Shanaan

Shanaan opens with a blast of petitgrain (vaguely reminding me of Tauer Incense Extreme at that stage), that will morph quickly towards a smoky-woody (nearly) pure olibanum, with woody support. A hint of citrus will escort the olibanum during the whole journey, and only in the base does a subtle touch of labdanum round the edges. Projection is soft/moderate and longevity is great, an overall performance as expected for an EDP. Overall very similar to CdG Avignon, and the crowds of similar usual suspects to follow. It is a bit more airy and better fine-tuned thanthe "other" incense fragrances out there, that said the differences are very subtle and hard to notice without sticking the nose on the skin. This is one of the first to have followed the incense trend opened by the CdG incense series and would definitely recommend it to who doesn't already own a churchy incense fragrance in their collection, as it would be very redundant with Avignon, Heeley Cardinal and most of all Montale Full Incense. If, like me, you're found of incense, get it anyways haha In any cases, a great straightforward incense, decently priced on ebay. Colder days, 30+ ⁝

Shanaan captures, more wholly and more accurately than any other scent I've ever experienced, not only the scent but the sinewy and vaporous feel of true frankincense resin smoke. From the moment it hits your skin until the moment the last tendril of scent caresses your olfactory bulb you are treated to wonderful and therapeutic frankincense smoke. It is so accurate it is almost eerie. To discuss notes with this fragrance is missing the point - every note here is utilized to perfection in the frankincense smoke accord. Sublime, and as Aur-ha-kadosh said, very zen. The only question is - do you want to smell like frankincense smoke all day long? This is a scent I love conceptually although rarely feel inclined to wear; but every now and again the mood strikes and Shanaan is the perfect scent to wear and nothing, nothing at all could replace it or do its job better than it does.

Shanaan is less bitter than Avignon, less sweet than Full Incense, and smoother than both. It is so smooth that it is difficult to pick out individual notes, very well blended and airy. Leans slightly feminine, but it's still unisex. Full bottle worthy for incense fans and for those looking for an elegant, understated incense to add to their wardrobe.

NAG-CHAMPA/GUAIC WOOD HEAVEN!!!!!!!!!! If I had to have only one 'incence-type' fragrance this would be it! If this is what it smells like during Catholic Mass it wouldn't convert me but I would be interested in just standing in the church just to smell this in the air. Actually I feel that CdG's "Avignon" is more 'Mass-like". I want my home to smell like this and even though I burn incense I rarely get a scent this pure perhaps because there is none of the burnt wood scent that goes along with an incense stick burning. Perhaps I may find a cone-scented version. If I am ever so lucky to obtain a bottle I will surely experiment with it in my oil burner. It has put me in a good mood just sniffing my hand. :D This is one step up from my initial M. Micallef frag 'Gaiac". Luckyscent does not currently carry it so I will have to hunt it down elsewhere. I get no lemon or petit grain. The cedar is faint, overpowered by the labdanum, patchouli, amber and musk. I think a hefty dose of guaic wood and Molecule 01 would come close to giving off a similar scent. Divine. Just divine!

it opens and stays the first minutes a perfect copy of Incense de Montale but it is less powerfull and more subtle and sinuous, i like this perfume but will not buy it cause it is weak to me, i can't smell it after 3 minutes and i love scents i can smell on me all the time, the kind of scent which renews its power and not like this one which begins and then dies little by little ! i prefer auto regenerating perfumes lol but still it is a spiritual perfume, very zen and quiet

This is not a bad scent but I find it very boring and common for a niche brand. Nothing memorable about it. Just a decent citrusy incense scent on a woody base. Performance is moderate overall. Dominant notes are churchy sub-sweet incense, strong sandalwood, mild amber and labdanum. The petit grain is at the background giving a nice discreet citrusy touch to the blend.

Overwhelming incense other notes either nonexistent or too subtle to overcome the frankincense and myrrh. If you want to smell like an altar boy right after mass this is your perfume.

A whiff of sawdust on opening, followed by soft incense an woods with a bit of citrus.

catholic church incense much like CDG's Avignon and Heeley Cardinal. Avignon is more pine-y than this, Cardinal is much lighter/weaker. In the opening of Shanaan you can smell a little bit of the lemon brightening this up, but from beginning to end, it's mass incense. I've always loved that smell. It's the smell of midnight mass on Christmas eve without the patented Catholic guilt being drilled into your skull over and over until finally you're 16 and you decide you don't believe and you're not going to church anymore and endless arguments with your mother about how you're going straight to hell...what? I don't even believe in hell..that is the whole point....why can't you live and let live and respect my decisions..jeez!!! Thanks for being so supportive, mom as always ..I reallyyyy appreciate it! Wait, what happened here?.....oh yeah perfume review ...Ok, so anyway..this is really good. Like most of the Micallef's, there is a longevity problem (3 hours) , but I felt the sillage was pretty good and it actually lasts longer than other Micallef's I've sampled. I already own Avignon, so I don't really need to buy an fb of this...but if I got it in a swap or something, then definitely. It smells pretty amazing...even if it does also conjure up some family dysfunction from deep in the past lol

Shanaan A great incense fragrance! The opening is a blend of the arresting incense, slightly green and citrusy lemon. I notice evidence of cedar. After a time on my skin, a touch of amber, woody cedar builds up on my skin and patchouli joins in underneath the smoky frankincense. The frankincense is indescribable, ethereal. There is a soft, warm labdanum-cedar accord under the incense. The ethereal dimension of the frankincense is further reinforced by the wafts of delicate citrus underneath. I think this is one of the most amazing incenses around. Translucent. Staying power on my skin is great and sillage is about arm length. I think Shannan is absolutely worth trying for incense lovers.

Although I don't believe it lasts as long, I still think I like this one a bit more than Montale's Full Incense. It's slightly more aldehydic, with a little bit better dimension. With Montale's version, you're basically getting full on, bittersweet Midnight Mass incense. Shanaan M. Micallef, however, gives you the same, but with an ever so slightly watery Easter baptism in the opening. Not by much, but it's there (maybe the watery lemon)? If only this creation lasted a lasted a little longer. Fun bottle! 9 /10

I have been seeking to buy a full bottle of Shannan since my first sniff earlier this year via an exclusive tester hidden behind a counter. It's composition and balance is unquestionably the finest ever created. I wish it was globally more accessible to purchase. Very much on my want / hunt items to add to my collection. If ever there is an incense style fragrance that deserves to be at the very top of the list to define it's category, this is it. 10/10

Gorgeous, very much like Heely Cardinal, but sweeter and nicer than CdG Avignon. I've gone through 3 or 4 bottles now, and usually have trouble with the spray mechanism by the time I get down to the last third. As with so many perfumes, the cap is useless for anything except rolling around in the bottom of your handbag.

Citrusy, sour, incense. This one is pretty heavy, woody incense: labdanum, frankincense and myrrh, cedar and amber with a good size load of citrus on top. I haven't smelled incense composition like this before. Not my favorite, but definitely different and unique!

This is Avignon diluted to hell and back, lasts for 1 minute tops, not exaggerating. If you love this perfume profile of Frank incense, buy Montale's "Full Incense", thank me later

Dusty books, but I like it. There’s something nostalgic about it but not vintage. It’s very muted, an intimate scent. Not for everyone.

Unique ,, I like it but its overpriced Shanaan was launched in 2010 not 2005
