Beltane

This fragrance is a warm, ambery smoked leather vanilla. The vanilla is round, buttery, and not too sweet. It reminds me a lot of the vanilla from B&BW Warm Vanilla Sugar but better. The smoke reminds me of the morning after a campfire, when there are some big chunks of wood left charred in the fire pit, but you can also sometimes catch the scent of some guy’s leather jacket. It starts out a bit medicinal and a little garbagey. So, you’re not so sure about it. But once it settles, it turns into something beautiful, and you can’t stop sniffing your wrists because it keeps morphing, sometimes revealing hints of wood or woody resins, wisps of incense, or different facets of vanilla. The interesting thing is that this is named after an ancient Celtic fire festival midway between Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice. Although, I’m not sure that’s the best time to wear it, as it seems like more of a cool weather fragrance to me. I feel like people are going to compare this one to By the Fireplace, but it's its own thing and probably not as mass appealing. But it's certainly going to have its fans.

Then comes the saffron—elegant, golden, and perfectly placed—giving everything a luxurious edge. It’s like a sacred bonfire dusted with burnt sugar and spice. The base is where Beltane truly smolders: smooth sandalwood, warm bourbon, soft leather, and a resinous trace of benzoin. And yes—church is a real note here, and it grounds the scent with a sense of dark reverence. It’s deep, complex, and totally unforgettable. This is cool, edgy, and absolutely perfect for fall and winter. Unisex to the core, and a must-have for lovers of smoky, resinous, leather-wrapped fragrances.

Beltane commands your attention the way a bonfire does. You smell it before you see it, and once your close enough you've been bathed by it. The caramel and incense arrive together, warm and inviting, sweet and sacred in equal measure. As it dries down the sweetness doesn't leave, it transforms. The caramel retreats into the background, becoming something more resinous; the molecularly distilled olibanum from North Africa and Yemen is doing serious work here. Twelve hours later Beltane is still present on skin. That's not longevity, that's commitment. Maison des Animaux sits at an interesting intersection of indie perfume oil and formal niche perfumery. It speaks to beginners and longtime lovers alike.

There’s something about this one — It’s a love for me, but in a special way that I don’t think will be mass-appealing. This is deep and smokyyyy (think liquid smoke in mesquite flavor), with puffs of sweetness here, and there. The leather in this is soft and smooth, like suede. I’m so comforted by this fragrance. Ughhh I’m in love with this fragrance. BUB worthy!!!

Strong projection. Holy Incense and incredible clean leather and vanilla smoke. Very reminiscent of a Catholic mass 🕯️ with amazing longevity and good vanillin drydown.
