Ambre Tibet

Ambre Tibet is a deep oriental chypre with a paradoxical combination of warmth and coolness. It measures up in quality and craftsmanship to Ambre Precieux, Ambre Dore, and Ambre Mythique. I find that it has the most in common with Precieux, with which it shares the same warm, resinous sweetness, but instead of lavender it features a heart of davana reminiscent of frosted conifers. The effect is one of genuine Tibetan musk with its balance of honey and evergreen gaminess (for comparison, try EO’s Tibetan Musk). The amber base is thicker and maltier than that of the precursors, and has a burnt-caramel gourmand richness. It is reminiscent of the dark-hued labdanum absolute used by Chris Laudamiel in TF’s Amber Absolute. (See his demonstration online.) The blending with davana and eucalyptus makes Tibet more balanced than the TF offering. Instead of being saccharine, it manages to sit right on the line between gourmand and fresh. I was delighted by the refreshing chill of eucalyptus in the opening so much that I wanted the camphorous notes to ring longer and louder, but after wearing it for a day I could see that the progression from cooler to warmer is superb in its own right. I have tried roughly ~60 or so fragrances for colder weather in search for the one and I have finally found it. This is truly a fantastic fragrances from start to finish. It reminds me almost of vanilla ice cream with balsamic dressing with a touch of caramel. Which honestly reminds me of summer so I am curious to see how this is during the summer but it is most definitely a colder weather scent. The amber base, and eucalyptus opening provide it with a refined and masculine elegance. I always enjoyed Grand Soir from MFK but found it too simple, as it was just amber and vanilla from start to finish for an egregious price point. While I can smell those notes, Ambre Tibet has so much more complexity and elegance to it that truly makes it a work of art that is both incredibly unique but also appealing to everyone that I've showed it to. Scent: 9.8/10 Longevity: ~8 hours, although it will sit on your skin for much longer Sillage: Leaves a close trial Value: As with all fragrances I think they're overpriced but comparatively this is a somewhat decent value. Overall score: 9.4/10 - Best fragrance I have ever got my hands on. Will be my signature cold weather scent.

This is the amber I did not know I wanted, and one of the best ambers I have ever smelled. It smells exactly like my grandparents' house. For those from Eastern Europe who know those old peasant houses, with mats/tapestries made from dried reeds, hot from the sun... that sweet smell, reminiscent of sandalwood, hay, honey, dust, amber, weeds. Now imagine burning just a little myrrh and beeswax candles in the house, and having the windows open, the slightest smell of trees, vines, and flowers brought in by the wind... so comforting. This is Ambre Tibet. It's wonderful.

Ok, tested today at 5 rue des Capucines. I was waiting this release for a few months. What to say? Much ado about nothing. Very good amber, but very generic one. After magnificent Précieux, Doré and Mythique, I wonder what Tibet brings new to the universe of amber and MPG. I simply adore this maison but I have to recognise that the golden age is far back now. We cannot wait 3 years after the last release to get this unuseful expensive amber. Really sorry to write that.

What a beautiful amber this is!!!! I love Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier as I feel their fragrances are very neat and clean .. Ambre tibet is very elegant, potent but not cloying, and lingers around so beautifully. I get a spicy balsamic amber .. it has a strong character but soft presence... its certainly a LOVE to me!

The addition of eucalyptus and davana is ingenious (adds some bitterness and coolness to the classic amber formula) - I only wish there was more of them and a little less of that "vanilla extract" sweetness. I really liked this at first, but after a few tries the sweetness became cloying to me

An incense-y, camphoric amber...much better than precioux...eucalyptus, davana, and incense are feature notes, alongside the amber accord...certainly, gives a temple-like feel...not bad

this is a magnificent and refined amber perfume. I guess I can predominantly detect the ambergris and incense. then the other notes contribute to what makes this perfume such a precious spiritual sensation this, contributing to the unforgotten (but now desastrously disheveled by the Chinese) country of 'Tibet'. dreamily it sends its rays unto the surroundings. of course Rose, Vanilla, Patchouli and Sandelwood proliferate the rarity of the Ambergris. I haven't so fine of a nose as C-Sauce, whose brilliant review put this perfume on the map and also shows its 'Maitre' ancestry. I just HAVE to say this elegant and refined perfume is also as strong as a YAK. so much so that it offers reminiscences to the 1985 Ambre du Jour (and loved by me) OBSESSION by Calvin Klein. that shall be the paradox of this perfume. being as spiritual and ephemereal as sturdy and persevering. I love it, next to the 'Oud Extravagant' I have bought at once. another two stunners from MPeG.

A good, balsamic, spicy, incense amber. A very warm scent. I believe it was inspired by this house's room fragrance Ambre du Népal, which I love and have used for some time. Perhaps customers who, like me, love that room spray asked whether a personal fragrance could be made along the same lines. TBH I think it works slightly better as a home fragrance, but I am enjoying wearing Ambre Tibet EdP in cold weather. Unlike many, I am really not a fan of this house's other ambers. In particular, I find Ambre Précieux far too powdery and just can't understand why so many people love it.

Spicy, mellow amber scent. The labdanum and Davana are very noticeable. The patchouli is clean and chewy. The sandalwood and vanilla add more sweetness in the late drydown. It is a very beautiful scent. I need a bottle.
