put my wrist right to my face but it doesn’t seem to project at all for me. Grr.

peppery oud and creamy osmanthus , spicy in the opening, then it settles and mellows , the sandalwood rose and powdery notes flourish in the dry down, quite different and dreamy scent, ideal for oud beginners like me .

I’ve had this perfume for about over a month now, so I’ve given myself quite a bit of time to get the feel of it. I’m not a perfume connoisseur or anything, but here are my thoughts... (1) FIRST IMPRESSIONS: deep, floral oud. Combination of wood, florals, and oud are cozy, but so unique that you must smell it more and more. (2) DESCRIPTION: Picture this... you’re a small town farmer in the American midwest. It’s a late summer evening, the sun low in the sky, and an after a long day it’s time to unwind. It’s cooling off a bit after a beautifully warm sunny day, there’s a slight breeze, and the temperature is perfect — not too hot or cold. You’re sitting outside of the barn on a stack of hay, watching the horses graze in the nearby pasture. There’s a small fire going, and you’re close enough to get occasional whiffs but not close enough to feel the heat. The breeze carries the scent of adjacent lavender fields. The jasmine covering the ranch house and a few rose bushes are blooming some yards away. You take a sip of the room temperature, slightly flat Diet Coke you left open on the counter about an hour or so ago, and wipe the condensation from the can on your jeans, dirty from wearing them all day. You feel content after a successful day and grateful for your simple beautiful life on the farm. You take in all the elements around you and are at peace. (3) FINAL THOUGHTS: Some people will find this scent comforting and nostalgic. Growing up I helped care for my neighbors’ horses and ponies. This brings back memories of that, which I find comforting. The scent of “barn” / “hay” / “horse” are quite strong, especially after the first spritz settles down. The florals sit just under that. After a few hours, that barnyard scent mellows out a tad and blends more with your skin, but is still present. The Diet Coke vibe didn’t come out for me until I wore it a few times, but once I picked up on that I couldn’t unsmell it. The Diet Coke thing put me off a bit. I can definitely see many people hating this scent. It’s easily interpreted as barnyard + floral + flat Diet Coke. This is specifically for someone who feels the comforted by these elements. I personally appreciate its uniqueness and the picture it paints. It’s thoughtful, creative, and can evoke nostalgia. However, I don’t find myself reaching for it and wanting to wear it. I mostly sniff the atomizer to get a good whiff then choose to wear something else. It was nice layered with Lush’s American Cream. Unfortunately, this EDP is only available in the largest size for like $225. I would prefer to have a much smaller bottle. Very cool scent but I’m thinking of returning it, as I’m not sure I’ll really get use out of it. I can’t remember is there’s a solid scent stick of this one but if there is I might consider getting that. Less of a commitment and more aligned with how often I intend to use it.

I do like this, but it's a bit unresolved to my nose, like a group of individually beautiful notes that don't quite harmonize when combined. I bought the perfume on the strength of the oil, and interestingly, the cheapish oil is a more beautiful iteration when compared to the pricy liquid perfume. Jasmine dominates both, and there's a sharp tang that evokes citrus, but the composition is thin and two dimensional in its perfume concentration. The projection of the oud and sandalwood in the oil seems more substantial, and in that form it just feels more rounded and structured. In parfum form, the woody notes feel oddly muddled. My first impressions of Lush fragrances aren't always an accurate predictor of how I'll feel about a scent in the long run, and I typically appreciate the rawness of their compositions, so this may grow on me. For now, the quality of the ingredients here exceeds the artistry of the fragrance in my estimation. EDIT: I've come to appreciate this though my initial criticisms stand, but of course 2/3rds of my bottle leaked during a recent move. As did a few other Lush perfumes and ONLY Lush perfumes. I appreciate their reasonable price-point, but their bottles are really dreadful. Keep them perfectly upright at all times, I guess.

I have the oil version and it smells of oud and patchouli. It’s a pleasant fragrance that reminds me of mystic shops and hippies. It will go in a scent diffuser - for an oil it has very low silage and longevity.

A curious combination of oud and osmanthus. I find the final result a bit incongruent, like the two parts don’t really fit together. But it smells nice and full points for originality.

Very woody and not sweet - not for me, but I get the appeal.

I don't get oud from this and I feel bad for anyone experiencing this thinking it's oud. I think the comments on 'barnyard' and hay smell are accurate. For me, it's not so bad, I like these kinds of dirty perfumes, but it doesn't suit the name 'Goddess' or the connotations I think most of us would have with that. It's okay for what it is, but I think it tries too hard and just misses the mark. 5/10

This is an acquired taste. It is loud, animalic, and leathery. I could smell flowers lingering behind its loudness, but no oud. I cannot detect oud at all. This is like a loud younger sister of Shalimar EDP. If you like Shalimar but dislike the performance of the reformulated version, get this one instead. It will sure grab attention.

Removed my previous review and updating after owning this fragrance for nearly a year and wearing it in different seasons. I want to like this, but I just don't. First spritz smells like a citrus-y sawdust to me; it HAS to be the oud because I usually love sandalwood in perfume. I can only smell jasmine if I press my nose into my skin where I sprayed and that only lasts an hour or so. No osmanthus either. The sharpness of the sawdust smell eventually dissipates, but I still get almost all woodiness the entire time with what smells like citrus - I can't figure out what that actually is. Towards the end of the drydown, I get the light powdery note. I will say the longevity is great (like 8 hours) which is saying a lot because my skin tends to eat up fragrance.

Oh my word how I hate to do this; This perfume is in my honest opinion a disaster. It starts of very strong,nose wrinklingly strong. The immeadiate thoght is of a barn, ammonia and hay. I feel terrible for writing this because I love Lush, and am in general pleased with their scentline. This scent is just unpleasent, the first hit is unpleasent, and the drydown is unpleasent. Yes there are some powdery notes that pop up and some lily and rose, but that initial barnlike note doesn't dissapear, and the scent feels dirty. This scent is not at all what I was expecting. The name is wrong, the juice is wrong, unless she is the godess of horses...

Possibly just how it is on my skin... *Disclaimer, I LOVE Lush but this one just didn't work on me. The oud is really strong on my skin to the point it smells a bit (sorry, Lush) public toilet-y for a good 3 hrs. After that it's a lovely incense-y smell but at the point the perfume is quite faint. Sadly, no Jasmine or floral for me. Maybe I've just not got the nose to appreciate it! Or maybe it's just not to my personal taste... I do like Furze, Dirty, Rose Jam, Road From Damascus, and Smell of the Weather Turning. Very excited to smell more of their perfumes - not put off in the slightest :)

I like everything listed on the ingredient list, but it seems that the result was not as convincing as what it seems to be: it’s overall very thin and watery, it immediately reminds me of some Chinese medicinal wine for easing muscle pain, a scent that can be easily detected from old timers. Nothing goddess or sexy :( I love Lush perfumes... hate to say this. Sorry Lush!

I always loved the goddess soap from Lush and saw a great deal on a bottle so I bought it. Unfortunately it smells horrid. The oud is too much and the powdery, floral notes are not there. Headache inducing. I definitely wouldn’t recommend blindbuying based off of liking the Goddess soap. They’re a mile apart

Review for the liquid perfume version: Oh this was yuck! It smells straight up like horse pee. Maybe it's the oud going full-on barnyard on me? In any case, I cannot stand it. Thankfully, it washed off well.

I bought this without reading reviews or trying it, even though I bought it in a Lush store. Fragrance is hugely subjective, but I like it. In the same week i bought some Bortnikoff and Areej Le Dore, I'm getting almost as much enjoyment from this as I did with those ultra niche houses. Clearly at this price point, it's nowhere near as refined and blended, but I'm enjoying it. I get an oud, rose and jasmine opening, but there's something else embedded, maybe it's the Limonene at the base and carries the perfume. I've tried quite a few real ouds from various regions, clearly at this price point, it's not one of the best ouds, but it's not as bad as some comments have suggested. The oud doesn't last long and has the performance of a top note, which is fine. I wouldn't recommend this as a first oud experience or a blind buy. This isn't a work safe perfume and in my opinion, marketing it as a woman's perfume is a mistake.

I discover the oil version in Canada ( Montréal); and I fell in love with it. The oil version smells allot of osmanthus with Jasmine and then the rose starts to bloom , and finally everything is wrapped with oud and woody notes. Osmanthus has a very particular floral/medicinal smell with some woody and tea undertones, in the oil version of this perfume , I perceived allot of osmanthus essential oil. I used it during my trip in Canada , and when I wear it , it transports me to that joyful moments. I only apply one drop , because is very intense. During this year I found that If I combine it with cedar wood essential oil , it provides a very beautiful balsamic and green effect, perfect for Christmas and winter seasons. Also I combined it with some concentrated Middle Eastern essences that I have in my personal collection, and I prefer to wear that combo by using Shea butter and olive oil.

The first time I tried this perfume in the Lush Store, I literally recoiled from my wrist and I told the shop assistant it was too much. Even though theoretically it matched what I was looking for. Two months later and hello. I am now the proud owner of a bottle of this. I love strong perfume and this is strong. its also quite a complex scent. I get some of the previous comments but I'm surprised there are not more reviews. Its a beautiful and dark earthy aromatic gem. It reminds in its nature, of Fendi Classic. Its a little bit dangerous. It doesn't seem unresolved to me. But perhaps a bit raw, compared to a lot of perfume. Lush Perfumes generally have more natural ingredients. I love it and I think I'm going to sell my collection. All in.

Do NOT blind buy the solid through the mail anytime soon. Got mine in the mail and holy Vicks Vapo Rub, does it REEK of EUCALYPTUS!?!? Lol. I am convinced that someone mixed up the oils. Yikes! Nothing like smelling you are having chest issues in the MIDDLE OF COVID!!! Lol. I had my boyfriend smell it just to make sure it wasn’t me, and he said it smelled like a Vicks inhaler. On the “bright side” my sinuses are SO CLEAR they are BURNING!!! Jasmine? Sandalwood? Oud? Lol. Is it just me, or does Lush dump their faulty products on the online shoppers? Maybe that’s why they will accept returns, IF you are willing to pay the 20$ shipping to “get your money back”.

This is truly complex fragrance. The vibes for me are walking into parfumery shop on your holiday in arabic countries where they mix all the perfumes oil in front of you. It's very rich, it's super strong and on me it's beast mode perfume. Perfumes don't last on me very well but this smells whole day no problem. It's giving sexy, confident femme fatale. For me this is truly special occasion scent. I can't imagine using it on the everyday basis on me since it's so strong and complex. As much as I apreciate it, I use it rarely since it's not my vibe.

I tried this in the oil version, and thought it smelled like incense (I understand what reviewers are saying about oud, but I didn’t get a strong oud note from it). It smelled very familiar to me, though, and I couldn’t figure out what it reminded me of. Then it hit me, that it was Lancôme Magie Noire. So I walked over to the the Macy’s Lancôme counter and tested that too, and compared them side by side, and sure enough, there’s a similarity. Nice if you like that kind of incense-y perfume scent.

I've never smelled this, but I am glad to read that someone else senses oud as barnlike and dirty. I keep hearing so many people gushing about oud (and it's in nearly every scent these days as a note du jour) and I was curious to smell it so I did and I was NOT ready, LOL! Smelled like dirty horse stalls, sweltering petting zoo and nasty panties all rolled into one. Unreal scent experience, I will give it that, but I will surely steer clear of oud from this point forward.

The comparison with Shalimar is an apt one. Goddess the black label is Shalimars less powdery younger sister who loves to sip cocktails on a Mediterranean beach in late spring wearing slanted hats and summer dresses. I love Shalimar too but I think this will be perfect for spring and summer for the hotter days ahead. I have to say I got none of the oud while smelling this, which is unfortunate because I do really like Oud.

I had the white label years ago and recently tried the black version. The scent has changed! It smells way different than before. It‘s softer, not as rough and I don‘t get that intensive oudh scent. I had to sell the white label because it was too much for me. Maybe I‘ll get the new one because I like it better. But if you knew the old scent, you better check the reformulation out

I've got the solid version. It smells like a sauna, one of those steamy turkish style ones? Very cool & refreshing too, which I wouldn't have expected. Sort of smoky, steamy and frosty feeling at the same time. The earlier comparison to cola I find fitting as well!

This is a very sultry and mature fragrance. I just spritzed in store, it was not for me though but I see this lasting long because I feel that it is so concentrated. It's unlike the scents out in stores which are watered-down compared to lush scents.

Thick oud and strong makeup powder. A little bit of jasmine, a little bit of Lush signature bubblegum sweetness, but overall everything is drenched in a lot of thick oud and makeup powder.

If you want to smell like the inside of an Aveda store, wear this.
