Lost In Translation

Is this one really lost in translation? What it is that I cannot read between the lines? This fragrance starts off with a slightly sweet violet, and a lot of green and herbal juniper. I was expecting something lighter and more aquatic but I struggle to pick up on the water notes, and even the tea is lost to me. The pepper stands out immediately and together with the juniper it is leaning on the masculine side of a unisex fragrance. The leather surprises me early on, and is a more subtle and velvet-y take than what I am used to with leather. Then the tobacco, a lot of tobacco shows itself, and the woody base wraps it all up into a big hug from a grandfatherly figure. It is a lot to take out from this fragrance, but even though it has a lot to say, it says so in a comforting and warm way. Like you’re wrapped up in a big cozy blanket, and when the wind gives you a whiff of the scent you’re wearing it is actually quite powdery. Initially I would describe this as a nice gentleman’s’ fougere, with the most delicious juniper and the perfect spicy kick from the pepper and tobacco. But when you have had that first sniff, every note blends beautifully together and I am at a loss of words. This perfume deserves a masterfully written review (I know this is not it). And is my loss for words what it means to be lost in translation? All I can say is that this is something you really need to smell for yourself. Exceptional scent for a superb price.

The initial spray scared me with how sweet it was, but on my skin it settles down into spicy, soapy, and slightly floral and sweet. I get none of the leather or tobacco on my skin, which is disappointing, but i do get it on the test strip. Really nice and can be worn by anyone, safe blind buy and ill definitely use my whole bottle. Excited to try it in the spring, i think it will really bloom. Pretty strong, i like a subtler smell so i use one spray and it lasts me the day, but does turn into a skin scent in around six hours. Goes great with a cup of chai Edit: after using it more, this scent was made for the cold wet PNW fall and winter, and scent for the type of cold that hurts your nose. You get the leather and tobacco after wearing a heavy coat for hours

I think trying to pick apart the notes in something like this is useless. It smells fantastical, otherwordly, it's fuzzy and warm without being spicy or resinous. It has a plasticky, doll head quality to it, especially once it settles. It also leans 'woody', a tender and slightly sweet wood. I usually spray on clothes cause everything disappears quickly on my skin, but this one curiously performs way better on skin! It soaks in and barely projects, but what a delight to sniff on your wrists! If anyone has a bottle to swap or sell please dm <3

This is one beautiful fragrance. It feels like I’m standing in the lush woods of the Pacific Northwest in a sunny day in autumn. There’s something bright and warm at play and I can’t name what notes are accomplishing this, only that it’s stunning. The woody notes are so calm and comforting, the greens are bright and cheery - this is beautifully cozy and fresh. I love this combination in that it’s totally unisex - anyone can wear this! Will be purchasing a full bottle.

Very original, 100% unisex, difficult to describe. Fresh and warm in the same time. Intriguing & mysterious. I wear it and my husband too... I love it ! The design of the bottle is so nice too... 10/10

Sadly enough, to me it smells very musk "like something else", and also dated: it has these Dior Fahrenheit vibes. It's definitely does not smell the same, or like a dupe, but it sends me to that late 90's - early 00's era. With a twist. And without that intense sharp barbershop-y, shaving cream -like harsh notes which I hate in male fragrances. It has that grassy leather, fresh with sweet-woodsy vibes with a tiny powdery floral hint general composition. And while it does remind of old compositions, it's not old-fashioned, they did compose a new fragrance; just like a vintage-like modern colour blocks windbreaker it's subtly different and can't be mistaken for a product of that era. This perfume is different from those of the Fahrenheit era because it lacks that harsh "bite". But also, to me, it still smells same-y with just something. I would definitely love to smell this on a young man, it's inoffensive, with a supportive unobtrusive personality. It's as unaggressive as Kenzo Wave (that dark blue bottle) or Versace Eros flame, or Moschino Boy Toy (black bear bottle): not a feminising smell, but to me they all say, I'm comfortable in myself, and I don't need to be annoying to be noticed. I think, Lolita Lempicka's Green Lover, and Hermes H24 also have that mood to a lesser extent, other Kenzo fragrances and Shiseido fragrances often have that vibe, and I like it. But this perfume is truly unisex, I'd try it if I wanted something like Fahrenheit, but not as obviously masculine, not as "stinky" or "sharp". The longevity is poor. But it's cheap, easy to refresh. My mom says it's on the "harsh" side, but she also says "it's fine because you are young" - that is, she likes it enough as long as it's not on an old lady, and to her it sounds youthful.

Lost in Translation itself is double dunked in syrupy balsamic juniper, sweet and resinous like a vanilla pod split open and steeped in gin n juice. Juniper, which I usually side-eye for its piney sharpness, surprises me here—cushioned by the soft greenery of violet leaf, it’s less like biting into a flashy cologne-drenched Christmas tree and more like inhaling the cool dusk air of a forest where something is brewing. In a bit, the sweetness recedes, making way for spice. Peppery, aromatic, the hum of black tea leaves unfurling in warm water. The tannins bloom—dry, almost smoky, with that slight astringency that catches the back of the throat. It’s contemplative, quiet, an unraveling of warmth into shadow. And finally, the base settles into a worn-in leather—smooth, slightly ashen, the scent of a well-loved book or the inside of a jacket that’s carried a hundred stories. It strongly reminds me of Atelier des Ors' Blue Madeleine, but that is more nostalgia in a bottle, this its moodier cousin, less wistful, more grounded. A juniper-heavy rework, but somehow it works—against all odds, against my usual preferences, against my general distrust of anything too pine-adjacent. And yet, here I am, breathing it in again.

The first notes I picked up on were pepper and juniper, followed by green tea (but only very briefly), violets and rosewood. The green tea fades fast along with the juniper. The pepper and violets stay a bit longer. The perfume dries down to a smokey rose scent where you can really smell the tobacco notes. In my opinion, it's an androgynous, youthful scent that is both light and refreshing while also being woody and complex. It's not so all consuming that you'll be noticed by anyone in your immediate environment upon entering the room - my mother had to actually sniff my wrists to be able to give her opinion. It somehow reminds me of a cool morning walk after in early spring or autumn immediately after fresh rain. Initially crisp and refreshing with warmer, earthier notes buried underneath. I would have liked to smell more of the tea. It seemed to be gone as soon as it arrived. It works well for me (I'm a guy under the age of 25), but I can't imagine an older man wearing this. While I currently only have a sample, I could be tempted to buy a full bottle of this.

This is fresh and cool to begin, it's got that slightly piney resinous feel and an aquatic sweetness, the juniper is there but only light. As it dries, it warms up, becoming lightly woody, musky and leathery and sweet in a different way. Now the aquatic freshness is flipped to the background. The transition is what makes this interesting. Eventually the leather goes and this smells a bit like woody sesame seeds to me, still with the aquatic edge. Overall this is still a fresh cologne kind of scent but is very long lasting and has good projection, it feel like something anyone at any time could wear and would make an interesting signature fragrance.

Actually really surprised when I tried it I clearly didn’t bet on it from the notes, but it’s soft and comforting, i get the woody aromatique part on me, it also last on my skin all day even if the dry-down kind of get linear at the end. A nice cheapy from an independent French brand that try to be environmental friendly

I like this one as a fun summer-to-fall sprayer. Not a lot of tea, but some–then sort of clean sticky rosewood & musk. I think this one will be fun to layer with other scents as well. Also, I don't usually factor this in, but it really was quite affordable and the bottle design is gorgeous.

this is a masculine scent i don’t care what anyone says! It’s sweet from the juniper berries, fresh and spicy from the violet leaves, and masculine from the leather and patchouli. I don’t pick up on the tobacco but this is a good all year round scent

I like it! It's a zingy juniper fragrance, but it's also soft and light. I don't think it's masculine or feminine really. I also get a light, gentle tobacco, the gentlest tobacco I've ever smelled. It's a woody herbal fragrance done in watercolors.

Strangely I get sweet fruity notes in the opening, something like lychee. Then it gets a bit woody, with a little bit spiciness. I personally even find this one kinda seductive.

This is a strange and interesting smell, opens up fruity, the dry down is a lot of things combined : ozonic/watery, woody, aromatic and slightly fruity in the background. Worth testing if you like out of the box scents. Price is decent.

First spray it was so masculine and I was like no! Dry down is so nice and gentle,okay unisex. I like it!

So I came across this in believe it or not a home goods store in Korea town LA (upscale rustic home goods store) and I was just mindlessly browsing the actual store in it’s entirety and I saw this in the corner of my eye, so being the frag head I am I decided to do test and try some of them as I was already bored out of my mind. And holy crap this scent is just me in a bottle. Let me just start by saying that I love juniper berry, it’s such a fun and clean, slightly sweet note that is addictive to me, and thats exactly what this scent is it’s pretty addictive. You get that juniper berry and it’s pretty dominant on my skin, it’s a slightly jammy but effervescent and juicy juniper berry and I can actually compare it to something like Parfums De Marly Valero. To me it’s a masculine leaning airy ozonic juniper fragrance with some metallic nuances and ever so slightly green from the tea. It’s a less woody PDM valero which is one of my favorite releases from PDM. Solid 8.7/10 very inoffensive and I’m looking forward to wearing out my bottle I bought at that store.
