Wicked Love

I had a sample of this a little while back, and I didn’t immediately love it. The scent of rose and (to my mind) fresh-cut jalapeño just wasn’t that interesting to me. In spite of that, however, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. It’s stuck with me for months. I just picked up a full bottle because I couldn’t get past this fragrance. Do not blind buy this-sample it first. This is as interesting a take on a rose fragrance as you’re likely to find anywhere, as it definitely does have an electricity to it. To me, it’s a very clear, somewhat linear two-note (big, synthetic rose, and a bite from jalapeño pepper) fragrance that I actually like more each time I put it on. UPDATE: I’ve spent more time with it, and not only is it a big, crackling synthetic rose with fresh green pepper, but after an hour or two, the cedar and jasmine come together to create a refreshing guaiac/palo santo aroma that adds a nice, comforting smell up close. Again, I like this more each time I put it on.

I do not understand these reviews. I purchased a sample of this after falling in love with By the Fireplace & Music Festival. I have been obsessed with it since the first spray. I spray it on my pillows & myself multiple times a day. I believe this is a scent for those who don't typically wear rose-heavy scents. I don't love rose myself, nor do I like overly sweet, fruity or almost all popular feminine scents. This is different but by no means would be a "gag gift" - feel free to send me your bottle if you find it so repulsive. I don't pick up on any pepper or jalapeno (!?) at all. I honestly think that for those who say they are repulsed by the scent, that it doesn't work with their body chemistry. Don't let the negative reviews dissuade you - just spend a few bucks on a sample first.

I agree with Danaalr's review, this is a unique but beautiful fragrance. The green pepper is strange yes, but everything blends together so well, and it takes this fragrance from being a standard green rose to something so much more interesting. So glad I got a hold of this even though it's discontinued, and for a good price even!! Longevity is insane, lasted the whole day. It's pretty linear, the green pepper and basil last throughout the dry down, which I love since that's the most exciting part. For a designer line, this is a truly niche fragrance for those who love an experience, and not just smelling good to get compliments.

I picked this little filly out of the dark obscurity that is Vinted. After a troublesome start (the seller had done a fucking shit job of protecting the bottle during transit, which required me to write a few steamy messages) I had a quick frig with it on my arm. It smells how I imagine that fanny candle by old Gwinny Paltrow smells. If I was a rich beast, I would be able to test this theory out. You get a slap of rose that attacks your skin as soon as this scent is sprayed. Then, it develops and goes a bit green and herbaceous. I think that Maison Martin Margiela have used geranium in this scent, to attempt to give the profile a "metal" backdrop, interspersed with floral notes and green notes. Perhaps they should have gone for rose oxide instead, as the attempt at metal is practically non-existent. It has some good points; the sillage and longevity are decent. However, after an hour or so I became convinced that the scent belongs in the world of the no-tails. I am going to keep it, to try and wear it in the warmer months. The green florals in it (which have been excellently constructed, I might add) will hopefully make it possible for me to wear it. If it still smells like it is more of a no-tail scent at that point, fuck knows what I'll do with it. Do you want it? 7/10. It's well put together, but there is hardly any metal in it at all., which means it loses 3 points. I don't like dirty liars.

At the opening the rose comes on strong. In the background there's something that's hard to put my finger on; a little metallic, kind of musky. Off in the distance are some spices and maybe another floral or two. I've experienced black pepper smelling metallic but green pepper? It doesn't exactly bring the vegetable to mind but there is a green aspect to Wicked Love and a peppery (the spice) vibe. An artificial green pepper? During the drydown the green comes out more and the rose settles. There's a synthetic feel to the whole composition. I'll give it to Maison Martin Margiela this is a unique smelling unisex scent. I'm not sure it exactly brings to mind "gun metal" but it does have a metallic aspect to it. Average performance for six hours. It's not really sexy and would probably be fine at work. I usually don't like pepper notes in my scents but maybe since it's supposed to be a green pepper it's not bothering me as much. Not a bad scent but doesn't do much for me. Performance is not bad but it's a little pricey for what you get. WL is interesting. Give it a sniff!

I have so far tried all of the Replica Fantasies collection, and this one fits into the catalog well. It's a very rose-forward scent, with a metallic/slightly peppery background (I would assume it's the green pepper note listed above). The rose isn't the typical refined Middle Eastern rose we have become accustomed to with recent scents, but more of a vintage, Crabtree and Evelyn Rose soap-type rose; the kind they used to use in their Turkish Delight candy. It's nice and rides a very fine line of gender neutrality, verging more on the side of a traditional female scent. Longevity and projection are both disappointing, as with the rest of the Fantasies collection. I gave my arm a couple good sprays over the course of several days, and got about two hours at most out of each wearing, with projection being about 6 inches to a foot for the first hour, and then deteriorating to a skin scent for the duration.

This is the ultimate soapy fragrance. I don’t pick up much of the green pepper note which I think is a good thing, it pretty much just smells like a rosy green soap from the opening to the base. People say that Mugler cologne or Prada L’homme are soapy, but I never really understood what a soapy fragrance was like until I tried this one, interestingly enough. I only have a sample, and this is my 3rd time wearing it, so maybe I will pick up something different later. Either way, it’s very pleasant, I’m not sure if I’d pick up a full bottle of it though. Longevity 4/10 Sillage 4.5/10 Smell 6.3/10

I tried this in store and I liked it, it was unusual and edgy. Then I tried it on my skin and oh my, my.... it settled on my skin to the most stunning edgy, modern rose with a slight metal hit. The jasmine and musk settle in to ground it beautifully. I actually took this on my honeymoon! Every time I wear it I get complements and people often stop me to ask me what fragrance I'm wearing. It does grow on you, so if you have it give it another try in spring/summer.

This reminds me of a Mexican Chile pepper shampoo for hair growth that I’ve used, that said I’m actually enjoying it. The bell pepper eventually fades leaving a nice soapy rose (maybe one of the chloes). And to be honest I don’t even mind the bell pepper, it does not smell like a pizzeria. I will wear this for spring/summer months. If you are interested definitely purchase a sample, this might not meet your expectations on a full bottle blind buy.

Very unusual and surprising - the vetiver kicks the bell pepper firmly into Jalapeño pepper territory, all the while softened by the very gentle Jasmine/musk vein that runs through it. It’s bizarre, interesting, and has this addictiveness to it that makes me wanna sniff it nonstop. In that way (Not from a scent point of view, just from a “so bizarre but so good” point of view) it reminds me of DKNY Women with its incredible tomato leaf note.

What a fascinating and unique scent! It reminds me so vividly of standing in my grandfather's garden among the flowers and peppers. It also reminds me of a delicious jalapeño wine from Warm Springs Vineyward in Georgia—it's the full experience, though! It's not just the wine, but rather standing among the flowers and grape plants in the vineyward while drinking a glass. This is just a beautiful and unusual scent!

Category: Rose, floral, soapy Notes: Sprays on quite soapy and green, I’m getting mostly water hyacinth with a touch of basil, although not peppery like fresh basil - merely aromatic. Within minutes a very distinct and realistic rose appears and begins dominating the scent. Vague touches of fresh and softly masculine cedar play in the background, green vetiver and musk ground the fragrance lending a lovely heft to the opulent rose. Vibe: Bathbomb. Rose garden. Early 2000s. Drawn bath with lit candles. Gardening. Body lotion. Sweet dreams. Auburn hair. American Beauty (1999). Sillage: 7/10. As always with Maison Margiela you’ve got a very decent sillage that is neither too strong nor too weak. Longevity: 5/10. Less impressive on the longevity front, as I've come to assume with Maison Margiela. This will last you a good few hours, but for the price point I expect better. As usual this does hold up significantly better on fabric than it does on skin. Wear: In my opinion this is very much a daytime scent. As far as seasons go I think it would be nicer during spring and summer, as it does become quite heavy in the cold. Overall rating: 6/10. This smells spot on like the bathbombs I used to buy in the early 2000s - I think this scent could best be described as a sort of soapy rose. It’s heady, earthy, almost a little seductive yet maintains an indescribable air of fraicheur. While the main accords claim this is green and aromatic, this is an unmistakable rose forward scent in my humble opinion. While it is aromatic, it comes secondary to the rose, and the aromatics lean perfume-y, the way some herbs can be very fragrant and a little soapy. I can’t say I’m getting the green bell pepper either - for those who feel terrified at its mention - this is a mostly floral fragrance. While I enjoy the scent, it is so totally not me, but on the right person I can see this being quite mesmerizing. If you’re a guy and you’re debating getting this fragrance I’d say don’t blind buy - it’s very feminine compared to the other Replica fragrances. Who would wear it?: Julia Roberts, present day.

Wicked Love is part of Replica's discontinued "Fantasies" line, whose names are much more far removed and esoteric than even the already dubiously fitting names from their flagship line. As far as I'm concerned, the names might as well be chosen by a random word generator. This is supposed to evoke the scent of gunmetal and roses, and like... kind of??? The use of herbs and vegetables to create a metallic accord is genuinely really unusual and intriguing, and the metallic accord in this fragrance is not remotely similar to, say, ELdO Sécrétions Magnifiques or one of the CDG Odeurs. That's because it literally does just smell like a heavy dose of raw green bell pepper and jalapeño (and a little bit of herbs like clary sage and basil too), so you have to take a little creative liberty to see it as a metallic scent. It's VERY heavy on the produce smell for several hours, until the dry down lulls into a rather gentle rose + jasmine, with the pepper becoming more of a supporting act to cut through the sweetness and femininity of these two notes. Before I actually read the notes in this, I found it incredibly bizarre and was ready to scrub it, and something in my head 'clicked' and made me reconsider when I realized that sharp, crunchy and herbal smell was in fact vegetables, and not some sort of outdoorsy men's aftershave smell gone wrong on my skin. And once I saw it in that context, I started to like it quite a bit, I can't help it. It's an acquired taste (no pun intended), and I don't think this is a safe blind buy even for green fragrance lovers. I don't think I really even want to wear it. But I will hold onto whatever's left of my little sample, because I've definitely smelled nothing like it before, and I can't stop smelling my wrist. Definitely worth a sample if you can get a hold of one easily and are okay with the consolation of just trying a strange little curiosity of (relatively) mass market, department store perfumery. Definitely a true unisex, in that it's too... bell pepper-y to even have connotations to a gender.

One of those frags you just have to judge at the end of the wear to properly assess its value. At first I got a fruity hairspray opening with cold green bell peppers & pink rose. Despite that juvenile feminine imagery there’s something alluring about this scent. If you grew up with an older sister you may know what nostalgia this brings lol but after the jooce dries and oils cling to your skin this will follow you dutifully for at least 10 hours under soft steps. I think this fragrance suits me and I wouldn’t mind being associated with this style of rose. P.s I normally go for grapefruit-cumin-rose or vinyl-metallic-oud-rose combos

The only two things I really smell in Wicked Love is a soapy rose and green bell pepper. And that's it. I don't dislike it or find it unpleasant at all actually, it's just... I don't know... strange..? It reminds me of a person that's been mowing wet grass or working in a silo all day while wearing a rosy perfume. This fragrance is exactly what that person would smell like by the end of the day. Or maybe if they washed their hands with a rose scented soap after coming inside. Basically a clean soapy rose mixed with "dirty" green notes. I wonder what Wicked Love would smell like in cold winter weather?

I'm having a very intense rose scent craving right now, which is how I came upon this one. It's very different. Green (vegetal), yet a bit floral too. The review below mine says the stems of the roses without the bloom. That's as good as I could ever sum it up. I don't think my nose likes bell pepper (my taste buds don't either) but I would like this if it had something ~ more, maybe a spice or incense? ~ to focus it. I do get the wicked love reference, at least I think so, as in Sleeping Beauty without the rose bloom on the vine growing around her. Wicked Maleficent.

I tried Wicked Love and like a reviewer below, without looking at the notes beforehand. I had no idea what I was wearing. The color of the Wicked Love is vivid green, there’s no doubt. I’m also picking up green powder. Beyond that abstract description, I’m without ideas. I don’t hate it but it is really odd, and I can’t imagine spraying it too close to my face. (I always test on my arm). And then I read “green bell pepper”. I love all peppers except for green bells, and like the reviewer below, that ruined any possibility of a second run.

Oh how I wanted to get guns and roses from this but upon first blast all I got was fresh green pepper and some dusty roses in the background. It’s an interesting fragrance and unlike anything in my collection. So it gets points for uniqueness but this is not what I desire to smell like.

Had this been called "Wicked Gardener" I would not have batted an eyelid. The wicked gardener in question has tossed some ingredients in a bowl and calls it a "summer salad". The salad consists of green bell peppers, grass, jalapeno, roses and soap. He then laughs as you find out, to your horror, that this is no ordinary summer salad. Wicked indeed. Wicked Love certainly is different, I have to give it that. I received a bag full of samples from MMM and out of all of them, this one was my least favorite. But being a fragrance enthusiast I of course gave it a chance. As soon as I sprayed it on, all my nose picked up was something green. Grass maybe, but at least very loudly green. I am currently trying to learn to recognize each individual note in perfumes and I try to guess the ingredients before I look them up. This one just confused me and I gave up and looked at the notes listed. Green bell pepper? Once I read that it made a lot of sense. It literally smells like a loud salad to me in the beginning, which lasts about 30 minutes on my skin. After that it calms down a little and I can smell roses and cedar, both are very soapy. The green note is there as well but not as loud. I truly dislike the opening, it's too green for my taste and then settles down to something I feel I've smelled many times before. A generic rose perfume. There is no jasmine whatsoever in there either. I don't hate the drydown but I also don't like it. But those who like their roses soapy, might very well like it. I would not associate green bell peppers and soapy roses with love, wicked or not. It does not smell sensual or sexy or enticing. But it does smell loudly green. If that's your thing, check it out. If not, run away.

Interesting and wonderful how 2 people can have such different perceptions of the same scent. The previous reviewer found Wicked Love to be rose-forward. I, on the other hand, can hardly sense the rose, and I'm dealing with a bomb of soapy green pepper. As I sit here typing this, I find myself hoping beyond hope that the poor longevity experienced by the previous reviewer will kick-in right now. I'm not familiar with water hyacinth, so I don't know if the unpleasant/metallic sharpness is coming from it or not. There's something very synthetic here. I'm not a stickler or a snob with regard to ingredients, but this is just over the top unpleasant, "chemically" and sharp. It's a cheap, sharp floral room spray on a soapy green pepper.

This is one of the most repulsive scents I have experienced, in perfumery and elsewhere. Given the description ("gun metal and roses"), I was expecting a daring rose with a sharp edge, but what I received was a nose-wrinkling blast of (what is listed here as) green pepper and little else. Like Andrina noted, it's got a very "chemical" odor; something acrid and unnatural. It's been two hours since I've given my arm a reckless series of spritzes (I really was expecting to love this), and, thank heavens, I can't detect anything anymore (although it's possible my sense of smell has been temporarily destroyed), so it's not even a beautiful scent with a challenging opening; the challenging opening is all there is to it.

Well--hmmm I don't like this fragrance on it's own. I do get that bell pepper smell, unfortunately. It has a very strong bell pepper smell to me but I did mix this with a DUA fragrance--Matrix (a copy of Xerjoff Nio)and I will say that it tones down the bell pepper smell a lot and makes Wicked Love a like, (not a love) but much better than a hate. I would say get a sample before you buy. If you have Wicked Love and the real Xerjoff Nio or DUA's Matrix try mixing it, though I don't know why you would mix a real Xerjoff with a MMM perfume.

This could have been something truly special if the gun metal note had even come close to being achieved. Even years after first smelling this when it was new, I'll never understand the green bell pepper opening. It's just horrendous, and as it dries down leans into that funk of "body odor" territory. Experimental perfumery is an art form, and I think when done well it can be truly groundbreaking... Then there's whatever the hell this is. Hard pass.

For a house that has so many winner, this is a big whiff. Don't take a big whiff as if may be unpleasant. The rose, and green pepper last, and are the most noticeable. More of a gag gift purchase than buying a bottle for enjoyment. Severely disappointed that they bothered putting this out. My wife bought me a bottle of By The Fireplace, which is my favorite from the replica line, and this is by far the bottom...

The worst. Hands down, the worst. Green pepper? Really? If this works for you, I am in awe, truly, and I see this has some fans. Call me old fashioned, but when my lover buries his face in my neck as the name "Wicked Love" would suggest, I don't want him thinking "You know, I could really go for fajitas!". Very hard pass!

This shouldn’t be called Wicked Love. It should be called I Cheated and Got Caught or Affair Gone Wrong. Was this inspired by Guns ‘n Roses? I appreciate the creativity but I find this unwearable in real life sort of like a Comme des Garcons gown.

there is alot better fragrances then this one! so unless you are just looking to get the whole collection I would pass on this one!! please buy a tester before you buy this!!!

I've tried to give this a chance at least 4-5 different times before writing a review, but despite several months, different seasons, and different energy levels, my opinion on this fragrance remains the same... I use the "hate" button here on Fragrantica *VERY* sparingly... so far, I've only encountered four scents that I could go my entire life without ever smelling again and be perfectly happy, and Wicked Love is number 2 on that short list. Martin Margiela is a house that has produced quite a few scents that I enjoy very, very much, especially the white-labeled Replica Line. I'm torn on my opinion as a whole of black/silver collection of "Replica--Reproduction of Familiar Fantasies". I own and love full bottles of both Soul of the Forest and Across Sands, liked Dancing on the Moon okay enough, disliked Flying, and straight up loathe Wicked Love. Many reviewers here say that once you get past the bracingly harsh pepper opening, there's a lovely soap/rose/hyacinth to be found. Trouble is, I can't get past the freshly-cut bell pepper opening, and then there's some freshly chopped jalapenos to boot! It is said that taste and smell often go hand in hand, but I do NOT want to smell like a very much edible fajita salad. So very glad that I did not blind buy a full bottle--since I could not find a travel spray, I settled for a package of 12 carded samples, and have since swapped away 10 of them. Two carded samples left to go, like some sort of evil Santa / Oprah...

Disgusting. Smells like Nectar by FlowerBomb but with a vomit-inducing pepper being the most prominent note. At least it didn't make my eyes sting. I tried scrubbing this one off and it wouldn't wash off immediately. I want to throw it away. Other reviews have the right of it, it smells like body odor because of the pepper. Dial dish soap combined with alcohol and peppers. Imagine lathering a bell pepper in high concentration dish soap, sprinkling on a fair amount of black pepper, and taking a nice big bite out of it. very off-putting. I hope this never comes back.

I hate this perfume! Gave it 3 fair tries and all I smell is bitter green pepper. Terrible smell! I would not recommend this perfume to anyone. 0/10

Wicked Love. Oh, yes, I had a sample of this from Sephora. I tried it without any idea what the notes were and loved it. I wore it four days in a row, which is unusual for me because I change scents every day. Loved it. Could not take my nose away from my arm, although the sillage was good for this brand. Replica scents have ZERO sillage and longevity on me, except for Wicked Love, which lasted and projected perfectly...it smelled green and fresh and so, so clean on me. Not wicked at all, just healthy, if that makes sense. I was close to buying a bottle despite being on a no buy policy and receiving no compliments, only a remark about someone having a salad.... Then I looked it up and read the notes. BELL PEPPER. And suddenly I realized that was exactly what I had been smelling. This sounds asinine, but it ruined it for me to know that. Suddenly my brain filled in the rest of the bell pepper connotations (it's a food I love to smell but that makes me queasy to eat) and it RUINED this for me. But I saved a lot of money.

I’m not sure if I got a different sample of wicked ❤️ maybe a new one that’s not unisex because I had to log in to tell everyone I do NOT get any PEPPERS at all lol I’m not understanding the green pepper lots of complaining about ...I get straight up spicy sweetness and before I even read the notes I knew it had gunpowder notes in it! To me it smells like cotton candy ( my fav note in a fragrance) with a gunpowder background:) it’s sexy deep spicy and sweet! Sweet enough to make me want to have it because SWEET is a requirement in my perfume:) I can tell it’s a strong scent as people commented right off the bat..And that’s just my first impression since I just found a sample in my closet from spring cleaning lol

I had to comment again to say what this smells similar to ... dolce and gabanna pour femme!! It just dawned on me! It has that I hate to say old, but that older REAL PERFUME vibe:)do you know what I mean?:) not a body mist or weak girly perfume dare I’d say a celebrity quality( except Ariana grande:) her perfumes are my favorite lol but this scent has the marshmallow and deep dark scent that’s sweet but like a woman not a little girl! Ps I keep trying to detect the rose but I don’t know that I do lol and I also find this similar to flower bomb nectar! It has a similar vibe of gunpowder and cotton candy notes except it’s not as dark if u will as this particular scent!

I received this as a free sample with my last Sephora order. I'm so glad I didn't spray this on my skin. Instead I sprayed it on a piece of paper and I thought something must have been on the paper to make it smell like pepper. I was confused so I sprayed it on another piece of paper and it was just as bad. This is offensive in my book. I have a problem with Replica fragrances. Even By The Fireplace, that people seem to like, smells offensive to me. It smells like Marshmallow Fireside room spray from Bath & Body Works with dirty ashes mixed in. The only one I really like is Jazz Club. That one is pretty awesome.

This is what I imagine a salad would smell like if she was the leading lady in Georgian period novel. It opens up with a very green pepper note and after a few minutes it starts to transforms into a soapy rose (similar to the Chloe fragrances) with a slight gun powder note. As it starts to dry down the green pepper comes back but the rose isn’t soapy anymore, it’s turned sweet. On the dry down I’m left with a fresh green note (maybe a combo of the basil and pepper), sweet rose and a metallic note. It’s green, sweet and stunning! It’s a very unusual fragrance that any green fragrance lover might enjoy.

This was an instant love for me. Its unlike anything else, the green pepper was unusual but actually genius (even though i hate eating green peppers) but the note in this fragrance just elevated everything else and took it to another level. Wow. If you’re into green, fresh and soapy fragrances and you like a bit of spark in them then this is for you. Try layering this with Dior Pure Poison! The combination is heavenly and divine, they compliment each other so well. 10/10. 😍

This green pepper and rose combination is not the most wearable, but remains a fun experience. I saw this fragrance described as smelling like roses, but just the stems, and I think that poetically defines Wicked Love. There is a slight woody dry down, but the two principal notes remain throughout. Doesn't last more than a few hours, but if you enjoy fresh green scents it is worth a try (not a buy).

Opens really off for me- like a fish fry with peppers and green herbs 😩. I kept wondering why I was smelling fish, I don’t know if my sample was off or something but then I read the notes and the green pepper was definitely coming through. For some reason this one really doesn’t work with my chemistry. As it dries down it turns into laundry soap for me. I’m not a fan.

Not a full review but I sniffed this on a blotter today without being told the full notes - the front label says "gun metal and roses" and that's all - and it smelled exactly like wet green bell pepper! Thought I was crazy until I checked the notes here. So...that note definitely comes through loud and clear. I'll update if I try it on my skin.

I received a free sample of this recently and I decided to spray it on myself while sitting at home one evening. Without seeing anything about the fragrance I immediately thought “this smells like green peppers and a cheap rose scented soap”. The pepper notes died off quickly but it’s still just a strange scent to me. I’m not a fan.

Wow. Awful. Sharp sharp generic cheap floral. If someone were to blind spray and ask me to guess I’d guess a 15$ bottle from Victoria secret or the likes of that . One of those scents that will give you a immediate headache if you get headaches from certain scents. 0/10.

I received a sample with my Sephora purchase. This is an odd one. Not sure if I like it. I quickly sprayed on my wrist and to me its too much pepper. I am a fan of Beach Walk - I haven't tried any other scent. This may be a pass.
