L'Homme À la Rose

What a gorgeous composition. Rose for men done brilliantly. Rose that even the most staunch rose hater can appreciate. The rose notes in this fragrance isn’t jammy or powdery but actually quite fresh and casual with mass appealing potential. Without a doubt it’s distinctively rose but far from typical. Tip toeing the line between mass appealing designer and artistic niche quality. Alot of folks make mention of the grapefruit note in this fragrance but I personally don’t get a distinctive grapefruit aroma but there is a brightness and fresh quality the composition has reminiscent of citrus notes. If anything I feel the sage is more of a major player next to the rose than grapefruit. The labdanum is present but ever so slightly giving the composition a masculine bend and serving as a supportive note to the overall composition. Amberwood is a curious note to me because WTH is it? Francis Kurkdjian compositions definitely has an undeniable quality to them that can be found in all his creations similar to but not exactly like Le Labo fragrances. A natural and smooth quality is the best way I can describe it. I can smell this quality in all his fresher and crisper creations like Gentle Fluidity Silver, Petit Matin, Aqua Universalis etc. His denser and more woody or darker fragrances has a sweet quality about them that’s undeniable in a dedicated MFK style. This consistency is what makes his fragrances top tier and garners him the respect as a master in his field. L’homme A La Rose is just another testament of this. Rosey but crisp and fresh, niche and unique with a mass appealing scent profile... an overall masterful composition that I can’t see anyone hating. Of note though, this fragrance smells amazing with excellent performance but it does have the potential to smell a little off if over sprayed. 2 to four sprays is what I’d recommend. I once sprayed this fragrance 6 times and it ended up smelling like linens that hasn’t been rinsed throughly and left in the dryer for way too long. Like burnt linens. Oddly specific, I know lol but as a single guy I know through experience 🫣 Less is definitely more with this one as with most MFK fragrances.

Give it a chance... Remove the controversy, step aside, and give it a chance. Based on other reviews, this is one that really changes based on individual skin. When I first smelled this one on paper, I was met with a scent that I would almost entirely overlook on any given day. Surprised by that (it being an MFK), I later decided to get a sample to try on my skin - oh boy.... this thing really opened up and became a beautiful clean, slightly sweet, floral scent on my skin. I know others have not necessarily had this experience, but I found myself out of my sample within the span of 3 days. I chose this fragrance over dozens of others. To me, that really says something. To all the niche fans that are saying it's generic or not "rosy" enough... There are other options! Think about this - this is probably the only rose fragrance for the men who would NEVER dare to sport a feminine rose. Maybe this fragrance is for them, allowing them to be adventurous and open to new ideas without taking the deep plunge. Food for thought. Is this a fragrance that everyone will go nuts over? No. Compliment king? Probably not... This more than likely will be a "just for you" fragrance. And guess what THAT IS OKAY! This fragrance says "I am self-assured, have my s**t together and am ready for the day." Already found a wonderfully discounted bottle and it has been ordered and on the way! TLDR: Try before you buy, give it an objective chance - it could be a real gem. Smells clean, fresh, lively, slightly sweet. Don't buy full price!

Smelled this today at Saks. It's a very crisp, citrusy, and green take on rose. One of the best warm weather fragrances MFK has ever released. Right off the first spray, it greets you with a duo of grapefruit and sage that linger through it's entire lifetime. The rose emerges from the base very slowly, and when it does, it brings the amberwood and just a little bit of warmth from the labdanum with it. I reiterate what I said about it being incredibly crisp and green. It's not jammy, powdery, or thick smelling at all. As it dries down, the grapefruit slowly gives up it's prominence but the fragrance retains a pleasant freshness even through the dry down. The labdanum plays a major role in the far dry down, the leathery nuance it lends to the fragrance is very elegant amd sensual. The grapefruit and labdanum hint at Roja Elysium PC for me. Best way that I can describe this fragrance to someone who can't smell it is imagine Elysium with a big dose of rose and without the woodiness. It's not a unique DNA, but it has the sentimental and personal touch that is felt in most MFK fragrances. It may not blow your mind, but it touches a part of your soul and puts a smile on your face. I love it and will most likely buy a bottle next Spring. Performance is surprisingly good. I applied one spray to my wrist and could still smell the sillage after 6 hours without the need to bring my wrist close to my nose. The overall longevity on my skin is at least 10 hours. Bravo Francis.

I mostly hate rose fragrances - too perfumed, too jammy, too rich, deep or loud. Even those I find beautiful are usually too strong and smell "old"/nostalgic - fragrant in a delightful way perhaps but not something I want to smell of for the evening let alone daytime. This seems to pull a great trick where the rose part shimmers across a very pleasant but essentially unremarkable green and wet base to a magical effect. After a few minutes dry down of brightness the rose doesn't shout at all but instead its freshness twinkles against the shaded lush greenery. It is as if you see only the sparkling of glitter on its petals as the rose turns in the shadow just out of the light - the flower itself slightly coy, its full beauty clinging close to the skin where it should be rather than halfway across the room. The 'pink' of it lasts on me too right to the slight soapy musky end - I see others didn't find this but the fixatives here work on my skin I guess. I was astonished by this, and while it shines in warmth it's still a lovely little personal bubble of summertime in the colder months as I write. Find myself concocting excuses to wear it. Probably the only rose scent I'll own past sample size. Rose haters who want something to push their envelope and recognise something in my words would do well to give it a go. small edit> repetition.

Right at the onset, it greets you with a burst of grapefruit, not a synthetic, acidic citrus, but a distinctly bright, invigorating fruit note. It’s refreshing and uplifting. Along with this I notice the green aspects of rose, with a stem-like freshness. It's like fresh roses sitting in a vase, with the leaves, stems and thorns on them. I can smell the petals of the rose and can almost feel the touch of the flower on it. They really nailed the fresh, green aspects of roses in a vase of water, just picked from a garden. This becomes more prominent, infusing a floral depth that’s both refined and captivating. The grapefruit lingers, although softer, intertwining elegantly with the green, thorny aspects of the rose. As the grapefruit gradually fades, the rose maintains its subtle, fresh charm, almost more of a rose water, blending flawlessly with the woody base of amberwood. It achieves this without ever becoming overly floral, thanks to the sage providing a herbaceous counterbalance. The result is a bright, floral, yet perfectly balanced dry down that endures on my skin for hours. It never becomes too overwhelming, but upholds a pleasing, inviting aura around me.

Purchased this for my boyfriend as a Christmas present. Lovely and elegant, less is more. I love sage notes and this fragrance hit the nail on the head. The addition of rose is exactly what men-oriented fragrances have been missing in the last decade. Picture a tall handsome French man, freshly showered and groomed, wearing a scarf and drinking herbal tea at a Parisian café. He leaves the café and a subtle fragrance lingers. Everyone wonders what it is that smells so clean, yet fascinating. The man is a romantic, he enjoys bubble baths with his lover, as well as fishing and sleeping in wood cabins on weekends. This is an exact description of my boyfriend and why I think this fragrance suits him perfectly. As we say in French, « un homme rose ». (P.S. I see some reviews saying this fragrance is too simple and platonic, which doesn't surprise me as those reviewers' signature scents are often oud, chypre, tobacco based fragrances. There is nothing surprising here if you enjoy stronger scented oriental fragrances. L'Homme à la rose is not that. Simply put again: less is more.)

Finally picked up a sample from a local Neiman Marcus rep after smelling it on a tester strip. This is good. Really good. In fact, I believe this will be my summer spring signature. When it first opened, the citrus smell almost made me sneeze. I did not expect this and for a second I thought. Oh here we go another citrus summer spring fragrance which I do not jive well with. But as it started to settle within the first 10 to 15 minutes, I started to really see what this fragrance was and is. The rose and the Amber are a beautiful couple dancing the Rumba. The grapefruit plays underneath it and that is fine with me because again I'm not a big fan of citrus. Then there's the slight hint of sage which gives it just enough green to visualize a whole flower. Now this sage does something for me personally and that is provide somewhat of a smoky hit. But I am certain that is because of my affiliation with burning sage. BIG EDIT. All the good things are gone in about an hour. Turns into just a wood smell after. It's a no from me.

I've learnt a lesson with this perfume. I went from loving it, to hating it, to loving it again, and I realised the thing I hated was what happens when it gets on clothes, namely that it becomes permanent and I can only smell the harsh fixative base. On skin, however, it's marvelous, as the same aroma-chemical reacts with my skin creating a warm, slightly green, woody aura that complements the thin rose up top. It's a shame that I have to be careful where to spray it, but I can live with that. Just don't judge it on a card strip, as it gives me the same horrible result as on clothes. One thing is for sure, this perfume doesn't smell remotely like anything found in nature, but if you're a fan of that sort of Serge Lutens floral esoterica, or you like perfumes by Julian Rasquinet based on hardcore amber fixatives, you'll probably love this. I'd advise against shoving your nose into your wrist to smell it. Try to experience it as others would, it's great.

This is the wet green stem of the rose and not the rose itself. Hints the picture of the all green rose on the side of the box. THIS IS AN AMAZING scent. Carries so well in the air and a compliment magnet. Love, love, love this fragrance. MFK is my favorite house and I own quite a bit of his fragrances and this is up there with the best. In my opinion, If you’re here on fragrantica, you truly have a love for fragrances on a different level than the average consumer. I say that because this fragrance has completely sold out twice at my local Atlanta Saks and once at my local Neiman Marcus, meaning it’s very mass appealing. So it baffles me that this got a 3.65 rating at the time of this review. Maybe I’m being bias because of the love I have for this house but I truly believe this is a great fragrance. Long lasting ☑️ Great silage ☑️ 10 out of 10

The opening is a blast of juicy grapefruit, then you step into the most immaculately cared for rose garden, on a beautiful sunny day with a slight breeze. Freshly watered. All you can smell is that musky, dewy, flowery rose, being carried across the lawn through the wind. Later, the amber pops through in the dry down, leaving you smelling fresh yet masculine, surrounding you in that aura that leaves you tugging on your shirt collar to get another whiff. That subtle, comforting warmth smell. Overall my perfect daily runner for the summer, cuts through the heat without the sharpness of Leau Dissey, but has just enough warmth that it's not relegated just to the hotter months. If you want a warm floral musk, take a stab at it. This is all coming from someone who dislikes most MFKs, looking at you Grand 'Sour' and Gentle Fluidity: 'Golden Shower'

MFK loves to describe their fragrances as stories and that's what piqued my interest in this scent when i didn't even have an interest in perfumes at all. As soon as i smelled it, it reminded me of my grandmother's flower garden. So full of roses, herbs, wild grasses, and fruit trees the air was fragrant. I got into this hobby because of this scent. I adore it. Like most MFK scents I wish it wasn't so heavy on citrus but it does add to it overall so it's not so one note like atomic rose which despite my fondness for it, punches you with a bouquet of flowers (mostly roses) if you spray it more than once. I guess the best way to explain this scent is a green citrusy scent with rose, rose is more of a component of it than the star but its unmistakably a rose scent the notes blend well but are still distinguishable.

Started with MFK male trail pack as a wanted my first niche fragrance. Wasn’t impressed with the favourites of MFK as I like unique scents also I did never like rose scents but the last one to try was l Homme a la rose and tried to convince myself I didn’t like it but I did... I loved it and brought myself a 70ml. Opens with citrus and fresh rose but not a typical Turkish rose smell we all imagine it to be a green rose stem / rose smell. The dry down the citrus settles down alot but keeps the scent clean with the rose still at the top note / mid note with the light wood base. Projection is very good and will stay on all day... clothes it will stay on for weeks and not disappear. Very unique and very classy clean scent. My signature scent and layered with blue moon by kilian for a twist is recommended.

Hands down the best fresh rose scent I’ve ever smelled. As a man, Rose can get difficult sometimes, and I wanted something that stood out from a regular rose/oud that I didn’t have to worry about smelling too feminine. This scent got me into what a Rose could truly smell like. This scent could convince you that there are such a thing as a male and/or female rose in nature, and that they smell accordingly. I have fallen in love with it, and it’s a personal must have as a fragrance lover. This scent remind me of what a rose smells like in the most well-taken care of garden, as soon as the morning sun hits the pedals of the rose and start to dry them, and at the exact moment the rose pedals becomes just slightly damp, it’s cut at the vine and placed under your nose. It’s pure heaven. 9.3/10 overall.

This to me smells wonderful. This is my second time smelling this fragrance. The first spray I was not impressed and thought it was just an aquatic rose fragrance and my fiance agreed. But now, I have a new opinion. The opening is very pleasant. This citrus pops out with the rose water note like fireworks. But the citrus note is short-lived and gone very quickly. The rose is very realistic, and I'm surprised there are no aquatic notes listed because this reminds me of rose water. I think of this as a freshly picked rose still holding it's morning dew. I love how this smells. I only tested this in the house, so I will have to test this out when the weather gets warm to see how different it will smell in the sun. I do recommend smelling if you are into rose notes, this is a good one.

Bright aromatic opening with a smooth soft natural high quality rose. The aromatics reminds me a bit of the Chanel Bleu EDP mid with hints of amber, aldehydes, and blue notes. But the rose is the focal point. Unique, versatile, high quality, and likable. Not my usual style, but on the cusp of a love and definitely more than a like. Probably not bottle worthy for me personally as it's not my style and I'm not a big rose fan, but if you are, definitely bottle worthy. Wearing on one arm with MFK Aqua Vitae on the other. L'Homme is more unique with an unexpected refreshing rose on a bed of aromatic masculinity vs the somewhat commonplace Vitae dna. I prefer the L'Homme for both it's uniqueness and the smooth rose. Scent: 8 / Sillage: 7 / Longevity: 7

I got a 7.5ml sample of this and I like it more than I thought I would. From the beginning you get citrus, (as all citrus notes must be put on top) blended fantastically with the clean herbal notes. So for me, this did great at avoiding my least favorite things: smelling too feminine, smelling too grassy, and smelling powdery all of which are incredible feats for a rose fragrance. This doesn't only smell like rose, the amberwood and sage provides a background that creates a feeling more like being in an area with roses surrounded by other plants as well. This is more of a flowery garden scent, and despite that they managed to make it smell unisex, arguably even masculine. I think I might love this.

Hello, I am looking to sell or trade my slightly used bottle of L'homme a la rose. I personally find this fragrance to be a great option for the springtime, it honestly is the most photorealistic fragrance of a fresh bouquet of flower- or perhaps rose stems. It smells like the real-world rose water smell, in a very green way. I would like to imagine that poisin ivy from DC would love this, it reminds me of her (except less dark maybe). I do still like this fragrance very much but I simply do not use it anymore, and I don't plan on going to any formal events soon. This is a nice masculine rose,at first its scitric rose then its an ambroxin bomb. I dont mind it because I love the scent from beginning to end. Its very long lasting carriying over to the next day. Thats the main reason why Ilike it so much. When you pay that kind of money for a fragrance, you expect it to last. This is very pleasant and not offensive,I get compliments all the time. Every time I put it on my wife tells that it was a good purchase. Never pay full price unless you absolutely cant get it cheaper. Waiting on lyric man to arrive so I can compare the two( also got it cheaper as well)

Clean, citrus and rose are words I would use to describe this juice. It’s simply beautiful . . . it gives you a peek into this planet of playful, lighthearted luxury that is to be respected yet not taken too seriously. That pinch of sage added to the bouquet of roses really sets it off, adding this slightly spicy herbaceous effect to an already bright, fresh rose. This is a homie who’s young and sexy, intelligently making his plays and taking the big city by storm day in and day out. Every young OG should have this in their collection without a doubt.

Contender for the greatest men's fragrance of all time for me. It's not feminine, its not overly rosey either, its beautiful and perfectly balanced. To me it smells like cool fresh air, very dewy in such a pleasant and clean way, with a fresh, not powdery rose backing it up. Freshest fragrance I've ever smelt, its like the feeling of drinking lemonade on a hot summer day, but for your nose. One of the few 10/10 ratings I've given out, the 4.02 rating is so sad this is a masterpiece, although nothing can justify these prices. Come on MFK, why? :(

I'm not a fan of rose perfumes and I'm not usually drawn to male fragrances, but this has become my all-occasion fragrance for spring: date night, ladies luncheon, business meeting, dinner with the in-laws, outdoor wedding...L'Homme a la Rose just fits beautifully. It's like a string of pearls that I might also wear; classy and beautiful and understated. It's a fresh rosebud with some greenery and a faint sweetness behind it - the DNA of Oud Satin Mood, maybe? - but a very light hand all the way around. Lovely.

A solid signature scent for a confident man. I guess that some people say this leans feminine only because rose is traditionally a feminine note, but if you are a man and like rose scent, you must try! It starts with grapefruit and rose, settling with a slightly sour rose and amber. That lightly sour rose note and warm amber base might turn you away, so try before buying, especially for the warmer days. Kurkdjian's quality and performance. It's a bit expensive for what it is, but the scent is pretty unique.

A very green, fresh, crisp, and safe rose perfume. Safe for any weather, though better suited for warmer weather. Safe for any setting as it smells pleasant and yet never overpowering, all while still allowing rose lovers to enjoy subtle rose notes throughout the wear. Safe as a blind reach for wherever you're going. What I'm trying to get at is... It is safe. It's not the most enchanting, but it gets the job done, and I love it for that reason. A very safe 8/10. Caveat being it's not safe for your wallet.

I tried this at Neiman Marcus one spray on a tester and one on my hand so I won't speak on performance, only scent. Scent = Wow. I'm not a big rose fan but this is done to perfection in my opinion. Perfectly balanced, light, airy, aldehydic and refreshing. Citrus/grapefruit bliss. I really like Labdanum and here it serves as the base of this fragrance. This would be perfect for daily use in the warm weather. I'll be testing this one out thoroughly in the spring. Scent 8/10.

Wow ! This is undoubtedly a top 3 men’s rose fragrance. Yes there’s rose here but it isn’t really front and center to me. It’s perfectly balanced rose, grapefruit and ambery woods. I was hesitant at first but definitely bottle worthy. My current favorite men’s roses are: 1. Zaharoff Signature Rosé 2. MFK L’Homme a La Rose 3. Cartier Declaration D’Un Soir Signature Rosé is magic in a bottle and will never be topped, but this has versatility and uniqueness.

Probably my favorite rose scent ive tried. tried many just looking for "the one" and they were all just too powdery or too grandma ish and i even tried stuff like lyric man which is a mens fragrance which was just too soapy powdery rose. lhomme a la rose is by far the best one ive tried, a fresh rose with earthy vibes going on. Smells as if im smelling fresh roses after a rain shower in the corner of my backyard. will definitely buy a bottle soon.

This is honestly my favorite fragrance of all time. It really captures the green aspects of the rose with the stems and thorns. Like a freshly plucked rose in a vase of water. There is this grapefruit in the background that really elevates this fragrance. Don’t forget a light touch of ambroxan (or something like it) to really elevate this fragrance for decent projection and Sillage. This is my signature out of my 25 bottle collection for sure.

As a man who can bench 315 raw at 6'4 i can say whole heartedly that anyone who doesn't think THIS smells like a rose is straight up LYING. Like lil bro go out and smell the roses you're crazy. This is a great blend of citrus and rose. There's really grown adults lying about this not having a rose smell. This is the greatest rose smell I've ever smelled in a scent that's aimed at men like me. Who are 6'4 and have 160 pounds of muscle on them

I love this scent. I’ve been on a rose bender lately, and I’ve been searching for a fresh rose scent. This fragrance is beautiful, lovely, green freshly clipped thorny rose. Starts off slightly citrus, the. Quickly goes into a crisp green rose backed up by some watery materials (calone?). The drydown is a clean clothes type musk. Great office wear, lots of compliments from ladies, the homies don’t seem to care much for this one though.

Beautiful floral signature for men. The longevity (on my skin) is surprisingly good, after 12 hours I can still smell it with moderate to strong projection. The aroma chemicals in this add a ton of lift and the smell itself is enough to brighten up the mood of those around you. While being distinctly floral, Kurkdjian did an excellent job at making the woodiness of the fragrance stand out, truly signifying a masculine scent.

Outstanding fragrance. The most favoured one of my collection. Starts off with a strong but not overpowering grape fruity scent. About 30 mins after is the best part of the scent. The rose projects elegantly and isn't overly feminine. The dry down is great too and works very well with the rose. I find floral scents decent usually but this has completely shifted my opinion. Price is the only negative thing about this. 9.5/10

Very clean and elegant fragrance. This one doesnt scream out rose as its name suggest, actually the rose here is quite subtle, but well combined with the stem (sort of green blend with neroli), grapefruit and some sage. Moderate performance (wish the sillage is better), and i think girls can definitely wear this one (although it names l'homme). Absolutely loving it and can easily be used as an everyday scent.

Fresh cut rose stems. I have a fair share of rose fragrances and it amazes me how different they are. This one is very green and fresh, it has a very clean quality to it and can easily be worn in stifling hot weather. Sillage on me is intimate, longevity is moderate, the scent is light and airy, green and fresh. It is not a perfumy scent, it leans very fresh and unisex.

This perfume is fabulous! Simple citrus rose perfect for spring and summer days. A wonderful scent that doesn't bother anyone. I particularly love perfumes like this because I'm not a big fan of very sweet perfumes. The only problem is it projects almost nothing and after an hour you can only smell it close to your skin but perfect blind buy!♥️♥️♥️

Unique take on a fresh green rose. Really nice scent, super comforting and relaxing, it's perfect for spring/summer. This is really clean as expected from MFK, it does have that signature clean laundry that's present almost in all of his creations. Not a strong projector but it does last on skin, i can smell it after 10 hours. I'm impressed.

The best way I can describe this fragrance is just beautiful. This transports you into a luxurious garden of roses 🌹 you get the freshness of the Grapefruit but as this transitions you get the combination of Centifolia and Damascena roses that gives you that a clean, rich as well as a fresh vibe like your smelling a bouquet of roses.

love this one! opens up with bright grapefruit and realistic green dewy rose. very fresh and aromatic scent with respectable performance and longevity. refreshing and alluring for those that like rose. very unisex and could lean femme for some. although not phenomenal, it is a beautifully constructed fragrance by MFK. amazing

Opening is a fantastic, photorealistic green rose with a very simple musk that makes for a great every day scent. Perfect for an office setting, it will definitely get you compliments. Dries down to a mostly green, musky scent that isn’t too in your face. Really enjoy this scent and is very underrated imo.

What a bold fragrance, i love it. The rose is strong, yet the fragrance is so fresh, it reminds me of the most beautiful summer day that only lives in your memories, a summer day you’ll never forget, warm, sunny, green, paradise. I could not stop sniffing my sample, and bought a bottle.

was honestly pleasantly surprised by this scent, the rose was done beautifully. if you like “jammy” rose scents, this is not going to be your thing. this is a dry, almost airy rose. i get a touch of spice at the top which really made this stand out for me. solid MFK offering.

Fresh, bright and powdery rose. One of the few roses that I will wear in an office setting. Perfect balance of the rose and a slight modern barbershop scent. Perfectly unisex balance of masc and femme. Is great alone, but layers perfectly with mens office/iris scents.

I think this one is really interesting rose, it's not like other rose perfume I tried and I had. There's a scent of lychee in which make it more interesting. The green rose like the advertisement is strange (in a good way). I used it all and wanna have another one.

Such a lovely clean rose fragrance. Great for any occasion really. Nice scent to wear on its own or layered with other fragrances since its not heavy or overbearing. Sits closer to the skin but lasts nonetheless. A unique rose that i adore. On my 2nd bottle!

I was surprised how much I was enchanted by this rose and sage crisp duet. It's supported with a light amber-woody base. Very versatile and quickly has become my no.1 rose scent for all the hats it wears. Professionally blended as you could expect from MFK.

This is my favourite MFK out of my collection. It's green, bright, floral and fresh. The rose is floral but it's not feminine, jammy or sweet and feels very photorealistic. Overall for me 10/10 and my favourite daily wear. Wish they sold it in 200ml.

I much prefer L’homme over the regular A La Rose, even though that one also is beautiful. L’homme is fresh and crisp with the citrus, but at the same time it has a warm amberiness which is mixing wonderfully with the green rose.

I’m going to keep this short and simple. Idk why this gets a bad rep. Every time I wear this, multiple women stop to tell me I smell amazing. And I have so many “top notch” fragrances yet this one always does the trick.
