Fraiche Badiane

This fragrance carries a distinctly vintage character within the citrus–herbal category. The opening shows the bright acidity of lemon and orange, while basil adds the slightly bitter, green impression of crushed herbs. It feels sharp and botanical rather than purely refreshing. Star anise is particularly prominent. It introduces that recognizable nuance associated with licorice candy or anise liqueur, which gives the scent a specific aromatic signature. Because of this element, the fragrance does not read as a typical clean cologne. Overall, the profile combines freshness with spice and a noticeable herbal tone. Anyone accustomed to modern, polished citrus compositions may find it unusual. However, this style was quite common in earlier European perfumery, especially in traditional masculine fragrances built around aromatic herbs. The most distinctive aspect is the treatment of star anise. It brings coolness, spice, and a faint medicinal edge, yet remains completely unsweetened.

MPG FRAICHE BADIANE opens brightly but the anise makes this not just another citrus aromatic. I have to say, though, that I find the Creed water-like base the most dominant of the notes. I have applied FB a few times, and each time I am reminded of various Creed water offerings. I am not saying that FB is identical to anything in the Creed line, but very similar, at least in the drydown, to a few (some of them have "water" in their name...). Because of the base, FRAICHE BADIANE has good staying power, but it does not really smell like a patchouli-based perfume to me. Nonetheless, I like this citrus composition and would consider adding it to my collection. Definitely universal, not just for men!

I got a sample today. On my skin it is like Eau Sauvage, but a little bit spicier with very noticable tangerine and anise. After 30 minutes it settles down and stays close to my skin. Nothing extraordinary if you know Sauvage and it's stronger brother Extreme, but anyway test it cause on your skin it could be different. You can feel the quality of the ingredients but it does not last long on my skin, just like Sauvage. In Poland 100 ml costs around 100 euros, too much for this kind of scent. But still I like it ;)

Perhaps the name, Fraiche Badiane, says it all. Notice the dreaded word: Fresh. FB reminds me of citrus dish detergent. Projection: Poor Longevity: Poor Overall: 1.5/5
