Asphalt Flower

ASPHALT FLOWER POTION (OIL): My friend wore this (circa 1999/2000) and I was bound and determined to find this fragrance. Very few fragrances make me shell out the dough with out a question as to price. This was definitely one of them! At the time, it was as easy as purchasing this potion from the nearest M.A.C. counter. I wore this very sparingly and thus, still have two (partially filled) original potion vials of the oil from the '90s. I believe it came in a set of three. So nice revisiting my old scents... :) Edit: Just discovered Fragram! See the actual pic there because this (above) IS NOT IT!!!

Full bodied and delicious. Smells alittle softer than the original. Less smokey but definately powerful. has a really nice powdery dry down and finish. one of the best. Needs to be permanent at stores to balance the light coolness of Turquatic.

Asphalt Flower smells a lot like Angel and Angel Violette on me, and I can imagine the asphalt note. Strong fragrance, requires just a touch. Sturdy elegant rollerball. I'd love to see MAC bring Asphalt Flower back as permanent collection.

Way back in 2000, a friend of mine, her name was Danielle, wore this and I was immediately drawn to it for a familiar accord that I must've smelled in the ether before. It turns out it was a violet accord, and it was in Asphalt Flower. She gave me a sample as she worked at the MAC counter, and I was decidedly self-conscious as I was concerned it may have come off as too effeminate. What I would do is layer it whatever else I wore and I love the results. At one time I would layer it with Helmut Lang Cologne. I remember when at a Northern Soul night shuffling around, a beautiful girl approached me and said "you smell delicious, I could just eat you up." Fast forward years later, and I have dozens of violet-centered scents in my collection.

I've had this one forever and it's still going strong. I bought it as part of a MAC limited edition makeup line. Love the fact that it comes in a rollerball which makes it easy to apply and pop in your handbag. This starts off very sweet and intense on me, always staying close to skin. Very powerful little scent! As it settles down you can smell the powdery violet and vanilla. Slightly smoky with a hint of balsamic woods blended in carefully which smells a little masculine. This creates a fine balance which keeps it from becoming a sweet floral overload. The name "Asphalt Flower" suits this scent perfectly. I can almost imagine an old smoky asphalt road overgrown with strange wildflowers. Nostalgia from my Gothic times that I'll keep forever. Features glossy violet and iris petals, vanilla and patchouli with top notes of violet, ylang-ylang; mid-notes of iris, heliotrope and a finale of olibanum, patchouli and M∙A∙C signature vanilla."

I work for MAC and have a coworker who has been with the company for about 25 years, and I’ve been wearing this fragrance called Magma by Andrea Maack that my coworker swears up and down that it’s identical to Asphalt Flower. I didn’t think too much of it until today - I had a customer who brought up this fragrance unprovoked (idk if it triggered a memory) but I grabbed the perfume from my bag so he could smell it and he said “yep, that’s Asphalt Flower”. All of this has happened within a weeks time, also. I can’t say for certain from myself smelling this fragrance if it’s an exact dupe, but for those here who are looking to get their hands on that smell again - this might be one to look into!

Petrichor, wet asphalt and violets. My rollerball survived all these years and it's still potent AF. I remember wearing this with all black and MAC's goth makeup collection sometime in the 2000s. Before all the dupes appeared and black eyeshadows and lipstick was hard to find. I bought this fragrance to go with it and I'm glad I did. It's long discontinued and smells like a niche fragrance these days. Great for cold, rainy weather when you don't want anything comforting but to dwell in the dark and cold and be left alone. Vampire living in the city, concrete jungle vibes.

I had the original, bought in 2004. It smelled like wet petrichor and violets. Amazing but had light projection and sillage. And was off MAC counters pretty fast to my dismay. Would love to get my hands on it again!!! I wore it in Florence, Tuscany, on rainy days - it matched the atmosphere and made me feel at one with my universe there. Penelope you are right! That's the vial I had.

This fragrance smells like petrichor, asphalt when the rain starts, and violets. It is utterly unique and intoxicating. I wish I had bought more of it, as I've yet to smell anything even reminiscent of it. It's one of the few fragrances that when I wear it people constantly ask me what I am wearing.

Smells like smokey violet bubble gum. I'll pass. It's like fishnet stockings in children's sizes. Just compared it to S.J. Dupont Signature for men, and that's a lot less fake smelling. Habanita by Moulinard would probably be a better idea too for a smokey heliotrope.

I had the original from the 1990s. it was a perfume oil and once you put it on, it stayed! I loved the MAC potions, wish they would bring them back
