L'eau À la Rose

This was one of the four MFK samples that got me into this hobby (which btw for anyone overpaying for mfk samples on Mercari, you can get a set of 4 samples for $30 free & fast shipping direct from mfk website. They come packaged so beautifully and the price of the set can be used towards a full size purchase. Cannot recommend it enough) Anyways, this is also the fragrance that made me reconsider my distaste for rose. I had been disappointed by so many dusty musty rose water scents in my search for an authentic representation of real life roses that i gave this one whiff and blew it off as just another. For months, it sat in the back of my fragrance drawer while I continued my search. Then one day I decided to give her another chance and spritzed her onto my wrist. As i went about my day I kept getting hints of rose floating in the air, the scent was so reminiscent of real roses in fact that I actually looked around to see where they were. Months spent searching for the perfect rose and there it was all along. Test on skin and let it fully develop before dismissing this beauty because she deserves a chance and I now want a full bottle.

This sort of lightly aquatic, pink rose & litchi theme is popular for good reason. Paris-Paris, Rose Kashan, Rose Pompon, Delina and all her children. I tried about a dozen of them before buying my bottle of L'eau a la Rose. L'eau a la Rose strikes me as being an almost hyper-hygiene scent. It reminds me strongly of the smell of various shampoos from yesteryear: Herbal Essences, L'Oreal Kids in the fish shaped bottles, Garnier Fructis. L'eau a la Rose also smells to me of wet hair itself - the musky smell of the top of your head, the smell of water, of sun, chlorine. Pear. Ambrette. Lemon. Strawberries. Melon. Laundry detergent. Rose, yes, but if you told me it was a cherry blossom or a hibiscus I would have believed that too. It's more unusual than it first appears, and despite the pink bottle, the lack of any real sweetness makes this plausibly wearable for a man. At least, I'd like to think so - I've been wearing this all spring and summer and feeling dewy, fresh, and clean.

Wow. I’m not a huge rose fan, but this is very pretty. So light and subtle. Kind of like a rose garden after a rainstorm, dashed with a hint of bright peony and juicy pear. The lychee is EXTREMELY light here, which I appreciate as I can find lychee to be a very cloying note. Honestly, the rose/lychee combo is NOT one that I am a fan of. I think those combinations are sickly sweet and very overpowering (looking at you, Angel Nova) but this is so light and springy that it doesn’t have that effect at all. This fragrance is EXTREMELY short lived, so be prepared to reapply fairly often. I think the musk at the bottom of this is perfect as well, it gives a clean, yet comforting base. The rose/musk dry down reminds me of Dior’s Rose ‘n Roses which is one of my favorite rose perfumes. I was expecting to like this one the least out of all my samples and I’m pleasantly surprised that that isn’t the case! Very gorgeous rose fragrance.

L’eau A la rose a is fresh, sparkly, dewy, clean wet rose without the stem or leaves. It has a shampooey/soapy vibe to it. It’s pretty linear and it doesn’t have that strong of a musk scent in comparison to other rose fragrances. I prefer this over “A la rose” because it’s not as heavy on the musk and it’s a lighter scent...think of freshly rained on wet rose on a cool morning. The rose in “A la rose” is as if it’s been a hot summer day and the scent off the rose is radiating and you can smell it from two feet away. If you love clean, fresh and minimal fragrances you will love this. Lasting power is about 2-3 hours and you will have a light scent bubble around you. This is my favourite rose fragrance and my runner up is Blouse however I do notice that if I wear this for two days in a row it gets boring and I don’t feel like wearing it for another week or so.

Sometimes you need a soft yet refreshing rose -this is it. When you just wanna be there but not to be loud. It is a discret and beautifule rose, I got my full bottle today blind bought and a LOVE it! I needed This -I have Delina too but I find it sometimes loud. This will be my solid scent- tomorrow I will try it for the GYM for example. But it would be nice to office or to go to Doctor, to a child party, etc. I’m happy that I have it! Longevity is on me 6 hours, sillage is good. NICE and refreshing youth rose! EDIT: I’m at the Sea Side, there is 32 degrees and this parfume is excellent and beautifule- it’strong and blooming exremely good! I feel like a Queen with it!🥰🥰🥰

This is one of the most beautiful rose scents I’ve put my nose on. I blind bought it but it was everything I was hoping it would be. Light, clean, fresh rose but I certainly smell the peony in there too. It may not project heaps, but the longevity was pretty good on me. I like to put fragrances like this on my chest as it help warm them and keeps me smelling it all day, I’d also recommend applying to clothing and or hair for that added longevity. I’ve been wearing it for over 12 hours now and can still smell it on my chest/shirt. That being said, everyone is different and it might not do as well for everyone!

So beautiful. Light, fresh, young rose scent. It feels very uncomplicated and straightforward; I have a feeling that just means a lot of work went into it, but one doesn’t perceive that effort. Rather it feels effortless. Like a fragrance that was just waiting to be found. Sits very close to skin but does last at least 8 hours and while it does there is literally nothing prettier. My wallet is already crying because I will have to buy this. I already have Young Rose but this is different- simpler and yet more of an archetype.

L'eau À la Rose is fascinating. This may sound strange, it so light it's as if I can't smell anything, yet at the same time it gives an aura of delightful freshness and lightness. For someone like me who prefers to feel a perfume's presence in a heavier way, the fact that I love this gorgeous lightness is a true compliment to Francis Kurkdjian and this perfume. Once in a while if I think about it, I can smell the dainty pink rose, and it's gorgeous. L'eau À la Rose makes me feel feminine, beautiful and carefree.

Fresh roses and peonies! Despite the notes being so common, L'eau A la Rose is different from other rose fragrances I've tried. The combination of notes is very pleasant here. Also, it smells expensive, if that makes sense. The second I sprayed my sample I thought "wow it's clean but it also smells like money." I just wish it lasted longer, because as time passes the greenness and tartness of the opening fades down and it becomes less interesting. more soapy and kind of reminds me of Peony Picnic by Clinique

I’m very picky about perfumes and I don’t like strong artificial scents but I fell in love with this. It’s really pretty, realistic rose and delightful fruit scent. My imagination is like a beautiful girl with peach color cheeks smiling in the spring garden. The scent makes me positive and happy feelings. On my skin it lasts ok. The scent changes from the beginning and the middle and last notes and it’s very beautiful throughout.

Absolutely magnificent. This is a very realistic rose/ second-skin scent that uplifts my mood like no other. It is fresh, juicy and romantic. I love the lychee and pear notes it features as they add more depth to it. Its projection and silage are very good- they could be better for sure but I am not complaining. Lately it has been my go-to for days when I need a little extra boost or motivation.

A realistic rose with slightly sweet fruits. Surprisingly long-lasting. It's not a super complicated scent but very much to my liking and I will probably get at least a 30 ml bottle of it. If you like a bright, aquatic rose scent, this is for you. I love the fact that it does not include either vanilla or pink pepper, my least favourite notes, which are too often paired with roses.

This is a delightfully soft, light, and delicate rose scent, feminine and sophisticated. I appreciate that it is not powdery since powdered rose perfumes can appear more mature. It's a natural-smelling rose scent, as if one was in a rose garden, not too heavy on the nose. I reach for this one when I feel like wearing a light and inoffensive feminine floral fragrance.

I don’t like the sharp citrus note in the original ALR so this was love at first test. Sadly don’t think it’s worth the price tag though. Dissipates way too quickly, absolutely no longevity on this one :( Would love to find an exact dupe of this because it’s just the perfect fresh rose perfume to my nose.

This scent was love at first sniff for me! It’s like someone cut fresh roses and handed them to you immediately. Such a lovely scent that has a true rose smell. Nothing “old lady like” just a beautiful rose! You will not be disappointed if you get this beauty!

It smells soft, like roses and powder but I could barely smell it after about fifteen minutes! There's no way I would ever pay that much for a perfume with zero staying power. Longevity 1/10 Sillage 2/10 Projection 2/10

Okay this one is straight up soft girl energy 🌸✨ it’s light, kinda juicy with that fruity touch, like rose but make it aesthetic Lowkey the kind of scent that makes you feel put together even if your life isn’t 💅

Much nicer dry down than the EDP. It is a light rose, no longevity and no projection but I still love it. Perfect for a summers evening or a sunny day. It’s a love that is not logical or with reason. 🩷

LOVE! Rosewater and musk dominate, while the green facets read more fruity than sharp or vegetal. Unfortunately, it lasts like, 5 seconds :(

Smells good and realistic but absolutely no staying power,around 5 min and then it’s gone.

So far this smells just like Diptyque's Eau Rose EDT to me, a very light rose water scent

Gorgeous fresh-cut rose scent with not so gorgeous lasting power.

A beautiful straightforward soapy rose. Aptly named.

This is a girly more fruity and sweet and in a way also a bit tropical version of the original A la Rose from the same house. Not really the same at all and behaves also very differently on the skin. The original EdP ALR is much more subtle and with a focus on the delicate pink rose in the garden surrounded with a light powdery ness and a tiny bit of violet and cedar wood in the background kissed by a just a touch of citrus freshness. That one is a very intimate skin scent so intimate that you need to work to actually appreciate all it has to offer. This version despite being an eau de toilette and from its name more watered down, (l’eau means water) is more loud even though this too is a rather delicate scent, at least if what you normally think of when hearing Francis Kurkdjian is strong projection and even beast mode fragrances. L’eau A la Rose does not belong in that category but is still more present compared to the A la Rose EdP version. The stand out notes here is more of a sugary pink rose with a bit of beachness attached to it that moves the setting from a small rose garden to a more tropical setting. Probably due to the litchi and the pear. Those top notes are however not as poignant as the litchi is in for instance Delina, so even if they make the rose stray away a bit you can still find it and the tiny bit of violet behind it if you focus. The musk is less prominent here compared to the original and so is the powdery ness that I hardly can detect here as the fruity sweetness holds the center stage here. There is no detectable woodyness to anchor this either so this is to me a much more girly scent compared to the EdP version of A la Rose. I doubt a guy would like this at all as this reads very feminine girly to me. There is nothing cloying however about this rose scent if that is something one may be afraid of that reminds you of grandmothers rose oils or bubble baths from the 70’s. In fact it is so far from it that If it wasn’t for the name of it I would probably not blindly categorise this as a rose scent but rather a mild sweet fruity flower scent with a hint of shampoo-like soapy ness. But it still is a rose when you focus. Personally I find this to be almost a bit too girly for my middle age person but I do like to mix it with the original EdP for a bit higher level of sophistication and maturity and to get a bit more longevity from the original. This has more projection and longevity but is still an office appropriate skin scent, if you ask me. In comparison with other lighter rose scents in my collection Byredo Young Rose is the most similar but is a little bit more fruity citrusy and a little less sugared. Armani Prive Rose Milano is more mature and more powdery and not at all fruity. Miss Dior Blooming bouquet is equally young and girly but a lot more soapy and loud and a lot less sophisticated and Delina La Rose is a more sweet and litchi heavy. ❣️

I received a 5ml complimentary miniature of L'Eau A La Rose when I purchased another MFK fragrance from their official website. L'Eau is very similar to the original A La Rose, only a bit lighter and fruitier. Francis Kurkdjian brews excellent rose perfumes, and this one is totally representative of his style - seemingly minimalistic, yet beautiful, realistic and convincing. L'Eau is a rose fragrance aimed at those who are not die-hard fans of roses! Namely, this rose is very subtle and fresh, complemented with peony and violet. It is very pretty and inoffensive, hence it can be worn anywhere. Unlike most MFK fragrances, which tend to be very strong and long lasting (I'm looking at you, Oud Satin Mood), L'Eau is a subtle scent and doesn't last beyond 4-5 hours. I won't deny that fragrances similar to L'Eau A La Rose can be bought from other designer houses for much less; hence, this fragrance cannot be considered good value for money. This is a luxury product, aimed at wealthy consumers who prefer to keep a low profile, yet indulge themselves in expensive treats.

I've been sitting with this for a few days, and no matter how many times I wear it I can't look beyond the fact it smells exactly - EXACTLY! - like The Body Shop's Atlas Mountain Rose. L'eau is a bit softer (which is a positive thing, AMR would sometimes provoke a headache) but also doesn't last nearly as long. I get 2 hours out of it at best, and it's just plain unacceptable to ask £165 for this - for 30ml less mind you! - when I remember paying like £10 at the time for AMR (100ml), and even though it's discontinued you can still easily find bottles for £15-20... This is only worth it if you're feeling bougie. Girl, I get it! Sometimes it's about the ~experience~, no shame in that. But you can absolutely find this scent profile elsewhere and for a fraction of the cost.

I like L'eau A La Rose, but I prefer the original A La Rose. L'eau smells like it belongs in spring while A La Rose is perfect for summer with it's bright citrus. I'm not a big fan of litchi but it's used rather lightly here in L'eau. It's is a soft whisper of femininity. They're both airy, watery roses. The MAJOR difference is that L'eau is not citrusy. The original gets a bit creamy in the drydown but opens with lots of citrus. L'eau starts and stays soft without the bright citrus of the original and the litchi note in L'eau is not overpoweringly tart either. L'eau is hardly detectable compared to A La Rose. These are both lovely rose fragrances that I would love to wear anytime of year. That said they're a bit too sour for me rn. -

This perfume is real roses with a touch of peony. If you like roses... perfect for you! I do not smell litchi, etc. It is very different of Delina. It is a fresh rose scent, very feminine, romantic, fairy. To my opinion, it is too expensive. The sillage is not so good. For open space, it is perfect. 8/10, I will wear it during spring and summer In this brand, for fall and winter, I prefer Gentle Fluidity (9/10) = Oud Satin (9/10) > Baccarat Rouge 540 Ext (7/10) = Baccarat Rouge 540 (7/10) > Oud Silk (5/10) In this brand, for summer: I prefer L'eau à la rose (8/10) > Aqua Vitae forte (7/10) > Aqua Celestia forte (6/10) > A la rose (6/10) > Aqua Universalis forte (4/10)

The most realistic rose perfume I have ever smelled, with some other florals on the background, probably peony that makes it sweet? The sweetness come from fresh pink flowers, very light for MFK, subtle but lasts a long time. It is very suitable for those who have allergic with perfume. Very different with other rose perfumes from designer brand, this one smells very natural. If you want to spoil yourself with natural floral smelling, beautiful bottle, light and easy to wear but still unique, this is perfect. Very different with Delina which is a strong juicy fruity rose, this one doesn't have the fruit at all. Light, airy, beautiful.

This is in my top 3 rose scents (which I love). Watered down, lighter, sweeter version of À la Rose, which can be a good thing if you like subtle, summery scents or just want a more subtle rose scent which can be worn all year round on many occasions. I think it is too expensive, considering the longevity and the projection, despite being a pleasant light scent. I prefer it to the regular perfume version À la Rose, which is a bit more citrusy, stronger and not as pleasant in the dry down. For its price, it is way too fleeting though.

I love the original A La Rose and this smells almost identical, but I would say it is a sharper and fruitier scent on opening. Even though they claim to have upped the rose content in this new EDT, the sillage and longevity is even worse than the original, which, lets face it were pretty poor too. If you are trying to decide between the two I would go with the original A La Rose, not the L'eau. It baffles me they created an even lighter version of an already light scent. As the reviewer below suggests, why not an intense version?

This scent is pleasant, soft, and feminine. I would categorize it as a "crowd-pleaser" since I don't think anyone would get offended by wearing it or smelling it on someone else. Thus, I don't find it as unique nor special. Rose can be potent, dark, and sexy; however, it is a fresh, young, and rather shy rose in this rose note. I enjoy wearing it for daily non-special use. Unfortunately, I would not repurchase it. The price is way too high for this not so impressed smell.

This is a fragrance that stays intimately on the skin for 6+ hrs. The opening is a fresh, clean, and realistic rose smell. It is not overpowering, but the scent feels present at all times and I thoroughly enjoy it. I think what I like here is the transition from the floral notes to heavy musks. I think I'm detecting Ambrettolide, but I can't be sure... There is nothing earth-shattering in this fragrance, but I appreciate the quality that one can expect from MFK.

You can tell this is a high quality fragrance. Very realistic rose and peony sitting on the musk .Nothing artificial and chemical here like in many ,less expensive frags of similar notes. But all in all it is "only" rose and peony sitting on the musk and unless you are very much into those notes and you have bag of money...Anyway,long ago Stella McCartney had identical and short lived Stella Sheer 2008. ps :it lasts around 3 hours on the skin

I like this except for the pear note. It makes it too juicy and sweet for me. Pear is in KKW Crystal gardenia too and I get the same feeling with that. Pear smells cloying on my skin and takes over. It makes florals much less fresh and clean when I want them to be ): Still preferring philosophy ballet rose over this, roses de Chloe and philosophy nude rose (which is actually quite different and good). I might have to try Paul Smith rose...

Very airy and clean rose-based here, really enjoyable. It definitely is a feminine scent, but I think this would smell wonderful on a woman. It's incredibly clean and just radiates spring to me. I get a lot of rose and pear in the opening and they are blended to perfection. The musk in the base gives it some power and longevity, impressed here. I think I can officially say I enjoy rose as a note in perfumery after hating it for so long.

Roses that feel incredibly realistic, elegant, and natural. A perfect choice for everyday wear, especially for true rose lovers. It strikes a beautiful balance between green notes and rosesI don’t really get much of the fruity side on my skin. Fresh, clean, refined, and slightly powdery in the drydown. Longevity is rather weak, but it works well for someone who prefers a soft, subtle scent that never feels overwhelming.

L'eau A la Rose is very similar to A la Rose, but it lacks that something little extra, which makes A la Rose just so amazing. I think it might be, as @cocofluff wrote below, that extra citrusy freshness. L'eau A la Rose is at least on my skin, also a bit more powdery in the drydown. Still it is a lovely fresh, airy, youthful rose for sure, but I'll stick to the A la Rose which is just a dream.

I've checked the official website of Maison Francis Kurkdjian, but L'eau À la Rose has not been added there yet (and I've not received the newsletter that announces it either). Is this one of those 'exclusive' editions, only available in certain markets? I remember that the original À la Rose was initially only available in Japan, but nowadays it is sold worldwide.

Like a much, much more intense Thayer's rose petal witch hazel. However, it's very delicate on both clothing and skin no matter how much you spray. Also, indeed somewhat aquatic. Unlike other rose fragrances I've also tried, this one is best reserved for dressier occasions imo (though I still say wear whatever fragrance you want whenever you want).

Sometimes you don’t necessarily want a beast mode fragrance. Sometimes you want something soft, light, clean, like-able, fruity and rose. This is very much that. Longevity isn’t really there but it’s a nice soft, light fragrance. Very pretty and feminine. Not my favorite MFK but it’s nice.

A really like A La Rose (ALR), and this version is nice too but really very light and airy... boarding on almost being non existent. If ALR is too much for you, this may be a better bet, but for me, it isn't worth it (value, longevity, etc) despite being very pretty.

A delicate, watery, slightly soapy rose. It's very pretty. I'm not a huge fan of soapy fragrances, but if I was ever gifted a bottle of this I'd happily wear it because it's that nice.

A soapy, musky fresh dewy rose. Has that same MFK musky dna and for some reason in this composition, it's making me a little nauseous.Otherwise perfectly pleasant, albeit unmemorable.

i love the sweetness added by the litchi and green notes in the opening- almost like fresh apple- before settling into a standard, pleasant rosey-powdery drydown.

I went through a 2 ml sample. It's a delightful clean fresh rose, but Chloe de Rose is just as nice and more affordable. It's an EDT and lasts like an EDT.

This is the ultimate cologne-like rose fragrance. So pure, airy, refined, feminine and elegant! An instant classic.

DISCLAIMER: Negative Review. If this fragrance pulls on your emotional heartstrings, or you just love everything from this house and couldn't fathom that one might find something to criticize about MFK keep scrolling, what I'm going to say about your beloved is not very nice. I'm not gonna get thumbs up for this, but what were they thinking? MFK, count your days. I love quite a few from this house, BR540 is undeniably a classic, Gentle Fluidity Silver, Grand Soir, Oud Satin Mood, and I even stood by Aqua Universalis, which is really just upscale baby asprin but I still found it cheerful and refreshing enough to keep around. But my disdain started with the cologne forte line which could put the house of Jo Malone to shame in the contest of who can disappear the fastest. But this? They put rose-peony scented handsoap essential oil diluted with some perfumer's alcohol in a bottle and want to tell me this is worthy of $300? I'm sorry, I cannot in good faith recommend that anyone try this. As a rose fragrance convert (I went from not really liking the note to loving almost everything I try with it, 4 of the 5 fragrance on my next to buy list have rose as the dominant note), I can't even appreciate the rose smell in this. It's not like it's a natural, authentic rose smell. It smells like a powdery rose perfume, and not even a good one. And then the performance sucks to top it all off. Immediately becomes a skin scent that you have to root around your own dang arm to smell (and maybe that's a good thing since I wasn't crazy about the smell anyways) and then 3, maybe 4 hours later, it's gone without a trace. To quote a wise philosopher Macklemore in his prolific work "Thrift Shop", I call that getting tricked by a business. Francis Kurkdjian has let the hype get to his head and people are eating it up and kissing the ground he walked on 8 years ago. Now there are many more works of his I've been meaning to try and just haven't gotten around to (Amyris Femme, Oud Silk & Oud Cashmere Mood, APOM, some more of the Forte and Extrait line) but after this, I'm quite perturbed. Unless I can procure samples or test the fragrances on skin without spending another dime of my own money, I'm gonna pass.

Very pretty, light airy scent. I dont get much lychee (which is a disappointment because i love that note) but it's a simply pear-sweet light rose with peony facets. I also dont get much musk in the dry down, but it's an EDT with very light performance so that's not surprising. Very pretty, inoffensive perfect office scent but not worth the price tag in my opinion even though i got a great deal on a tester at a large, reputable discounter which is why i blind bought this. Not mad i have it, not something i would repurchase. I'd reco PDM Delina La Rosee or Rose + honey by michael malul as better performing scents in the same vein. The only way id reach for this over those is if it's a super hot, humid day.. which we rarely get where I live.

This fragrance offers a warm, realistic rose.. not fresh, but reminiscent of a bouquet kept at room temperature. It captures the true character of roses without exaggeration, almost like damp petals. While authentic, it remains quite simple, lacking the complexity or brightness that could have made it more dynamic. Personally I would have enjoyed it more if it carried a touch of freshness and less of the warm, damp quality.
