A Flower Grows in Concrete Kerbside Violet reminds me that beauty doesn't need a pristine garden. Sometimes it blooms between cracked pavement slabs and stubborn weeds. The first time I wore it, I was struck by how vividly it captured that feeling. It opens with a gloriously green burst, as though I've crouched down on a damp spring morning and plucked a violet straight from the earth, roots and all. The opening completely surprised me. It's lush, dewy, and just the tiniest bit feral. I smell green shoots elbowing their way through gravel, moss creeping along forgotten alleyways, and wild violets flourishing where they're least expected. Then, almost imperceptibly, that damp greenness begins to soften into a more classic violet. It's nostalgic without becoming powdery, delicate without ever feeling overly sweet, and it never quite lets go of that beautiful memory of rain-soaked soil. Ylang ylang appears in the official notes, but if it's there, I honestly can't find it. To my nose, it's backstage holding the lights rather than stepping into the spotlight. What I experience instead is a beautiful duet between violet and earth—tenacious, humble, and refreshingly unconcerned with floral vanity. Whenever I wear Kerbside Violet, I feel as though I've stumbled across a hidden pocket of nature in the middle of a concrete city. There's something quietly melancholic about it in the best possible way. It reminds me of that first spring day when you realize winter has finally loosened its grip, and a tiny purple flower has somehow found the strength to bloom beside the curb. Highly recommended for urban romantics and lovers of earthy green flowers.

A sharp green opening, with violet and Iris..? It's not listed but I swear I smell Iris, at least on me, that scent of lipstick and face powder, at some theatre, backstage, after the show...flowers scattered and crushed on the floor, after the encore.. But then it dries and settles into a cool but rich and heady floral, dripping with morning dew on grassy fields. Gentle and innocent, like a sunrise, where all the sins of last night disappear.. When it's safe, spray it on your clothes..that opening of green, violet and Iris stays out there and then the soft and slightly sweet drydown on warm skin, it mingles and is magical. Not your department store perfume...and worth every penny. I think any man can wear this. Nothing overly femme about this scent, even if it's listed as female, to me, it's very unisex.

I've been dying to try this for years because I'm obsessed with violet but it costs £100 for a bottle on the UK website. It's a green, leafy, dewy violet. There is an initial gasoline smell to it which can be off-putting, but that sort of smell doesn't bother me. Feels very edgy and moody, it's the sort of perfume where you sit in on a rainy day and watch a horror movie. ( Take my review with a pinch of salt because I ordered a sample from a website that sells cheap Lush dupes on Etsy. I intend on buying a full bottle to see the difference. ) Update: I found a bottle on eBay at a reasonable price and I took my chance. The gasoline, asphalt smell is stronger. It dries down to a earthy, natural smelling violet. It's not very strong but I do get compliments which is rare.

Kerbside Violet lovers! This perfume is still available in Hong Kong Lush online shop/ app, I believe it is not discounted globally! I just checked, only available in 100ml bottle. I have been sitting on a fence with Kerbside Violet for a very long time, I love the very verdant, deep violet leaf peaking through the thick tart-like industrial-ness of myrrh opening, giving me a image of walking into a forest in dawn when the air is still cool and damp, that what I experience in the first 30 minutes. Since I already own 100 ml bottles of Fantabulosia and Confetti, which also contain violet leaf, it might be redundant to own a 100ml size bottle of Kerbside Violet. However, among these 3, Kerbside Violet is the most enjoyable one.

This is a review of the solid version: There is a lot of violet leaf in Kerbside Violet, so instead of demure and sweet violet flowers, you get fresh, wet, borderline metallic and sharp violets (roots and stems and all) rising from dark earth. The mid and base notes have more violet flower than the top notes, and as a result they are woodier and more powdery, but just as gorgeous. Kerbside Violet is not very complex, but as a fragrance it is pure punk rock: Vigorous, unexpected, and fun; a breath of fresh air in a genre that is starting to suffocate under its own weight. IMO Kerbside Violet is a unisex frag and would work well for most genders. 4/5 stars

Smells like the La Brea Tar Pits, and car exhaust...then it morphs into a beautiful, haunting violet. Kerbside Violet is a polluted version of Meteorites...like Meteorites spilled on steaming asphalt. It's so unusual and unexpected, I can't help but be drawn to it. The perfume spray starts with the bitumen note, full-blown, but it becomes a sweet wood violet (Viola odorata) that is simply haunting in its aromatic accuracy. It's shocking to have a scent start out so deeply disturbing, and then become comforting and achingly pretty. This is a true work-of-art that's hugely underrated. I love it.

Gorilla Kerbside Violet (2014) - woody violets - #simonconstantine combines the wet vegetal, cool, with soft woody nuances of #violetleaf Absolute together with #rosewood Oil - fresh, slightly camphorated, with faint rosy nuances. Making it interesting, he complimented the accord with a tiny amount of Ylang ylang oil and Jasmine absolute making the star - the violets. Reminds me of the sadly discontinued #apreslondee without the anise-like accord. Beautiful and contemplative.

I rediscovered my old solid perfume of this fragrance from maybe 3 or 4 years ago. Unsure how time has effected it being a solid perfume and that it was not exposed to high heat or light, but whatever status it's at I LOVE the smell! It smells the same I remember it smelling. Stunning, velvety violet. Beautiful and easy to layer with. I do hope they still sell this on discount sites, I will be treating this remnant like gold. It layers stunningly with Alien, major love!

Smells like bending down to pick violets on a wet spring day... The smell of damp green-ness and violets and earth. It does not smell like concrete or any of the strange "urban" notes some reviewers referenced. It smells just like violets in a green garden on a rainy day.

When I was a kid I used to get on my hands and knees and smell the violets in my Nana's garden. I always preferred this to the smell after they were picked, it was never as fresh or as strong. This perfume smells just like that, green, floral, with a hint of clean earth. While it is a subtle smell it is incredibly lasting, just as strong 24 hours later. When I wear this I smell it all day and think of my Nana.

Probably the best Violet Fragrance I’ve ever owned. Not for the faint hearted. It doesn’t smell cute nor sweet. And it’s not meant to get you compliments (even though I almost always do when I wear it) It’s a fragrance that’s meant to give a vibe, a feeling. It’s Strong, herbaceous and almost medicinal. Works great with a lot of my fragrances and Oud Oils. Fall/Winter/Spring evening fragrance 10/10

Nostalgic, wet, photorealistic violets in the grass. Uplifting and perfect for everyday and layering. Simple in a useful way. Lush has an anti-frizz hair mist with the same scent called Sunny Day. Reminds me of those summer days where you can get a quick rain shower with sunlight still peaking through. Need to repurchase.

If only this excellent musk composition had a little better longevity! To me Kerbside Violet is the smell of a Krtek (Little Mole) tale. I can’t but praise it’s naturalness. A perfect, dreamlike fragrance --- with so little longevity and sillage! The base is rosewood which I like a tad more than sandalwood.

I love violet, especially lush violets. This one is greener than tuca tuca more wearable during the day a spring/summer scent with a bit more "green" in it. Lasts a long time and projects well. Some reviewers have said it smells like gasoline but I don't get that all so maybe its a skin chemistry thing.

It's very verdant, yet earthy balanced with the right sweetness coming from the violet, not too cloying. The powder note gives it the femininity. When I smell it I think of one of those grey days with light rain, but not miserable, it's comforting.

Possibly my favourite Lush scent of all times. So juicy, so clean and so dirty at the same time. It's a passionate dance in a bottle. Not a complex scent by any means, and it doesn't need to be. I love myself a little bit more whenever I wear it.

Lush's Kerbside Violet is that totally kissable stranger on the subway platform who eats those weird purple mints from the newspaper kiosk. There's a blast of burning coal and then bruised wildflowers and finally ashy sweetness.

This is so pretty and so natural. It doesn't smell perfumy, not that perfumy is bad, but sometimes I just want to smell good. It's a close to you skin scent that smells scrumptiously devine. Hard to find though.

I have the perfume balm version and love it. Smells like asphalt streets in summer, laced by violets, wet from the rain, hot from the scorching sun. Unique yet wearable.

Bought this one with the green juice. It is the best violet frag so far! It does away from the usual Lush scent and has the strength of a Lush perfume. So addicting!

Very floral, but masculine, strong fragrance. Very green, jungle-like, perfect for hot days.

This is a strange one: I have a total love-hate-thing going on with this perfume. Most days I can't stand it, but when I feel like I can and I spray it on, I can't stop sniffing at my wrists. It's a very sharp, metallic kind of violet, which totally reminds me of blood. It's a cool mental image, but not something I like to smell on a day-to-day basis. It's very powerful at first, and can easily give me a headache. You only need one spritz in my opinion. After letting it settle a while the sharpness gets a little mellower and reveals this gorgeous mixture of violet, it's leaves and the ground it grows in, with a little powdery aroma in the background. It gives me a feeling of a cold, wet day in the summer. Weirdly the mixture reminds me a little bit of licorice, but I smell licorice in everything for some reason... And this isn't very edible licorice, it' just a weird little note that I get. This is a very unique perfume in my gourmand-heavy wardrobe, and everytime I wear it it's certainly a breath of fresh air. I've been contemplating about giving it away as I wear it so rarely, but when I do, I'm so weirdly drawn to it. This is a perfume to be careful with though: the longevity and sillage are pretty powerful, and this has the potential of knocking people down.

Another iris-violet blind-buy success story. Wow, I can't believe how lucky I've been... The opening is SPECTACULAR -- it's memorable -- a cold, desolate metallic violet leaf note that then blends into a violet flower that because really REALLY beautiful. Less than a minute does it take to go from 'no' to HELL YES. But for me, the best part is the mid-drydown stage. Wow. I used to be on a hiring panel for extra-curricular coach job interviews back when I was a high school teacher several aeons ago, and occasionally I would be fooled by cocksure applicants who interviewed well, but weren't up to standard. It's a tough skill to master, the BS detector, being able to see someone who is all talk and who is the real deal. Anyway, this scent reminds me of an applicant who doesn't interview the best, but can actually do the job, do it well, and cause you minimal headaches further down the line. I'm glad I own this one, really I am... The drydown is a stunning floral-gourmand combo (best words I have at the moment), and it is just AMAZING. I love it. Absolutely love it...

Finally got to try this after they had dropped in stores here, since they're bringing them in stores for the holiday season coming up. Such a delicious violet-y grassy scent, it's so much more alive than Lush's powdery grey & delightfully dreery "V". Kerbside Violet feels like the aftermath of hiking for hours & hours in the forest to finally find a clearing, the sky visible and the flora at it's pique of flowering. Laying in it's bountiful growth & taking in all the scents of the sprouting greens & flowers around you. It's definitely non-complex & casual in such a enjoyable way like others have said, I'd personally say this could be put on in almost any scenario whether casual or formal & still feel just right and not underdressed or overdressed for the occasion. I'm unsure what I would recommend to pair or layer this with, but personally I would play more on the grassier tones for a more androgynous-masculine tone & more florals if you want something more feminine.

I'm not an expert on perfumes by any means, but my mum and I are a fan of Lush and I was wondrously rummaging through her old collection, and she showed me that she had bought this fairly recently. I've been wearing it at night for a couple of days as I've come down with COVID to help bring me somewhere sweeter. The scent at first was pleasantly heady and powerful, though it can't be smelled from further away. However, it's become a little overpowering and I've become a little sick of it, which isn't too much of an issue as it fades quickly, after about 3 hours, although it sticks to clothes for a few days. It puts me in the mind of a fortune teller's parlour, the colour purple, Jeff Buckley albums, classy kindly grandmothers, drapes hanging from ceilings and plush couches. The strong, alcoholic, violet scent fades slowly in to a deeper floral, it smells like a bush of strange, earthy, heady flowers right before dissipating.

This is quite the interestingly odd yet addicting scent. I am reviewing the solid perfume. I love it. It is unique and somewhat dark and melancholic. Hiding underneath the initial odd depressing opening lies an earthly beauty. There is the prominent violet but it feels strange I guess the name is fitting. Imagine being in a run down city with a large basketball court and playground. The concrete and asphalt are old and cracked. The nets from the hoops are long gone. Graffiti on the walls and rusted old swing sets. Off in the corner between the old crumbling asphalt lies a little violet peeking through - it's a refreshing sight in a dilapidated concrete jungle. It's just odd and out of place, not fitting and it simply should not be there but you just want to keep sniffing hoping it does not disappear. The solid is very nice and has great lasting power.

Oh Kerbside Violet...you beautfiul monster. Kerbside begins with a powerful blast of what can only be described as green. Seriously like you're ripping grass, shrubs, flowers, and other plants out of the ground and shoving them up your nose. GREEN. TERRIFYING GREEN! Then out of nowhere, it's gone. Whats left is a strong natural violet scent, supported by jasmine and ylang ylang. About 20 minutes in, the rosewood comes through to add a bit of complexity to the florals. This fragrance is a sweet and powdery floral that has some serious power to it. Large sillage and a good lasting power. I would call this fragrance unisex but its seriously teetering on the feminine side.

I will use this to layer with fragrances which are sweet, and therefore not necessarily to my liking. I think Benzoin figures prominently in Kerbside Violets because I am getting something between paint and petrol, but perhaps that’s the intention...kerbside might indicate the road and the petrol driven cars on it. It also has a medicinal green quality to it. The violet note is green leaf, not soft powdery flowers. I believe this has some merit, even if it isn’t the feminine soft violet fragrance I usually enjoy (Insolence Extrait), but for me it won’t be a stand alone.

I purchased a bottle of this in September whilst at a work meeting (I work for Lush) To me, it's Tuca Tuca's little sister, who appears during the day, rather than at night. Its a soft, powdery, cold, delicate violet compared to Tuca Tuca's heavy, deep, rich and smoky scent I love both. I'm addicted to Violet! Kerbside Violet reminds me of Guerlain's Apres L'Ondee. Not identical but in the same forest. I hope this becomes part of Lush's range in store, as Volume 3, which this fragrance is from, has not been guaranteed to be in all stores in the future. Fingers crossed!

Lovely monster violet. I agree it's like ripping grass and shrubs. It smells earthy then comes violet with a sweet powdery edge, but nothing like those candy violets around in mainstream. I like Violetta di Parma by Borsari more than others, but that is a polished violet perfume, while Kerbside Violet is an explosion of the earth, but it doesn't go without an elegant touch. Generally feminine, but since Lush perfumes smell more like pure smells rather than perfumes, there is no clear gender label. KV becomes sweeter in time on my skin and a little powdery. Nice.

This is not a violet scent but a violet leaf scent. Which is not floral, but an olfactory of spicy fresh cut grass with a bit more depth. The violet leaf mostly encompass the entire fragrance with just a small hint of wood & jasmine. It a nice, fresh, (I would consider) gender neutral scent. But there is absolutely no violets in here nore is this at all a traditional floral fragrance. If that is what your looking for. Someone needs to edit the notes on this page.

After an almighty initial blast of piercing metallic effluvia which very nearly scared me away, Kerbside Violet settles into an insanely accurate rendition of tiny violets dusted with a fine powdery mist of wood and damp verdure. An iris strewn violet dry down which lasted for a few good hours on my skin and has me remembering the gorgeous coupling of Vanessa Ives and Dorian Gray in Penny Dreadful, that is to say, a sexy victorian love affair.

Natural and not super complex, but I find myself reaching for it more than I would have expected. I work in a very industrial zone, and I think sometimes it fits into that environment in a very incongruous but charming way. I enjoy it as it mellows on me, and it was a welcome surprise.

This is really a very descriptive name! The oily quality of the oud has sort of a leather asphalt accord which does remind me of flowers growing along a road. The violet is true to nature and powdery fresh. The oud helps the scent last longer than most violet scents. Lovely!

piercing at first, and then a loveliness that lingers. i love "kerbside violet" mixed with another lush fragrance called "lust". i was told at the lush store that "kerbside violet" will be discontinued. please don't.

Despite not smelling minty, this perfume felt very minty to me: fresh, sharp, almost dewy. A very cool, floral scent that's simultaneously green and bold!

Love wearing this on a warm rainy day. A special scent that isn't overpowering.

Definitely a daytime spring/summer for me. It starts very green, and herbal, almost astringent, but mellows out into a very iris-y violet. It has a bit of petrichor, to me. It's a really earthy, green, fresh violet, not a sweet one.

Not for me. I love Violets so I sort of blind bought a small travel sized spray of this fragrance - mistake. I actually smelt the solid perfume and tested that out and it was a fresh Violet, very pleasant. The opening is piercing green woods. I sprayed it twice and my husband about 8 feet away from me wrinkled his nose in disgust asking what I just sprayed - he didn't believe it was supposed to be a perfume. My reaction wasn't as negative as my husband's, but I found it too fresh spicy, too woodsy, too green and I had to wash it off. I gave it away to my grandma, who loves Violets, but she too passed it on. I checked the expiration date and it wasn't expired and I bought it directly from Lush. I'm tempted to go back for the solid perfume, because I did enjoy that smell, just not the liquid.

This thing smells horrific to me. I guess it’s the violet...? Though it smells more irisy to me. I love woody notes and powdery notes, so I was surprised at this smell. I asked a friend to smell this and they really loved it. I just really don’t like it.

I found this one rather green, woody and herbaceous. Very natural smelling Violet, not sweet and sugary. If you like a more candied style of Violet then try Lush Confetti!

I was curious to try this because of the name and the idea that it's lilac mixed with cement. I discovered I don't like lilac.

I had a roommate who worked at Lush when Kerbside Violet was launched in 2014 and I while I loved this fragrance and shop at Lush often, I never got around to buying it. I was reminded of the existence of Kerbside Violet last year when Sali Hughes featured it in a column on vegan perfumes and decided to finally add it to my spring perfume wardrobe. Lush perfumes are fantastic quality but the scents they create are really unique, so I would definitely not recommend a blind buy for any of their fragrances. I was initially disappointed when I smelled this in the shop, because there were too many competing smells from their other products for me to smell it properly. I stepped out into the street prepared to leave empty handed. It was a cold, dark winter evening. Before walking to my train I smelled the blotter again and I was instantly transported to a spring day. I immediately went back into the shop a purchased a bottle. On my way home I felt as if I was carrying the seeds of spring itself in my bag. Kerbside Violet is a very fresh, green floral. Initially there is more emphasis on the wet, earthy smell of the leaves but the dry down captures the woody, powdery smell of the flowers in a way that is pleasantly sweet rather than cloying. Kerbside Violet brings to mind images of wet track fields after the rain, and rain drying on chainlink fences and playground equipment. There is a definite metallic component to this fragrance that electrifies it. I love the new simple rectangular bottle and black label with Lush’s signature font. The juice in my bottle of Kerbside Violet is a rich, verdant shade of green, reminiscent of green Chartreuse or absinthe. While browsing Lush’s UK website I noticed that instead of the aforementioned bright green, the juice of Kerbside Violet is whiskey coloured. The label on my bottle states that it was was made in England so I was intrigued as to why the colour was so different. I contacted Lush to inquire and was told unequivocally that the fragrance is the same and that colour variations in Lush products are normal due to their handcrafted nature. If they have deliberately made the juice more green for the Canada/US market it hasn’t changed the scent at all, and I find it better suits the fragrance. A few tips if you are interested in trying more Lush perfumes: in January 2020 Lush relaunched their fragrances and now divides their perfume collection into a core range and an exclusive range. Perfumes in the core range have white labels and are available in every shop and online. Perfumes in the exclusive range have black labels and are only available in select shops and online. In NYC Kerbside Violet is only available at the 34th Street shop. Many of the perfumes in their collection (both the white label core and the black label exclusives) have previously been reviewed by Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez in their incomparable Perfumes: The Guide. However, because Lush always seems to be relaunching and relabeling, they are listed variously as being made by B Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful Perfumes, Gorilla Perfumes, and Lush Perfumes. Once again I definitely wouldn’t recommend a blind buy, and if you’re lucky enough to live near a Lush make sure you step outside the shop to best experience these gorgeous fragrances. This was my first Lush perfume purchase and I'll definitely be back for more.

Kerbside Violet, by, Gorilla Perfume, Lush. As I left the busy olfactory cacophony of the local, Brighton, Lush store and wandered home, I lazily strolled through the intimacy of the Royal Pavilion Gardens in which various cheerful persons were busking: their young faces playfully painted like cats sporting majestic whiskers, just as birds twittered merrily in the early evening calm and, in the busy streets beyond, itinerant magicians, mime artists, and various 'living statues' performed to small crowds as part of the opening weekend of this year’s Brighton Festival. Indeed, I wondered if, following a serendipitous time-slip of sorts, whether I had wandered in to a larger street performance of The Winter’s Tale such was the overt Bohemian quality in the air and, looking towards a spectacular weeping elm tree that had just abundantly come in to flower, took in the diverse pungent green and dusty smells wafting from the various flowers and plants in the garden. As the light suddenly shifted due to the subtle appearance of a net of rather muted partial cloud-cover, and the shadows capriciously lengthened, I watched as a man complete in a stripy onsie resembling a pantomime Gaul complete with jaunty beret indefatigably blew streams of bubbles in to the air: their slippery iridescence hypnotically glorious before the inevitable collapse of their rapid expiration. A squirrel scampered up the peculiar contours of the elm: the tree's stout trunk a platform upon which the magnificent umbrella of its cascading braches and bushy foliage could be seen to be cleverly grafted like a woody prosthetic. The squirrel stopped and appeared to look upon me, singularly, with a sense of mischief and tease and I reflected that at any moment I might hear the tell-tale clickety-click rattle of a friendly large stick insect beckoning me towards the stony steps of an occult labyrinth hidden somewhere underneath the nearby Royal Pavilion Palace. Awaiting its appearance and amidst all this dizzy magic, I checked my wrist, re-sniffing the area whereupon the heady delights of Kerbside Violet seemed to brew as if mythically nourished by the blood pumping through my radial artery, the forthright unapologetic violet chord eloping in to the air with the pastel, near-cloying, textures of ylang ylang and rosewood with unconditional carefree gay abandon. A sort-of large, weird, tumbling, off-chypre, organic, distant and raw variant of Geoffrey Beene’s revolutionary Grey Flannel, I stood amazed at the depth of enquiry required to comprehend the fullness of this ‘simple’ perfume and the way in which it was pulling me in: its olfactory hues as bright and green as the hazy sunlit forest in which an innocent Ofelia could explore before the descent: the latter dramatized by charcoal, steel blues and shadows as lit by the fullness of the moon: the earthy, saline, musky taste and smell of the nearby ancient faun most apparent before the arrival of its physical being in to the realms of the living. Spellbinding!

I was very kindly sent a 10 mL spray bottle of this by a lovely Fragrantican who didn't care for it and said it smelled like gasoline. I was going through my collection the other day and realized that this batch was set to expire next month, so I spent much of the fall and January testing this perfume. I do get the gasoline scent from this. It opens up with a sharpness common to masculine fragrances, but somehow, the violet leaf doesn't smell overtly masculine here to me. It's sharp, woody, green, and also herbal. It smells like cars and tires, asphalt and concrete, limes and grass, and slowly, violets and maybe a touch of sweet jasmine (there is jasmine as well as ylang ylang oil in here.) It does become sweeter and powdery in the drydown, but not a makeup powdery, it's different than that. Not sure how to describe it - I guess the closest thing might be a powdery violet candy, although I've never tried one - but that would be the closest thing in my imagination. Maybe it's because of the name, but Kerbside Violet reminds me of the book A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I love both names. They both are named based on something natural occurring in a manmade, urban environment. Whenever I smell this fragrance, I think of a city basketball court in late summer evenings. There are rubber sneakers running on warm cement, patches of grass in clean soil with wild purple flowers, cars driving past with exhaust fumes and horns honking...I don't know, this perfume just puts a picture of that scene in my head. When I first saw an urban basketball court I was fascinated by it - it seemed so out of place in a bustling city. I'm not even that familiar with the setting I've described, but it's what I smell - something harder and unnatural incongruously paired with something purely natural. Somehow, it works, and the result is something unexpectedly beautiful. I don't know that this is worth the exorbitant price being asked for it on eBay. Maybe I should have hoarded my bottle since it's becoming such a priceless possession. I will say that it is unlike anything that I have ever smelt - I cannot really compare it in essence with anything. That is rare to say about a perfume these days. If you spray too much, you might get a comment that it smells like "curry", as it does come across herbal - so go easy on the sprayer if you're lucky enough to have this.
