Porto Neroli

#81 of My Fragrance Journey - Maison Alhambra Porto Neroli: The White Linen Lie It shouldn’t smell this good. That was my first reaction. Not poetic. Not dramatic. Just confusion. You spray it and your brain kind of glitches for a second because the smell and the price tag don’t line up. Neroli straight away. Bright. Slightly bitter. That clean, almost fizzy citrus-floral glow. Bitter orange underneath, warm and a little sun-drenched. White florals weaving through it - not heavy, not indolic, just luminous. It smells like pressed linen in sunlight. Like you’ve just stepped out of cold water onto warm stone. It smells like money. Or at least like someone who spends the summer near it. And yes - it’s clearly riffing on Neroli Portofino. We all know that. No point pretending otherwise. But here’s the part that surprised me: it actually pulls it off. But here’s the part people don’t mention enough. Out of the box? It can be sharp. A bit synthetic around the edges. The first spray might make you hesitate. There’s a bite to it that doesn’t match the smooth Mediterranean fantasy the bottle’s selling. Don’t judge it too quickly. I left mine alone for a few weeks. Drawer. Cool. Forgotten. When I came back to it - different fragrance. Rounder. Softer. The citrus had settled. The florals felt more blended, less jagged. It stopped trying to prove itself and just... worked. Maceration isn’t marketing fluff here. It genuinely helps. In heat - real heat - this thing shines. Humid air, warm skin, post-walk, post-gym. Midday sun bouncing off the pavement. It doesn’t collapse. It doesn’t go sour. It stays crisp and luminous. That expensive-soap aura just holds steady while everything else melts. On warm skin, it blooms instead of burning. That’s rarer than it should be. Performance is moderate. Let’s be honest. It’s not beast mode. A few solid hours of presence, then it sits closer. But at this price? You can spray properly. Two turns into four without guilt. And that changes the experience. You’re not rationing. You’re wearing it. There’s freedom in that. It’s not complex. It doesn’t evolve dramatically. What you smell in the first hour is essentially the story. But it tells that story well. Neroli. Light. Clean skin. Ease. It smells like a white tee that fits perfectly. Like you planned to look effortless and accidentally succeeded. There’s something quietly confident about it. The kind of clean that feels chosen, not default. Not sterile. Not a hotel lobby. More... curated summer. Is it groundbreaking? No. Is it enjoyable? Absolutely. Just give it time. The bottle you open isn’t the bottle it becomes. Vibe: sunlit coastline, crisp linen, skin that’s been in good weather Performance: moderate projection, decent longevity - spray generously Best for: high heat, summer mornings, close proximity The truth: Let it sit. Maison Alhambra Porto Neroli is a must buy. It is a blatant knock-off of Tom Ford Neroli Portofino in bottle design and from what I understand, they discontinued it in its current packaging if not the fragrance entirely. I hope it isn't discontinued outright because Porto Neroli is a problem. I own several neroli forward fragrances. I own Ferrari Bright Neroli, Le Male Pride (2022), Just Jack Neroli and Dunhill Icon. Dunhill Icon is the one out of this pack that is a bit more. When I say that, Icon goes very very woody and unique. Like Porto Neroli, Just Jack's Neroli is a blatant clone of Neroli Portofino. I do not know the note breakdown of Neroli, but it is cheap compared to Porto Neroli. I do not know what it is, but Just Jack's smells more synthetic, especially off first blast. Porto Neroli and Le Male Pride are both smoother. Bright Neroli while not being as synthetic has a bit of a sharp bitter orange note that can be slightly off-putting. Porto Neroli however is a great mix of neroli, citrus and jasmine up top. My comparison, Le Male Pride has a mix of yuzu and blood orange while Porto Neroli has lemon and orange with a slight bright orange. I find Porto Neroli more of an aquatic scent than the rest of my Neroli fragrances due to the pleasant sea salt. I wonder if it is because of the sea salt in the mid. There is also some good lavender to it too. The base is mostly amber and herbal notes. In performance, I think on Pride is in a better spot but slightly. Porto Neroli wears like an Eau de Parfum and lasts like it. I actually have mixed it with sprays of Just Jack Neroli behind my ears so there less of the abrasive smell from it. Overall it is amazing. Porto Neroli gets an 8.4 out of 10 from me. Added aquatic to neroli in a way I never thought I needed in my life. If Lattafa doesn't bring this back in some way, I will be let down.

*****Edit***** Ya know, our fellow frag-head @esteban747 left some words for us a few comments down, and actually has a valid point! Sometimes we do go over board with the "Maceration thing" and we come off a bit "snobbish" acting like we're some sort of fragrance-connoisseurs/columnists or something. I myself am sometimes guilty of that and forget that Im talking about a freakin'$20 fragrance, LOL! Thing is, sometimes the changes that "maceration" brings are prrretty freakin' drastic, plus I actually value some of my "inexpensive clone" fragrances just as much as any of my top-notch, expensive designer/niche fragrances and therefore find that they're also worth "deep-diving" into regardless of price!😉, shoot, Maybe even MORE SO since the outrageously over priced OG's! Makes me feel like some of these High-end Designer/Niche brands got some splainin' ta do.. ya'll feel me?? Anyhow, yes! MH Porto Neroli's performance AND scent has definately improved since I purchased it back in June (I think it was June 🤔). The opening really smelled A LOT more like Lemon Pledge back then as compared to now. Also, the before almost non-existant Amber note has intensified for sure and I think is what toned down that "Lemon Pledge vibe". Longevity/projection has also imrproved kinda drastically. Now I get a good 6-7 hours where before I'd only get about 4 hours, 5 hours if I went HAM on the sprays, whereas now there's no need to "GO HAM", lol Im super glad Id waited bc I Like the scent so much, Id have emptied my bottle in NO TIME due to over-spraying. The change in scent profile and improvement with performance was VERY well worth the wait. Tbh tho, I'll still probably "over do it" bc I LOVE this scent and that Lemon Pledge opening is just about GONE! Thanks to whomever took the time to read my updated review!

Al haramain killed it with this scent and I will NEVER buy Neroli Portofino because of how great this is !!! This opens up very fresh,bright, but also very smooth and refreshing and gives me that fresh laundry by the stream type of vibe. As it dries down you this gets less bright and more rich and smooth ! Very simple but pleasant scent that’s perfect for casual or business casual events in the spring summer and actually smells more expensive than it is !!! In comparison to Neroli Portofino I’d say this is more green and I don’t get a semi-aquatic vibe with Porto Neroli. In comparison to 4711 this is definitely more modern,less floral and not as sharp and bright. I actually was hoping for something more similar to 4711 and this fits that bill perfectly !!! Performance- You get decent projection for 45 minutes before it quickly dies down to a skin scent. The longevity on this is actually impressive though !!! This lasts on my skin 8-12 hours but you will smell this randomly throughout the day when you move and people will smell this when you get close which makes it perfect for work. With this scent profile this performance is perfect as Neroli is great if it’s light and airy but if it’s thick it gives me a headache. However, if you want something strong I’d recommend Neroli Canvas !! Overall rating -8.5 out of 10 !!! Excellent smell that Will be a staple in my fragrance wardrobe for the summer months and I love 4711 but it’s not exactly reliable in terms of performance so this is a great replacement Sidenote- I saw some people saying this smelled similar to suntan lotion and the first 2 times I wore this I DID pick that up but after the bottle sat for a while that went away and I was left with a better more modern version of 4711

Quick summary- truly excellent clone of Tom Ford that is similar in every way but way, way less expensive. Since this is not an overly complicated scent, GO WITH THIS DUPE and save $250! Significantly better than the Fragrance World clone. You know the scent as it's been done by so many houses, so I'll point out any differences. As evidence, I own both clones and tested them twice against each other for several hours and once against the OG which I have a decant. Maison Alhambra is a bit stronger on the orange, which makes it slightly less smooth than the original. But folks, we're splitting hairs on that because there is absolutely nothing edgy about the original, this dupe, of the Fragrance World (Neroli Riviera) version. FW version is more flowery, lighter, and more feminine but also weaker and less longevity- I had to really press my nose to my wrist after two hours and the blossom was barely there. For MA, the longevity and sillage are the same as the OG, which isn't great for any of the versions, frankly because there aren't many fragrances that have a natural neroli or light citrus scent that go long. With truly interesting and complex scents, the original is so often hard to match, or it has beastly lasting power and thus justifies the expense, but here it does not! Especially with the silly price of this particular Tom Ford and the light nature of it.
