Santal Auster

A must try for fragrance. It’s very very dry at times and creamy soft at other times... really, really great!! This is the antonym of TF Oud Wood, where Oud Wood is that dark forest, damp, fallen log type of scent. Santal Auster is the freshly milled wood, fine powder sawdust in the air type dry. I believe this is an anytime of year fragrance that can be worn in high heat/humidity or cold winter days. High heat warrants less sprays of course!

Smooth bitter yet silenced sandalwood.... Powdered sandy sandalwood with a balanced touch of almost every note mentioned above and i believe i can sniff a touch of apricots for more smoothness. A very sexy blend indeed with a grand dosage of sophistication that can make the wearer (with a great grooming of course) look and felt sexy. Beautiful.

Really nice choice for the Sandalwood enthusiast.. CreamY, innocent, soft Sandalwood against the naughtiness and sensual assault of musky Castoreum, with a lovely sweet oud and opoponax undercurrent. One of the better Sandalwood offerings.

A dark greasy coconut sandalwood, with bourbon garnishes of patchouli, boozy of sweet castoreum, oud, opoponax and strong leathery styrax. Ripe, dark, sometimes dry at other times...sweet and sticky. Overall it doesn't change much. It reminded me of a sweeter PRAYER of trnp and the "taste" I get is like that an English oak essential oil. Bold.

Sandalwood with animalic undertones.Must try for sandalwood lovers.Dry sandalwood ,castoreum,patchouli and Oud makes it to stay longer on the skin.Its a wonderful fragrance all the way.This can be pulled in all season but it will shine more in winter.

I wore Santal Auster yesterday and so far, it’s my favorite from the discovery set though I don’t love it. Major performance from just one spray, this lasted all day and this morning I can still smell it. It’s equal parts sandalwood and patchouli. There’s a boozy, smoking jacket kind of vibe in here too. I don’t smell Oud specifically (I’m sure it’s a synthetic one) and I agree, as with many of Maher fragrances, this leans masculine.

I wanted to love this, but it’s not for me. First note I’m picking up is the damn beaver, supported by patch, and a faint whiff of the sandalwood and oud below that. Someone below me said this smells greasy and I gotta agree. Beaver sweetens up on the dry down and blends everything together a bit better, but it’s not my cup of tea.

Super strange take on sandalwood as oud and patchouli overpowers it. Very dry fragrance. It gives off Raid vibe TBH. 3 SPRAYS FROM THE SAMPLE VIAL LAT ALL DAY.

Santal Auster is indeed a wonderful scent, beautiful even, and it's the sandalwood that is the main star here. But, sandalwood alone is what attracts me to it, and for that reason, I can't really see myself putting this sandalwood scent above a few others that I have in my collection (that I don't even wear) as well as some pure sandalwood oils (Mysore and otherwise), and as such, I really can't see myself ever reaching for this, even if I did purchase it. It is damn DAMN good, though. The sandalwood is really realistic and totally enchanting. A reluctant 'no'...
