Safran Secret

1. About the scent and composition: Opening: A fresh, ringing metal note (just like the bottle's cap) is generously drenched in bright, invigorating saffron. A divine start, in my opinion—I just want to keep inhaling it endlessly, and so does my wife! Heart and Drydown: It gradually becomes warmer, as if the metal has been heated, revealing a warm wooden board. The scent starts resembling the smell of ironing clothes with a hot iron. It’s as if clean, freshly ironed, hot linen has been sprayed with saffron and dry white wood. Right now, it’s 20 degrees Celsius during the day, and the sun feels quite hot—this fragrance fits perfectly because, despite its warmth, there’s something distinctly refreshing about it. In the evening, when it got cooler, I just wanted to bury my nose in it—it’s very cozy yet retains its masculine character. 2. Longevity and Sillage: At the start, the sillage is incredibly beautiful and powerful. Later, it softens but still reaches those nearby for the next 5 hours. Around 6 hours after application, it sits fairly close to the skin, yet it continues to create a light aromatic aura. During hugs, it will still be noticeable even after 6 hours. Fragrances usually have reduced longevity on my skin, so the actual numbers might be even higher for others. 3. Gender Classification: In my opinion, it’s a true unisex fragrance. However, on me (as a man), it leans more masculine due to a certain metallic note and a hint of slightly charred metal in the base. 4. Seasonality: To me, it feels lighter and more refreshing in the base compared to Cristal Shafran, which seemed heavier and somewhat suffocating in the drydown. For cold weather, it will be super cozy and pleasant, though not as warming as rich leather or amber scents. Still, it has a fresh quality and isn’t heavy at all—so in my opinion, it’s definitely suitable for summer as well. Especially in the opening—it’s absolutely top-tier. Overall, it’s a truly versatile fragrance—great for both summer and winter. Perfect for daytime when you want something fresh yet unique, clean, and interesting, and just as fitting for an evening date. Final Thoughts: In my opinion, this fragrance is absolutely magnificent and truly unique. I feel like it might be the best scent in my collection, and I consider myself quite experienced. The opening is just mind-blowing—completely mesmerizing. The drydown is still wonderful, though not as bold and intense as the start, which is what completely captivates me. The price per milliliter is a bit high, and given that it’s a perfume concentrate, I wish the base had more intensity and power. But perhaps that would make it too loud and overwhelming. But considering the quality of the fragrance itself and its uniqueness, the price is actually reasonable. P.S. I forgot to mention a slight suede note in the base as well.

I just got this today and immediately put it on, it's dusty, very aromatic, and almost electric. You get hit with these medicinal, clove-like spices along with some type of piney herb in the immediate opening...maybe eucalyptus? Or am I smelling cedar or cypress? Who knows for sure, but it smells fantastic regardless. The spices are warm, but not in that Pumpkin Spice Latte cozy way - in a moody and brooding way. The smell is alluring because you want to keep smelling it to try and uncover what's going on. Upon dry down, the saffron really shines and absolutely contributes to the dark aromatic character of this, it's almost leathery and raw. The woods are smooth, dry, and slightly sweet. It reminds me of the morning hikes I would take in the Colorado wilderness at this stage. BUT this is very, very similar to Mystery from Emerites Pride, like 90-95% similar. Like, they are fraternal twins. Safran Secret is the "strong twin" as it's an extrait. I completely forgot I owned Mystery until I looked through the "Smells Like" section - I bought it on a trip a few years ago and wore it maybe once or twice. Anyway, I found my bottle, sprayed the top of my left hand, then sprayed Safran Secret on my right hand, and yeah, these are basically the same - even the names are similar "Mystery" and "Secret". 🤔 Mystery is less complex and less dense. The blend of spices and maybe herbs/botanicals in Safran Secret give it more character and depth, plus the saffron is slightly more pungent and higher quality. To my nose, Safran Secret feels like the extrait version of Mystery, so if you want this scent profile, and aren't a stickler for having "the best", get a 100ml bottle of Mystery for around $200. It's essentially the same, just less punchy - but trust, as a middle eastern perfume, Mystery ain't no performance slouch. Overall I love Safran Secret. It's so good, mysterious, and slightly dark. I give it a 9.4/10, and Mystery is a 9.2/10. But would I have purchased it if I remembered I had Mystery? Nope, I would have gotten Oud Cadenza instead. Womp, womp indeed. 🥀

I love this scent. What I find most interesting is that it smells just like a hot wood sauna without the heat. You know the kind,... that has been on for months with water steaming off of stones condensing on the ceiling and walls collecting in ever larger steam droplets on the wood until it is dripping from ceilings down the wall slowly where it hits the hot and steamy benches, where it evaporates and is almost too hot to inhale. It kind of singes the skin around your nostrils a bit. You set your towel down on the wooden bench so you can actually sit, because it is waaay to hot to actually let your skin touch any surface in there. And you quietly entertain anxious thoughts of it is so hot in there that I hope that the door doesn't swell shut so that I don't have the strength to open it. You count to 200, 250, 300 and then you stand up, yank on the open the door, grab your towel & gently sigh in relief exiting the sauna breathing normal room temperature air that feels as refreshing as if you had stepped out into a November evening in Philadelphia that borders on chill. You are grateful, sweaty, refreshed and getting cold...you turn around pondering whether or not you want to go sit in there for another minute...You own the door & that lovely toasted steamy wood scent comes wafting out at you as you go in for a minute more, sitting just next to the door drinking in the air deeply as it almost scalds your lungs and stings your nostrils a bit... It is a sort of hot toasted cedar kind of woody smell that screams sauna. It is nice to have dangling in the air catching whiffs as you go thru your day. Reminds me of how refreshed I feel after a good bake in the sauna.

Hello good people of Fragrantica, Safran Secret starts off spicy, but not in a sharp, nose tingling way. It’s more like when you walk into a room and someone just crushed warm spices in the air, rich, smooth, and instantly attention grabbing. The opening has that bold saffron kick, but it feels refined, not aggressive. I only had a decant at first and let a friend borrow it for a few days. Big mistake. He wouldn’t stop talking about it. We ended up going out and buying him a full bottle because he was completely hooked. That’s the kind of effect this one has. The dry down is where it really shines. It reminds me of warm wood and expensive fabric like stepping into a high end boutique where everything smells polished and luxurious. It leaves a thick scent trail, and the performance is honestly beast mode (around 13+ hours longevity with 5+ hours projection and sillage), just like a lot of other Maison Crivelli fragrances (i.e. Our Maracuja, Oud Stallion, Oud Cadenza, Hibiscus Mahajad). You spray it and it stays. People will notice. To me, it leans more mature. I’d say 35+ fits the vibe. It’s confident, put together, not playful or sugary. And if you’re looking for something sweet in the opening or dry down, this isn’t that. This is smooth, spicy, warm sophistication all the way through. It is 10/10 for me and in my "to buy" list.

Compared to Oud Maracuja, Safran Secret is more discreet and easier for those around you to enjoy, yet it still leaves a memorable impression. I’ve received many compliments while wearing it. It also blends beautifully with other, more subtle fragrances, particularly those with citrus or vanilla, making it more versatile than Oud Maracuja. Overall, I’d rate it 9/10. The only drawback is that it can feel a bit heavy in hot weather, so I recommend pairing it with a lighter, fresher fragrance to balance things out.

The first fragrance I've ever tried from the house of Maison Crivelli, and man - what a banger to start my journey with this fragrance house. It's unlike anything I've smelled before - I can't really say I see any resemblance to BR540, I do feel it's like ironed out shirt mixed with a heaping helping of very fine saffron, something about it feels metallic yet very humane, almost cyborg-like. The longevity is absolutely monstrous, it actually lasted over 16 hours on my skin - granted at this point it really was a skin scent, but for the first 6-8 hours it projected like a sun amidst black holes. It is also extremely unisex, sophisticated and actually smells expensive like its price would suggest. I could also see this being used throughout the year, with the minor exception of the very hottest of days of summer. If you're even the slightest bit intrigued by this fragrance as I was - do not pass on the opportunity to try it out!

First wearing impression on skin:The opening reminds me of a familiar ingredient perhaps oud arpur or something similar along with saffron before it morphs about half hour later. The end result reminds me of a steaming hot iron on a dress shirt with starch added. I love this smell. I'm going to get down voted for saying this but hear me out. I wear and love Serge Lutens Gris Clair and this shares some similarities. That freshly snuffed out waxy candle vibe in the SL GC is here, but this also has saffron. It also carries the same waxy wood used in Pearfat Multiball, which is awesome. I went into this fragrance expecting to like it and that's exactly what I found. I was told this is the same juice as the boutique exclusive 07-2012 which I've wanted to try for months but couldn't find a decant. Great fragrance. Not gonna lie, I was scared to try this one since the hype was so huge about Oud Maracuja and the other previous creations, yet I didn't quite get swept off my feet by those. But...this....this one is something else, by far the best Maison Crivelli scent. Strong metallic opening, which turns into something more warm with time passing by, like iron has been heated but in a pleasant way. It is giving off cozy wool jumper vibes mixed with metallic hints as well. All in all, if you like scents with this kind of vibe, definitely give it a go. First I tested it on top of my hand, washed it multiple times and it is still staying on my hand intensly (after six hours). I have to admit that I keep lifting my hand to my nose to sniff it again and again, there is something alluring about it. Very great scent, wish it was less synthetic tho, but oh well. I would definitely buy it again.

I’ve been feeling a bit stuck and unimpressed with fragrances lately, but everything changed when I visited my local perfume shop. The sales associate asked if I had tried Safran Secret. Honestly, I didn’t have high expectations, but oh, was I wrong. This scent literally altered something in my brain in a way only two other fragrances ever have. The moment I smelled it, I was transported to my favorite places in Paris, dressed in my best outfits, listening to my favorite music. It brought me so much joy that I had to order it as soon as I got home. I’m sniffing the paper strip while writing this review, and I’m seriously considering heading back to the store just to thank the sales associate for introducing me to this incredible fragrance. Safran Secret isn’t just a perfume, it’s an experience.

All day I was asked what I was wearing, the first time I sprayed this on. I sprayed on my clothes and neck - the scent stayed on until I was already used to it and couldn’t smell it on myself. Safran Secret is AWESOME. This is my very first Maison Crivelli fragrance and I am excited to smell the rest of the extraits. Safran Secret is a bomb in a small bottle. I know the saffron may have been formulated from synthetic ingredients BUT saffron doesn’t really have that of an intense aroma. There is woody note to it but it’s very subtle. If you like a woody-spicy Baccarat 540, you will enjoy this. It’s not another Baccarat-leaning scent but the saffron makes it distantly similar. Slightly mature , maybe 30+++ A nice unisex scent. All-weather. Pleasant. Pleasing. A bit pricey but worth it.

@Elindio Talk to you differently? Sorry, next time I’ll be nicer when you’re not speaking lies. People look at these reviews for real reviews and answers. This is NOT a skin scent. I don’t care what skin chemistry you have or batch code (also way too early in its release to have any batch variations) you’re testing from. This projects off the skin for hours on end. Maybe you tested one too many perfumes that day and your nose was overwhelmed. And yes, I own this and have worn it many times. AND I have a sample of it as well that I got before I purchased this bottle. No difference. Don’t listen to this clown. It’s ridiculously strong and the performance is incredible if that is what you’re looking for.

So far, I haven’t been a big fan of Crivelli or other overly synthetic bombs. I really didn’t want to like this, but it smells so damn good on paper. I’ve avoided wearing it for months. Woke up to cool 50s and rain and said today’s the day. This is a confidence booster. Sweet spicy saffron wood. It’s transportive. Takes me away and makes me feel great while I’m there which is more than 12 solid hours. It dresses me up on the inside no matter what I wear. Even leaves a delicious trail through the morning coffee shop. It does have a noticeable metallic (hot iron) profile, but its subtlety seems to depend on the weather. At 50 degrees F with 50% humidity, the metal is pronounced. Overall, it’s a keeper.

There is no start, beginning or inception, there is an onset! Metallic old Volvo bonnet dusted with rare warm spices that hits you from nowhere and yeah you are glad that it did. Thats no soap, no generic cologne but it is intoxicating full fledged wave of soldered tin with pieces of bakelite and dust you evaporated to the air while repairing 90s machine between pine needles in forest among ferns in winter Scandinavia. You are here with Richard Dean Anderson (MacGyver) and Arnold Schwarzenegger...(ladies can change those two with appropriate female substitutes). Its a feeling, you cant describe it with mere words, you have to try it...

I have tried this and it was definitely a love at first sniff. I have tried hundreds of fragrances and this almost never happens. I normally need couple of wears to convince myself I need a full bottle. Not here 😅. The only reason I didn't get one immediately was because I couldn't find it at a good price. This is for everyone that loves woody fragrances. Note that it is also very spicy in the opening, but not harsh spicy at all. Very warm, a bit metallic from the saffron, and then drying down into gorgeous woods. If you are wondering whether to get it, do it! You won't regret it!

I smelled this a niche perfumery in Orlando Florida. I had smelled soooo many fragrances in the store. However, when I came across Safran Secret there was something that captivated my nose. I had it sprayed on a tester strip and I kept going back to it. I knew I wanted it and ended purchasing a full bottle. This is a very masculine scent. This is also very very strong. 2 sprays is enough. I’ve sprayed multiple times with this one and it was overwhelming for many people around me. You could wear this at work if you go easy on the sprays. You can also wear this at night

Saffron Secret turns out to be honest in the most cynical way possible. The secret is that there’s no saffron at all. What you get instead is a pine-green, juniper-clean opening, followed by warm spice and an almond-leather trick that convincingly suggests saffron without ever using it. It dries down to smooth cedar, patchouli, and soft resin, diffused just enough to feel expensive. It smells polished and intentional. The confidence comes from knowing you won’t notice what’s missing — unless someone tells you. That being said it’s still an amazing fragrance 9.3/10

It will be always associated with Ingredients for me, however Safran Secret is a catchy name. Strong, spicy and dark nuances of the fragrance evokes mystery indeed. There is a hint of saffron, but camphor-like aroma is more significant. In combination with aniseed it is more sweet and warm, touched by fresh woodiness. This perfume is daring, but not too bold: it has perfect balance. It is more masculine scent, but it is so good, I'll wear it anyway. This masterpiece is my No.1 when special occasion cames. And during winter solstice it is very intuitive...

It’s a sharp, spicy and modern leather. It is linear and projects okay and has decent longevity, but for an extrait de parfum one would expect such things. Actually, a composition like this could project a bit more, it’s not a smooth sophisticated complex thing, more a statement perfume, so I feel it should have a bulky sillage. It reminds me of a brand new luxury leather product with lots of hardware on it, clean, grained, supple, but also sharp, and metallic. I got a bottle as a gift and I grab for it when I’m about to hit town in the evenings.
