Hibiscus Mahajád

I first discovered Hibiscus Mahajad through a batch of samples I ordered. I was testing several fragrances at the time, expecting maybe one or two to stand out, but this one completely stole the show. It immediately overshadowed everything else in the sample pack. That moment already told me enough, but I still went to Skins later to smell it again in person. One more sniff confirmed it: this was absolutely the one. The first spray surprised me in the best way. It smelled elegant, smooth and beautifully crafted, but also very floral. For a brief moment I wondered if it might lean too feminine for my usual taste. That hesitation disappeared quickly. As soon as it settled on my skin, the whole composition unfolded and it became love at first sniff. The opening is floral with a gentle fruity touch and the hibiscus is noticeable right away. What struck me most was how calming and comforting it felt. There’s a warmth to it, almost like receiving a hug from someone you haven’t seen in a long time. It has this quiet reassurance to it, a soft “you’re fine” kind of feeling. After about twenty minutes the fragrance becomes fresher and slightly more airy, while keeping its floral character. I’ve never been someone who gravitates toward florals, and I genuinely didn’t expect to enjoy a scent like this. But this one feels different — refined, niche and unlike anything I’ve smelled before. It doesn’t resemble anything in my collection. The drydown turns into a soft, warm floral veil that feels peaceful, affectionate and quietly powerful. It has an emotional softness to it that makes the fragrance feel personal rather than just a scent you wear on the outside. Performance is outstanding. On my skin it lasts exceptionally well and projects strongly without being harsh. The sillage remains noticeable throughout the day. One moment that really impressed me was when I sprayed two sprays on a shirt, put it away in my wardrobe, and weeks later — even after washing — I could still smell it. That tells you everything about its strength. My personal ratings: longevity 10 out of 10, projection 9, sillage 8, and overall a solid 9. I’ve received compliments calling it unique and very good. It’s the kind of fragrance that gets noticed because it doesn’t smell familiar or mainstream. People can tell it’s something different. Although it’s versatile, I personally use it mainly for special occasions such as weddings, dinners or events where I want a more memorable and elegant scent. It has a presence that fits those moments perfectly. If there’s one thing to mention, the opening might feel a bit too floral for some men. I can imagine it scaring off people who usually stay far away from florals. The price is on the higher end as well, but considering the composition and especially the performance, I think it’s justified. If I had to describe this fragrance as a scene, it would be a quiet beach at sunset. A soft breeze, a cold cocktail in your hand, warm sunlight still on your skin, and a moment where everything feels balanced. That’s the feeling Hibiscus Mahajad gives me. Overall, this is a unique, beautifully crafted floral-amber that won me over even though florals were never my thing. It performs incredibly well, it feels special, and it’s a fragrance you don’t just wear — you experience it.

Disclaimer: This will be a pretty long review, mainly because this is my favorite fragrance and it's about time I reviewed it. From the very first spray, the opening pairs cassis and mint—sharp, minty, and slightly bitter. The mint is fleeting, really only there in the first initial sprays, but it gives the introduction a cool shimmer. The cassis, however, lingers: at first bitter and spicy thanks to the cinnamon, then softening into something greener and smoother, never sharp or screechy. The heart is what's talked about the most with Hibiscus Mahajád. The rose and hibiscus accord is jammy, sweet, and lush, almost like freshly bloomed flowers dripping in fruit jam. There’s a subtle cooling quality here, from that mint before it's gone completely, given those freshly bloomed florals a slight chill, adding freshness to the sweetness. Closer to the skin, there’s another side: the ambrette and leather bring a dirty, almost animalic undertone. It adds more complexity and depth—reminding you that this is more than just a “pretty fruity floral.” At first this aspect was overwhelming and off-putting, but over time I’ve come to love how it enriches the scent. In the air, though, Hibiscus Mahajád is pure elegance and allure. It has a grace that makes you stop mid-movement just to catch another whiff. It manages to be both playful and flirty, yet at the same time seductive and assertive. With time, I notice more: the cinnamon, I couldn't smell much of it when I first got it, but having smelled other fragrancs and trained my nose more, after giving the cassis opening that fresh spice, it emerges softly in the drydown and takes on that usual cinnamon smell—dusty, slightly sweet and spicy but restrained. The vanilla, too, grows stronger as the hours pass, transitioning from a supporting role behind the hibiscus and rose to a smooth, lead note being supported by the hibiscus and rose. What I love most about Hibiscus Mahajád is its nuance and complexity. Many reviews call it simply a “sweet jammy rose” or a “fruity floral,” but I think that undersells it. Yes, those elements are there, but this fragrance is so much more layered—spicy, green, animalic, vanillic—all moving in harmony beneath the rose-hibiscus core. It’s also versatile. This extrait concentration has massive power and longevity, so it can work in all four seasons and across occasions—but spraying wisely is key, especially in summer when the heat amplifies it. Personally, this is my favorite fragrance in my collection. If I had to keep only one bottle forever, this would be it. It’s also the scent that gave me my first unique compliment almost a year ago: while wearing it to work, a woman told me I smelled so good she wanted to buy it for her son. I've gotten more compliments like this and even more unique one's, but at the time this was the first one and was also the first time I wore this fragrance. If the scent and how it made me feel wasn't enough, that moment cemented my love for it. For me, Hibiscus Mahajád is more than worth its price. It’s elegant, nuanced, powerful, and truly unforgettable. A fragrance I will cherish and repurchase for life.

Hibiscus Mahajad is one of the most amazing floral perfumes in my collection. It was a love at first sniff at Harvey Nichols London, and having emptied the tester that the sales assistant very confidently paired me with in a couple of days, I all but ran to buy it. Even the price didn't deter me as this is one of those amazing creations worth every penny to me. The opening of Hibiscus Mahajad is like a two-faced god Janus of Ancient Rome, during the fall-winter it opens with leather, peppermint and cassis beautifully paired together and giving out green spiced/leather opening; in spring-summer - rose and hibiscus burst out, unwilling to wait on anyone else and take control from the start. Rose and hibiscus are a beautiful duo, and a most cleverly produced, as hibiscus in nature does not possess as explicit and powerful aroma as the rose, and so would have been easily "overpowered" by the latter. Here, both flowers are distinct and exquisitely arranged. Hibiscus appears to lead with its exotic and honeyed note and rose follows, adding depth with its sugar-sweet petals. Somehow, it is not the Damascus rose I see, but the May one, admittedly a particularly lush and in full bloom under the sun of the last days of spring. I suppose this is another facet of Mr Bisch' genius, - whereby he can make a super-expressive and dominant flower bend to his will and contain itself, becoming his perfect instrument in a melody he weaves through the perfume. Hibiscus Mahajad's projection and sillage are legendary, and you are guaranteed to be stopped by strangers over and over again asking what you are wearing, Please, do not get annoyed by this, you chose to put on a work of genius, so you too, must suffer for it a little bit. This scent lasts on my skin for full 12 hours, and even in the morning I can feel a few glistening magenta and pink petals on me. The clothes will carry the scent until you wash them, - nothing else will help. Final accords make the floral duo more powdery and less sugary sweet. The flowers remain with you until the very end, gently ebbing away, as the retreating tide of a gentle sea under the sunset. Anyone close to you will still catch a glimpse of Hibiscus Mahajad even when it technically became a skin scent. This perfume is not for the faint of heart or those who do not wish draw attention to themselves. I would not advise wearing it to the restaurants, unless they are al fresco and never a Japanese cuisine. Office or boardroom? - hmmm.... Only when required. I did it a few times when knowing that a few counterparts would need to be impressed upon/subdued one way or another. There Hibiscus Mahajad was my ally and "enforcer". Ultimately, it is a perfect scent for seduction, flirting, steamy dates and becoming unforgettable to those you met. It's all ages-appropriate, and does not confine its wearer to any "category". The only thing you have to be is a person willing to make a statement, confident in yourself and knowing well how to take pleasure whenever and however you wish.

The first time I smelt this fragrance, I was mind blown, and since that moment I had always wanted to get a bottle. Almost a year later, I introduced my dad to this fragrance, and he also fell in love with it. We both think it’s super wearable for guys (extremely unisex imo) but we also do enjoy floral scents (his signature scent is Gris Dior). We both picked up a 50ml, despite the hefty price tag. It starts off quite fresh and floral, I kind of pick up a juicy lychee note, although it’s not listed, similar to the opening of PDM Delina. As it dries down, it becomes a lot more sweeter, and after a good few hours, a beautiful high quality vanilla scent lingers. On clothes, I swear this vanilla scent will NOT leave. I wore this on a knitted t shirt two weeks ago, two sprays on the chest, and that vanilla is still pumping... and has also left yellow stains 😅 be aware of that on very light coloured clothes. I recommend sampling, and if you really do love it and have the money, get the 50ml, you only need 2-3 sprays per wear cos this shit is nuclear and lasts the whole day. No joke, I sprayed it twice on my neck, left it for 30min, walked into my living room, which is quite spacey, and my mum could smell it straight away. As you can tell, I’m obsessed with this fragrance. Definitely a favourite of mine. By the way, if you don’t want to pay the 200ish price for 50ml, the best dupe I have smelt SO FAR, is Jaipur by Noted Aromas. Although being a super solid inspiration, it doesn’t truly do the original justice. I haven’t smelt it, but I have heard better things about Paris Corner Ibisco Nirvana

Some fragrances are nice. Some are good. And then there’s this one. Hibiscus Mahajád is an extrait de parfum, and you feel that immediately. The oil concentration gives it that dense, almost velvety richness. Three sprays are more than enough; overspraying this would be a public announcement. From the first spray, you’re wrapped in a warm, sensual scent bubble. The hibiscus and rose create a slightly fruity, floral brightness, lifted by a subtle touch of cassis and peppermint that gives it a surprising sparkle. But very quickly, the fragrance melts into something deeper. The vanilla is creamy and addictive, blended with cinnamon and musk for warmth. The leather is present, but softer than in many other leather fragrances, smoother, more refined, less aggressive. It doesn’t shout. It glows. Performance is outstanding. On my skin, this lasts easily 12+ hours, and people around you will notice it. It projects confidently without feeling cheap or loud; it’s bold, but polished. It’s officially unisex, and I fully agree. I personally find that women compliment this one more than men do, but it wears beautifully on anyone who can handle a powerful, sensual scent. Price-wise, it’s expensive (€200 for 50ml, €350 for 100ml). But considering it’s an extrait and the quality is undeniable, I understand the positioning even if it still hurts the wallet. Season-wise, I’d wear this in spring or summer evenings, or on a confident night out. Maybe not for a subtle first date, this is more “main character energy” than “mysterious background presence.” Rating? 11/10
